This project isn't about efficiency - it's a bow towards the memories of your youth. My father's shop also had baby food jars hanging from the ceiling, filled with screws and nuts. Have fun!

      That is a 100% spot-on observation. 👍🙂
Thanks for the insightful comment, Lyle.

I think you came up with a good and inexpensive design for the bearings.

I'm an Artist. Which means I also have to frame my work. Making and repairing frames for artwork requires a myriad of hardware that I may only need a couple times a month or less. I have one of those terribly efficient plastic storage things with the tiny bins. one day the terribly efficient storage got tipped over, the drawers fell out and all the dozens of different items are now all mixed together in a cardboard box. Every time I see this box I think of my grandfather's wall of baby food jars and sigh.
Your design is elegant in it's function and simplicity. Kudos! I see this coming to my studio VERY soon. Thank you

I love it! And I totally agree that being able to see in the jars as you spin them trumps any efficiency of a rectangular design. Well done!

It’s a great idea from the past you can see what you have easily

I have a salvaged pigeon hole rack filled with the narrow version of those blue bins. The baby food or olive jars are a classic I’ve avoided because if I had them down for a project they’d inevitably get nudged off a bench to smash on the floor. Big box stores sell plastic cases (metal latches) with removable fitted boxes for small money that are handy for craftsman on the go. Love the PVC bearings!

My granddad had a horizontal storage system with the same purpose. It was a 4 x 4 with corners cut to 45 degrees so all sides were =. About 4 foot long and hung from the low ceiling. Had the old baby food jars mounted on it ( Probably the one used for my Mum. The ones with the real screwed lids). Probably 40 or so jars. Very found memories or being down stairs with him when I was young. I'm 71 now. and made a short on out of jam jars. Thanks for the great idea. going to make one. Thanks

The nice thing about the jars, as you said, you can see what's REALLY inside, not what you wrote on the end of the plastic drawer in the multi-drawer storage unit. If you find the 1/2" bolt wears the wood and it becomes sloppy over time, you can always sleeve it with 1/2" copper pipe. Grade 8 bolts??? You're sure you've compensated for the shear forces?!?! Did you calculate the differential momentum versus rotational velocity of half-filled jars?? LOL Pulling your leg there, Herrick..... nice job!

It doesn't have to be made with glass jars. One could use any small container that they have an abundance of. They could even be open and attached through the bottom of the container to the top of each revolving shelf. There are many options. The lumber yards years ago would sell nails by the pound out of large revolving containers. You purchased your nails in a paper bag back then. :) Edit: Nice job.

I love it! I wish you would sell them without the jars and I could use my own jars.

Your glass jars are much classier than a plastic cabinet with opaque drawers.😅

I have a few questions for you on the mini bed gardening system that I would like to begin setting up in preparation for the upcoming season. What’s the best way to contact you?

I don't understand this organisation thing. If I didn't spend hours looking for stuff I might get something done.
