Finally, 32" 16:9 OLEDs are coming to the mainstream market. We only had to wait a decade.
Also so glad you are reviewing monitors, cant wait for to review the Q1's ! 240hz and 360hz gen 2 panels!
That’s a good sign for the upcoming 32” 4k QDOLEDs next year!
I wonder if next year TVs will have this new improved sub-pixels or is it exclusively to monitors?
It's been in all 2023 Samsung oleds theis year aside from early 90 class oleds
Were there even any 32" 4k QD OLED monitors out already? Color fringing would be less of an issue on a 4k 32" display because of how small the pixels are, the size of the color fringe would be like half as big as a qhd display of the same size
There are TVs out with second gen QD-OLED panels like Samsung S95C and Sony A95L
I don't any reason for doing the same for tv, because tv's has totally another purpose and the text clarity isn't an issue for tv
@@winebartender6653how do u know if u have an old or new one :( bought mine this month
@@Yazon2006Exactly this only matters for monitors where you sit close. Sony A95K easily won best tv last year with this "issue". Because its not an issue at all for actual TV usage.
pls do more pc monitors... love ur content
keep going strong
One of the most expensive monitor in the whole world but other than HDR True 400 mode, which is capped to 400 nits peak brightness, you can't have meaningful HDR with good EOTF tracking. What am i gonna play with it ? SDR, Age of Empires ?
ASUS and OLEDs. A combination that always fails. Every OLED TV and OLED monitor from ASUS has severe problems in HDR (wrong EOTF and/or broken colors). They also tend to never fix the issues and move on to the next project. A shame for the requested prices...
Very true
The HDR issues with the ASUS PG42UQ were finally fixed with firmware update v040 in July. Took them 10 months but at least they came through in the end I guess. Hopefully they are gaining more experience with OLED/HDR so as to not bork up future models.
@@watkinsjason The PG27AQDM still has completely broken colors in HDR where the color yellow looks like mustard and the colors orange and red are extremely saturated. ASUS refuses to acknowledge this as a problem and recommends to downgrade the firmware to fix the oversaturated colors. I tried it and the problem is even worse + EOTF is only correctly tracked on the current MCM104 firmware.
I regret that I switched my AW3423DWF for this monitor. The only advantage of the ASUS is a higher refresh rate and a bit higher brightness in SDR. The ASUS is practically an SDR only monitor at the moment because HDR looks 10x worse than SDR. This shouldn’t be the case with a OLED. :(
It has been over 5 months now and we are still waiting for a potential fix…
@@groundreaper9421 Sorry man. ASUS also ridiculously refused to acknowledge many of the HDR issues with the PG42UQ and then suddenly one day they issued a firmware fix for the supposed non-existent issues. Their tech support is clueless.
I still haven't gotten my PG48UQ to update the HDR fix correctly. Asus is rarely helpful.
The biggest improvement we'll get is yet to come, the monitors are not glossy yet! go figure :/
The g9 oled and G8 are glossy...
Glossy should be mandatory. Matte looks like crap!
once i get a new monitor im just gonna remove the polarizer & replace it with one that doesnt have anti glare
@@irun2sanaxox I don't think it can be removed easily. Do you have resource for how to do that? Thanks
@@irun2sanaxox I find on newer monitors that they're glued on quite tight and harder to take off than they used to be.
Vincent, why are you giving a recommended award to a monitor that doesn't give any control to the user, doesn't work with consoles, doesn't work with external bd players and doesn't take advantage of samsung's 2nd gen because of ridiculous hdr profiles? Hearing the review, i felt like this is a tremendously stupid buy
what is your preferred solution to viewing SDR content while HDR is enabled in windows? As seen at 0:47? Windows 11 seems to target Piecewise sRGB gamma curve rather than 2.2 in its SDR transfer function. I am currently using an ICM profile to transform it to 2.2, but it's not a perfect solution. Thanks.
