I dont think anyone saying Ben looks too old is not exaggerating, and the makeup and lighting make him somehow look even older, somehow making him look sweatier and more wrinkly, like he's some kind of eldritch abomination trying to pass as a human. I'm not saying that people above the age of 18 can't look like a high school student or younger. For example, Andrew Garfield was around 28-29 during the filming of The Amazing Spider Man (roughly the same age as Ben Platt during the filming of DEH) and he was definitely able to pass as a high school student. Hell, I have a 14 year old brother that genuinely looks like be could pass as an elementary school student. It's just that a younger look is kind of just something you either have or you don't. Ben Platt simply doesn't have that kind of look, and I feel like he'd do better in a producer or co-director role, trying to help out an actual high school student (or someone able to pass as one) with their role. You've probably heard this about a billion times before, but if anyone was in the producer's chair OTHER than Marc Platt, there's no way in hell Ben would even be considered for the role of Evan in this movie. Edit: also why did they cut Good For You that's the best fucking song

As someone who's seen the musical with the OC (well online of course) and seen the movie, I'll say the movie was great too. Ben Platt didn't bother me that bad because to me he didn't look to old in most parts, I was upset about the songs they removed but I do enjoy the 2 new ones. Though there definitely could be improvements for the movie, definitely one of my favorites and going to get it on DVD when it releases
i saw this on september 29th despite having agoraphobia. i was shaking and teary eyed from being so overwhelmed being in public but i calmed down as the movie started. and then i started crying again as the sad parts came on LOL. i don't care what anyone says, i loved the musical and i LOVE the movie. it's one of my favorites now. i relate to evan so much and this story has helped me. i never really had any friends in middle or high school. i was bullied so much i started having stomach problems and got so nauseous before school. id sit in the car sobbing, begging my mom not to leave me in the drop off line. i started getting sick. i transferred to a charter school. got picked on.... on the first day. i had my head down during the last period crying because i thought it would be different. i thought it would be different. i eventually did online school. and i dropped out because i got too sick to keep up. ive been really sick with an autoimmune disease and depression and severe anxiety. ive been seeing doctor after doctor after doctor. for years ive felt alone and like i didn't matter to anyone. feeling invisible and alone. i still feel all of this. but this story gives me hope that it'll get better and that I'll be at peace with everything that has happened. this movie made my mom cry literally the whole time and even my dad cried! and ive only seen him cry like twice my whole 19 years of life! that's how you know your movie is good and touching hearts of even the unexpected. ben actually did look pretty young in a LOT of scenes. i loved how they gave alana a song and i honestly love the ending more than the musical's. ( the "all i see is sky for forever" line still makes me cry don't get me wrong LOL ) but it made me so emotional to see and hear connor sing like that. although im sad they cut out some songs and moments i liked, i still adore this movie so much. thank you and God bless
Also really liked the movie despite some criticism and hope to see a performance of the musical one day. Sorry to read about what happened to you. Good health to you mate.
I think there’re many people have Evan Hansen in their mind that’s why this show and songs are getting us right in the heart. Feel like I was saved from the bottom of loneliness after watching this movie
He may be 27 years old playing a 17-year-old but he is very believable. Also this isn’t The first time that they’ve cast actors who are older than their characters. Take the majority of the cast of Grease.
Or Never Have I Ever, where there’s a 30 year old playing a sophomore. Don’t get me wrong, I love nhie, but it’s pretty hypocritical that all of a sudden, people are mad at casting an actor older than their character when this clearly wasn’t an issue before
@@bellablondon6172 Exactly! It’s very common to cast actors who are older then their characters. In Catch Me if You Can, Leonardo DiCaprio was 27/28 playing a 15-year-old. It’s no different. People just need to drop it.
