    I really hope that in like Pikmin 6 or 7, when we finally have every color as a Pikmin type, there will be a real challenge, where you have to use all of them with a maximum of 500 Pikmin on the field to solve puzzles, fight bosses and carry back treasure with like 5 captains and maybe a multiplayer with up to 5 people to each play as one captain. I want to manage a huge number of diverse pikmin with many unique abilities and uses across a large amount of captains together with my friends, but also alone with all of the things adapting to not be too difficult alone, but not too easy with others. I want to feel overwhelmed, not with time, but with my pikmin population, I want to hectically plan with my friends, scream when a pikmin dies and laugh when we all are just too dumb to manage all of the things. It would be great.

      While this sounds like the most fun multiplayer pikmin game ever and I do want to see this happen, it just wouldn't fly since Pikmin has been primarily a single player experience and lets just say 5 player would be impossible without either everyone owning a copy or some sort of download play service gets into the switch.
      (ngl 500 pikmin and 5 captain sounds like it would feel like VRChat levels of chaos)

    I def agree Oatchi is really broken and i def wished he was nerfed a lot, cause what I love about Pikmin is the challenge, hence why i just did a run without using oatchi's rush and riding him, and honestly the experience felt a lot more like what I wanted, I recommend doing this for everyone that wanted that challenge, not to say that improves the issues the game has. Even then i greatly enjoyed my time with pikmin 4 and the years they had to make it show. Hopefully 5 has some better balancing that doesnt require you to basically set ur own challenge runs to improve it

    • @Wyrlwind

  • @bluetoad6848
    @bluetoad6848 Год назад +6

    As someone who has played all 4 games, I think 4 might be my least favorite. Maybe slightly better than 2. The excessive handholding kills a lot of the fun. Yeah, I get they wanted to make it easier for newcomers, but there are much better ways of doing it. I know that, cause Pikmin 3 exist.
    With the awful, forced auto-aim, obnoxious gameplay interrupting tutorials (I've gotten tutorial cutscenes on how to save pikmin as late as the final area of the game) and the game blatantly telling you what pikmin you'll need, it just feels like the devs just don't trust players intelligence, or abilities.
    Pikmin 4 also relies way too much on referencing the previous games, and with that being said, almost everything 4 does, a previous pikmin game has done significantly better. Pikmin 3's Mission mode and Bingo Battle, are way better than the dull dandori battles and challenges.
    The levels felt much worse and a lot less unique, compared to 1, 2, or 3s areas.
    The only real improvements were the caves, but they still hurt the pacing and flow of the game.
    The only new bone in Pikmin 4 are the night time missions which were highly disappointing and extremely dull.
    I wish they focused more on making pikmin 4 stand out, in good ways of course. Instead like 70% of Pikmin 4 is just "Hey! Remember this thing from [insert pikmin title here]"

    • @Wyrlwind
      @Wyrlwind  Год назад +2

      I totally get where you're coming from. personally I'm very mixed on the overworld areas, I want to like them but it feels like they're all missing something. Especially the last two areas, they feel a whole lot more linear than the previous ones since the focus at that point has shifted to searching for Louie. Oh and yeah I 100% agree with you on the night missions, they were so... empty. They only got very mildly challenging at the very end, and even then the missions usually end just AS they're becoming somewhat stressful

    • @bluetoad6848
      @bluetoad6848 Год назад +1

      @@Wyrlwind The overworlds definitely do not make full use of their much larger scale.
      Like, did you know Blossoming Arcadia, only has 5 walls in the entire map. (1 dirt, 1 electric, 2 ice, and 1 reinforced)
      By comparison, the Garden of Hope has a total of 14 (6 dirt, 4 electric, 3 crystal, and 1 bamboo)
      Like what happen here? The areas in 4 feel more like hub worlds for the caves and dandori stuff, rather than actual levels.
      Another thing I notice. Due to the maps only having 3 hazards, you can easily beat them after your first few visits, and there's never a need to backtrack. The maps in the previous 3 games all contained a wide variety of hazards, so they were more open to backtracking. Discovering new pikmin just felt more exciting when you could take them back to previous areas to open up new paths/sections.
      4 has this to some degree, but it's only for the area the pikmin is discovered in.

