I struggled with the front grill decal, the window decals, the stripes, the headlights, reg plates, door handles and wiper arms..other than that it was easy😆
there was a lot of talk about this being wrong on a 4wd chassis, but I think Tamiya have really got it right with the rear motor, looks like it's slidable without being completely uncontrollable like I imagine a solely RWD car with that wheelbase would be. Looks great!
Hi James , thanks for messaging if it had been a different body shell I don’t think there would have been the controversy . I can see where people are coming from , but as a driveable toy model it goes really well I like it a lot

Hey hey cheers for the comment , yes the friction shocks are a massive let down on it, I shall replace them soon. A lot of people want this body on another chassis, but so far I’m happy with it
Lovely Escort MK2 and cool video and presentation. I think that the performance pf this car is very scale and suitable for it. Good you went for the 17T pinion because the 16T would be too low. I think even an 18T would be fine, bot not sure whether that fits, depending on motor position available options. The sound of it is nice as well and I like your driving style, with excellent throttle control which makes the model move around nicely. I built a Tamiya Racing Fighter buggy last year (DT-03 chassis) it's RWD and it handles really well. I love it. I dropped in a 3300kv brushless motor and 19T pinion instead of the standard Torque tuned brushed motor and 17T and it's pretty fast now but still controlable on 2s Lipo battery. Speed is nice but beyond a certain limit, more of it is of no extra benefit or fun. Cheers guys keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching and commenting , I agree with you that when the car is in motion it’s very scale looking and not unrealistic. I have a racing fighter as well , the black edition it’s w nice driving buggy especially with some added weight up front. I’m also a big fan of its predecessor the dt02 my fav buggy of the more modern Tamiya’s. Take care and thanks for getting in touch
Great vid bud my only negative comment would be with Tamiya ... you being back the most iconic 2wd car in history and out it on a 4wd chassis 🤦♂️ good. Is though bud
Many thanks , I think Tamiya released it as a 4WD as generally it will be a lot easier for majority of people to drive it, RWD might be a bit tricky for some
Cheers Dave Day , I built the car to the letter in the manual and the tie rods are the correct length with a 17mm gap between the plastic ends, but I’ll double check just in case :)
It's really cool! Like you mentioned, I'm also more of a buggy guy! The chassis is really cool, I wonder if they done a buggy version of it, sort of like the TT-02B? In a very distant future, maybe I'd look into trying that... That chassis looks so good!
Thanks , it’s definitely fun to drive not sure if they will do a buggy variant but with Tamiya who knows , I think It would be similar to a tl01b if they did
Nice one Andy, good review. Be interesting to see how it goes after the slight upgrades it seems like your planning. I wonder will you still be able to slide the back end with different suspension. Was very surprised you could with it being 4WD. I guess the chassis stiffness helps as well as the grip of the tyres and the surface. Shame to see you are well used to potholed British roads. :-)
Hi Mark, cheers for watching and commenting. I will do a new video on the escort as soon as I can , weather has been rubbish recently. I have tried the new shocks and they work well the car tracks much better and is More stable but you can still get the rest end out although not as easy. Yes the roads do suck ha ha ;)
The chassis is quite similar to a tl01 crossed with an m03 , the prop is similar but a different length and it sit on the side of the chassis like the tl01
Hi Smiley, cheers glad you like the Tee. Majority of Tamiya’s are pretty easy to build , the instructions are very good when it comes to building them, I’d say the Escort is a good kit to build there’s only one tricky bit I’d say and that when you mount the servo for the steering. Have you looked at any other RC cars?
I was thinking getting back into hthe hobby..(did 8 years before) ...wa slooking at this kit here in finland and its like 150€, wihout speed controller... I used to have (heavily)modded xray 2015 as a drift car and with couple spesific bodies, it also won some prices for looks lol.. but this.. im thinkin of building either 1:8 rallye kit of some kind, OR buy something like a 1:10 sized cheap tamiya kit and the objective is to make the car be able to do rally (gravel) AND then change it to a drifter whenever i want.. are there good h"hop-up" options for this particular tamiya chassis, so that it could be made in to a drifter chassis? :O
Hi there I’m sure you could get them the mfx01 escort to drift but there’s no specific hop ups I’m aware of to make it drift. Tamiya did Do a tt01d chassis which could drift although I think it’s just a 4WD chassis with drift wheels, ftx banzai is another 4WD drift chassis that comes RTR, you could just change the body. All the high end drift chassis are RWD though.
