This is it. This is the video that will get my x-step where it needs to be. Amazing explanation and compilation of Pros using this form. Explaining the timing really makes the difference
You are definitely focusing on something important other coaches sometimes miss. My left arm form was backwards, pulling it behind way too far. Every bit of your advice I've managed to follow so far has helped me.
I really like how all of these concepts are simplified and easily applicable. These kind of explanations really make it a lot easier to feel good form when you are practicing
Yep a front leg player. Guilty as charged sir. Very in depth explanation on correct form and how to execute the rubber band effect you spoke of. Now if we can just get past this foot of snow dumped on us in this midwest winter I can practice this technique. Thank you so much for your vids.
Still can’t get enough of your excellent coaching technique, very comfortable and easy to follow, coach T is the best at explaining and breaking down the form step-by-step. I love every video you have put out, keep up the good work and as always keep grinding.
Yasss!!! I’ve been doing the one two three, stuck on the left heel out of the X- step for my entire disc golf career. This has changed everything. Now that the tension is in my back, I can finally relax my arm and just focus on getting a full turn with that part of my body and gliding forward on the ball of my left foot like a pitcher, then shooting with my left side right before my weight shifts to my plant foot. Total eureka moment. Thank you!
I’ve come across your videos off and on over the past few months. I am increasingly appreciative of your approach and explanation/visualization of the double-move. Thank you for your content sir!
I have basically sent this to all the disc golf ladies I know. Thank you for the excellent content, it is truly youtube and our disc golf teachers who are the rockstars of growing the sport.
Might be the best video I’ve ever watched for form. Something just clicked with me and I love where you showed the clips of different pros doing the 1-2-1 x step. Great job Coach T!!!
I think I noticed this a while back. I saw that the pros last step was significantly slower than the first two, so I was just slowing down my last step, but I think this is a game changer man. Love your stuff! Keep em coming!
It's so much easier to feel the weight transfer when you start to focus on keeping your balance. I remind myself to "dip your toe in the water," and it almost forces me to keep the weight on the back foot
I've been trying and trying and trying to hit the 350' mark with my Teebirds. About a year ago I was at 300' and for a while I plateaued. I couldn't go any further. Maybe with the help of a tail wind I was hitting 320'-325'. I discovered your videos a couple months ago and now I'm consistently hitting 350-375'. This is the video that did it. Breaking down the X Step timing, slowing myself down, and putting the weight on my back leg. I'm just coming back here to grab the link so I can send it to a friend who's struggling to surpass 300', and just wanted to leave a comment telling people what your video(s) have done for my game.
I slowed my run up down to a walk and tried to slow down my mechanics and it actually made me throw farther and more consistently . Thank you coach T ❤️
I’ve watched 100s if not 1000s of videos and no one explains this as well as you. Imho you have to be punching that off hand down/over if you want to throw over 400 and no pros talk about it. If I’m nit picking the only thing you do wrong is not keeping the disc in the line you want to throw it’s moving around a bit I bet you could be more accurate if you lined it up and kept it there before the throw. You’ve perfected the double move and get a ton of power out of it,the most important move in dg, well done!
This definitely is what I needed to watch to help rebuild my form. I remember seeing your earlier videos describing the rubber band effect and creating lag with extension and it’s been the most concrete evidence I could look at and understand what I’m doing in comparison to a Pro. Keep up the good work on breaking down these little details of the sport!
This is a great video. It took me so long to put this together, to not start the throw with my throwing hand/arm, but to get that whip. What made it click for me was realizing that I was getting way more pop, relative to how hard I was throwing, when I would throw from a standstill. It's because I was getting the rubber band effect and was actually using my lower half to generate power. I just tried to recreate my standstill with the walk/run up and bingo.
Kept this video in mind while playing this morning, definitely felt a big difference. I had discs turning out of hyzers that normally don't and it felt like I was throwing softer than normal. Thanks for the help man!
I concur with what so many other people are saying. Thank you for this! There's something about the way that you teach, the slowmos are important, but I just have epiphanies when I watch your coaching videos and then I can go out and work it more easily. I've been trying to understand the rubber band effect for a while now and that just gave me a huge aha... step and glide y'all!
I’d just like to say thank you! By simplifying the movements and breaking down what I didn’t realize I was doing wrong (Brodies style) I’ve been able to gain 50-60 ft on my drives. I genuinely appreciate your help!
What an epiphany! I always knew my timing was off but, couldn’t figure out how to fix it. The delay with the balance and glide is it. I need to try this next time out! Awesome explanation!
Awesome! Exactly what I've been trying to explain to people regarding hip mechanics and reachback timing. I'll be linking this video to save myself a lot of time writing long explanations in the future =)
YOU KILLED IT BRO!...1, 2.......1....unreal...I always wondered why their walk up looks soo smooth....it's the slide, not the step...now it's time to go try it!! TY!!!
The explanation of the left arm being engaged in the throw is incredibly insightful! I've never heard this before. Even in pros' distance how-tos. I cannot wait to get out in the field and try this! I've used techniques Drew shared with Brodie and guy 50 ft and can now throw a 13 speed decently. I think this might make all the difference and get me to 14 speeds and max distance! Super stoked!
yeah this gives me hope cause i'm so far from doing this correctly and this is the clearest explanation i've watched yet. so much muscle memory that i need my body to forget though
watching you on Ben's big drive.... figured i better subscribe to your channel. my backhand is pretty much maxed at like 300-350... no matter how much harder i try, thats it. can't wait to try this. def gonna watch the rest! thanks!
