Obsessives - Pickles

- Heres the cliché: Alex Hozven craved pickles when she was pregnant with her first son, 12 years ago. And the twist: She started her own pickling business. The Cultured Pickle Shop sells pickles ranging from classic sauerkrauts to unusual kimchees and Kombuchas-way beyond the sour dill. But its the experiments, like the mysterious nuka pot or pickled blood oranges, that really get Hozven excited. Theres plenty of zing, zest, pow in all her pickles, though.
Hurrah for obsession ! We would be nowhere without it.
Its always nice to see someone be so passionate about what they do for a living...
She's not playing around those are good quality tanks
The internet draws out the most idiot, nasty, awful comments from people!!! If you don't have anything nice or helpful to say, better just keep quiet!
Love her passion.
im eating pickles rn. fuck im so addicted to dill pickles fuck i get stomach aches so much but i cant stop eating them.
Do u have Indian pickles? I really love u r job..
There are many methods that doesn't required vinegar. It simply need salts and water. Simple but very difficult. If you don't get the amount of salt correctly, it will spoil or never pickle! She is right, she knows what she talking about. Have some respect people!
She sucks the fun out of food and turns it into a salty brine.
Great knowledge, and very informative video. I would like to know MORE about your company. Please post the link to your company. Do you ship your pickled products? You're a pickling artist in my opinion. Thank you very much, for sharing your huge knowledge about pickling vegetables. You should write a book about it. I'll be a first buyer.
Pickling Artist - what a beautiful expression. And I think that's what she is :)
I LOVE the dedication! haha, what a woman.
wow, i love these videos!
We can pickle that!
i admire her passion
I want some pickles now.
Her love and obsession of pickling is defintely contagious - I'm now pickling cabbage and carrots right now, not to mention plum and apple chutneys ;)
She may already have it but... a very nice kind of kimchi called "moohl kimchee" (translates into water kimchee) is absolutely awesome. The brine is made from salt, hot peppers (jalapenos or anything else), long onions and garlic. It has some veggies like daikon and chinese cabbage, but the real star is the brine. ya eat it like any other kinda kimchi, as a sidedish, but the brine that you drink is what makes the kimchi wonderful - spicy, tangy, sharp and refreshing~~
pickles just fkn rule....in fact enough pickled is awesome. Infact i know someone like this a chick who works with me orders a whole fkn handfull of pickles on her burgers at mcdonalds...u dont understand its like the whole dam jar
Kimchi home made is normally sweet tasting and only tastes sour if you leave it for several months. Korean kimchi is more spicy, Japanese is more sweet. Even though I'm Korean, I prefer Japanese kimchi because it's super sweet tasting.
sukemono are delicious! Im very luck to live in Japan where we can buy pickled ANYTHING! she makes a good point the western view of a "pickle" is usually just a baby cucumber but the range of pickled vegetables is amazing. :-)
very nice video! i was just wandering, why do many Americans have such a throaty voice. I'm studying English and I only hear this kind of voice with American females. Is that just me or is that really the case? WHY!
She said that all foods go bad at some point..however some foodstuffs are known to have an indefinite shelf life with proper storage
Whole Wheat Berries
White Sugar
Salt
Pure Sorghum Molasses
Pure Honey
It was in response to a man's comment geuninely expressing surprise at pickle being more than gerkins in vinegar, I harbour no anti-American sentiment. Enjoy your own presumptions.
You had no indirect or proper reply indications; there was no way I could have known, from my angle it seemed as though an ignominious fop was attempting to incite anger.
I've gotta wonder, how many Americans actually thought pickle was just like gerkins and stuff like that? It's always seemed obvious to me it's a lot more than that.
i wish i were not a poor college students and i didn't have to eat mcdonald's. pickles are my favorite and i wish all my sandwiches had organic one's like you make!
Kombucha looks like Latinamerican chicha which is generally a fermented pineapple and corn beverage (it varies from argentina to mexico). I'd love to try kombucha!
I love her passion and dedication to the art of pickling, but it does seem like she may have inadvertently pickled a bit of her brain in the process.
I make my own homemade sauerkraut with the pickling fermentation process and it tastes as good as the sauerkraut in the finest German restaurants.
oh, i used to drink kombucha quite often. my only way to describe it was a very weak beer flavor to it with light carbonation.
It isn't a genuine inquiry; it is a contrarian and confrontationist attempt at meaningless and trivial superiority.
Nary a thing is more comedic me than a pretentious foreigner grasping at straws to deride all Americans.
The enzymes release acid as well so it's not just salt, it's also acidic. They just don't add the acid.
She doesn't use vinaigre?... But I love vinaigre (but I wouldn't drink it as is... Too strong).
For some reason, I really like sweet pickled carrots and sauerkraut, but I hate pickled cucumbers.
2:22 so this is kombucha!!!! (the kombucha mushroom people sitting around all day....soad song)
Yeah honey never really goes bad, just gets solid and then impossible to get out.
The word "pickle" has now officially lost all meaning relative to the real world.
That would mean I would have to eat my potatoes without salt looool
what an interesting video! Thank you for sharing ...my mouth watered the entire time I was watching your video! : )
Pickles FTW
you really haven't had any good tofu dishes before, have you?
i know i misspelled sum shizz bieeesh, so that won't b funny
A genuine inquiry is a case of pretense and insult? Goodness.
