    I have been crocheting for several years. Knitting has always intimidated me. This video is fantastic!!! If Santa brings me the circular set I asked for, I will be back to learn. Crochet has helped so much with the stresses in 2020. Knitted fabric is prettier than crochet, I think. Thank you!!

    I just knit my first few rows. I am an avid crocheter but mostly that is because I'm left-handed and when it came to knitting those that wanted to teach me simply ended up getting frustrated and giving up. Crocheting was easy to self-teach and I mastered it myself and now have many beautiful projects. I wanted to learn knitting though, and so after many years I bought myself a pair of needles, grabbed a ball from my stash, and went to google. I found Hannah. For the first time I cast on with and it made sense. I've made three rows and I just have to say how happy I am! Than you!

    I’ve watched several ‘beginner’ videos and just couldn’t get the hang of it, then I found your one and I can actually make some stitches - Thank You! I keep having a problem with all my stitches falling off the end of the needle though, they’re so slippery. So I’ve stopped after several attempts as it’s frustrating getting so far and then loosing all my work off the needle, I’m going to order wooden needles to see if they are better than the metal ones i’m trying to use! Thanks again, I hope to make a scarf - I’ve crocheted a few, but knitting looks a lot quicker, once its mastered.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  4 года назад +3

      I'm so glad this was helpful and got you started, ryiah. This video will help you put the stitches back on the needles if they fall off again: ruclips.net/video/OiS2psPky94/видео.html
      The other issue might be that you're knitting a bit loosely, I can help with that here: ruclips.net/video/KdTChjHjkwo/видео.html
      But certainly it's a good instinct to find some wood or bamboo needles instead of metal. You'll have more friction on wood or bamboo so it'll be an easier start for you.
      You'll get there - keep at it! happy knitting! 😍

      Hi Gabi, for some the one step at a time is much better than a full tutorial. This one gets the first stitch on the needle: ruclips.net/video/lSsySCUqVtE/видео.html
      It includes 3 methods, so you can have a play and see which one works best.
      Then have a go with the casting on the rest of the stitches. Have a look at the most recent time I did this - the camera angle is slightly different. I start casting on at 4 mins: ruclips.net/video/BQYE9mUHzb4/видео.html
      You'll not want to carry on with the whole tutorial in that, but it's a good, clear casting on for you to see close up.

    Okay Hannah, I adore and am using your favorite casting on method! It really makes for a beautiful bottom. I’m not a beginner knitter but I needed to refresh. I can’t figure out how to cast off so it looks like the bottom when finished. Any tips or videos to watch would be appreciated.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  5 месяцев назад +1

      Cast offs that look identical to cast ons are pretty much impossible to find as the yarn and stitches are at different stages of the knit. The top of the stitch is a loop and the base of the stitch is two strands coming together. The best I've found is then one I share in this video which looks more similar because the casting on that I tend to use is bulkier from going behind the stitch: ruclips.net/video/3pKVKM7V5W8/видео.html
      And I have another video with multiple cast off methods, here: ruclips.net/video/syzH-8UDfHc/видео.html

    God you make it look so easy. I find it *extremely* difficult and frustrating to recreate what you're doing, but I'm getting there slowly. Each day I'm a tiny bit better. I can do the cast on now. It all falls apart (literally when I try to knit the first row after the cast on. Everything is too tight and I can't get enough space between the two needles. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a little further 😊

      Yes. One stitch at a time, one day at a time and you’ll see improvement. Do take a look at the too tight and too loose videos in the beginners help playlist. They’ll help you see which parts of the stitches can get you on track even more.

    • @KnitWithHannah

      Hi Libby, the stitch is the loop of yarn that you've just wrapped around the needle. Pull that loop of yarn back with the needle, the way the needle came, so the new loop of yarn is sitting on the left hand needle as a new stitch. Hope that helps!

    I have had many people try to teach me to crochet since I was a little girl. My mom, both grand mothers, an aunt, 2 friends, and a friend's mother. I just can't seem to get it. My hands cramp and I'm constantly fighting the yarn because it twists in on itself. My question is this, does the yard twist on itself with knitting? I think I would really like to learn, but hubby has gotten frustrated with my buying and getting rid of crochet supplies over and over throughout the years.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 года назад +1

      I've not come across this but it may be the way you've been taught to hold the yarn. I'd try with a single ball and single pair of needles and see how you go. As I share in this video the Drops Nepal and a pair of 5mm needles will cost you less than £10 (possibly nearer £5) which will give you an answer. Happy knitting! 🧶

    Ive been crocheting for 10 years and recently decided to try knitting so I can be more well rounded and this tutorial is great. My only question is do you have to switch needle to your left hand or that only a beginner method?

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  Год назад

      At the beginning of each row, the empty needle is in the right hand. Switching the needles around means you're not learning to knit in two directions. I know there are likely a very few people who can do that, it's really not a thing, like you're pretty much always working in one direction when crocheting. Happy knitting 🧶

    So I'm really liking this way of casting on, but I think I've been knitting the cast on, opposed to what I think you're doing (I can't see around the back of the needles to see exactly where your needle is going through). I've just cast on by putting the needle between the two most recent stitches and it looks better. Is that the right way? I feel my other practice pieces worked well by knitting the cast on, but were a tad loose. I hope that makes sense xx

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  3 года назад

      yes the knitted cast on can be quite loose, putting the needle between the two previous stitches, as I do here, gives a different look and I find it is a stronger foundation with still a bit of give. Happy knitting!

    Hello knitters! I am working on a simple knit three, pearl three pattern for a prayer shawl for our church. I was knitting along, and at the end of a row I had 4 pearl stitches. (Cast on was 60 stitches). I counted over and over, and there are 60 stitches, so I didn't add one or lose one. About halfway through the previous row, I had knitted two, then pearled three, etc That is how I wound up with 4 at the end. What is the best way to fix this mistake? I have approximately 20-24 stitches to "fix". When crocheting, I would simply pull out the row and start over. It is a bit more difficult with knitting.
