I love my rally beetle. The sand in Kuwait is very soft and the beetle would just sink in the sand with the standard tired, had to buy bigger tyres to cut through the sand....priceless
Yep, great video! Can't wait to build my MF-01X Beetle, waiting on bearings/CVAs to arrive. Will give me time to decide on color and after watching your video green is definitely in the running! Cheers from 🇨🇦
Beautiful. What an awesome video. Therapeutic. I’m such a fan of the old VW’s. Especially the air cooled ones. Ima have to pull the trigger and get one of these tamiya kits.
Great video bro awesome slowmo shots the bug looks great 👍 to bad about the axle at the end but it's a tamiya so I'm sure it's a easy fix good show 😀 👍
put a couple of spacers inside the oilshocks, to limit travel just so, that the driveshafts dont drop out. Did that with my own mf-01x. Its a bit of a wonky contraption from tamiya, the rear rightside upperlink had me totally baffled when I was constructing it. Then again, the end of the travel blocked by the propshaft gearhousing, is about the limit of the suspension travel where after the driveshafts can fall out. It drives very nicely tho, just needs a bit of rigging to get it nice and proper :D Lovely vid mate. :D
@@rexrcs you could swap out the o-ring for some foams too on the diff-drives, should keep the outward end of the dogbone deeper in the cup. Or just go with CVDs :D
I have one of these that I upgraded with a SuperStock BZ and "M" series oil filled dampers. I saw this mentioned before about this chassis throwing drive axles when using oil filled dampers. I had the same problem. There is a simple solution to this. I'm going to be very clinical in the solution. The basic setup for this kit has you follow the "high" setup for steps 24 and 29 in the instructions. Go with the "low" setup and use the bottom hole. That will solve the problems without the use of spacers on various components. Since changing over to the "low" setup, I have no problems at all and my Rally beetle is hauling ass. Cheers!
Yes, thank you thats a great solution! For now Ive recently converted it to rwd only and I dont have to worry about dogbones, 😅. Video of it will come soon
Very cool car. I would try stacking a few washers under the outer ball stud on the side that dosent droop enough, may be just enough to get it to drop evenly.
That really is ART!! I've got the same kit, waiting to be built. But my kids decided it HAD to be Herbie! 🤣🙄 The MF-01X IS fun, as long as you know it's limitations.... which you do!
Really fun chassi even if it has some terrible enginering fails. Sometimes it even locks up on that side (built with high ground clearence setting). Beetle looks good.
Hi Magnus, yes Tamiya does offer this body in both a 4wd MF-01X chassis, and they also have a beetle option on the M-06 rwd chassis. in this video I used a Torque tuned motor
@@rexrcs Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ they're doing bodies of the new bodies of next year's cars on some chassis and I think they're mo6 or there tto2.
Hi, I like the idea of the geometry change but I havent always had good experience with their aluminum. I’ve seen the Tamiya youtube host use his MF-01X with M08 suspension and that is interesting
Currently using the torque tuned with a 21tooth pinion it’s fairly quick for a medium track, If I were to be playing in a wide open area I could do with more speed, but the car is so small and the wheels are so small, with suspension travel very minimal I dont see this doing well at high speeds outdoor, without modification. Brushless is always good for at least efficiency, do it 👍 maybe 17.5brushless or something just under
How about making it RWD? Centre propshaft and front dogbones out, leave in the front gearbox to add some weight to help with front end grip for steering................
hi, the escort model is gorgeous. electronic choices depend on your budget and purpose, I'm currently using the Torque Tuned motor that came with the car and it works great, Id also recommend not too fast, the car is not designed to take corners at super speeds
I have an original 1986 Tamiya Blackfoot. 2016 Blackfoot. 3 Clod Busters 1987 Super and Grey. Monster Beetle 🪲 LunchBox Midnight Pumpkin. I am not done yet. Got my first buggy. The VQS.
@@rexrcs yeah I probably go with the torque tune for that one I want it faster than the mo6 which I did use a stock motor with the two wheel drive beetle.
Hi and thanks for stopping in! I think this could handle a reasonable brushless setup without an issue, 2s LiPo should be fine, just keep in mind it has tiny wheels and have fun 😁
I do not have one yet but would love one, M-06 and M08, however if I were to get another mini chassis I think it’d be another MF-01x, I did have an M04, but got rid of that due to lack of parts availability. Hey Brad Ive got a part 2 Tamiya vs Radio Shack I think you will like, I do some laps on sand to compare
I've done a lot of skipping back while watching this glorious video.! 😉 😉
Power slides for days. Love the racing green. 👍

Exemplary capturing👍👍👍

What wheels and tires do you use
Best beauty shots I've seen from this model. Nice work 👍
Thanks for the feedback
Well, you are going to need it, POOR BOYS SPEED CHALLENGE!!! On that bad Chassis right there! Same cover as well.
Speed challenge looks like its fun! Sadly I no longer have this chassis though so I’ll watch from the sidelines

Super tough choice, this body was almost turned into an overland and put onto a cc-01
It's a great rally car video. A cool friend!👍👍😍😍

Did you have the drive shaft pop out on the rear? I built mine in the high setting and the rear drive shaft keeps coming out ☹️
Add rubber orings in the drive cups to help keep the dogbone centered