    • @OriginalGameteer
      @OriginalGameteer Год назад

      I wouldn't even call the caves an improvement tbh
      Don't get me wrong, not having 2's bs and having actual layouts and puzzles is a massive improvement
      The problem is it feels like they dont get harder until the final cave. There's only one cave before the end that's 6 floors long and it's in the SECOND AREA (not to mention it has 2 bosses so it's not really any different from anything else). The caves in the final region aren't any longer than caves you'd be seeing in the second and third area. Compared to the Cavern of Chaos and Hole of Heroes, which were genuine challenges on their own despite being optional. Caves were meant to be a test of maintaining your resources (pikmin)... which doesn't mean much when here almost every cave is just 3/4/5 levels deep

    • @bluetoad6848
      @bluetoad6848 Год назад

      @@OriginalGameteer I don't think lengthening the caves would've helped in their difficulty. Especially considering the fact that time now passes. It would've just made the cave disrupt the game's flow even more.
      What the caves really need to do was:
      A. Remove the pikmin limit.
      B. Use hazards/enemies/puzzles in a more creative way.
      Despite the fact that you can technically use more than 3 pikmin types in a cave, the game still builds the caves around the 3 pikmin type limit. And most caves only use only 1 hazard at a time per floor. And the puzzles are mainly just, hit a button to lower a gate, or switch conveyor belts .
      The caves would've benefited from using multiple hazards, and more creative puzzles.
      Like say, have all the treasure in bodies of water, but have a lot of electrical wires running in them to "electrify" the water, preventing you and blue pikmin from entering it, and instead requiring you to navigate around them and find the power source to switch off. All while battling enemies along the way. They could've even made the "power source" an enemy, or miniboss.

    Pikmin 3 is literally the best experience. Proper cutscenes, a nice story progression, amazing controls, and a beautiful world that feels pretty open.
    Pikmin 4 feels very small and confined honestly. Like, it’s still a good experience but the auto lock makes me wanna die. And the game also just didn’t feel like it has much replayability.

    • @tessaPMpro
      @tessaPMpro Год назад +3

      lol not at all, Pikmin 3 was too short and too easy, it replaced the swarm with the charge when the swarm was better in just about every way, less camera options than in either Pikmin 1 or 2, the pikmin AI felt worse than in Pikmin 2 and actually the game felt like a downgrade from Pikmin 2 in many ways, which was made even more disappointing by how long it took to release. You say Pikmin 4 felt small and confined while Pikmin 3 felt pretty open? Are you sure you're not getting the two games mixed up here? Because literally the opposite is true. Pikmin 4 is better in just about every way and while Pikmin 3 may not be objectively the worst Pikmin game, it is my least favourite.

    • @Helianthus03
      @Helianthus03 5 месяцев назад

      @@tessaPMpro@tessaPMpro i disagree, to me pikmin 3 felt way more open. yeah sure pikmin 4 was technically more open, but most of the openness in pikmin 4 had nothing in it, it just made it longer to get around anywhere. definitely disagree here, and imo pikmin 4 is by far the worst in the series, the previous 3 all blow it out of the water. and as for the multiplayer, for me thats always been half the fun of pikmin, but for my sister and i, pikmin 4 was suuuch a huge disappointment. both pikmin 2 and especially 3s multiplayer were so high quality and interesting, while 4s was lazy and felt tacked on. and honestly i cant even bring myself to replay pikmin 4 at this point, with its extremely long and over-tutorialized intro. i hate how much the characters talk, and oatchi makes everything a joke. ive replayed the previous 3 games countless times, but this is the first pikmin game i genuinely dread to play again. but thats just my opinion. not trying to discount yours, just wanted to say this.

      3, despite being rushed and having a map cut out of the game at the last minute, is still one of my favorite pikmin experiences. it is by far one of the best in my opinion. at least it has an identity instead of relying on another game's story to shittily tell another retconned one that barely makes any sense. at least it has bosses that aren't an enemy just scaled bigger. at least it doesn't have a dog that makes it a baby game. at least it's not SOLELY focused on giving fanservice and being a love letter to the whole franchise instead of having its own identity. pikmin 4 is the worst game in the franchise, hands down. its just pikmin 3: pikmin 2 edition.