People do that? HDR should be rare enough that you can just use the shortcut win+alt+b to enable and disable it (I have that on Logitech g key)
Don't. It's that simple, never have windows in HDr when viewing SDR content
The 144hz cap on this ASUS model using the Samsung gen2 QD OLED panel when it can easily do 240hz is puzzling to me. Especially when you consider the $1300 price tag. ASUS even advertises this having some custom heat dissipation meterial in it so, really strange decision here. Right now the official Samsung model with this panel commonly goes on sale for the same price and it not only does 240hz, it also has a whole smart feature suite.
Saving my money for 4K 240hz Generation 2 QD OLED monitor
I'm most looking forward to the 1440p 360 HZ OLED monitors although I would love to see a 480hz 1080p.
480hz is useless. And no, dont start the bullshit that you have super incredible reflexes. If you have those super skills, go earn millions in boxing. 240hz is more than enough and pixel response of OLED is much more important than refresh rate after a certain point.
@@humanbass let him buy what he wants to buy bro
True 500Hz monitors will have pixel motion clarity that is on the edge what the human eye can track.
500Hz is pretty much the end game for gamers.
@@humanbass 500 frames per second is relevant for your persistence of vision. An OLED that runs at 480 frames per second will have a frame visibility time of 2 ms per frame. That is going to allow motion clarity that approaches old-school picture tube displays. That’s why you want that high FPS so that you can scan the panel out super quickly and benefit from extra motion clarity. Not to drive anything at 480 frames per second natively, because that would be insane.
Those high frames per second let these newer flat panels behave the way our old TVs used to, which is good for retro Contant, as well as actually benefiting from the resolution that we have in today’s content.
@@N0N0111 500 Hz will be all that is necessary for an OLED display because they have .3 ms pixel response time and almost instant grey to grey response time.
An IPS LCD would need to run at 1000 frames per second to be able to get 1 ms average mprt.
Review the Samsung G9 OLED please
And I guess its still not glossy...
glossy is rare in monitors.
Matte finish makes things fuzzy too. At least in my experience.
I dont understand the point of buying such monitor when the hdr modes are literally broken with subpar EOTF tracking.. Asus with broken hdr at it again smh..
Radical thing but maybe, just maybe can we have some normal size non curved 4k OLEDs? I'm honestly really tired of these dumb formats that don't make sense for any users and are really just a liability
Very nice panels. even though I love my ultrawide, superultrawides are just too much for me, in fact I'd rather just get a bigger 16:9 screen again like something between 31-42" but the ones of that size on the market today either are just OLED and not QD-OLED, and also do not support hdmi2.1 (so I can 4k without compression), so I'm waiting for the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM which will come in Q1 2024, with this same panel technology, a 32" 4K QD-OLED monitor, very hyped.
Great review, I'm new to this channel, I think I'll subscribe :)
I want that except in ultrawide with displayport 2.1.
Will asus make an ultrawide with the panel the 32 4k qd oled has?😮
Samsung G93SC has the same panel? In EU we have some pretty good deals and I am thinking about it! Would you recommand?
Missing comparison of text clarity with first gen.
Hey Vincent, I love your vids and you've helped me buy my last two TV's. This is the first monitor I've seen you do. Every considered doing more monitors? I'd absolutely love a odyssey neo g8 and g7 review
The framerate limit is because they’re still trying to sell a premium priced monitor with DP1.4 in 2023… why are these companies allergic to DP2.1?
---> *_Will you review TCL QLED870 anytime soon?_*
My biggest problem with QD-OLEDs panels is the black color looking like dark grey when not using them in a perfectly dark rooms.
Was that fixed in the second generation?
He said that this panel still lacks a polarizer - so no, this doesn't seem to be fixed. That's also my only gripe with my A95K (apart from some random OS crashes).
@@pproba Correct, I'd wait for the new generation of WOLED panels then.
It’s only a problem in really really bright rooms. Just having the blind down is enough to get black looking black. I got the Alienware he reviewed last year and I adore it. Best monitor I’ve ever had.
From another reviewer I've heard the difference in pixel layout is not much, so you'll still have color fringing and if that annoyed you before, it will annoy you again. So basically you're buying the same OLED monitor like last year for the same price, but with 144hz instead of 240hz.
