4 Grammys later.... He's still talented. Not everyone can arrange music like this, ESPECIALLY for a Stevie Wonder song. He's just a musician through and through. I would love to see him collab with Moses Sumney and James Blake, who also do their own musical arrangements.
+Derek Williams Jacob is performing extremely well and even though its not my kindo music I appreciate his talents and his harmonical skills. Still, he doesn't need to be put on a pedestal with a goddess covering his head with a laurel wreath, no? ;) Hope he keeps his feet onda ground and creates his personal evolution in music.
+Hoimar Kapenze What an odd thing to say. Performing extremely well? Faint praise! He not only has oodles of soul, grooves, sings perfectly in tune, arranged all that with some dazzlingly close harmonies and surprising modulations in there, plays a dozen instruments, but - oh yeah - he just invented a whole new art form! I know people have been overdubbing for a while, but this takes it to an insane level, even for youtube. Here is a list of less talented people whose feet you could put back on the ground before his: Justin Bieber. Kylie Minogue. Robbie Williams. Sting. The Rolling Stones (yes, I said it). Because it's not sugar coated, because it has some complexity, this man's music won't probably reach the mass audience they have - so if a pedestal helps him, give him a pedestal.
The trouble that I have with u 'superlative people' is that u tend 2 judge everything nice u find on the net as double-mega-giga-cool, or, the other way round, as extremely bad. This is childish. Look at the alias you gave urself 2 register: 'jazzwonderboy'. M close 2 burst into laughter. Can u please keep grounded? This boy is great in what he does. But he he is no 'wonderboy', stupid. He is a simple human. There are no wonders. We are not living in a comic world. I think the trouble is that too many ppl using the internet are drunk or on drugs while surfing so their mind gets too excited. So give this guy the chance 2 just do his thing without any hype. He deserves his audience 2 b serious, not overemphasized.
+Hoimar Kapenze You're free to judge Collier as merely OK, while we lesser mortals sit in awe. Of course superlatives should not be over used but they're in the vocabularly of all languages for a reason, and Collier is in MY opinion just such an example, even if he isn't on your list of favourites.
Jacob (and all of his many identical siblings) are INCREDIBLE! It's complicated, but still groovy. His voice is gorgeous. He can play EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT UNDER THE SUN! He has hugely inspired all of my music making.
10 years ago this man singlehandedly destroyed the idea that my generation lacks musical talent or intelligence. Thank you for that and for so much more, Jacob.
People not believing the genuine talent of Jacob is testement to his brilliance but his followers; Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, Steve Vai, to name a few, cant all be wrong. haters gonna hate, musicians gonna listen.
He's a real genius, he transcends styles, metric and roles in music, he has imagination and passion, he jokes like a kid with notes, rhythm and harmonies, he is asymmetrical, multi-instrumentalist… For me he's the number one of our age. I saw his performance at the Vienna Jazz Festival in 2016 and he was a revolution. I particularly love his tune "Don't You Know" played with Snarky Puppy and a big band. And I think the best is yet to come.
Fairly certain he's a musical genious. I've always had a somewhat natural ear and innate talent for music but this takes it to a whole other level. Multi-instrumentalist, harmonist, theorist. Dude is far and away above practically every musician I've ever played with or met.
Yeah its the breadth of understanding. And while you get magical prodigies like Joey Alexander - Collier's completely neurotypical. Britain doesn't deserve him.
@@izayus11 makes me wonder what you hope to prove by taking issue with my choice of words. I've discovered that listening to JC you don't hear the same song each time. I find that my attention follows particular instruments, or pairs of instruments each time. Also, my attention wanders to other sounds at different moments each playthrough. It's great fun to discover new things in a song you thought you had memorized.

A GENIOUS ! I heard on a radio pograms that he also uses quarter tones in his singing, which, on top of his being a great musician, produces a very subtle effect very seldom heard in occidental music... FABULOUS!!💯💖
Another masterpiece. His use of dissonance in the harmonies is brilliant. The instrumentation is top-notch....i could go on for days praising the musical genius of this dude!
