@@LetItVee - I remember on Albums of The Year on Tom's channel you said you had 44 4 stars. Were there 44 new albums you discovered or did you upgrade some of your old list to 4 stars?
@@drdavid1963 That's a good question and it made me curious because I couldn't remember. But it appears that all these new 4 stars and above were actually new listens which is always a great thing to have happen!
@@LetItVee - Yes, there is so much great music in the 70s. I listened to 200+ albums but there was actually more than 1000 I could have listened to, most of it obscure of unheard of but you can only listen to so much.
A nice list of albums . Here is my list starting with my favourite : Supertramp : Crime of the Century Genesis : The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway ( I saw them on this tour in Toronto in Dec . 1974 , and the songs are even better live ) Joni Mitchell : Court & Spark Steely Dan : Pretzel Logic Elton John : Caribou Doobie Brothers : What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits King Crimson : Red David Bowie : Diamond Dogs Roxy Music : Country Life Stevie Wonder : Fulfillingness' First Finale Robin Trower : Bridge of Sighs Rory Gallagher : Irish Tour '74 John Lennon : Walls & Bridges Tom Waits : The Heart of Saturday Night Robert Palmer : Sneaking Sally Through the Alley Thanks !!!
Pretty damn nice list. I have most of them myself. Always great to come across another person who has an open mind and can find qualities they enjoy from such a wide range of styles/genres. Yeah, The Lamb...is weak on the last 2 sides, imo, but man what a 1st half! Didn't expect Todd. That's a solid album. New Skin, Red, and Diamonds Dogs, too. I have never fully gotten into Big Star. I like them, but only really wanna replay a few songs. I appreciate Jackson Browne, put he's a little too much of the sensitive songwriter guy for me. Most all his songs seem to be within the same window of tempo w/ very little variance in sound or style.
I'm sick of hearing people rank on the second half of "The Lamb", it's just as great or better than the first half....what, do all these people have ADHD or something? They can't concentrate long enough to take in the conclusion of the story where all the action and major epiphany occurs?? Do you just not understand it?? You need to use your mind and figure out how it relates to you. Rael is on a quest and John is being elusive until Rael sees him in need and saves his life and when he looks in his eyes he sees HIMSELF!!! O.K., I ruined it for you, it's not that difficult to figure out, Rael makes a decision as to what's more important....that's what "IT" refers to..."IT'S" the meaning of EVERYTHING!! You cannot dismiss the ultimate message, a revelation you inevitably have when evaluating what ultimately motivates you, and it's not necessarily the same for everyone. Rael feels as if he instantly comprehends the meaning of his own life and as a result John's face becomes his own. "It's only knock and KNOW ALL, but I like it...."
Red is quite a bit higher on my top ten list from 1974. I don’t think Red is really a Prog album. Interesting that Diamond Dogs follows Red. It also followed Red on my top ten list. I agree that Emmylou Harris is a great harmony singer. Surprisingly I don’t care for her solo albums. Her voice sounds very thin to me on her solo albums. In the end I was surprised that King Crimson and Bowie are the only two we have in common. Enjoyed the video.
Good review Vee! My Top Three: 1.Caught Up by Millie Jackson (why do Americans ignore this soul masterpiece?) 2.Late For The Sky 3.On The Beach by Neil Young
Hi! My year of birth… crappy hit parade, awesome albums! I know, no Zep, Floyd or Sabbath, but several other bands/artists released some of their best work. And some of those bands double-dipped, like Queen, Yes (in the US, at least), King Crimson… Speaking of, the album on your shirt is quite possibly the best ever (70’s) album!!
Interesting choices. I looked back on what was listening to. All a bit expected. Elton was ruling the world, slade and Queen. Couple of randoms are carpenters-her voice was incredible and Simon and Garfunkel. Also to show I was expanding my musical choices autobahn by kraftwork
Great stuff, always enjoy your videos. Great shirt BTW. The Power and The Glory - Gentle Giant The Lamb - Genesis Relayer - Yes Preservation Act 2 - The Kinks Secret Treaties - BOC Pretzel Logic - Steely Dan Colours Of Chloe - Eberhard Weber Rock Bottom - Robert Wyatt Get Up With It - Miles Davis Kimono My House - Sparks Taking Tiger Mountain - Eno Rock N Roll Animal - Lou Reed Starless And Bible Black - King Crimson Red - King Crimson Todd - Todd Rundgren
actually, someone added Country Life and Relayer, which I had thought of, too, but wasn't sure of the year....and Desolation Blvd., Sheer Heart Attack and Sheet Music, too!!!! Can you believe it? We were lucky back then, especially THAT YEAR!!!!