Shame such a great monitor is hampered by such a lack of widescreen support in games and consoles. Kind of a deal breaker if you want games to work with little to no hassle.
@googleuser7531 Yep, even on PC a lot of games still don't have it.
Yeeeeeeeess it's coming!
Gimme this, but cut in half, flat and 240Hz.
I'm happy with the rest. Finally a QD-OLED that doesn't entirely murder text and can display my desktop without auto dimming. Let's go.
Waiting for 32" 4K 240Hz but with 480Hz DFR and obviously DP2.1
Do you think Dell will release new versions of their AW34 QD-OLED models to take advantage of V2?
they seem to be clearing out DWF stock with many sales and the DW isn't even available anymore here, so my guess would be: yes
Nice to hear that some of last year’s problems has been solved if you can trust it for color grading I might be interested as I am no gamer. Could of course be using my 16 inch M1 Pro for the grading part and the display for the rest.
I wish the QD oled gaming monitors would have some standard size models without curve... Honestly this makes it a no-buy from me. Also give me a glossy finish.
This thing is insane!!
Why do they do the triangle subpixels? I don't get it.
My exact question, JOLED proved traditional sub pixel OLED displays are doable
Can’t wait not sure what brand I’ll pick probably wait a bit. Talking the 4k variants next year
Vincent, why aren’t RGB pixel layout used primarily?
You'd just get a sodding tv at this price range, this is not only a bad monitor, it's not a tv, and not 4k. What was asus thinking in even making this vs the smart oled tvs?
So im going to grab a new 55" tv on black friday week. i currently have Sony kdl 55w905a. 90% of my tv use is in1080p and a bit of ps4 gaming. What is the best sony tv to go for with regards to upscaling ? No budget limit
Still looking bad.
I work 8 hours a day mainly I'm at database gui or at Jira page, text is the most important thing for me. Only game for 2-3 hours most.
I guess only option for me is stuck to 4k IPS panel and be happy with my greys instead of true blacks.
I would like to see a uniformity update with retiak units, im 100% certain thia is cherry picked.
💀 can't even play xbox games with vrr, or properly scale/crop UHD content from a blu-ray player... RIP
Going to wait for the Alienware Freesnych gen 2 qd-oled and buy one next year with an 5090 (if nvidia releases it).
5090 isn't coming next year.
5090 will be in 2025 because GDDR7 memory is scheduled for q1 of 2025. Nvidia will do a “super” refresh of the 4000 series for 2024.
2:55 for like 5 seconds sounds so funny
still waiting for a 23.8" 1440p 300Hz QD-OLED Glossy monitor with BFI-Sync across the entire refresh range, hopefully next year 🤞
Add 4K to that 😩
It is a shame how BFI in OLEDs is so overlooked and underrated. One reason I believe is that if everything is not set-up perfectly, the benefits are not visible. So a lot of people "try" BFI in the wrong way and give up on it. Panel refresh rate (Hz) and the content fps must both be exactly the same and locked, including v-sync. Then the "magic" happens. Crystal-clear motion.
I don’t even like VSync and GSync… I feel like I play better when it’s off.
@@philipmangione Locking my frames is a pure W tho.
MicroLED will fix all of OLED issues, WE NEED IT ASAP, forget OLED. Why are monitor makers so bad? MicroLED could have surely be done YEARS ago already, what is this laziness, why we still stuck with bad monitor technologies in 2023.
First time i've seen asus thake an L. No reason why it shouldn't be 240 hz.
prob has something to do with DP1.4/HDMI 2.1 limitations. Requires DSC.. Meaning its not a native signal but compressed. 240hz would be even more compressed.
Too many pixels = not enough bandwidth on connections
Excuse me, but do you know how to connect Xbox series x to tv volume? I installed everything on hdmi cec but it won’t control my volume
no standard 16:9 ultrawide yet...... LOL
makes me wonder what theyre thinking, ibet my 4 testicles, 3840x1600 or 5k2k would sell out. these screens are such a niche market it makes me wonder if theyre idiots
I need the USBC Upstream port and it seems like this is the only Gen 2 OLED 49inch monitor that provides this. Wish Samsung would stop stuffing around and include that.
