I always felt this way about Julian in interviews. Like I feel he's an interesting person but he never really says anything that interesting. It's frustrating
Sexiest voice in rock history! One of the greatest songwriter of this century! One of the best "On stage" drunk persona! One of the best male dad out there! My hero!
thank you Julian for normalising the fact that one doesn't need to portray themselves as artificially upbeat, energetic if they don't feel like it. A bit against fake high energy positivity and bro culture.
@@kyleharry6758 For myself, anxiety makes me feel like I have to BE more; to act more upbeat than I naturally am or comfortable with, which makes me more anxious--a vicious circle. Seeing Julian be this way is actually helpful in learning to accept myself. There's a predominant vibe in the modern world that extroverted is better. This causes more anxiety to those who are naturally quiet and introverted--it makes us feel not enough.
Passive aggressive a bit maybe. You can't always tell people what you really really wanna say because people get offended and you try to be nice but somewhere deep down the aggression is still there hiding.. and gets out from time to time in subtle ways or not so subtle.. like out of the blue...😈. Truth and honesty are often served with ice so people avoid them. No one really want the cruel truth they want to hear what they want to hear. Anyway we like weird people don't we?
After one of his shows in 2014, me and a ton of other people waited to meet him. He was just so full of life and kind. It almost seemed like he thrives when interacting with his fans. He was just so amazingly nice and up beat. His manager was trying to cut things short with him meeting all his fans, and Julian just wanted it to keep going.
I love how real Julian is. He doesn’t put on a front and can sometimes be kinda quiet, but then he is passionate about certain topics, and he has great insight. He’s very philosophical and I feel like I could talk to him for hours

I totally agree. The fact that Julian himself mentioned that most journalists / interviewers are liars indicates that this interviewer gained his trust. At least to me it seems that way

Julian is so gracious in this interview. He has a kind and gentle way to keep the issues real and at a deeper level. Intelligent without being a snob or an elitist. Amazingly grounded for being a such a accomplished musician and rock star. Thanks for speaking truth to power in such esthetically pleasing ways.
13:30 so absolutely fucking true. More people need to realize this; artists mostly. We all need to boycott the Grammys. Like Julian said in Permanent High School: "Just because something's popular don't mean it's good."
boycott? Just don't watch them, don't pay attention to them, don't care about them, don't buy the music they promote... Respect the others who do listen to that and enjoy the performances.

