  • First of all, who is Patty Gurdy?? Tonight i listened to Israeli Prog Metal band Scardust and their song 'Concrete Cages'. This was interesting to say the least. Are they being tongue in cheek deliberately, or am i just reading them wrong?

I only watched this music video for the 1st time less than 24 hours ago and now your video popped up into my recommended playlist, I guess the algorithm is working 😂.
It's a Hurdy Gurdy, you can play one in the Sea of Thieves video game. Great reaction as always. Loved everything about this video, the bass player stole the show🤟😂

Noa was the one who did the scat. Patty Gurdy had the instrument you didn't recognize, which is called a hurdy gurdy. You'll need to listen to about 4 or 5 songs from this band to get an idea of what they are about and what they can do

The hurdy-gurdy is a stringed instrument similar to a violin. Instead of a bow, it is played with a wheel and you need the crank for that. The melody is picked up with a key mechanism. Similar to a bagpipe, this late French design has bass strings and additional rhythm strings. The first hurdy-gurdy appeared during the Arab conquests in Spain in the Middle Ages and then spread throughout Europe in different variants. Patty can explain it in more detail:
How EXACTLY does the hurdy gurdy work?
A Prog Metal band with a permanent hurdy-gurdy is
CELLAR DARLING - Avalanche (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
    Symphomic Metal with hurdy-gurdy:
LYRRE - North Star (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
Folk Metal and the band from which both players left:
ELUVEITIE - Aidus (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
Patty aka Patricia Büchler is often mistaken for Irish, but is German. Mostly she does Celtic pop but has been featured by folk/pirate metal band Storm Seeker:

What a great surprise from you to make a reaction video to my new favorite (symphonic) progressive metal band from Israel with stellar musicians and a vocal beast Noa Gruman, who:
    1. makes her own stage outfits
    2. writes the lyrics & co-composes the songs with her friend Orr Didi, who just recently replaced the original bassist of the band
    3. has served her two year military service with the Israeli armed forces
    4. conducts the Hellscore choir that has performed with bands like e.g. Therion, Ayreon & Amorphis
    5. is a classically trained pianist & cellist, although she doesn't play these instruments with Scardust
    6. has also been working with the Israeli opera as 1st soprano
    7. worked on her extreme vocals with Floor Jansen (Nightwish) for two years online and has over an octave wider range (i.e. 4,5 octaves) than Floor & others like Simone Simons (Epica), Tarja Turunen (ex Nightwish) and the late Whitney Houston.
P.S. Noa also co-produced and edited this music video.

Patty Gurdy has her own youtube channel where she talks about hurdy gurdy stuff and has some covers and original songs. I love her cover of Over The Hills And Far Away.

Welcome to Scardust. This song is just the tip of the iceberg. Check out Arrowhead, Gone, Over, Under (Over & Under are best listened to back to back), The Sands of Time suite, and then, just for fun, The Evolution of the Disney Princess But It's Metal.
For Patty Gurdy (the hurdy gurdy player), check out Run, One By One (featuring the Hellscore choir you saw on this video), and her cover of Over the Hills and Far Away.

This song was written during the lockdowns early in the pandemic. Both artists would've liked to be out touring, but were stuck in their homes....their own concrete cages.

Orr Didi is the unbelievably talented bassist....he also writes and arranges with Noa ( the female lead singer ) who assembled the choir, called "Hellscore"......

I recently discovered this band, only know this song but they are quite impressive instrumentally and the vocalist Noa Gruman sounds incredibly talented. She is also in a project with the choir where they cover famous bands, the Nightwish medley you might be interested in.
The guest also great in this song with the odd folk instrument, I had only heard that in a metal band with Eluveitie.

Very nice reaction video. Others have explained something about Patty Gurdy, who has her own channel on RUclips with now 370.000 followers. I'd like to add a little bit: Her name is a mix of her nickname Patty (from Patricia) and the last part of the name of her main instrument, the hurdy-gurdy. I don't know why people often think of Irish music with that instrument, because it's absolutely not Irish. Never heard a hurdy-gurdy in Irish music. It's a middle-european instrument from the late middle-ages, nowadays mostly played in France and Hungary. Folk-metal bands like Eluveitie and Cellar Darling (you might call them related, both are from Switzerland and Cellar Darling consists of former members of Eluveitie like Anna Murphy - have a guess, which instrument she uses...) use it as well. Patty has so far also collaborated with several German bands and a Scottish Band, you might know: Alestorm. And she composed and performed (singing and playing her hurdy-gurdy) 2 songs in the Amazon-prime-show "Carnival Row" (first series). Noa Gruman from Scardust and Patty are good friends.
BTW Scardust is announced as one of the support bands for the next tour of Blind Guardian. Hopefully this brings them more of the attention they definitely deserve.

I see some of my Scardust friends made it to the party. You guessed wrong. Patty Gurdy plays the Hurdy Gurdy and has red hair. Noa was the main vocalist. The choir is the Amazing Hellscore. Noa writes and arranges them. Orr Didi (bass) and Noa are the Mad Scientists writing and arranging. Don't know if you love Prog or not, I'd recommend Gone or Arrowhead I love, Sands of Time, Dials, Queen of Insanity I really love. I actually saw the livestream Patty Gurdy Scardust concert and they both did the Harsh vocals and then just Patty. Was a great concert. Huts is great with Hellscore Choir and a UK children's choir, and lastly the most beautiful ballad ever in my opinion Mist. I found Scardust through this video. I catch Patty for celtic style and found them. My soul told me to support them. Liked your reaction. Hope to see one of my suggestions in the future. Peace. Stay safe. God Speed. 🌹❤️🤘

Patty's cover of "Over the Hills and Far Away" and "Running Up That Hill" are also great. As for Scardust, I really like "Arrowhead"