    Oatchi only added to the strategy of the game. Even if he's strong, he is only one unit. And he's not good for piles of gold or raw materials, where Pikmin numbers are still important. The Dandori challenges specifically showcased how good he can be and can actually improve Pikmin management. His rush added an interesting element to the combat which was prior just "charge / c stick, or throw". Oatchi only added options and made me want to better strategize.

    I do wish bulbears revived themselves again and if they did add that they would revive a lot faster. They need to make enemies a lot more tankier. I wish the man at legs was beefier he’s just a joke now I killed him 3 times in 1 cycle because of the dogs.

    not using Oatchi or using less pikmin is totally valid it's easy with Oatchi so that people who can't handle the difficulty of pikmin without him especially in later levels but still gives you the option to just not use him or take out less pikmin if the game doesn't feel hard enough it's basically like a difficulty select, although maybe the game would benefit from an actual difficulty select Easy is the game as per usual except you can use all pikmin types and 100 pikmin without flarlic, normal is game as per usual, hard removes Oatchi, Very hard reduces max pikmin to 50 and removes Oatchi, Extreme removes Oatchi 60 pikmin limit and brings back the day limit and shortens days by like 3 mins or smth, and super mega extreme all the stuff in extreme but the enemies and bosses are faster and have more HP. or a custom difficulty would probably be better where you could like toggle Oatchi, The day limit, pikmin limits, enemy strength and how much time is in a day, I feel like that would benefit all players but the way you can modify difficulty already sin't awful just could use a little bit of work

Also the lack of reason for Louie being the main villain and ignoring the other dimension villain from the previous games was a bit odd. Everything your saying here is exactly what I thought with the game and it's been bugging me how everyone else seems to just think the game is perfectly fine outside of some small problems when it's not, I don't think the game is bad but some of the choices they made were not well thought out or were just undoing the good changes Pikmin 3 deluxe had. I would understand most of the choices for trying to draw in newer players or non-gamers, but I find the game is still to stressful even for them so it's sitting in this kind of awkward ground where it's to easy for people way into it, and it's to stressful for hyper casuals doing things for the 1st time. I don't think removing Oatchie is the right thing to do, but I do agree with nerfing him, the game is built to much around using him that it just would just all need to be reworked, I also don't think removing types is the right thing to do either as I feel other than winged I found myself using all of them, instead they just need to give said types more things that only they can do or do better such as the yellows where I think this was the game I was using them the most, and not just because of a instant death hazard but rather for their other traits too. I also wish all the caves were twice as long other than the last one, they all just end so quickly I feel not letting the gimmicks of a hole really flesh out as much as I would have wanted. Overall nothing in the game really matters which makes me ask myself why should I care? Pikmin deaths don't matter when all of them are so easy to regain even without the onions since you can just go straight to any floor in any cave you want at anytime, leaving in the middle of a cave without using an exit as no punishment so why not abuse it? sprays are so stupid easy to get that even when your not going for them you will still have 30+ by the time your done everything, captain knock outs don't matter when you can just walk straight back over to the fallen captain and just wake them up and keep going like nothing happened. That is all not talking about the rewind which is over kill, it's all built just to get itself over with as fast as possible and not put up any real resistance unless you don't use any of your tools.
    Anyways good video.

      yeah I feel like there's been this bizarre unwillingness people have to criticize nintendo games recently, and it's been the most apparent with Pikmin 4 (EDIT: Should've clarified that I really was only referring to Zelda Totk and Pikmin 4 but maybe more people have been criticizing the games than I thought.)

    • @arminarlert7273

      That's not true people criticize Nintendo games all the time. Mario 3D all stars got heavily criticized, the new Mario sport games have been criticize and still do to this day. The first wave of the Mario Kart 8 deluxe was heavily criticize. So I don't know we're you are getting that straw man because that is simply not true. The Pokemon games have been heavily criticized as well. People bash Nintendo on Twitter or X, every day and don't even get me started on the online discourse. Just because two games haven't been criticized (Pikmin 4, Tears of the Kindom) doesn't mean that people don't criticize Nintendo games. Before Tears of the Kindom we had the Pokemon violet and scarlet discourse. You want to know why people aren't criticizing Tears of the Kindom and Pikmin 4? Hear me out maybe, just maybe they have a different opinion from you and don't see the things you see as problems as a problem? Also add the fact that it is literally the first time a lot of people know what Pikmin even is. But anyway, saying Nintendo games aren't criticized is a Straw Man falacy. Oh, I almost forgot. Tears of the Kindom did actually did get critici, remember glorified DLC? Some people who clearly haven't played the game still call it that, so I think it is safe to say that people do criticize Nintendo and Nintendo in general all the time.

