- Walthamstow Market in North East London is said to be the longest street market in Europe, it stretches all the way down the High Street and you can visit Tuesday to Saturday. I visit frequently and have many favorite shops that I have been visiting for years, most of the bricks & mortar shops are open 7 days a week but please check.
If you are not familiar with the area it is easy to reach either by tube or the Underground to Walthamstow Central, the overground runs from Liverpool St., for the Underground take the Victoria line.
I usually take the train to Walthamstow Central, walk down the whole market and jump back on the train at James Street at the bottom of the High Street.
Some of my favourite shops which are featured in this video are:
Zayan Buttons 138 High Street E17 7JS
Fabric Textile Central 134 High Street E17 7BS www.fabrictext...
The outdoor trims stall I feature is usually on the left as you continue to walk down the High Street in the direction of James St.
Saeeds Fabrics 94-96 High Street E17 7JY
saeedsfabrics....
Fabric Store 2 70 High Street E17 7LD
New Fabric Shop 91 High Street E17 7DB
Ribbons 89 High Street E17 7DB
Istanbul Fabrics 175 High Street E17 7BX
A short walk from Walthamstow market is the Forest Recycling Project - they have loads of fabric and haberdashery for low prices. Everything is prevented from going to landfill and can be a better choice than buying yet more new fabric. Their shop is at Bakers Avenue E17 and is open on Fridays and Saturdays.
Hi Nina,
thanks so much for sharing that, I will be visiting!
Hi Nina, incase you didn't see it, we filmed a short vlog at FRP a few weeks ago - ruclips.net/video/PzM4uPyaNbU/видео.html
@@gemimalondon that's incredible! Love it!
Thanks for taking us along to the market. They were amazing prices. I love your quilted coat.
Thanks, yes prices are amazing! will be doing it again soon😀
My daughter lived there when at uni and I loved to visit! What a treasure trove it was and I still use a tablecloth I made for Christmas from then with fabric she brought me home. We live about 25 miles from Belfast and have so few fabric shops and nothing with prices like those!! I love your haul and that coating will make a fantastic coat especially as you know how it’s going to look. What a beautiful quilted coat for cold days. Thanks for the vlog x
Thank you Alison, yes it’s an absolute treasure trove!
Hi, I just found your channel. I was born in Walthamstow and grew up there. The market has changed tremendously over the years and thankfully survived. It's nice to see some of my secrets on camera! I learned about fabric by touch rather than it's description. I still visit every few months for some bargains!
Hi Tracy, I expect its changed a lot over the years but it was as busy as ever when I visited! long may it continue!
I lived in Walthamstow as a child and we always went to the High Street on market days. We used to love exploring it and it didn’t matter how many times we went. So pleased it’s still going strong ❤
Hi Mandy, it certainly is and well worth a visit!
Hi so glad I found your channel lovely fabric and trims I also like that you give prices don’t know why but I love knowing prices
Good luck with your channel I love watching uk bloggers sending love from North Wales xx❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi Paula, thank you! I'm very new to this and it is great to get your feedback, thank you again ❤
I last went to Walthamstow Market about 10 years ago and remember it being such good value. Is there a particular day that's best to go? You've found some great fabrics! Thanks for sharing 🌼
Hi, I usually go in the week, I filmed this on a Saturday and it was crazy. Most of the shops are open everyday, the actual market runs from Tuesday to Saturday. I think Tuesday to Thursday are good days to go as it is not so busy.😃
Thanks, great to know@@gemimalondon
Wow, the Trend pattern quilted coat is amazing! 😍 love all the things you bought as well!
Thanks! It’s a lovely pattern, currently making another one, will be showing it soon! ❤
Thank you for the inspiration. I went to Walthamstow a few years ago and loved it. I'm in London tonight and you've inspired me to go there tomorrow!
I'm a new subscriber and I look forward to letting People know about your channel!
Hi, thank you, I hope you find it worthwhile, I always do, would love to see your finds!
Lovely vlog .Are there any places you could recommend that send to Scotland .I can't even get zips up here .
Hi Anne, thank you. There are alot of online suppliers I use - trimmingshop.com is good for general haberdashery. As far as fabrics go it depends what you are looking for, I buy from alot of wholesalers but ebay is excellent for a wide variety of fabrics. Let me know if there is anything specific you are looking for and I will try and help, Rachel
Hi thanks for the information. Do you have any idea if it’s open on a Sunday. Thanks 🙏
Hi Geraldine, yes a lot of the shops are open on a Sunday, enjoy!
I love Walthamstow market, I’m going there tomorrow!
I hope you enjoyed your visit!
Very interesting vlog. We are discussing a trip to the fabric shops of London, and this is very helpful. Would you say most of the fabric is of a synthetic composition? Or is there a good selection of cottons, viscose, cotton jerseys, etc? Not really keen on polyesters. Is this location better than Goldhawk Road? Thanks.