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 I know i used to have a RWD drifter with the stupid gyro and all other nullshit but they are so stupid :D there are high end 4wd drifters too and when i was still in the hobby, it wqs WAY easier to find 4wd drift competitions here compared to RWD.. the rwd side of the drift side is kinda ridiculous.. the cars dont even look real at all with the ridiculous over 90 degree steerinfg angles etc :D im just gonna make something fore fun stuff this time.. :P
Hi Jenny , I really like it , it’s still bouncy it needs thoes oil shocks lol. I think it’s the extra length wheelbase that stops it being as boucy as they beetle. Thanks for watching :)
@@jennyetherington3326 Did you use the double cardan CVDs on your’s? I hand those in my Jimny before putting the Monster Beetle Tr’s portals on it and managed to have the pin retaining clips disappear off the front!?
Good Morning Andy. Can i ask another question about the mounting of the steering servo , You mentioned a measurement of 24mm , just to be sure where is the measurement from & too , I tried to see what you are talking about but i could not work it out. Thanks Andy.
The measurement is taken from where the servo mints onto the servo mount to the top of the servo save the distance should be 24 mm it does show you in the Tamiya kit manual, hope this helps
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 Hi Mate. Thanks for your help. I want to get some shocks like the ones you have fitted just wondered what shop did you buy them from? Thanks again mate i love your channel very informative .

Nice paint job. Tamiya cars take me back to 80s and 90s. Simple yet fun!
Exactly I think Tamiya is probably the brand that has the most nostalgia for people only because if the sheer amount of memorable models they made

That looks awesome dude.
Thank you very much
Blue Sharpie works wonders mate 👍
It does indeed Lee ;) just need to find the right blue ;)
Good review, and great camera work 🙂👍 ps Love the br*thel creepers. You don't see them much these days 😎👍
Hi there , thank you very much for commenting and watching , glad you enjoyed it. Yes I love my creepers , love my rockabilly and psychobilly music ;)
Such BEAUTY
Cheers Ian thank you very much :)
Cool shirt! Looks like a fun kit
Cheers fella ;) it’s great looking and fun to drive , can recommend it
Great vid bud my only negative comment would be with Tamiya ... you being back the most iconic 2wd car in history and out it on a 4wd chassis 🤦♂️ good. Is though bud
Many thanks , I think Tamiya released it as a 4WD as generally it will be a lot easier for majority of people to drive it, RWD might be a bit tricky for some
Great video my friend
Thank you , glad you enjoyed it cheers for watching
Thr front wheels should be toed in. Yours are visibly toed out. Maybe that's why we never dee it run straight.
Cheers Dave Day , I built the car to the letter in the manual and the tie rods are the correct length with a 17mm gap between the plastic ends, but I’ll double check just in case :)
That is just fantastic!
Hi Steven, thanks very much , much appreciated
Turned out nice
Thanks Eric , I’m pretty pleased with it :) Cheers for the comment
It's really cool! Like you mentioned, I'm also more of a buggy guy! The chassis is really cool, I wonder if they done a buggy version of it, sort of like the TT-02B? In a very distant future, maybe I'd look into trying that... That chassis looks so good!
Thanks , it’s definitely fun to drive not sure if they will do a buggy variant but with Tamiya who knows , I think
It would be similar to a tl01b if they did
May be TL01B arms might fit they fit the M03/FF02 😁
Nice run ❗️
Cheers Daniel thanks very much
I like the body of the car 👌
Cheers , it’s a real looker and it goes well
Watching and Enjoying 👊🏻👍🏻
Thank you
Nice one Andy, good review.
Yes the roads do suck ha ha ;)
dont ever get out of the boat- and never set your clips down- great looking rally car
I know was a stupid thing to do , but I did find another in the end , cheers for watching and messaging
That driveshaft on that car looks like they got it off the TL01.
The chassis is quite similar to a tl01 crossed with an m03 , the prop is similar but a different length and it sit on the side of the chassis like the tl01
Cool Misfits Tee man.... so I’m a complete novice to RC’s would it be a easy one for me to get and make?.... looks awesome!!! Cheers 🤘😎🤘
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 thanks Andy.... ha ha funny you mention it... yup I’m now looking at Volkswagen Beetle Rally!! Cheers
Sweet! Cheers mate.
My pleasure cheers for watching ;)
I was thinking getting back into hthe hobby..(did 8 years before) ...wa slooking at this kit here in finland and its like 150€, wihout speed controller... I used to have (heavily)modded xray 2015 as a drift car and with couple spesific bodies, it also won some prices for looks lol.. but this.. im thinkin of building either 1:8 rallye kit of some kind, OR buy something like a
1:10 sized cheap tamiya kit and the objective is to make the car be able to do rally (gravel) AND then change it to a drifter whenever i want.. are there good h"hop-up" options for this particular tamiya chassis, so that it could be made in to a drifter chassis?