Even in this movie! None of the teenager characters are played by actors/actresses younger than 22. It's not just him, people were just bullying him because they didn't like his hairstyle 🤦🏼♀️

I love this song so much when you can relate to the lyrics of a song it hits so much different I can relate to Evan with the anxiety and depression the four friends I have I’ve been friends with since elementary school if I didn’t already know them I’d have absolutely no friends
this movie/musicul/book hits so close, i struggle with anxity and depression and was admitted into a hospitol for it. so these lyrics and how emotional they are it makds me realize I am not alone. overall this is my favourite story
My girlfriend explained this musical to me about 6 months ago and honestly I thought it was dumb and didn’t make sense. I did like a couple of the songs but I didn’t really understand the context. She took me to see this on my birthday recently and I couldn’t have been more wrong. It was so powerful and moving and it made me streamline tears. Not only that but triggered me because I did loose a friend to suicide and even almost committed to myself when I was in high school feeling very similar with my anxiety disorder to Evan feeling like everyone was either against me, just used me, bullied and targeted me, and even ignored my existence. This just hit so close to home and didn’t like being reminded of that time but at same time appreciate my life today and how far I have come by giving life one more chance. 😭
It’s so reliable like I DO FEEL INVISIBLE and I love how people are getting real life problems ppl have these days and putting them in songs so the people that are going though it won’t feel alone and I’m crying because it’s nice to not be alone
Definitely not as bad of a movie as people are making out to be, though I do slightly agree with some of the reasonable criticism it got. But I completely enjoyed it and enjoyed Ben Platt's performance and glad he came back, his age didn't bother me really because I don't think he looked to old, just a bit though
Since March of this year, due to the economic situation of my family, which for obvious reasons was due to the pandemic. From then on, my friends from school continued studying but online. From March to August, I had some very bad emotional moments, which turned into depression, anxiety, isolation, loneliness and a little while I was sinking and I had suicidal thoughts since I could not tell to feel that way and above all that my family would continue financially bad. But I myself decided that it was not the way I should take because my family was always with me and I could not leave them. After we recovered financially, I was able to go back to study and meet up with friends. Then I became interested in this film and I think it gave me the boost I needed. I think this song gave me a break and the relief that I needed for a long time. I proudly say I fought and survived ❤️
So powerful. Thus song explains my HS experience...damn near 35 yrs ago. I just didn't realize/ know that I had anxiety. Or even that's what was plaguing me. Found out about 10 years ago, when my daughter graduated from HS. I'm betting now, with the meds.
I agree. Most of the time I end up liking for the live singing more than the actual soundtrack itself, more because of the raw emotion and vulnerability they show it there voices and singing, makes the soundtrack sound like a high school production. Even the Broadway soundtrack is better than the movie soundtrack honestly.
@@bobbyjayjohnson3460 I was so tempted to watch it in theaters again because it sounded so much better in the movie and I really wanted to see it again
Im gonna have to give a hard pass on the movie, the live musical performance is much better in almost every regard. The movie just, it hurts to watch and listen to.
I know this musical is about high schoolers, but damn...it really hits home as a person in their 30s. The anxieties and struggles can follow you for years. I'm happy I wasn't successful with my attempt back then. I still suffer today but I'm here. It does get better. ❤
I watched this movie for two days straight because I couldn't get through it I love it this just became my favorite musical it was grease but afta I saw this 2 days ago I feel in love from this 1st song
I really liked this movie.I have a theory, those who never had depression or anxiety don't care much for this movie and are calling it awful but those who have, I am sure you see his motivations, why he did what he did.People are saying Evan was a sociopath, I mean WTF, do you even fucking know what a sociopath is? It all started just because he couldn't say No to his family. Many people who has anxiety suffer from this problem including myself.I can't ever say no to an stranger for some reason.Even I can't understand why.I am not asking you to love Evan, just asking you to be a little more considerate. When I read those awful comments if feels so fucking sad that people can't see where he was coming from just like in real life
I hear you. Many of the things Evan does is fueled by anxiety and his desperation to escape from the perpetual emotional turmoil he's had. It all started as a simple and honest misunderstanding. He tries to tell the truth initially, but when Mr. and Mrs. Murphy started assuming Evan's relationship with Conner, he reluctantly continued the charade because of two things. First, he was afraid of breaking the hearts of Conner's family by revealing the truth, the shame/reprimand/awkwardness he would face from it, and the prospect of revealing something personal in the process. Second, he was hooked on the love and validation that he gained from everything that happened afterwards - love and validation that he never had before as an isolated teen with a single, overworked mom and a seemingly uncaring and cynical (family) friend. He was desperate due to his depression; it's the same type of desperation that is responsible for suicidal thoughts and tendencies. I agree with you when you say that people who actually suffered from mental health issues like depression and anxiety might be the only people who would be able to truly understand and relate with that.
I’ve suffered with mental illness for YEARS. Depression and this soon after got diagnosed with anxiety. However, I still find this movie lack luster and quite frankly just not good. I know where Evan, is coming from. But here’s the important thing to remember: your mental illness doesn’t excuse your actions. So saying that people who shit on the movie haven’t experienced mental illness, is a bold statement to make.
Y’all. Ben Platt was the only one that could’ve done Evan Hansen the way he carried this movie. I’m - sorry?? If you disagree???? like take away the “he looks too old for this role” HIS EMOTIONS, HIS SINGING???? Nah.
I don’t care what anyone says. This was a great movie.
Have you watched the musical by chance?
@@HappyBoyyyyyy only clips of it and I’ve read the whole script. Just from those I agree the musical is better, but this wasn’t as bad as people are trying to make it out to be.
