Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age Defeating Lv 99 Red Chocobo (FFXII) Ribbon best Accessory

- This method shows you the simplest and easiest way to kill the very elusive, very difficult, Lv. 99 Red Chocobo. I did a video on how to spawn him. He can be spawned in the Haulo Green area of the Osmone Plain once you get Reddas in your party after Giruvegan. After Reddas joins your party you can attempt to spawn this bad boy.
This method you need a Main Gauche, bought in Jahara, and the Zodiac Escutcheon so that you can get a character with 100 evasion. Then, you put berserk on the chocobo and cast decoy (lure) on the character with 100 evade. That way the chocobo no longer casts that nasty choco comet and you only attacks with physical attacks at a guy that can't be hit!
This beasty drops the Ribbon, which is the best accessory in the game since status ailments are so nasty in this game.

Thanks for the method! I just spawned and beat the lvl 99 chocobo with party level ~53. The 100 dodge method works! Main gauche + ensanguined shield for me.
How did you get 100 evade? I currently have 80 evade on Vaan (who is a Shikari/Bushi) with the Main Gauche and Genji Shield equipped. Yes, he has all the Shield Block licenses from the Shikari class.

Ahh... I wanted to finish this game in 100%. By completing this Side enemy. But, I feel like I wasted my time because I never managed to find it.
After 1 Hour it spawned. Got the Ribbon and the Nethril.

I find decoy weird in this game. Bosses still turn around and attack random people sometimes
Some bosses are immune to lure, others have counter attack
Whitemage Serenia if im controlling a whm and the tank is decoyed and they are only attacking me its annoying. I tend to find the bosses just go for the party leader
Well, see that's the thing, FFXII uses a hidden enmity scaling, very similar to something like FFXI, or FFXIV where each action your character takes generates a certain amount of enmity or threat. Decoy forces the boss to attack the lured target, however, it does not change the threat levels, meaning once decoy wears off (or if the boss ignores the Lure status altogether) it'll automatically attack the person with the highest threat. I can't give you the exact details of how it all works, but I'm fairly positive about the enmity thing. Naturally healing would generate a looooot of heat though. It would also make sense for it to go for the party leader too, as typically that's the first person to engage since its the character that you're controlling and the other characters follow you. One thing you could try is control the tank, engage, then switch to the WHM, so that the tank has the initial threat.
Whitemage Serenia are you sure 12 has emnity like an mmo? Or not that it just auto attacks the party leader? Because if i switch its always coming after me...and the camera isnt the best in this game either
I'm fairly positive that it has an enmity system, because I've had monsters and bosses attack non-party leader, non-lured targets before. It's usually attacking the person dealing the most damage, or the healer. and yeah, I wish I could zoom the camera out just a touch >

Must reddas be in your party in order to spawn it? What about after reddas died after the events of ridorana, can the red bird still be spawned?
Party doesn't need Reddas. However, its presence makes the battle easier because the damage output increases. Just defeat Chocobo in Ozmone Plain with Stone/petrify until Chocobo lv 99 Spawn. 😂👍
Doesn’t make me sad anymore that I ran past the red chocobo not knowing he drops ribbon! I’m no where near the level to defeat it lol
Not the red chocobo, but the lvl 99 red chocobo. They are two different mobs
Can you spawn him after reddas leaves the party? Or is it only when he’s active in your party
It will still spawn after reddas leaves. Reddas joining the party is the requirement for it to start spawing. Which means it'll never spawn until Reddas joins your team. After that it can spawn anytime

I don"t get it, it's like the 5th time I'm killing the red chocobo, Reddas is still in my party but it doesn't drop the Ribbon, how come?!?
FFS, I also got lucky to enter the area (Field of Light Winds) with 2 red ones but still couldn't get one ribbon, lmao

The method of getting the ribbon from floor 49 in trials is easier
Only noobs take items from Trial Mode.
Why spend the extra time grinding? This game is easy anyway, just annoying to get what you need for super bosses.

Anyone know why berserk isn't working? I had 3 party members spamming it and the chocobo keeps casting comet.
Use the Bacchus Wine instead if the spell. More effective.