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 I know i used to have a RWD drifter with the stupid gyro and all other nullshit but they are so stupid :D there are high end 4wd drifters too and when i was still in the hobby, it wqs
WAY easier to find 4wd drift competitions here compared to RWD.. the rwd side of the drift side is kinda ridiculous.. the cars dont even look real at all with the ridiculous over 90 degree steerinfg angles etc :D im just gonna make something fore fun stuff this time.. :P
It's great isn't it 😀 doesn't bounce as much as my Beetle though..
Definitely get yourself some CVA's though. Great Video Andy.
Hi Jenny , I really like it , it’s still bouncy it needs thoes oil shocks lol. I think it’s the extra length wheelbase that stops it being as boucy as they beetle. Thanks for watching :)
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 my Beetle was terrible to i put CVA's on it. Glad it turned out good great action shots Andy loved it too 😊
@@jennyetherington3326 Did you use the double cardan CVDs on your’s? I hand those in my Jimny before putting the Monster Beetle Tr’s portals on it and managed to have the pin retaining clips disappear off the front!?
Great video
Cheers mk1Jack much appreciated
Very beautiful car and thank you for sharing. If a slow video taking can go round the car and bottom chassis should be useful. Kjust a suugestion to understand more of the Escort.
Really great video, this is old car🥰👏
Hi Rene, cheers for watching , no this is new release from Tamiya kit 58687 only released a few days ago. The chassis has been used before by Tamiya with beetle rally , g-wagen and Suzuki jimny ;)
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 ohhhh great thanks for sharing 🥰👍
No worries :) x
Looks great and fast too ! Purists will prefer 2 wheel drive but the benefits of 4 wheel drive is surely worth the sacrifice.
Cheers Robert , it’s quite nippy for what it is but I’ll be making it a little quicker , like you say purists will prefer 2wd but for what is essentially a toy I like it as it is
Should definite be 2wd
thats sick do they do petrol version mate ?
Hi Deedee I’m afraid not this has only been released as an electric car so far
I too am a fan of escorts!
They are cool cars, cheers for messaging
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 I was making a joke about the “other type of escorts” but yes they are lovely!
Looks very cool. Nice sideways driving too - the only way a rally car should be driven
🏁🚗💨💨💨
Hello. Cheers for watching glad you liked the video. I love this car has a cool scale look and it drives more like a rwd car than you might think with it being 4wd
@@andyrobinsonrc2480
Yeah, it looks like RWD when you drive it in the vid.
Came today andy from just build
Enjoy it mollski it’s good fun to build :)
Not your fault but the wheels and tyres seem too small, good work on shell
I know what you mean but even the full size car never had big wheels prob between 10-13 inch mini lite wheels
Nice build Andy. What about painting the wheels silver? Just realised that I think I have the same radio. Hitec? Running a spektrum module in mine.
Cheers Ciderpang 27 I’m actually a fan of the blue wheels but the mo3/05 wheels are silver do you could buy them I guess , yep my radio is a sanea/hitec 49hz combo. Many thanks
The blue wheels are ace, they make the kit for me.
Can’t say I was particularly interested in the Escort, until I have watched this. It looks great. What’s the chances of a full lighting kit?
Thanks Chris , it’s definitely a looker once built :) it goes pretty well also. You can buy a light kit for it which i think it needs. Might be getting one sorted for it
Stunning car
Hi dwarfs thank you and thanks for watching
That's brilliant that is
Thanks very much :)
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 I had one them years ago I built it comes with 3 different cog wheels you can change over one for grass one for sand one for rock 👍
I can't wait to build mine! Since you love rally RC cars, you might want to check my Tamiya Rally RC content. :) Thanks for the tip on building the MFO1x!!
No worries glad you found the video helpful, I’m more into buggy’s than rally but rally cars are cool. Enjoy your build fella it’s a cool kit.
Andy had to subscribe to your channel, watched your videos on this, ivd got to get one, you got upload any upgrades you do awesome. Got to ask you were you get your crapes i love all that stuff and would love a pair
Hi Mollski cheers for subscribing and watching. I will be upgrading it a little bit but there are currently no stock or very litre so will wait to more upgrades are available to buy. I bought my creepers off eBay they are made but company called underground shoes.
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 thank you for quick reply, keep uploading the videos will be getting mine next week, not looking forward to putting the stickers on,im getting those shoes mate
Finally an Escort RC..how does this compare with XV-01 chassis btw? I have that one and it has pretty good handling. Superb actually.
Hi tmx321 to be honest I can’t give you and honest opinion as I’ve not driven it owned an xv01 how ever with that being a dedicated rally chassis and much more tuneable I’d still say it will be a better chassis than the mf01x . The mf01x though is great fun and slides about nicely if you want it to
