This was some of your most enjoyable content to date because it was so honest and raw, not to say your content isn't genuine but there's a freedom in staring something in the face and coming to terms with how distorted it is in contrast to things we said and believed in the past. It was also very entertaining ! I always felt nostalgia and sentimentality got in the way of Smogon convos in regards to these OU gen topics. I don't think it's a coincidence that Gen 4 and Gen 3 were always held in high regard amongst players compared to things like Gen 8. It goes beyond what we perceive as being a good or bad format. And that's fine, it's a good thing to be connected to something you enjoy so much, something that brings so many good memories. But the consequence of this is that some formats were painted in better light than others, irrespective of how the formats are actually like. And the chunk of the playerbase let that warp their view on a lot of things. People talk about Gen 4 without playing it, people talk about Gen 6 without playing it, they form their thoughts based on the videos that they watched and the little they played. If the community were more willing to take a dive in these formats the same way you said you plan on doing, I feel like the perception on a lot of these OU formats would change drastically. Something like Gen 8 for example was bombarded while it was current, and that sentiment still lingers today. I always felt it was a reasonable, enjoyable, skillful format. A lot of the concepts that Gen introduced as far as how the game is played and how teams are built were controversial at the time (people wanted Boots banned for example), but now they are just concepts of singles, players just had to learn a new way to tackle the game. Most of those ideas are still present in Gen 9 and will continue to be present in future generations and nobody even thinks about it anymore. This newfound understanding of how Singles is played would lead a lot of people to view that format differently if they tried it again today. But also some players just don't care about any of this. Some players like fun. I like fun too, who doesn't, but to them "fun" is being uninteractive. They want Pokémon to be Solitaire. They like playing the game with no agency. It's more comfortable to have something to blame than it is to blame yourself when you lose, and they like winning without any effort. You probably saw a lot of comments that were byproducts of this way of thinking while making Gen 4 content. Bar the inherent RNG of the game, some of these OU formats won't bail you out of your mistakes. A lot of the time you gotta play around your opponent's team and what they are doing, and many get exposed when the game demands this from them. This too has negatively affected the perception on some of these formats, mainly the more recent ones since many players aren't as nostalgia-bound to them. It's a shame ! Things would be a lot different if everybody was more open-minded and honest, like you have been in this Gen 4 adventure. Hope you stick to your word, I would love to watch you tackle other OU formats with more intent.
after reading the forums heres a summary of why things are like this: it isnt the gen 4 councils fault apparently. they say that irrespective of their own feelings on jirachi, that they believe a suspect test for iron head/body slam on jirachi is warranted, but is "too complex", which, from the matches we've seen, i think theres an argument for implementing a complex ban here, but whoever it is higher than the council, those powers that be on the policy review forums, disagree. they also say that theres not enough support from high level gen 4 gamers for the simple option of a full jirachi ban, based on things like latias, clefable and machamp being too powerful without jirachi keeping them in check, and that it has good role compression outside of its problematic moves, or that itd shake things up in an older less-played gen too much. solutions to this are weird. seemingly the complex ban is out of the question (and discussing one in most popular gen 4 forum threads isnt allowed, since its "unproductive discussion", cool self-fulfilling prophecy there), so people need to advocate for a simple rachi ban- but as we've seen here gaining requirements to vote is very hard with the amount of hax jirachi enables. further, those with tournament results who earn reqs automatically will have an inherent amount of bias to vote for jirachi to stay in OU. the other solution is to not play gen 4 OU. maybe play some gen 4 UU or NU where rachi cant hurt you. maybe play some gen 4 ubers where you can obliterate rachi with fighting type farceus and groudon and ho-oh, or inflict your own cheesy statuses with darkrai. this accomplishes two things: one, you no longer have dpp jirachi in your life, which is enough of a plus on its own. but two is that a downturn in player numbers following Jimothys Jirachi Exposed Series Special could spark the powers that be in the policy review forums to act. tl;dr either fight to ban jirachi outright, or throw gen 4 OU to the birds

Gen 4 OU has the most nostalgia-brained people of any of the metas I know. They effectively banned weather in Gen 5 OU for being overcentralizing, when weather was THE defining thing of gen 5. But bullshit Pokemon and strategies that overcentralize the meta with RNG nonsense in gen 4 have to stay because that's just how the meta is and we must preserve it!! As if people have warm fuzzy feelings over being paraflinched or losing the battle instantly because they lost the 50/50 guess on Gyarados' set. I honestly like that each Pokemon has 100 options with the physical / special split, I just don't think it's good for so many of the options to require a niche counter or be able to fuck your counters over with RNG. Machamp ban would be a good start but so many things have to go.