    One of my main issues with Pikmin 4 is simply that it has awful pacing. The crew speaks WAY too much. I’m all for a more involved story (one of the big reasons why I liked Pikmin 3), but there’s still a limit. I couldn’t even finish the demo because I was bored out of my mind most of the time.
    My other big issue with Pikmin 4 is the TERRIBLE Ui. Especially coming from someone diagnosed with OCD, this game has genuinely some of the worst Ui design i have ever seen. There’s way too many options’ subsections, and everything’s organized terribly. It’s overly complicated, and extremely confusing to navigate. Also, it visually pales in comparison to Pikmin 3’s UI aesthetic. I do prefer this more digital-like style (rather than 3’s more organic-like style), but I just hate how it was executed. It doesn’t feel tasteful nor consistent between the different menu subsections and pop-in balloon messages.

    Really glad you made this video. This game is great and deserves praise but that’s all I’ve really seen so far. Oatchi totally usurps the point of the series… that being to strategize and utilize your army of Pikmin. And unfortunately because of the reception, there will probably be a similar mechanic in every installment moving forward. That’s not even mentioning auto-lock, haha.
    It’s also worth noting that glow Pikmin are completely busted. I ended up with roughly 100 glow seeds just through natural game progression, and then used them to nuke the final boss.

      Like giving blue pikmin the ability to charge, giving rock pikmin the ability to break any vase and finally giving the yellow pikmin the ability the ability to carry bomb rocks exclusively.
      And for auto lock i wouldn't remove it i would just put it in a easy mode for beginners and have the normal mode lack the auto lock so you actually have practice aiming and make fighting enemies/bosses.

    Honestly I agree with most of this but I also have one major problem with something and that is WINGED PIKMIN, they did my babies extremely dirty, also Rock Pikmin, basically they get completely underused and most of the things that made them useful and cool GOT REMOVED, Rock Pikmin are still strong and are even stronger than purples with Oatchi rush but the EXTREME lack of crystal and rock Pikmin needed enemies is awful, there is barely any need to use the rocks because you can even destroy and kill the bare 2 crystal walls in the whole game and the only actual rock needed enemy with a bomb easily, sure thy can be fun to use but you don’t really ever need to actually use them, and for the winged Pikmin I see the vision they had but it just didn’t work, I loved the concept of mud pits and that winged Pikmin could grab things in the mud to be able to transport it but this doesn’t work at all when introducing mud pits SO LATE into the game and having so little use of actual things in the mud (actually I don’t think there is any actual treasure in the mud pits just enemies so you never even really need the winged to carry anything other than enemies or stuff from the mud) but also because they took away most of the winged Pikmin’s use features, bamboo walls and BEING ABLE TO BE CHARGED UNDERWATER, honestly I’m just really against how they made them work, there is also not flying enemies AT ALL that need wingeds or that it is more convenient to use them, you can’t charge them or command them at all in water or while riding Oatchi and it just makes them actually feel weird to use and they just look unfinished imo

      @antoeab Год назад +1

      @@Wyrlwind Yes, honestly I love winged and rock Pikmin and I was so sad that you couldn’t even use them properly until post game, I really was hoping there was a 7th zone where u needed the most underused Pikmin which where by far Winged, Rocks and maybe purples since they are also basically useless and overshadowed since even without Oatchi you can still deal with most of the enemies normally with the usual Pikmin by just charging or throwing, also to fix winged and rocks crystal walls needed to be as important as in Pikmin 3 and maybe a little Lake-Rocky zone would have been an amazing place to expand on both of the rocks and wingeds, also the wingeds path tracking seems unfinished and whack (they don’t even take the shortcuts they should at times) I only use wingeds a lot because they are basically immune to dying to most enemies immediately and because the flying is an extremely great redeeming factor but that doesn’t change that they were made wrong.
