I think Six Flags Over Georgia has a pretty good coaster collection. I mean, first, you got the Scream Machine, which is the classic old woodie. Then you got Georgia Scorcher, the awesome stand-up coaster. Then you got your boring parking lot batman clone, and the only inverted coaster in the park. Then, you got Blue Hawk, your classic Vekoma MK1212 or MK1200, I don't even know. Then, you got Dahlonega Mine Train, which was the park's first roller coaster. Then, you got Goliath, my personal favorite in the park. Twisted Cyclone, their most recent roller coaster is pretty cool. Just don't leave THAT park out of the picture when you're talking about roller coaster collections.
I first started going to Kennywood in 1954 (I'm now 77). It was the beginning of a love-affair with roller coasters. Bob Henninger, of the Kennywood Park-owning Henninger family, was a fellow member of an undefeated Paul Martha-quarterbacked Shady Side Academy football team.
I was trying to explain these rides to my girlfriend and I love how you explained them! I would disagree with some rankings but regardless, description of each one is true to perfection. This year will be the first time she'll be going to Kennywood and we are so excited.
Based on what I have seen my expectations going into Kennywood would be: Top Tier- Phantom's Revenge- Should challenge my Top 10 Next Tier- Steel Certain- Should be a Top 50 coaster for me Next Tier- Thunderbolt, Jack Rabbit, Sky Rocket- Coasters that might be between 51-100 for me Next Tier- Racer, Exterminator- Coasters in the range of 100-175 for me. Not worried about the kiddie coaster as I won't be able to ride. These would be my expectations going in Kennywood. I'm looking forward getting out to Kennywood.
I think Phantom might be my favorite coaster of them all, and I've ridden some more thrilling coasters at other parks. Two things make it really stand out: first being, of course, its second hill. It's taller than the first by taking advantage of the surrounding terrain, and it goes under another ride, The Thunderbolt. The second thing would be its iconic Arrow chain lift. That clanging sound it makes . . . you can hear it echoing from the moment you get out of your car in the parking lot across the busy street, and you hear it throughout most of the park. It's like it's demanding to be heard and respected. Whenever I think of a roller coaster's chain lift sound in my mind, I always think of the Phantom's.
@@coasterdaddy7123 solid ride. I liked how the second hill was the biggest drop. My buddy and i road at least 20 coaster rides that day, including a dark ride . i do not recall its name. @@littlekingjohngaming8425 you cant. The steel phantom doesn't exist anymore. They removed the loops and tight curves and changed the name to phantoms revenge about twenty years ago.
Did not make it there to ride the Phantom but did ride the revenge. Agree with everything said about airtime and Gs. Aerodynamics and Ron Toomer also did the Magnum XL at Ceader Point. After riding the two, other than the view of lake Erie on the Magnum, the Phantoms Rvenge holds its own very well. In myopinion it may not be as long of ride but what one goes through riding it is unique. Also thanks for the feedback on the other coasters at Kennywood. We'll done!
We were there the day steel curtain opened and though I was still too short to ride, my mom and older sister, brother, and cousins were some of the first to ride it.
You just have to put timestamps with titles in the description. Go to the description to see how I formatted it! 😁 Just know it's important to put a marker beginning with 00:00 otherwise it won't work!
I was at kennywood recently and I REALLY wanted to ride the steel curtain but didnt get to ride it, glad to know it is actually a pretty fun ride and will hopefully get to ride it one day!
Phantom at the top- as it should be! Great list, although I would switch Thunderbolt and Sky Rocket as I prefer the former, especially after this year's retracking. I should dig up my old home movie footage of me on Lil' Phantom in 1998. Might be funny to include in a video!
Great list! I actually like Racer more than Jack Rabbit and Exterminator. I've gotten some decent airtime in the back row and I love how it's one of the few coasters out there that still races.
8: Kiddy Phantom (Not thrilling at all) 7: Steel Curtain (Way too much) 6: Jack Rabbit (Great moment but a little underwhelming) 5: Sky Rocket (A little too much but still fun and underrated) 4: Thunderbolt (A classic and iconic coaster) 3: Phantom's Revenge (The face of Kennywood) 2: Racer (A good starter, one I rode it for the first time, I wanted to do it again and again, my first roller coaster ever) 1: Exterminator (One of a kind, no ride like it)
Great list! Small correction: Steel Curtain has the most inversions in the US not in the world, the current world-record holder is The Smiler at Alton Towers in the UK with 14 inversions.
The Drachen Fire dive drop is the highest elevation for an inversion anywhere in the world (that is, until the T-Rex coasters make that record unbreakable for any other model or CP retrofits Dragster to have an inverted top hat so they can claim it's the world's tallest inversion).
For the Kennywood coasters I’ve ridden, I know my favorite coaster there is controversial but I just had so much fun on it - Exterminator 🤷🏻♀️ Then Phantom’s Revenge, Thunderbolt, Jack Rabbit, Sky Rocket, and Racer.
Coaster Daddy HAHAHAHA!🤣 Stupid autocorrect! Exterminator was just so much fun in almost complete darkness, and we were falling over each other hysterically laughing. It was just too much fun☺️ One of my favorite coaster memories 🥰
Great list Dale! I very agree with all your points. Haven't got Sky Rocket and Steel Curtain yet because they were closed when I went last June. I was underwhelmed with the park and I would love to retry sometime. What should I expect for my missed credits?
My favorite rides at kennywood are phantom revenge black widow or sky rocket , sadly i havnt rode the steel curtain yet but next time i go i will probably
Great review. I can tell you are not from Pittsburgh and not because of the dislike of the Steel Curtain name. We call the Jack Rabbit's double down a "double dip." I actually agree with most of your list. I grew up at Kennywood. They would kill me but I think Jack Rabbit is over rated. Its a fine old coaster but if you removed the double dip, it would be lame. I much prefer Steel Phantom to Phantom's Revenge. One thing you did not mention is why Kennywood redesigned the Steel Phantom. There were too many neck injuries with all the inversions happening right after each other. I never experienced a neck problem but Kennywood got tired of the complaints and lawsuits. I like Phantom's revenge but how can you not have at least one loop on such a steel coaster is beyond me. So I am a bitter person because I miss the Steel Phantom. Coincidently, the original Pippin coaster was also redesigned because there was a big bump in the track they thought was way too rough for the average rider. So that was redesigned in 1968 for the Thunderbolt. Kennywood has very limited space and they do an excellent job to put in these giant coasters.
If you grew up in the Pittsburgh area you know you had to get a fresh outfit for Kennywood day! I think Kennywood is what I miss the most about living in the area.
I personally hate the phantoms revenge but everyone has their own opinion. my favorite is definitely steel curtain. I like that my local amusement park has something like that there
I am going back tomorrow! i will NOT ride Phantoms Revenge ever again it is too painful. I am praying Steel Curtain is open I am dying to go on it so fingers crossed ! My favorite is Exterminator followed closely by Thunderbolt 😄
I have only (whatever the past tense of ride is) racer, jackrabbit, mini phantom, phantoms revenge, and exterminator. I've also been on Kennywood plunge if that counts. please make more worst to best vids and maybe even all Kennywood rides worst to best.
Sadly I didn’t do both layouts of racer the day I went last summer so technically I haven’t experienced the full ride but I still give myself the credit since I don’t count dueling woodies as 2 credits anyway but that’s my own opinion. For me: 1.Steel curtain (got a sick back row night ride on it when it had warmed up which gave it the edge over phantoms revenge for me.) 2.Phantoms revenge (wish I had gotten more rides on it only got 2 sadly.) 3.Skyrocket (impressive first launch and a very underrated and forceful layout.) 4.Thunderbolt 5.Jack rabbit 6.Racer 7.Exterminator The only cons I saw that I didn’t like was that thunderbolt has that ridiculous 2 to ride policy which I guess must be from a design standpoint where the train could valley without 2 riders being in each car I guess, but I’ve never known for sure why that policy is in place I had a hectic time finding a single rider to ride with.
I’m going to kennywood for the second time on Sunday and I’m terrified because my friend is making me ride the steel curtain and it will be my first time in a rollercoaster