You know, it's really amazing how consistent and even predictable many areas of life are. After watching this killer presentation by this extremely talented youngster, I looked to see the pathetic number of dislikes among the nearly ten thousand number of likes. No matter what, there will always be jealousy, there will always be haters. Most of these aren't even legitimate in their feelings and assessments. It's simply a matter of reflexive opposition by envious, losers in misery.... And we all know what misery loves.... Wonderful job, Jacob.
Too many children and adolescents come to these blogs and lay down their pathological negativity. You can tell they're too green to really appreciate artistry.
Did people every listened to the harmony of the original? Cause that's pretty amazing as well. Mr. Wonder in general has great harmonic structures in his music.

In my view, you are an incarnation of ALL the best musicians who ever lived and composed in one person. Perfect arrangements, incredible playing technique, lightness and playfulness. The best thing is, what you carry with your music: Love and boundlessness! That's exactly what the world needs! And your hands are indeed the proof - not just from another star, but from several at the same time!
Jacob, I saw your concert last night in Australia and you totally blew up the whole venue. EVERYONE (including myself) LOVED IT!!! YOU'RE AMAZING!!! You are my new favourite artist.
People have commented about the genius of this 19 year old (at the time ). The thing that I find stunning, is the several LAYERS of genius that this video reveals. There is the OBVIOUS presentation that the musical genius presents, but the visual presentation is pure genius as well. Further, for a NINETEEN year old to possess the SOCIAL savvy and accompanying courage to step out and even MAKE this presentation... Genius indeed.

In addition to showcasing Jacob Collier’s amazing talent, this video is one more example of why Stevie Wonder’s music is brilliant, ever rich with potential to be taken in a thousand different exciting alternative directions (but never exceeded, of course).
The reason you can’t top Stevie’s version, is because it has Stevie in it. Stevie, is the instrument that makes Stevie’s recordings unbeatable, and you can’t purchase a Stevie. Anyway, I just crawled out from under a rock, and realized Jacob is a genius, and am in the process of throwing all my instruments away…… 🤣…Nah, he’s inspiring!! I can play just about anything I can strike or pluck, and I’m a wonder kid in my own right. So there, Jacob! 🤣 oh, and I’m a Stevie as well, to boot.
I fully agree with your comment, I’m a monstrous Stevie Wonder fan. Have been ever since I ever heard him. I was born in 1971 and heard all the 70’s hits coming out of car radios and clock radios, and big fat Pioneer stereo systems.
Can it get any hipper? It starts with the groove, but the harmonies, modulations, moving contrapuntal lines, etc...and he is soooo young! I'm not sure you can teach this... It would defy reason if he never listened to Take6, but even if he did he still adds his own thing, as it should be. It's so remarkable that I cannot even be jealous... with all the BS in the world, senseless violence, etc, it is so refreshing to see this genius...and the last thing he looks is pretentious...I am so proud and happy for the musical talents my kids may possess, but this is on another level if not planet...where will he be in another decade? We (at least I) have to wonder how many other young (or not) undiscovered musical gems are are out there...
Amazing that a real genius like Jacob has little over 50k subscribers and talentless musically Instagram idiots get millions. It's refreshing to listen and watch this.
The singing is obviously amazing, and the harmonies, but the instrumentation is also fantastic during the latin break down in the middle. Such layers of rhythm!
Jacob, you are one of the best and most accomplished musicians I have ever seen. Incredible and world-class reharmonization, and not to mention you got some incredible funk going on as well. You are the man indeed!

There's talented, and then there's Jacob Collier. This guy operates in a whole different universe of musical genius.
Quincy Jones said that Jacob is a genius....he knows what he tells!
4 Grammys later.... He's still talented.
Not everyone can arrange music like this, ESPECIALLY for a Stevie Wonder song. He's just a musician through and through. I would love to see him collab with Moses Sumney and James Blake, who also do their own musical arrangements.
James Blake YES
OMG, him and James Blake would make me die 😭❤
Those grammys deserved him
God yes
I feel bad that I saw this for free
Patreon, albums, apparel
This cover just screams gold.