I absolutely love your ability to analyze and articulate. Continue what you do. One of these days I'm going to fly out to wherever you're at stay for a weekend and probably pay you a whole lot of money to help me to refine my game. I will find you 😎You can run but you can hide 😆
an interesting point on your observation of how this stretches the back. i think you are on to something there. i once heard simon say that if he throws a lot, the muscles on him that get sore are on his back like his delts and around the shoulder blade.
regarding that back arm. there are two styles, one is a drive forward of the rear hand like paul or drew which drive the back shoulder forward. the other is a swim forward where the back hand kind of swims to push the back shoulder forward like brodie and gurthie. eagle and simon have a sort of hybrid that drives down straight and then swims slightly. it's not that brodie isn't engaging, it's that he does it differently. in the old brodie video he doesn't do it, but in this one he does. ruclips.net/video/0egrxTWzeag/видео.html. but yeah, double g doesn't drive the arm forward and gets major distance, because it's more about what that arm does to the shoulders/torso/back. bringing it back on the reach back is wrong as you said, but it doesn't need to drive forward per se, as long as it drives the shoulders forward.
All your vids are so well thought out. Curious if you have any background in anything that gives insight into this stuff or if you're just a dude who is mega obsessed with disc golf drive form. Anyway always appreciate the content. These videos are gonna get consistently throwing over 400 some day 😁
I was a basketball skills coach and player. I taught the crossover for years. I think basketball moves translates to backhand. At least that’s how I see it lol.
I agree Jake,Coach T in another field of work I truly believe that you could have been and probably still can be a detective. Analyze the situation, see see the unseen. Then when you have done exactly that then you leave everyone awestruck with Sherlock Holmes analytics. Well done my good man well done indeed !!
Haven’t seen the plant step addressed like this, and this seems to be a large part of my problem - stomping down on my plant foot, plus rounding, and messing up my timing by throwing the disc before I’m planted.
This is so close to what Ive been trying to mimic lately. The last step is more like trying to slide on a hardwood floor in your socks than it is a step. If you step on top of your leg like you showed Brodie doing youre losing so much power from your lower body.
Great video I want to verify because I believe this is crucial what you are teaching. I would like to know are still getting great distance because it seems that you have dialed down the speed of your run up.
Hi Chad. I am really just focusing on accuracy/effortlessness when it comes to my own form. I don’t really try to get max distance anymore. I’m feeling good up to 450 though. I want to be a bullseye 🎯. I think I’m evolving a bit lol.
@@slingshotdiscgolf1897 Hey I just noticed you replied. ( I am new to this commenting stuff) I understand. You want to help others unlock this move so it is all about having it totally dialed not blasting through moving past before you know exactly what got you there so you can teach it. That's a classy move. Keep it up love the new content.
Hey brother, will you do a video on how "proper" form affects accuracy? Like, how come Paul or Eagle or Calvin, etc. can consistently throw the same with proper form? What is it about the form that makes that happen?
This advice is awesome. What about the amount McBeth reached over with his legs than Brodie? McBeth looks like he took a longer leg extension in his last step also. Thats gotta add more to the throw also right?
I first played 25 yrs ago. Now I am 47 and trying to relearn my driving is difficult. My left arm does not want to move in that direction at that timing. I keep thinking a resistance band pulling on it while im practicing the xstep might get my muscles to learn the movement ( having a helper for this would be key). I also think the bodies flexibility limits the rubberband effect. If your hips and lowback won't rotate or your hamstrings are tight it limits the range of the steps and fast explosive movements.
I agree with everything you say about flexibility and I plan to make a video on it soon. Also, I’m available anytime for form analysis/lessons if you want a second set of eyes. Thank you for watching!
Man you put some stank on that disc in your opening throw. I have been studying the left arm movement a lot and how you punch down and in before the right arm is extended and this is really the key has got me throwing past 400 after a year of practice. It feels so good to find that extra 50ft you have been craving. BUT, you have to learn to foot work first, it was all I could do to just get the legs and hips involved Before I could think about my left arm. But now a year in and 300 hrs of practice I am exactly where this video is, and I am so thankful for the way you cut to the truth like white steel Japanese santoku knife and avoid all the childish humor that other channels rely on. Man that snap you got on the disc, must be able to hear that 50 ft away. Poor discs.
So obviously a late comment, I just found your content and it’s the best I’ve seen. Is it ok to leave the off arm to the side to start? I’ve been having trouble getting the timing down of the double move. Can I start by just engaging my legs and abdomen as the start of the sling shot and then slowly move in the arm for power?
So my understanding of this is that the peak of the reach back, your plant foot planting, and your left arm/leg/ and core activating all happen at roughly the same time? And delaying the plant foot is what helps you get to that point? Is that correct?
Hi Coach, thanks for the great content(became a patron today) and greetings from Northern Europe. I'm a bit confused about the following thing: On one hand we need to slow down third step(1-2-Balance -Glide) but on the other hand we need to avoid extending our right hand back too early. How those 2 concepts are connected if at all? I'm thinking when I manage to slow down 3rd step it kind of creates the problem of having right hand extended back too early?

You can get a review and have some 1 v 1 time to talk and ask questions, or you can sign up for a bigger tier with more drills. Hope to see you there. Either way I appreciate you watching my channel.
