  • After being mentioned to me several times over the last year or so, I finally decide to head up to Keysville, CA for my first episode there. You can expect a great experience in the outdoors, so long as you don't mind the super-blue skies or the enticing aroma of BBQ's all around. Lol

We should link up. I've been here weekend... I'm leaving tomorrow, but I'll be back! My parter, she lives in Bakersfield, so we come up here often. We're part of a claim up here.

Hi Saul, nice to see you out again. Missed seeing you out on the river. I did some prospecting in the Keysville area years ago. My brother-in-law had a small dredge and he ran it up off from the river in a small stream. I tried my hand with a gold pan. I did not find much but had some fun. We also tried a place down the river toward Bakersfield. I do not remember the name of the place. There was a small creek off that ran into the river. We had some fun on those trips. Thanks for the video.

It's my pleasure, Delmer! :) Keysville is a tough area in which to find gold but the scenery is superb. I'll have to hunt around to find the best spots in which to set up and I'll keep you folks posted on my progress. Who knows, maybe I just need to move one rock over next time? Lol Heavy pans, my friend!

Also when you're ready to come back to the San Gabriel East Fork let me know I'll meet you out there I'm about an hour away and I bought lots of equipment plus I'm probably your best bet at knowing the areas of the river I've been out there for a year

Digging behind that big rock looked like a great spot. I guess not so much though. I am sure it's there somewhere.

Yeah, it was great alright. Cleanest sand ya' ever saw. Lol :) That material was so clean Kurt, the gold has probably migrated through it, 500 feet straight down where nobody could get to it without diverting the entire river. Oh well, better luck next time. I'll keep trying until I zero in on the gold. At least my experience w/ the gravel forming the "crust" of the riverbed is consistent. I get a few pieces off the top and then the gold just disappears. I'm learning from it though, and will continue to let you folks see what I do so you can learn from my trials and tribulations, too. Rock on, man! I appreciate your comments!

Seen a guy on another video with a 5 gallon bucket, had a wire basket classifier inside it. Where you're digging it would work great

As heavy as those rocks were, a classifier of some sort doesn't sound half bad! :) Maybe I'll have to rig one up for just this type of scenario. Hmmm, a grizzly for the Dream Mat...

Your losing alot of gold the way you pick the bigger rocks off after you dump a scoop you should really consider making a classifier for the top of your sluice if you tried it you would def see an significant increase in gold recovered.... Some advice from my past experience, keep panning& good luck!!!

I always do my best to make sure the rocks I manually remove from my sluice have had a chance to be washed clean by the moving water. :) I know it’s not always obvious from my videos, but when they're larger I even try to pick them up while grasping them from the top like one of those Claw Arcade Machines, just prior to tossing those things away. Sometimes I let them just roll out if I have the drop! Lol And the way the Dream Mat is constructed w/ recessed cells, it doesn't seem to bother it much. A classifier of some kind sounds like an interesting addition to my sluice, though. :) I’ll give it some thought going forward and if you've seen my other videos (e.g., Ep. 25), you'll know I'm all for building things that make me a more effective gold-prospector! Thank you for commenting!

I'd be glad to meet up w/ you and show you some of the spots I like to dig for the "flour gold" I encounter virtually every time out there.