Same lol
900th like wow I feels special
You probably saw a bit of commercial before this vid started so basically you didn’t watch it for free (at least he get’s paid)
I must have been living under a rock. This has been around for 8 years and I only just discovered it. Him. I cried.
Same here..today
I cried then grabbed a pair of tickets to see him in London next year!
welcome in heaven.
OMG SAME!
Same here today becausr of a BBC docu
@@NaughtyNimitz what docu?
One of the most phenomenal talents ever to grace Planet Earth.
+Hoimar Kapenze I think his feet are very firmly on the ground, and he is no fool, nor is he a conceit.
How wonderful it is to think that Quincy's support would bring out the best in all those amazing artists. Thank you for the music❤ He'll be missed
The legendary composer of our time has finally arrived.
The Bach of the modern era. Experimenting and revolutionizing how we write harmony.
Stevie Wonder's been here for decades.
@@edidpro But most of us weren't alive when he was in his prime. This guy on the other hand...
@@noahmay7708 ...doesn't write his own songs?
@@edidpro you want to change your opinion on that now?
Jacob (and all of his many identical siblings) are INCREDIBLE! It's complicated, but still groovy. His voice is gorgeous. He can play EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT UNDER THE SUN! He has hugely inspired all of my music making.
Engineer: "Hey Jacob, what instruments are you gonna play?"
Jacob: "Yes"
😂
Lmao
Overused joke I see this on every video of him fuck off
@@@Toon444: I'd post it in YOUR video if you had any.
mark prater doesn’t even make sense bro
10 years ago this man singlehandedly destroyed the idea that my generation lacks musical talent or intelligence. Thank you for that and for so much more, Jacob.
Guess he took all of it, eh
@@styx85was just about to say that.😂
@@styx85 absorbed it
People not believing the genuine talent of Jacob is testement to his brilliance but his followers; Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, Steve Vai, to name a few, cant all be wrong. haters gonna hate, musicians gonna listen.
What’s there to believe? We hear it :)
Touché❣️
Paul Grant Exactly
He's a real genius, he transcends styles, metric and roles in music, he has imagination and passion, he jokes like a kid with notes, rhythm and harmonies, he is asymmetrical, multi-instrumentalist… For me he's the number one of our age. I saw his performance at the Vienna Jazz Festival in 2016 and he was a revolution. I particularly love his tune "Don't You Know" played with Snarky Puppy and a big band. And I think the best is yet to come.
How is anyone this talented? His skill with all these instruments (not to mention his voice and vocal range) is out of this world!!!
In 50 years I’ve never heard anyone do a Stevie song better than Stevie....until now. Love my son Luke for introducing me to this amazing talent.
Fairly certain he's a musical genious. I've always had a somewhat natural ear and innate talent for music but this takes it to a whole other level. Multi-instrumentalist, harmonist, theorist. Dude is far and away above practically every musician I've ever played with or met.
Besides stevie
Awesome talent. I am so glad my friend Andrew shared this with me.
Yeah its the breadth of understanding. And while you get magical prodigies like Joey Alexander - Collier's completely neurotypical. Britain doesn't deserve him.
Makes me wonder what makes you "fairly certain" rather than just plain "certain", or even plainly omitting the word "certain".
@@izayus11 makes me wonder what you hope to prove by taking issue with my choice of words. I am by no means above his skill level nor even educated enough in music theory to thoroughly and completely understand what it is that Jacob does on a basic level. But I know enough to more than appreciate what he's capable of which apparently is lost on you given the topic of your comment.
I've discovered that listening to JC you don't hear the same song each time. I find that my attention follows particular instruments, or pairs of instruments each time. Also, my attention wanders to other sounds at different moments each playthrough. It's great fun to discover new things in a song you thought you had memorized.
Disabled musician here, Jacob filled every gap. He found notes that haven't existed with just 12 notes and thousands of years of music later. I'm just grateful i got the opportunity to listen and learn from Jacob's music. Thanks Jacob.
I revisit this video often, when I want to be assured that amazing things still exist in the realm of music.
Thanks. I'll remember this.
very cool, thanks John!
Incredible Prodigy.......He has been blessed with the gift of music comprehension!!!!!