I'd flip flop Skyrocket and Thunderbolt. Other than that, spot on.
People. The park opened in 1898, not 1899. Their first day of operation was May 30, 1898
I've done my research. It was "founded" in 1898, "opened" in 1899.
I was 5 years old when I rode the phantom me now 18 years old it's still my favorite Rollercoaster just went the other day I got on for my first ride of the day and it was my last ride of the day I can't wait to go back in a couple of weeks and make my height phobic boyfriend to ride it gosh he is going to have a complete meltdown before the ride even starts when we are going up that huge hill
Skyrocket is awesome through the brake run then it's like a kid was playing rct and got bored. Thunderbolt over it by a mile
Even without riding SC or Skyrocket i agree with this list, only thing is jackrabbits doubledown seemed a little overrated for me
I will say that when I rode Jack Rabbit last year that double down wasn't as strong as I had remembered, and I believe I was sitting in the back.
I don’t know weather I more disturbed by kangaroo being removed, or the channel name being “coaster daddy”
My favorite is the Thunderbolt.
I hate the phantom because whenever i ride it it the airtime hills are painful. The seats need padding
the steel phantom was giving people neck injuries. the revenge is great. only take the young kids there. love cedar point.

Yeah, it's your opinion. I just think Thunderbolt was underwhelming. Maybe if it also had buzz bars
It really doesn't have much of any restraints though. One of the things I like about it lol
The restraints were the worst at Kennywood though to me
I love kennywood I live near it
I love it too!
Double out and back
Double out and back
Double out and back
BUt i passed out on the phantoms revenge
Whatever you do do not ride the steel phantom my little brother almost flew out of it because the people did not check his seatbelt and it wasn't working properly
Loosened my seatbelt all the way on the jack rabbit and my ass was over the back of the seat
Thunderbolt is definitely better than sky rocket lol I would switch those actually
When steel phantom opened it wasn’t considered a hyper coaster.
I don't like the title of this video because there really aren't any bad - "worst" - coasters at Kennywood.
I love how these coaster ethuistiet that are not from Pittsburgh and think steel curtain is a bad name
i cant say any of the wooden coasters they have are any good but their steel coasters are fine
I love Thunderbolt. I think their three major steel coasters are great, especially Phantoms Revenge which I consider an elite coaster.
Steel curtain hasn't got the most inversions in the world smiler at Alton towers in England has 14 inversions.
Steel Curtain has the most in North America.

steel curtian doesnt look that bad tbh i was scared when i saw it but i didnt get to ride it but it doesnt look that fast or bad.
Jack Rabbit is just a out-and-back. It's not a double out-and-back
Jack Rabbit is almost the perfect example of a double out and back. It goes around the footprint twice in a simple out and back pattern.