I think that the Julian's perspective about music and how it is like an intermedium thing between the physical real world and a trascendal world is very accurate. I have felt sometimes, just listening to music, something spiritual like a conection and I am not talking about religious songs or something like that, it can be rock, jazz, reggae, the musical genre doesn't really matters, but music sometimes make me feel that life is just a moment which will finish in the same place for everybody, like returning to a place were we all belong, is such a complex thing, a little weird maybe😂 I don't know if anybody has feel that too, is such a soul thing. 😆 I hope I have expressed proper, English is not my mother tongue.
I resonated with his thoughts on music, too! I never imagined it in the way that he said it, but it made perfect sense to me after hearing it! I really think it is related to the soul, as you said.
I love how y’all show the entire process, like off the air stuff and all, it gives a whole different and more wholesome vibe then most all other interview videos I’ve seen.
Amazing interview, don't let anyone try speaking for Julian thinking he is not comfortable or he is unaware. He is like this in most interviews and he obviously had rehearsals that day. Great Job!!
36:58 "I have a bike" I hope yall know my boy Jules is coming out with his own bike line w Warren Fu. I'm so happy seeing this dude expand in business beyond music. Constantly and inspiration and always lowkey. I love you Julian, this is my favorite interview of yours. I can't wait to ride your bike!
the strokes have been my favorite band since I first heard them in 6th grade, I remember the day like it was yesterday. every single member of the band has a special place in my heart but there is no singer on this planet like Julian. pure musical talent and respect for the art form. a man can dream but before I died my dream is to see the strokes live. I honestly believe I can die happy at that point. thank you for existing
@@gramtamtam Same, I bought tickets to the governors ball and I was soooooo close so when I saw they were gonna play at Lollapalooza, I went. I got tickets for them on NYE. Sooo excited!!
Alec rly is a genuinely good guy towards Julian and he was very respectful. I know how tough it probably is to interview him, but Alec found a sweet spot with Julian and really brought him out, great job man !!
great interview. I completely understand when he was trying to explain about journalist and it made me sad when he said he has to be careful on explaining his views so not to offend anyone. Julian seems like such an awesome and humble person 😄
He is too ancient of a soul for this world...nothing surprises him any longer. He can’t be bothered with this world. Julian has seen some things, spiritually speaking.✨
@@cowboykelly6590 You are crazy. He is only boring if you are expecting everyone to sound like tv talk show hosts with their phony personality like Jimmy fallon or James Gordon.
All he wanted was for people to hear his music and feel the art within it and kind of bond with those moments that to them is their entire musical livelihood. It's so much more personal and then you get people just making comments on his looks and he's so hot and comparing them to other bands. I can't imagine how fucking exhausting being a musician who actually cares about what they do must be. I'm just glad I was alive to hear their music. It did a lot for me in points of my life I will remember because of songs they created.
I'm surprised by the balanced view Julian has on the economy and social issues. Awesome. Celebrities and rock stars usually lean one way to an extreme.
I would provide Jules with some mindfulness meditation lessons. He’s thinking a lot and being anxious. He just need some lessons I think, he’s great. Great personality just feeling not comfortable when people are interviewing him and that’s totally fine
He keeps his distance 99 percent of the time and then there’s that 1 percent that he engages and it’s just enough to keep you like “He looked at me, I feel important.”
leaving the footage where music was playing way an amazing part of this interview. Its like we were listening in to them backstage or something lol. So genuine and raw. I love it.
It seems like Julian doesn't know that when you guys are off air that you're actually recording him and would be sharing it with the world. He talks about this constant undercurrent he has to deal with and not being able to fully say what he would like to say about things in interviews while off air. So you sort of pull the wool over his eyes. Anyways, I'm just hoping he knows the off air stuff would be posted on social media. Incredible interview. Jules is the coolest man alive
We talked before, and he knew. I do really appreciate his candor just the same. I think he acts differently because we're not LIVE ON THE RADIO for those parts. But I did send this whole interview to him and his people to get it okayed first and got thumbs up across the board. Jules said he'd be sharing it himself soon :)
How can they not have a coffee maker??? " Instant"? When they start this station...the day before this interview? And nobody went out and got him any coffee? NEVER TALK TO THESE PEOPLE AGAIN.
I love this kind of interviews, very likable host, even tho I don’t like how Julian puts so much pressure on himself, I would like to listen to this station from now on
Great interview. Jules is so concern judging himself. He thinks way too much. I wish he didn't worry so much but you did a great job to make him more comfortable. He's just awkward 😂. I love his mind and music so much. Thanks a million again for this interesting interview. And may I add, how LUCKY those winners are with VIP tickets 💔
He's comfortable with himself, he's simply genuine and not putting on a mask which is rare in the music industry and you guys automatically assume someone lacks confidence as soon as they're not playing a character, he's simply being himself and being confident
Amazing. Thanks for not asking about the strokes, though i love them, it's really nice to listen to his opinions of music and politics. I guess it makes you feel like you actually know him haha
A few people called it awkwardness, but I honest think he's just genuine about who he is. He wasn't fronting or posturing for the cameras. He was just him. I really appreciated that.
A Fistful Of Vinyl that’s exactly it, he’s so humble but also so great, I’m not sure he’s aware xD Also I appreciate how you tried to make him feel comfortable throughout the whole interview, sometimes I feel like he gets nervous when he isn’t able to put his thoughts into words but this interview was so interesting, the questions were great and this is a long hour interview with Julian mother freaking Casablancas, so I’m not complaining, thanks again for this! :)
I think he is just himself, honest and thoughtful. It's rare, so it seems "awkward". I don't think he's awkward. I wish there were more people like him
It was great to hear Julian's insight on Think Before You Drink and to hear his take on covers in general. I've always found that song to be particularly enigmatic and intriguing.
I related to just...all of Julian's sounds and vibes and auras. Wow. What a relatable person. And his therapist? Also amazing. If only we could all feel this supported.
And that's how you passively get one of the most reclusive rockstars to open up. Only Julian Friends' get to see this side of him. Thanks for revealing this.
Es normal, los neoyorkinos suelen arrastrar bastante las palabras, y encima de eso, Julian siempre ha sido como muy "too cool" como para siquiera hablar jajaja, de The Strokes, quien habla a veces más clarito pueden ser Fab o Albert.