Hello, please help..please...Is there a " Last or previous Channel Button" on the magic remote ( LG C2 TV)?? Example ..changing the channel between two football games while watching the game on Cable box
Crappy EOTF tracking in 3 of 4 picture presets it’s a dealbreaker for me. Playing games and watching movies capped on 400 nits it’s a shame for such expensive monitor
I'm fine with 144hz, 49inch is just too big. Let's wait for a 34 inch QD OLED Gen 2. Maybe 240hz.
I found two vertical bands near the edge of the frame and I would prefer not to have them if I'm honest.
what about compensation cycles? Is it like the LG monitors that improve after several cycles every 4 hours?
This has absolutely nothing to do with your review, which, for the record was exceptional... but I'm wondering where can I get your eyewear? Those frames are really nice!
Please just stop this 32:9 madness, horrible to actually use, way too wide and not tall enough. Looks so weird even when you sit in front of one. 21:9 is far better.
I want a flat 16:9 QD-OLED monitor.
Can Samsung quits making curve ultrawide crap lul.
Great review, please include a flickering tests for OLED, i'm a sensitive to it, so even a small improvements for those brightness dip will give me and a lot others a hope and relief. Thanks!
I wonder what could be the medical/biological reason for you people. Any ideas/clues whats wrong in your body chemistry?
@@nBasterd thats what we are the “people” trying to figure out. You could start helping us.
@@madmozg constant dilation of the pupils. Something to do with the nervous system. I know that B-vitamins are for the nervous system. And I think vitamin A is mainly associated with eye health. Just some things off the top of my head.
Monitor is dead on arrival because there is no mode that has correct gamma curve in HDR. The one thing it's supposed to be good at
Pathetic fail by Asus.
Please review Starfield beta patch that includes a bad HDR option
For me, I get severe VRR flicker when my PC's been running for a few days. It could be dual monitor related. Or something to do with constantly power cycling the monitors, e.g. when I go out. I don't know why it happens but a restart usually fixes it.
I had a problem like that in some games. The issue in my end was G-sync, once I disabled it the flickering stopped
Still waiting for a 500/600 dollars oled 27inch monitor at 1440p ahaha Too much?
Biggest improvement is text readability? Not pixel lifespan? Meh.
Is there any 21:9 panel with this update subpixel placement? I just got the alienware aw3423dwf and I knew about the font color fringing but I had no idea an updated OLED panel already existed...
Glad I got the G9 Oled cause the rtx 4080 gets near that 240hz in esports games
Sorry but until they rectify their lack of clarity on burn in for the less than the rest warranty it’s a no go for me. Nice review tho.
Unusable aspect ration, and absolutely useless in games, just wasted space and performances.
Btw why so many tests with the Series X? There's like one for every ten PS5s.
Vincent, why do you think ALL of these gaming monitors release with broken or half baked firmwares? theres always features not working, picture settings not tracking right etc etc. why do you think that is?
Great review. I currently use the Asus XG49VQ for work and gaming. I'm trying to decide to upgrade to either this PG49WCD or the non-OLED XG49WCR. Do you think the improvements you mentioned make this new monitor able to be used for work productivity for 8+ hours a day without burn-in? Thanks.
It would probably be fine if you ran it in SDR when not consuming media
@@isocle Really? Thanks.
@sowder Yeah, by running it at SDR it stresses the panel less because it operates at lower brightness. It's what I've been doing for my work/gaming oled for 2 years and haven't had any issues yet (LG C1).
@@sowder dont believe that bullshit. If you use it for work 8 hours a day, it will have burn in, no doubt. Why buy expensive monitor that will go bad in 2 years? might as well get a good mini-led monitor. It wont be as high contrast as OLED but you wont waste your money in a year or two.