He is done with Gen 4 OU and it won't get a fond farewell.
I’m gonna be honest, it’s pretty funny watching you completely tilt, but only because you’re normally so chill. Hopefully you mesh with some of the other formats so you can leave this format behind and return to your chill ways
Yeah it's pretty insane the amount people have dogged on things like sleep in the generations since, and talk up the greatness of gen 4, when Jirachi Paraflinch is honestly one the least competitive least fun things the game has seen.
It's ok, JIm. This series has seemingly made you increasingly irritated, and I'd prefer to not see you stress yourself out like this. Happy to just see you play for fun. Always have been.
The difference between Gen 3 and 4 is that Gen 3 has been polished to a mirror shine, its the best its ever been. Gen 4 in contrast has rusted away but everyone has gotten used to smaking it until it works, ignorant of what they could have if they put in the work and fix it.
From the Vampires and Ghouls rant to the ‘Jirachi Store called’ thumbnail.. this has been your most prolific run yet. All while maintaining near daily uploads on main channel 🐐🐐
DPP is the worst OU for sure. DPP mains will be at your throat for your words, but you're entirely right. There's a reason why ADV eclipses all the other early gens in player numbers. It's simply bc the other tiers suck in comparison
gen 1 is too weird for most people, it's pretty good tho gen 2 is for sure way too slow paced for most people, when hyper offense mirrors takes 60 turns to win
Jimothy is furious, beaten and bloodied, as he stumbles out of the hell that is the Gen 4 OU suspect ladder, and lets out a sigh of relief as he loads up a nice, calm relaxing match of ADV. He smiles as he feels the sand blowing through his hair. He closes his eyes, relishing in the feeling of pure joy as he gets up a layer. It is but a fleeting moment of joy in this world, as transient and ephemeral as a snowflake melting from the flames of an Aerodactyl.
FWIW Jimothy I think you'd actually really enjoy gen 8. It's similar to gen 3 in that it's got a very balanced metagame in which basically every team style is viable. Without gimmicks like mega, Z-moves, or cheese moves like Hidden Power and Pursuit, no offensive threat is without checks and balances and you have to rely on skillful positioning to dent holes in the opponent's team. The tier also allows for a ton of creativity in terms of viable lower tier mons, making the building process interactive and fun. Some games do turn into a pivoting quagmire but otherwise the tier's amazing IMO.
pursuits a LITTLE cheesy you gotta admit. i say this as obscure cheese strat enjoyer, i felt my soul become heavy when i heard acupressure got banned in BW, but pursuit is not Obscure cheese. its trapping with extra steps
i respect your decision jimothy. i was very confused when you rated this gen so highly in your ranking video some time ago. best of luck recovering from this blight
Jimothy slowly realizing competitive pokemon is just gambling on RNG outcomes with extra steps, and that Gen 3 just minimizes that more than all the other formats.
factoring in rng is good play but that's about hedging bets and making good calcs for the path to victory that doesn't work in a format with a coin flip every second turn, you can't hedge on a 50/50
Folks this is insane, I think we've officially broken our Dear friend Jimothy. Like this comment and subscribe to the channel or else Jimothy won't ever recover from this, thank you...
