Great list Vanessa. Some personal favorites of mine appear, we agree on number one. I was hoping to see For Everyman by Jackson Browne, but he was a no-show. I always enjoyed your collaborations with Tom Williams. So glad to see you with your own channel. Best of luck.

Quadrophenia is a self-indulgent wank by a Band that had drastic highs and lows.
Quadrophenia is bland and offensive to a music lover like me.
The easy thing to do is to roll out the 'usual suspects' or repeat what you've heard other people say.
In 1973 the Best and Greatest Rock Band in history released their major breakthrough album "PILEDRIVER"
It was their 5th album.
This album stands up high on the balcony looking down on all the pedestrian and mediocre albums made by other Bands and Musicians.
If you want to hear Rock music played properly and correctly then you listen to STATUS QUO.
The longest and loudest internal scream still continues today from when I heard the opening track "Don't Waste My Time"
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
The Best and Greatest Rock Band in history took all their LIVE stage equipment into the studio and recorded LIVE without any wanky overdubs.
They are genuine, authentic, sincerely down to Earth and unpretentious, no airs or graces, the antithesis of some of the pompous, arrogant and bloated, egotistical wankers that appear on other people's list of 15 Best albums of 1973.
Long Live STATUS QUO!!!!!!!
If you're a strong independent thinker like me then you'll acknowledge and identify albums that are far superior.
T-REX were massive in 1973.
McCartney and Wings - "Band on the Run" was enormous.
Jim Croce was huge in 1973.
Tom Waits, Tod Rundgren, New York Dolls,
The Stooges "Raw Power"
The Rolling Stones "Goats Head Soup"
David Bowie "Aladdin Sane"
Bachman-Turner Overdrive -"Bachman-Turner Overdrive II"
Elton John - "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player"
Neil Diamond - "Hot August Night"
Deep Purple - "Made in Japan"
Deep Purple - "Machine Head"
Slade - "Slayed?"
Gary Glitter - "Touch Me"
In 1973 The Queen of Rock released her debut album "Can the Can"
It is one of the best Produced albums I've ever heard.
It is one of the best Rock albums of all time.
SUZI QUATRO is from Detroit Rock City, though she and her band were massive outside of the USA.
The USA is not always a good indicator of what is good quality art/music/culture.
Some of the best music I've heard comes from a little backwater called Australia.
It's great to see you back again . (. I missed. your 1984 release , which I will watch shortly )
I watched your 60s lists of songs and albums with your 2 other compatriots .
You're still my hero for picking the Ugly Ducklings' Nothin' as one of your top songs .
That whole album , Somewhere Outside is great .
I believe that you were also wearing a Sam The Record Man T shirt in one of the episodes .
My favourite record store of all time. (. the big one at Yonge & Dundas ). , now sadly gone .

@@LetItVee The do indeed .
I like your channel, you seem to know your stuff musically. Great job on the 200 albums! I didn’t know some of your initial albums, but most of the top 10 I did. (I was 8 in 1973…). Just throw in a contender; “Ringo” by Ringo Starr…
Thank you! I like that Ringo album a lot!
Great review Vanessa! I bought a lot of albums in 1973.
I enjoyed yourtake on 1973. Great job!
Great list of what you'd expect and some surprises, too! I'll check out those surprises.
Thank you - a very interesting list. I totally agree with your Top 3…😊
I enjoyed the list! Alot of different types of music. I gave Gary Higgins and Duncan Browne a listen , since i never heard of either. Pretty cool acoustic stuff. Duncan Browne has a Beatles acoustic feel to it. Glad you appreciate Goodbye yellow brickr road. Great deep cuts on it. Look forward to more vids !

I have always thought that 1973 was probably my favourite year of recorded music, especially in the Rock genre. I'm quite a bit older than you Vee, but I love that you focused on 1973, and thank you for including a coupe of artists I'd never heard of before ( Gary Higgins & Duncan Browne), I'll be searching for their work to enjoy. I also like the fact that your tastes are eclectic, mine are as well. I was introduced to many different genres of music as a child, I had an Auntie who worked for CBS Records, so she gifted many albums to me from a vast variety of genres.
I love your Canadian accent. Take care!
I kinda stopped listening to Dark Side Of The Moon in 73, after way over-listening to it. But by that time it was burned into my soul and I knew it by heart. I did listen to it all the way through recently and thought, yeah, I was right, this was Great!