Wow, this monitor has a terrible calibration. Either you choose accurate content with 480nit max (HDR400 True Black), or you choose 1000nits with a massively overbrightened EOTF (Cinema HDR). And the 16:9 stretching thing? Not worth it at all.
ah well, continue to wait for next gen monitors/tv's it is for me then :D
I feel like monitor makers are just trolling us with monitors getting wider and wider. Do people really want these, especially 32:9? I'd prefer going backwards to 4:3 monitors at this point. Sheesh.
The panel supports 240 hz but Asus are too incompetent to enable it lol
I just want a "NORMAL" 32" 4K QD-OLED sized monitor. My god....is this too much to ask? HOLY FUCK.
I'm just here for the toothpaste reinsertion comparison
As much as I love my Ultra Wide panel, I'm not going any "wider". The strech on the sides is just getting too intense for me. Especially in fast pasted shooter games the contents on the outer sides move so fast that it's distracting. Really shame Nvidia didn't manage to get their destretching software onto the market. If stretch wouldn't be a thing anymore, I would get such a monitor in an instant. (Well it also would needs to have no or very minimal curve as games usually don't compensate for that either. Not fun having lanes in a moba game being distorted)
Honestly, it's not as bad as you think. I've had ultra wide for over 5 years now and most games support the rez. Especially FPS. The only games that don't are typically pixel based or older JRPG/remakes. Plus you can just get a tool that fixes it for the majority that lack it. Great if you use it for work and gaming.
@@mariuszszewczyk2277the root poster also uses ultra wide, and it is as bad as you think and is even worse. This is because almost no games and no GPU accelerator vendors support compensating of the graphics for the curvature of the curvy screen, so in most games you get distorted experience. A solution would be to switch to a flat ultra wide.
@@tatianaes3354 interesting, I haven't thought about the effect of the image compensating for the curvature. The curved ultrawides I had never made me feel like something was amiss, but I do understand wanting a pure experience. Wouldn't adjusting my FOV help with this? I usually set it to 90ish for most games on a 21:9 and that feels just right. Damn, y'all on some next level shit lol
@@mariuszszewczyk2277Of course you wouldn't notice because Ultrawide monitors don't have curves as strong as Super Ultrawide monitors.
god i hate the windows font rendering SO much
Hey Vincent, what about a review on the Samsung Odyssey Oled G8? Best regards from Germany 🇩🇪
Can you do some 27 inch 1440p 240hz monitors? Currently waiting for the next wave of OLED monitors to hit before I fully dive in
You’re not stuck with factory calibration on PC. PC calibration gives you a LUT to use.
Games don't support that format. I have a crg90 and I know...16:9 all the way.
im getting horrible screen flickering on my g9 oled whenever i turn on 120 or 240hz. im using dp 1.4. would using hdmi 2.1 fix this?
Tcl c845 or tcl c835 better for gaming
I'm most excited for the LG OLED 480hz 1440p display coming next year.
I miss the old vids with perfectly placed jokes and dings. It's like Vinnie got neutered.
CES 2023 is around the corner. Then we will soon hear about qdoled 3.0 panel.
I have lot of static stuff on screen all day always same spot how screwed would i be with burnin realisticly ?
Way too wide for me. Most I’d go is 21:9
How does this compare to the Samsung Odyssey G93SC?
Please, consider making a review of ViewSonic VX2722-4K-OLED, which is based on the same JOLED panel as professional targeted LG and Asus models, but at a significantly lower price.
I hope you get review samples of the new alien ware qd oleds coming next year.
I’ll buy oled monitor in a few years when they become really reliable and more affordable
Since there are barely any reviews about the Samsung inch G9 57 inch mini LED monitor. I was wondering if you could maybe review it!
Is there a 21:9 4K QD-OLED coming?
u can use clear type software in win 11..
You would save a bottle of water if you let X = Asus ROG swift pg49wcd ❤
why is it not 240hz like samsung g9 oled?
So do you recomend to buy this 49 screen ?
What brand of specs is it that you're wearing?
Does any one know if among these new QDOLED panel monitors coming out we are getting a new 34 or 38 inch monitor ?
waiting on a gen 2 normal ultra wide but at 38" rather than 34" but bump on the res a wee bit so the PPI is the same between 34-38"
Please make tcl c835 vs c845 which is better