No fault to him, but Pokeaim had everyone hyped about DPP for years. But I agree, DPP sucks now and always sucked. Going from Adv to DDP at the time was awful.
Was thrilled to see gen4 OU, I'm sorry it came at such a cost. May machamp and jirachi pay for their schemes, Iron Mugulis must surely be behind this attack on Jim's psyche
in other gens we have banned mons for one garbage annoying set, jirachi can go. "ohh it helps centre the metagame" who cares, figure out the new meta, if it still sucks ban something else
I would encourage everyone to check out the smogon machamp suspect thread, wherein the pro-ban side is currently throwing a temper tantrum because veteran players are making arguments against the ban and demanding a jirachi suspect
I really would enjoy more series like this where you try the OU formats of all gens (but only when a suspect is happening, so you can check the more competitive level of the format)

after reading the forums heres a summary of why things are like this:
it isnt the gen 4 councils fault apparently.
they say that irrespective of their own feelings on jirachi, that they believe a suspect test for iron head/body slam on jirachi is warranted, but is "too complex", which, from the matches we've seen, i think theres an argument for implementing a complex ban here, but whoever it is higher than the council, those powers that be on the policy review forums, disagree.
they also say that theres not enough support from high level gen 4 gamers for the simple option of a full jirachi ban, based on things like latias, clefable and machamp being too powerful without jirachi keeping them in check, and that it has good role compression outside of its problematic moves, or that itd shake things up in an older less-played gen too much.
solutions to this are weird. seemingly the complex ban is out of the question (and discussing one in most popular gen 4 forum threads isnt allowed, since its "unproductive discussion", cool self-fulfilling prophecy there), so people need to advocate for a simple rachi ban- but as we've seen here gaining requirements to vote is very hard with the amount of hax jirachi enables. further, those with tournament results who earn reqs automatically will have an inherent amount of bias to vote for jirachi to stay in OU.
the other solution is to not play gen 4 OU. maybe play some gen 4 UU or NU where rachi cant hurt you. maybe play some gen 4 ubers where you can obliterate rachi with fighting type farceus and groudon and ho-oh, or inflict your own cheesy statuses with darkrai. this accomplishes two things: one, you no longer have dpp jirachi in your life, which is enough of a plus on its own. but two is that a downturn in player numbers following Jimothys Jirachi Exposed Series Special could spark the powers that be in the policy review forums to act.

It's a shame to hear how far Gen 4 OU has fallen after once being ranked the second best Pokemon Competitive Format. Tragic.
I think gen 4 used to be fun, but by the time you get back to this optimized meta game it became the opposite of what it used to be.
Horse Council flinched and couldn't move!
This makes me wish Rapidash had Steadfast
You really can't get a sound opinion on something until you experience it yourself. Vibes really only get so far.
It’s Truthnuke Tuesday
I’m gonna be honest, it’s pretty funny watching you completely tilt, but only because you’re normally so chill. Hopefully you mesh with some of the other formats so you can leave this format behind and return to your chill ways
Yeah it's pretty insane the amount people have dogged on things like sleep in the generations since, and talk up the greatness of gen 4, when Jirachi Paraflinch is honestly one the least competitive least fun things the game has seen.
this is it folks. we have shed our humanity for gen 4 ou. big play here folks; this is huge
jim quitting getting the suspect requirements is extremely relatable
85 gxe was just way too much
We are no longer gaming, folks!
Back to chess for a while
We won't live to see a gen 4 Muk monday folks, this a true disaster.
im crying he actually crashed out
It's ok, JIm.
It's simply bc the other tiers suck in comparison
gen 2 is so much fun but thats because i overcooked myself on gen 3 and now i cant win
I agree that DPP is in a terrible state right now, but I think ADV is more popular mostly because of Jim himself lol.
gen 1 is too weird for most people, it's pretty good tho
gen 2 is for sure way too slow paced for most people, when hyper offense mirrors takes 60 turns to win
@@tecul1 maybe in high levels of play but on ladder i consistently get 40-50 turn games which is only slightly longer than ADV
ldiots that try and use player count as an argument lose me very quickly. Make an actual argument, and we can talk about it slug.