@@firebros1695 I think It's not awful just a few things were unneedingly changed, like the removal of pretty crucial songs and the addition of ones that don't push the story forward. I am one of the people that doesn't like Ben Platt as Evan considering how old and out of place he looks compared to everyone else. I would highly recommend watching the musical for how much better (IMO) it is. thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
@@HappyBoyyyyyy thanks for writing it! I agree with you on the part about the crucial songs and adding new ones that don’t move the story forward. At times Ben Platt looked old and out of place with everyone else but I didn’t think it was as bad as most people made it out to be. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. I will make sure to buy tickets for the musical if it plays anywhere near me. I have also listened to the soundtrack.
When you're socially awkward, every lyric is so relatable...and honestly this has been my comfort zone whenever I feel socially anxious
Beautiful voice.. His face looks like he's melting in that makeup.
so good, ben platt is amazing. And so are Justin Paul and Benj Pasek for writing this
We're doing this musical play as our final output, and i must say that i can't get this song out of my mind.
FF: We did it! Yay! our grade was 92.0!
i feel so seen. this song lets me know that i’m not the only one who’s alone and frozen that way.
It's a great movie, I never get tired of repeating the scenes and crying.
i saw this on september 29th despite having agoraphobia.
i was shaking and teary eyed from being so overwhelmed being in public but i calmed down as the movie started. and then i started crying again as the sad parts came on LOL. i don't care what anyone says, i loved the musical and i LOVE the movie. it's one of my favorites now. i relate to evan so much and this story has helped me.
i never really had any friends in middle or high school. i was bullied so much i started having stomach problems and got so nauseous before school. id sit in the car sobbing, begging my mom not to leave me in the drop off line. i started getting sick. i transferred to a charter school. got picked on.... on the first day. i had my head down during the last period crying because i thought it would be different. i thought it would be different. i eventually did online school. and i dropped out because i got too sick to keep up. ive been really sick with an autoimmune disease and depression and severe anxiety. ive been seeing doctor after doctor after doctor.
for years ive felt alone and like i didn't matter to anyone. feeling invisible and alone. i still feel all of this. but this story gives me hope that it'll get better and that I'll be at peace with everything that has happened. this movie made my mom cry literally the whole time and even my dad cried! and ive only seen him cry like twice my whole 19 years of life! that's how you know your movie is good and touching hearts of even the unexpected. ben actually did look pretty young in a LOT of scenes. i loved how they gave alana a song and i honestly love the ending more than the musical's.
@@clarinetmaster5990 aw thank you for taking time out of your day to read and reply to me
I think there’re many people have Evan Hansen in their mind that’s why this show and songs are getting us right in the heart. Feel like I was saved from the bottom of loneliness after watching this movie
this songs stuck in my head
As someone who's dealt with stress, anxiety and losses since 2018, this song fits me and I love the tune of this song
If You fall in a forest and you crash, it sounds like your mother's heart breaking in a thousand pieces.
He may be 27 years old playing a 17-year-old but he is very believable.
Also this isn’t The first time that they’ve cast actors who are older than their characters. Take the majority of the cast of Grease.
Agreed. I know a guy in my high school that deadass acted and looked like Evan Hansen. He absolutely plays a convincing 17 year old
Or freaks and geeks, Linda cardellini was about 23 when she played 16 year old Lindsay Weir
Since Evan has anxiety like I do, I listen to this song and it feels like I am connected to him.
I love this song, I struggle with social anxiety and this song is the greatest thing that made me feel good.
I'm pretty sure this is where my tears started and never stopped...
Wowowowow....This is the most poetic way to define us as neurodivergents.....God bless you.
the end part when he goes "waving... waving..." is so good!!
This song has kind of been my theme since I've seen this movie. I probably was crying during the entire thing.
Ben Platt's voice makes this song so fun to listen to and this song is just so addicting and fun to listen to!!!
Hey Everyone . Can I thank Ben for this Phenom of This Life Changing Musical . I don't Think Ben had any idea of the lives he would impact. Thank you Ben . Broadway has never been the same since the show opened . Thank you Ben.The Conversations that this has sparked have been incredible. Has anyone been impacted by this musical as much as I have . Are you guys excited for the movie .
어제 봤는데 개인적으로 처음부터 끝까지 좋았음.. 벤플렛이 노래랑 연기를 너무 잘해서ㅠㅠㅜ
How come I've just heard about this song now?! Literally hits close through home when I struggle socially.
この曲めちゃ好き
はまちゃったよ!素敵 !
Really underlines why he does what he does in movie. Finally finding a family and girlfriend. Makes the ending so beautiful when admits what has done to the family.
Of course, what he did, it wasn’t really his fault. It all just poured onto him
This feels so close to me.Screaming on the inside and hoping for someone or something to save you while you look around and see people going on with their lives.
At 1:26 his mirror is shaped like a phone. I love the subtle things they put into films like this!