It's 2020 and this is still absolutely sick.
it's 2022 and this is still absolutely sick.
It's 2023 and this is still absolutely sick.
I'm guessing it just wasn't sick in 2021?
Guys, it will never stop being sick, not now in 2024, not ever
This guy is like the goku of music or somethin
*this*
most likely LOL
Except he's not overrated lol
Yvandres QR dude... Goku isn't over rated ;)
IT'S OVER 9000!!!
His arrangement…that’s his brain harmonizing all the notes voice beat percussion and instruments. He’s a genius.
I'm not worried anymore! Thanks Jacob!
6 dudes in 1?!!!!!! How in the name of Pete!!!!!! Wonderous! Thank you man-boy!!!!!!! We been so schooled by this show of brilliance.
Man Stevie Wonder needs to seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaahhhh.....ummm hear this.

Ja ich mag auch Joghurt.
It has come to this: I have to listen to something by Jacob every day because it is the surest way I know to be elevated and filled with wonder. Jacob’s imagination, intuition, and musical skills are a gift to us all.
With the greatest respect the guy is a freak....absolute GENIUS how he has invented/found new chords and notes to write new music! Was totally moved by the whole concept and skill of the young man. Saw the TV programme last night about his start, journey, mother and admiration he has received from the industry. I am now a fan and will be an avid listener for years to come.
There was a programme? Oooh! Where would I find it? Love Jacob!
Jacob: 0:00 I'll change literally everything possible about this song
Also Jacob: 1:34 I will faithfully go up to the minor 7th here instead of down to the root, just like in the original, because I'm a stickler for detail
lmao
This guy can teach music to everybody here. He did a perfect arrangement.
This video will have been uploaded 10 years ago on October 13, 2013 (6 days from now). This was the first thing he released publicly that got peoples' attention. Amazing guy.
Yeah, a Stevie Wonder song and the fun in playing all those instruments. Love Jacob's enthusiasm and choice of Stevie...
I commented on this vid a long time ago. It is still sensational. Like Amy Winehouse he seems to have jazz in his soul. Collier is a genius and I hope he gets every success he deserves.
..Jazz in his Soul.
He did brother! 2 of them! 😂
Anyone in 2024?
Yes
2024 and this video still kicks
Still here.

You bet!
I can't believe this was 10 years ago, it felt like yesterday when I became obsessed with Jacob's music. I miss this, I miss the old young Jacob that was way over the top, the raw talent of a genius incarnated in a masterpiece.
I hear his Imagination and Creativity, but above all, I hear his Love of music. And it is huge.
He was 19 damn
RIGHT WTF.
@Funk O'Matic he was 19 trust me
He's a prodigy
Pretty much. Yeah
Funk O'Matic fr I thought he was 14 or 15
I want to say this dude is multi-talented, but he's seemingly more than that: he's omni-talented!!
He‘s not (yet) into wind instruments......
4:12 - 4:14 OMG A series of vocal notes beyond the beauty of any musical instrument. OMG.
Wonderful job, Jacob.
this kid has the ears of god
Don......some negativios wouldn't know excellence if it bit them in the ass!!! Only just discovered this superbly gifted young muso!
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

AMEN. What an estute observation. Luther Vandross was booed of the stage on Showtime at the Appolo. Such talent can't be sqelched.
Too many children and adolescents come to these blogs and lay down their pathological negativity. You can tell they're too green to really appreciate artistry.
Did people every listened to the harmony of the original? Cause that's pretty amazing as well. Mr. Wonder in general has great harmonic structures in his music.
WalyB01 he indeed does
as a result, it’s only natural that Jacob likes Stevie’s music.
Sick sick sicko!!!! How could a 19 year old be this talented? Mind blowing.
This dude DEFINITELY has some background in harmony training. No one makes up those chords without some real education damn
I believe he went to Purcell school here in the UK
+JonnyRoweMusic I seen him in a video for the Royal Academy of Music when I was researching the school.
apparently he learned most of what he knows by ear, he said that his year in piano lessons weren't as helpful as listening to his favorite artists like stevie
His mom is a musician and he's gotten some formal education. I'm not sure just how much but I remember him saying that he's studied a LOT of jazz
Jasper Jamm, I think he has absolute ear.