I liked them but I didn't love them, I'm still curious to check out some of his other albums though. I've heard a lot of good things about Before and After Science.
Yes, I have and they both fall just outside my top 25 (I slightly prefer Queen II but like both a lot so they are close). They are also among my favourite Queen albums generally. Just a lot to love this year.
Right there with you on several of these as far as them being good stuff from '74- 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15. Never liked Caribou that much (Solar Prestige A Gammon???, Grimsby??). Jeff Lynne again showed his melodick brilliant on Eldorado.
👍 on Caribou. Elton’s hangover album after years of endless touring recorded amidst a drug haze (see cover pics), singing about UFO’s and the solar system. A lot of hidden gems and a fun listen in general.
It's IMPORTANT!!! It's the best thing Gabriel, Genesis and EVERYONE ELSE have ever done!!! Best record ever, and you absolutely need to know the story, and Gabriel's style of writing stories is brilliant!!
Did you read the Peter Gabriel short story in the gate fold of "The Lamb"??...oh wait, you have the CD, fuck that, too small...go on-line and find the story and READ IT!!! Then you'll totally "GET IT", the most beautiful record in recording history and I saw it LIVE!!! Don't get me started on that...
RUclips's comment system is buggy sometimes and I am not sure why. I've had the same thing happen to me when commenting on videos and it's really frustrating. I'm not sure what's happening here as I don't have any extra auto-mods on or anything, so I apologize.

Fantastic list!
Thanks for the video Vee
I dig that King Crimson shirt. I was just listening to In tge Court of the Crimson King today !
A nice list of albums .
Here is my list starting with my favourite :
Supertramp : Crime of the Century
Genesis : The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway ( I saw them on this tour in Toronto in Dec . 1974 , and the songs are even better live )
Joni Mitchell : Court & Spark
Steely Dan : Pretzel Logic
Elton John : Caribou
Doobie Brothers : What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits
King Crimson : Red
David Bowie : Diamond Dogs
Roxy Music : Country Life
Stevie Wonder : Fulfillingness' First Finale
Robin Trower : Bridge of Sighs
Rory Gallagher : Irish Tour '74
John Lennon : Walls & Bridges
Tom Waits : The Heart of Saturday Night
Robert Palmer : Sneaking Sally Through the Alley
Thanks !!!
great get on robert palmer , its on my top 25 list
@@bengalgangster Thanks !
My Top Three:
1.Caught Up by Millie Jackson (why do Americans ignore this soul masterpiece?)
2.Late For The Sky
3.On The Beach by Neil Young
I heard Caught Up and thought it was a really cool album and the concept was really well executed. Awesome choice for #1
Hi!
My year of birth… crappy hit parade, awesome albums!
I know, no Zep, Floyd or Sabbath, but several other bands/artists released some of their best work.
And some of those bands double-dipped, like Queen, Yes (in the US, at least), King Crimson…
Speaking of, the album on your shirt is quite possibly the best ever (70’s) album!!
Interesting choices. I looked back on what was listening to. All a bit expected. Elton was ruling the world, slade and Queen. Couple of randoms are carpenters-her voice was incredible and Simon and Garfunkel. Also to show I was expanding my musical choices autobahn by kraftwork

CHICAGO VII...
What do you think of the Eno albums?
I liked them but I didn't love them, I'm still curious to check out some of his other albums though. I've heard a lot of good things about Before and After Science.
@@LetItVee I will add to that chorus. BaAS is great.
Vanessa subscribe to you superb video. Thanks really enjoyed it.
Two albums in same year…might never happen again
Have you not listened to the queen albums “shear heart attack” and “queen 2”??
Yes, I have and they both fall just outside my top 25 (I slightly prefer Queen II but like both a lot so they are close). They are also among my favourite Queen albums generally. Just a lot to love this year.

Great list, Clay!
I give up....try going to: "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway The Full Inner Gatefold Story And Lyrics"....it's on there, otherwise go buy the vinyl!!!!
Yeah those CD booklets are always too hard to read, I will have to take your advice and find it online!
@@LetItVee Every time I try to send you the short story (and lyrics) it seems to vanish, later...WTF? That's the 3rd time!
What is going on on your channel? It won't let me add anything else -the story + lyrics, etc.?
RUclips's comment system is buggy sometimes and I am not sure why. I've had the same thing happen to me when commenting on videos and it's really frustrating. I'm not sure what's happening here as I don't have any extra auto-mods on or anything, so I apologize.
My top 10 if you are interested.

Awesome! I will check it out!
You weren’t born yet
The good news with that is she's not obliged to be nostalgic about things like *checks year-end top selling albums* Dawn's New Ragtime Follies.
I recommend you always wear sunglasses outside, after looking at your face for several minutes the skin around your eyes needs more protection, consider a skin lotion as well. Maybe a tiny amount of local grown honey.
Is this for real????
You should stop looking at her face and look in a mirror instead. Might be worth it to figure out what possesses you to make unsolicited and unnecessary comments.
@jeffruebens8355 i recommend using penis-enlargement products if you're going to insult someone's appearance for no reason
