    Hi Eric
You're completely right. What you see and hear is the HELLSCORE CHOIR from Israel. Arjen had them for his last two productions REVEL IN TIME (Star One) & TRANSITUS (Ayreon).
The choir is led by NOA GRUMAN - the fantastic lead singer of SCARDUST (progmetal, Israel).
One of the best vocalists in the world of rock/metal imho.
The bassplayer is multi-insrumentalist ORR DIDI - mastermind, composer and (with Noa) founder of SCARDUST.
PATTY, our german hurdy gurdy girl, had several guest appearances with bands like Alestorm, Ayreon, Fiddler's Green, Saltatio Mortis or Scardust.
    It's all a big family
    😉

Cheers from Finland! I totally agree with all that you said, but Noa's last name is GRUMAN, not GRUMANN.

Great reaction! Love the song. Hellscore is actually a metal a cappella choir! It's not a classical choir that can get into metal when asked, they ARE metal :) That's why so many metal bands have used Hellscore in their albums, including Amorphis, Alestorm, Orphaned Land, and more (and of course, Arjen Lucassen like you said).
    Thanks, really enjoyed this one!

The hurdy gurdy is not forgotten in the medieval rock / metal scene over here in Germany :-)

Greetings from Finland & thanks for this reaction. I'm glad that you liked the band, the song & especially the extremely versatile female vocalist Noa Gruman, who:
    1. is also a classically trained pianist & cellist, although she doesn't play those instruments with this band
    2. is the co-composer of their music & also conducts the internationally touring Hellscore choir you both saw & heard in this music video. Bands like Ayreon, Star One, Therion & Amorphis have featured them on their albums and/or live performances
    3. designs & makes her own stage outfits (she has studied fashion design for a year)
    4. has served in Israel's military for at least two years
    5. and on top of all that, Noa also worked on her vocals online with Floor Jansen for two years
The other musicians are also classically trained & the bassist Orr Didi, is the main composer of the band's music. They started in 2013 as "Somnia" and took the name "Scardust" in 2015. So far they have released one EP (2015) and two studio albums: "Sands of Time" (2017) & "Strangers" (2020). They don't have many live or music videos on RUclips yet, but let me know if you want me to suggest more songs from them either live performances or music videos.
P.S. For me, Noa Gruman is one of the best female vocalists in metal today. Not only is she extremely versatile, but she also has a vocal range of 4,5 octaves (more than one octave wider than that of Floor Jansen, Simone Simons & Tarja Turunen), not to mention her growls.

Orr actually went to my high school (kinda? He was part of our grade's music program but wasn't actually in our other classes) and I have a recording of his 12th grade recital - Huzzah for being the class A/V nerd and data hoarder.
I discovered Scardust after coming across those recordings and looking him up to see what he was up too. It was an awesome surprise.
Then, last year my cousin gets married and both Hellscore and Noa were there at the wedding (this was an Orthodox Jewish wedding mind you, not usually where you'd find a large group of metalheads). Turns out my cousin married one of the singers from Hellscore! LMAO he's the only one there wearing a yarmulke, so he's easy to pick out.

Glad you checked this one out!
That was indeed the Hellscore Choir.
Been following Scardust and Patty a while, and this video was a very long time coming.
There's a "behind the scenes" video showing what they went through to get this out.

Orr is a truly gifted musician (he also writes most of the Scardust music with Noa) and was like that in high school too. What might blow you away even more is to learn that he has a pretty serious visual impairment, not legally blind I don't think, but definitely not someone who could easily read sheet music if needed. So to imagine learning and memorizing EVERYTHING to a level that you can play multiple instruments at a professional level and on stage, and you learn to appreciate how much raw talent he has.

For some more medieval instruments in rock check out "Saltatio mortis", "In Extremo" or "Feuerschwanz"

Great reaction, I'm happy to see Scardust on this channel. In my (little biased) opinion, the amount of talent in this band is second only to Nightwish in the symphonic/power/prog metal domain, they are just incredible. The choir in the video is indeed Hellscore, which was formed and conducted by Scardust's vocalist Noa Gruman, and is naturally featured in most of Scardust's songs.

Fantastic performance for my introduction. Surprising instrumentation, like Steve N' Seagulls' version of "Thunderstruck". I will have to see what their other songs are like. Nice to see you again, it's been a while. Just so you know, June 15th is Aurora's Birthday.

They do really nice Nightwish covers too. Noa is a hell of a singer and if I'm not totally mistaken, Floor has something to do with that 🤘🇫🇮

I have Scardust's debut album. Great voice, great musicianship, but maybe a bit too oddball for me in the songwriting department. I do like prog, but maybe prog that isn't so oddball, if you get my meaning.
I do like this song, first time hearing it, thanks Eric :)

I think this is not their best though. It's a totally enjoyable track, mainly to demonstrate their talents if you ask me (and damn are they talented). I've basically binge-listened to them after this song came up on RUclips in the last days, and I think there's many better arrows in their bow (like "Arrowhead", "Tantibus" I & II and so on). Really a band to keep an ear on, very much self-made up to now - but in a very professional way nonetheless. If you like hurdy-gurdy you could also check Cellar Darling, another folk metal band with a hell of a front-woman.