I hope I have expressed proper, English is not my mother tongue.
I resonated with his thoughts on music, too! I never imagined it in the way that he said it, but it made perfect sense to me after hearing it! I really think it is related to the soul, as you said.
I think virtually everyone experiences this.. music is so much deeper and important for humanity than it is commonly given today.
I love how y’all show the entire process, like off the air stuff and all, it gives a whole different and more wholesome vibe then most all other interview videos I’ve seen.
[suddenly] "You guys have coffee?"
5:08 his body language is saying, " fuck that shit " when they told him instant coffee 🤣
Hope you Will get your dream come True 😊 I finally did this year 😊

Alec rly is a genuinely good guy towards Julian and he was very respectful. I know how tough it probably is to interview him, but Alec found a sweet spot with Julian and really brought him out, great job man !!
33:03 You can tell just how frustrated and genuine Julian was here.
I understand what he means.
great interview. I completely understand when he was trying to explain about journalist and it made me sad when he said he has to be careful on explaining his views so not to offend anyone. Julian seems like such an awesome and humble person 😄
"I DON'T TALK SO GOOD!" lives rent free in my brain tbfh.
He may be tired, but the man is woke
A+
Woke is cringe as fuck
@mr jones daddy chill
He is too ancient of a soul for this world...nothing surprises him any longer. He can’t be bothered with this world.
Julian has seen some things, spiritually speaking.✨
If I would work there and Jules asking for coffee I would ran my soul out to get him the best coffee ever asap
Oh!!No coffee for the Hungover Drunk !
He needs water !
I feel like julian is going to cry in every second
The lyrical poet of a generation, "yeah, I mean..uh yeah."
And BORING ! too Listen too .
Don't forget that.
Awesome. Celebrities and rock stars usually lean one way to an extreme.
u still sure about that? hahaha
@@mariajoselarrranaga3959 Did something change? I'm out of the loop.
I would provide Jules with some mindfulness meditation lessons. He’s thinking a lot and being anxious. He just need some lessons I think, he’s great. Great personality just feeling not comfortable when people are interviewing him and that’s totally fine
Lol. He’s coming down from a coctail of uppers and downers.
He has the softest voice I have ever heard
I never knew this is what his voice sounded like. Wow. Just sultry.
He keeps his distance 99 percent of the time and then there’s that 1 percent that he engages and it’s just enough to keep you like “He looked at me, I feel important.”
I fall in love with people like that, and it’s so painful agh
Shout out to all the attachment disordered folks 👋
Huge props to the interviewer for being articulate, witty, and most importantly just a really genuine and decent human being. [RT]
Julian is so awkward. I love it. I He is so much fun to watch. Always makes me smile. Of course his looks don't hurt.

leaving the footage where music was playing way an amazing part of this interview. Its like we were listening in to them backstage or something lol. So genuine and raw. I love it.

I adore this interviewer, he’s so likeable despite Julian being a pretty challenging one to speak to in this one
BAHAHAHA... 🤣.. HE'S BORING !
I had the opposite feeling. He really was trying to fake-ly suck up to him
It seems like Julian doesn't know that when you guys are off air that you're actually recording him and would be sharing it with the world.
@@AFistfulOfVinyl Awesome man, that's so great to hear. This is the best Julian interview out there. Thank you so much, you were a great host :)

How can they not have a coffee maker??? " Instant"? When they start this station...the day before this interview? And nobody went out and got him any coffee? NEVER TALK TO THESE PEOPLE AGAIN.

Estoy aquí después de ver a The Strokes en Pal Norte 😁, yo disfruté muchísimo el concierto y por años esperé verlos en vivo ❤️
Hi
Thank you for noticing :) that's 100% what I was going for.
Carlos Fuentes c
He's comfortable with himself, he's simply genuine and not putting on a mask which is rare in the music industry and you guys automatically assume someone lacks confidence as soon as they're not playing a character, he's simply being himself and being confident
This video should called
"Julian being Julian for 56 minutes straight"
This is how we love him xD
I've already seen the first upload of this interview, and yet...here I am. Guess I know what I'll be doing for the next 56 minutes.
LOL this is like The Office or something. I love Julian. He never knows what to say just like any of us else. Really humbling lmao
Amazing. Thanks for not asking about the strokes, though i love them, it's really nice to listen to his opinions of music and politics. I guess it makes you feel like you actually know him haha
Julians his usual self, but unlike most of his interviews, this one has a good interviewer! Great job Fistful of Vinyl!
there’s something I really love about this interview, I think it’s Jules awkwardness, but I have been waiting for this! ty ty ty!
I wish there were more people like him
Julian reminds me of a lost puppy looking for its mommy. There's something about him where you just want to take care of him.