Hi, thanks! Walthamstow has alot of fabric shops, they vary but there is a good selection. Including - cottons, wools, linens, polyesters, silks as well as blends, vast selection of prints on various bases woven and jersey, also furnishing fabrics. Alot of the fabric they sell is end of lines and clearance - so it may not be labelled with fibre content. Overall it is a great resource, there are haberdashery shops too which are briliant value so worth stocking up on threads and zips. Hope that is helpful. I would go there over Goldhawk Road, i usually set aside a morning and go in every shop and come back with some great finds x
@@gemimalondon Many thanks.
You got some bargains there! Id love a shopping trip down Walthamstow market, E17 🥰
Yes, it’s worth a trip, great prices and there are new things all the time😃

Wow, I have just found you on RUclips. What a brilliant place for fabric and trims etc. I would love to visit in the future. The fabric shops look really good. Your fabric haul is so lovely. I have just subscribed so I wont miss any of your vlogs. Thank You xx
Thank you Tanya! I will be posting more very soon ❤️
Love your quilted coat. Will be planning a visit there. Is there plenty of parking?
Hi Muriel, yes it’s so worth a visit. There are a couple of car parks and you can also use the multi storey at Sainsbury’s, hope that is helpful. The train/tube is also super convenient 😁
I would love to know if there are shops there that stock quilting cottons?
Hi Daisy, you could try Saeeds Fabric at 94-96 the high street, he does a range of cottons, they may be suitable.
@@gemimalondon thank you!
Thank you for sharing this video! I'm planning a trip to the UK - my first time back in a LONG time - and I've been researching places in London to find cheap fabric. This video is really helpful as I was a bit on the fence about going all the way out to Walthamstow but now I'm convinced it's worth the trip!
Hi, thank you, yes it is worth going I hope you enjoy your visit x (let me know if you need anymore info when you visit)
You have inspired me to revisit Walthamstow. I haven’t been there for about 3 years. My favourite stall was the one outside Sainsburys = although on Tuesdays and Thursdays outside the shopping centre entrance. Did you notice if he is still there, please?
Hi Sheree, it’s worth a trip to see if he is still there. There was a stall on the left as you are going down the market towards James St, that may be him. I visited on a Saturday so not sure which other days he is there, hope you enjoy your visit!
Love the black quilted coat! What a great price for that fabric - I am sadly too far away to go to the market (California).
Hi, thanks! yes there are some great bargains there. How lovely to live in California, one of my favorite places! ❤
Great vlog. Goldhawk Road is often mentioned for fabric but Walthamstow is great too. I preferred Walthamstow but they’re both worth a visit.
Hi thank you! I plan to visit Goldhawk Road very soon and will do a Vlog there too, I'm not familiar with it but it sounds very interesting!
Thank you. I was just looking at how to find the fabric shops in Walthamstow as I have never been there. This was very helpful.
Hi Jenny, there are many more that I didn’t visit, you will see them as you walk down the high street, hope you enjoy your visit!
Thanks for sharing your visit to Walthamstow Market. You got some great bargains, and your quilted coat is gorgeous ❤
Thank you! 😊
Nice haul! The same things would cost 2-3 times more in the States and that's when they are on sale. 😭 I look forward to seeing the finished camel coat. Is it wool?
This fall has had me buying quite a bit of fabric. For once the stars were aligned and I found all on clearance online. A beige w/ black and red stripes which I turned into a boat neck top that can easily be dressed up or down. Now working on black jeans. I was very lucky to find heavyweight 14 oz denim with some stretch. The rest... Ponte knit, velvet, pima cotton broadcloth, stretch twill and corduroy. My sons paid for most of it.
Hi Susan, yes I will be making the new coat and plan to reveal it soon! I “think” it’s a wool blend, most of the fabrics at the market are end of lines and left overs from manufacturers so have no labels, but for £20 I will take my chances!
It sounds like you have a great collection of fabrics there and I am very impressed you are making jeans, I have never tried! Happy making x
@@gemimalondon
I made some jeans years ago but they were simple elastic waist for a paralyzed person.
Lately it's been difficult to find natural fibers. I've had to go with wool blend for things but they have been 65%-85% wool. However I'm still doing happy dances for future projects.
Thank you. I didn’t know there was so many fabric shops in north London. 🙏🏻
Hi, yes there are a lot! I only went into my favourites too so lots more to explore 🙏🏻
Happy to find your channel! I keep meaning to visit the market and this has made me determined to get there! 👍🏽
Do visit if you get a chance, its really worth it!
Thanks for doing the leg work for us! Great embellishments.
Glad you like them!
Amazing prices I will need to visit
Hi Linda, it's well worth it!
Thanks for sharing. I need to visit now 😊
Hi Susan, you must! it's such a great resource and fun to look around x
Love shopping for fabric and bits here. Lovely vlog
Thanks Diane
Wow! Loved this video, need more please 😁
Hi Lynette, thank you, we will do more very soon!