How the fuck’d you notice that eagle eyes?
25/20 vision
Bloody surprised
@@Adam17805 Four years of school and an expensive piece of paper I'm not using are to blame lol. Fits, doesn't it? The plot has a heavy social media theme and this is 'waving through a window.' It kinda reinforces the title as though he's trying to be noticed, but there's the screen and no one sees him.
@@jordankeller7279 my mind just goes to pretty shapes rather than philosophical questions
I have seen loads of mirrors shaped like that
It’s just so hopeful but sorrowful. I listened to it like a million times!! Love it!!
1:30 Heidi in the background got a chuckle out of my friends and me. I know what they were trying to do, but it highkey looks like she was concerned when her son burst out singing
😂
LMAOOOOOOOO
She’s like “um- okay- I’ll just…”
Enjoying this song so much ♥
Ben Platt and his voice... incredible!
Were doing this song for our chorus concert, keep in mind a lot of us in the class im in (the only class doing this song) have been going through somethings, and the teacher knows about it, this song just hits close to home
One of the best movies.. i don't know why it doesn't seem so
If a lot of people helped people like Evan, I sure those bad stuff like school shooting will go away.
this song really hit me. the forest part really really hit me man.
This was the first song I heard and fell in love with from Dear Evan Hansen!!! I’m excited to see the movie 🎥❤️❤️❤️
Its an amazing show and movie! Also check out the official novel! Its amazing too!
I watched it when it came out in theatres it's so good
I heard Only Us first
That clip of his Mum walking into the bedroom to see Evan crying like that breaks me.
I love this song so much when you can relate to the lyrics of a song it hits so much different I can relate to Evan with the anxiety and depression the four friends I have I’ve been friends with since elementary school if I didn’t already know them I’d have absolutely no friends
This song is INCREDIBLE 🥺
I think this is my new favorite song I just keep putting this on outo loop
The songs that we always listen to every day for years 😍 fan since 2018
I really can relieved to Evan

This song truly expresses what it’s like to have anxiety, we all struggle in some way
this movie/musicul/book hits so close, i struggle with anxity and depression and was admitted into a hospitol for it. so these lyrics and how emotional they are it makds me realize I am not alone. overall this is my favourite story

음원버전도 이미 좋지만, 실제 영화에서 벤플랫이 부르는 버전이 더, 대사처럼 느껴져서 너무 좋더라...
As a anxiety suffer myself this video means a lot
I love this, mate of mine always used to sing this before he moved school, reminds me of him :)
Definitely not as bad of a movie as people are making out to be, though I do slightly agree with some of the reasonable criticism it got. But I completely enjoyed it and enjoyed Ben Platt's performance and glad he came back, his age didn't bother me really because I don't think he looked to old, just a bit though
Song so good that my mind immediantly make a scenario similar to this.
この映画はあまり自分には刺さらなかったけど、この歌はめちゃんこ大好き。
i just wanna hug him
I can’t stop listening to this
For all who are silently struggling. You are not alone. We are not alone. 🤗💕
You will be found!
Alot of ppl hated this movie but I loved it and say and bawled in the theater because it hits home so hard
The audio (from the movie) was so much better than this one, he was literally singing live.
I agree. Most of the time I end up liking for the live singing more than the actual soundtrack itself, more because of the raw emotion and vulnerability they show it there voices and singing, makes the soundtrack sound like a high school production. Even the Broadway soundtrack is better than the movie soundtrack honestly.
Same here and I know a lot of people hate this movie but I enjoyed it
@@bobbyjayjohnson3460 I was so tempted to watch it in theaters again because it sounded so much better in the movie and I really wanted to see it again
Im gonna have to give a hard pass on the movie, the live musical performance is much better in almost every regard. The movie just, it hurts to watch and listen to.
@@redhatpat I respect your opinion.
This is like the best song
This is why Ben Plat was chosen. He has the character to a T. He was born for the role of Evan Hansen.
This song makes me cry, despite being 37. I just can relate so much
I really liked this movie.I have a theory, those who never had depression or anxiety don't care much for this movie and are calling it awful but those who have, I am sure you see his motivations, why he did what he did.People are saying Evan was a sociopath, I mean WTF, do you even fucking know what a sociopath is?
I completely agree with you
@@kayjayt8607 yes, exactly
Thank you! He needs to be loved and supported, not hated.
Thank you, Evan! 😊
Y’all. Ben Platt was the only one that could’ve done Evan Hansen the way he carried this movie. I’m - sorry?? If you disagree???? like take away the “he looks too old for this role” HIS EMOTIONS, HIS SINGING???? Nah. He killed this role I FELT everything he felt, he made me fall in love with musicals again just bc of his performance. We stan Ben Platt in this household 😡😡