Never despair Jimothy, Muk Monday will always be around the corner. Remember, good times will always return
This monologue is like the feverish ramblings of a man after gazing upon Lovecraftian horror.
1 month ago: "I think gen 4 is the second best format; surely this won't come back to haunt me"
now: 💀
FWIW Jimothy I think you'd actually really enjoy gen 8.
"No cheese moves like pursuit" - This propaganda was posted by the Dragapult gang
pursuits a LITTLE cheesy you gotta admit. i say this as obscure cheese strat enjoyer, i felt my soul become heavy when i heard acupressure got banned in BW, but pursuit is not Obscure cheese. its trapping with extra steps
"one can lose the forest for the trees". Even if machamp is banned one less rotten tree will not save gen 4 ou
i respect your decision jimothy. i was very confused when you rated this gen so highly in your ranking video some time ago. best of luck recovering from this blight
The prophet. When the world needed him most, earls 5000th alt provided the sacred text.
Jimothy slowly realizing competitive pokemon is just gambling on RNG outcomes with extra steps, and that Gen 3 just minimizes that more than all the other formats.
Spoken like a true gen 1 player
That's not true at all lmao. Gen 4 is the outlier, but in basically every other meta betting on hax is *not* a consistent strategy
factoring in rng is good play but that's about hedging bets and making good calcs for the path to victory
that doesn't work in a format with a coin flip every second turn, you can't hedge on a 50/50
plus being flinchlocked is just not fun gameplay period, even if the skilled player always won it sucks
Folks this is insane, I think we've officially broken our Dear friend Jimothy. Like this comment and subscribe to the channel or else Jimothy won't ever recover from this, thank you...
Jim have you considered using your hidden ability frisk to figure out your opponent’s items?
Sometimes letting go is the real triumph, Mr.Cool
No fault to him, but Pokeaim had everyone hyped about DPP for years.
But I agree, DPP sucks now and always sucked. Going from Adv to DDP at the time was awful.
think it was solely bc it's how his channel blew up
Jimothy is going to the birds.
Jimothy birds.
I used to remember gen4 fondly but after your ladder sessions it looks like suffering
A follow-up video to the OU tier list, after trying each format again, would be the best video of all time.
Looking forward to deep dives into other metagames! While frustrating, this was a very compelling Jimothy arc
Was thrilled to see gen4 OU, I'm sorry it came at such a cost. May machamp and jirachi pay for their schemes, Iron Mugulis must surely be behind this attack on Jim's psyche
A simple ban the ability serene grace and the move dynamic punch would make this meta rather fun I think.
that would mean jirachi would be banned, you sure thats ok?
in other gens we have banned mons for one garbage annoying set, jirachi can go. "ohh it helps centre the metagame" who cares, figure out the new meta, if it still sucks ban something else
@@splitsee2526 that would be beautiful. I've played smaller tournaments without it and it's bliss.
I would encourage everyone to check out the smogon machamp suspect thread, wherein the pro-ban side is currently throwing a temper tantrum because veteran players are making arguments against the ban and demanding a jirachi suspect
I would simply switch clefable into the para 20 times and forfeit if I end up in a clef mirror
I really would enjoy more series like this where you try the OU formats of all gens (but only when a suspect is happening, so you can check the more competitive level of the format)
The Jimothy OU Tour has begun, he will introduce muk to every region and town alike.
This is truly a Lavos moment of all time
0:15 You have my full support for this decision. I know you will be outstanding in them.
We need more suspect tests in old gens to get more Jimothy cool old gen retrospectives. This is fantastic content.
You either die playing gen3 OU. Or live long enough to play gen4 OU. And then you'll wish you were dead
Merry Christmas Jim. I know it’s been a tough one but we appreciate the content.
This format breaks people
The torment of hell was unbearable. But I still respect your perseverance Mr. J. Cool! :)