Man that samba vibe hits hard with these harmonies. I’m in love
Yeah this makes my ears and brain expand. Jacob- you have an incredible talent. In fact your music is the dog's bollocks. Take care of yourself, we need you in our world for many many decades.
No worfs to add, just this: I'm a pianist, singer, composer, arranger, so, believe me, I know what I am talking about and Jacob is simply the best musician of our time. Cazzo!!!
HUMAN EVOLUTION RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR EYES!!!
A manifestation of the infinite... A lovely soul who seeks out self-expression... You do it so beautifully that you get to inspire millions...
Thank's a lot Jacob!!!!
Jacob, when I hear your music, I feel like I've arrived home.
An infinite, dazzling and pulsing universe opens and bursts all boundaries in my head.
Thank you for this wonderful gift!
In my view, you are an incarnation of ALL the best musicians who ever lived and composed in one person.
Perfect arrangements, incredible playing technique, lightness and playfulness.
The best thing is, what you carry with your music:
Love and boundlessness!
That's exactly what the world needs!
And your hands are indeed the proof - not just from another star, but from several at the same time!
Get off the meds, moon brain
Jacob, I saw your concert last night in Australia and you totally blew up the whole venue. EVERYONE (including myself) LOVED IT!!! YOU'RE AMAZING!!! You are my new favourite artist.
This guy is the true definition of the word genius. AND he was 19 at the time. What a total freak! Unbelievable.
This is honestly one of the best things I have ever heard
in my life
holy
shit me too
+Angel “wu Heibai” M. LOL
That's right... until you hear his next video!
Genius indeed.
it is pretty fuckin cool to witness true human greatness. they're gonna be talking about this kid for years and years and years and we're lucky enough to witness the prime
The arpeggio at 4:12 just knocked me off my shoes!!! How the heck does he do it all by himself?!?!? What a perfect timing in the recording!
*****
yeah but even if it was moved, who placed it? him so...
*****
also the video never cuts during the arpeggio so, he did it in real time. So stop hatin!
*****
no not much but I am a percussionist and I know about timing. For him to be able to LIP SYNC in perfect time with the audio tells me that he has naturally precise timing.
19 year old Jacob was so talented even then!
that rhythm in the end is just ridiculous!!!
Hello young sir. As President & CEO of the #1 Independent Gospel Label in the USA Flow Records I am highly impressed with your talent.. Keep on being creative and the world will know you as a household name when your season comes... Be blessed..
+Myron Williams EXACTLY!!!
Myron Williams That season has arrived. TWO GRAMMYS!!
aged well...
Everyone is talking about his arranging and composing skills but I am just amazed by the range and smoothness of his voice
Oh those inner harmonies are sooo good. Also his voice is insanely intune
The bass lines still gets me - and all the little details amongst this astonishing performance from one of history's musical geniuses.
The groooooove at 2:28... WOW!! And just a babe!! What an amazing musician!!!
Amazing that a real genius like Jacob has little over 50k subscribers and talentless musically Instagram idiots get millions. It's refreshing to listen and watch this.
this is the soundtrack to me eating a donut and i love it
🤣🤣🤣
HAHAHAHAHAHA
The singing is obviously amazing, and the harmonies, but the instrumentation is also fantastic during the latin break down in the middle. Such layers of rhythm!
Can we just appreciate the fact that master Jacob was 19 when this was released! His music is the most effective antidepressant I know.
Jacob, you are one of the best and most accomplished musicians I have ever seen. Incredible and world-class reharmonization, and not to mention you got some incredible funk going on as well. You are the man indeed!
5:07 GOD I love that fill!!!
I don't care how it was created, but ideas are clearly presented. The ideas are absolutely stunning. Harmony flights are fantastic, just mind blowing. Kaleidoscopic scales wrap familiar melodies beyond imagination. Wow..
Very talented musician, great voice, those harmonies are great, should be making millions with that talent.his musicality is off the charts