Just discovered your channel. Enjoyed the video of 1973 ranking.. I subbed your channel.
Thank you!
Solid list, Vanessa! For me, the greatest 1973 album is "Spectrum", Billy Cobham's debut.
Great choice, it was a new discovery for me and I liked it a lot!
I really enjoyed your video. Did you include Golden Earrings Moontan in your marathon listen? My favorite classic rock album of all time. One of my favorite bands too.
I did, very cool album!
This list is fantastic. Some titles I don't know, but am eager to hear now.
Crazy what a great year 1973 was. So many big albums. Then again, I feel you could say that about every year of that decade, haha.
I hated The Crunge as a kid, but love it now.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is my favorite of their albums.
You absolutely could say that about every year of the 70s!
What a year for music!!!
I was 14 years old in 1973. People listened to the radio a lot more back then. If they had a good job they often bought a good stereo system to play vinyl albums, and 8 track tapes for their car. Lots less other things to do then.
Enjoyed your list. I did top ten lists from 1965 to 1985. We have some in common but you had a few I’ve never heard of. Based on your picks I think you would like two that made my list, Terry Reid-The River and Curtis Mayfield-Back To The World.
Your channel is new to me and I subscribed. I’m going to watch your T Rex video.
I did hear the Curtis Mayfield album and I liked it a lot but I never got to Terry Reid, so I will have to check that one out. It's the year that keeps giving. Thanks!
Here’s my list 😎
1. Genesis - Selling England By The Pound 5 stars (10)
2. Stevie Wonder - Innervisions 5 stars (10)

Yes Vanessa I've forgotten many but my excuse is that that period was incredible ! My salutations to fans of Cat Stevens , Dionne Warwick , Donovan , Ray Charles , , Johnny Rivers , Diana Ross and the Supremes , Brenda Lee , Dusty Springfield , Roy Orbison , Lesley Gore , Gene Pitney (a personal favourite) ,Ike & Tina Turner , Harry Nilsson , Dean Martin , Tony Bennett , the great Leonard Cohen , Glen Campbell , John Mayall & the Blues breakers , Simon & Garfunkel , Pink Floyd , The Masters Apprentices ( Aussie favourite) and of course Frank Zappa ! 1. Alladin Sane - Bowie
2. Raw Power -- Iggy & the Stooges
3. Tyranny & Mutation -- Blue Oyster Cult
But I'm a guitar freak.
I would definitely have Jesse Collin Young - song for Juli on the top of my list wondering if you gave it a listen or not because it is a very overlooked album
I had it on my list of albums to check out but I didn't end up getting to it. I've added it to my albums to check out list though, definitely seems up my alley.
@@LetItVee you definitely should, I'm actually curious what you think about it once you do, I don't think there's a bad song on it
200 album deep dive, nice! I'd go so far as say that there are at least that many that are at least very good. Nice deep pick with Gary Higgins. I haven't listened to that in probably 15 years, need to revisit.
Would love to start seeing people have that kind of enthusiasm for post-2000 years, because I've been following some channels that struggle to come up with a top 5 let alone 10 or 20, which is pathetic.
My picks:
1. Iggy & The Stooges - Raw Power
2. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
3. Toots & the Maytals - Funky Kingston
4. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
5. New York Dolls - New York Dolls
6. David Bowie - Aladdin Sane
7. Bob Marley & the Wailers - Catch A Fire
8. Can - Future Days
9. Al Green - Call Me

17. João Gilberto - João Gilberto
18. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
19. Lee Perry & the Upsetters - Blackboard Jungle Dub
20. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd
Much more that might suit yr tastes:
27. Robin Trower - Twice Removed From Yesterday

153. David Ruffin - David Ruffin
204. Roy Harper - Lifemask
I agree about newer years! I think there's plenty of great music every year to come up with a strong top 15, you just have to know where to look to find what you like.
Golden Lady is great, one of my favorite Stevie songs. But my favorite album of 1973 is Selling England by the Pound.
That is one tough collection of albums to beat. I suspect that my Math/Science teacher from 2 years after it was released still has my vinyl copy of the Sabbath album - all that Satanic imagery was too much for his Catholic school brain. It was the last time I ever took a record to school to loan to a buddy but they would have completely flipped at the mere mention of Judas Priest. Thanks for the memories.
My mind immediately went to Seinfeld and the gym teacher who gave George a wedgie and then stole the book he was holding for Jerry. At the end of the episode, the gym teacher is revealed to now be homeless, but still in possession of the book. I picture your former teacher is now on the streets with your copy of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
Or he actually played it and turned into a massive metal head.
@@JWD1992 He would be well into his late eighties by now and I doubt that he spent too much time listening to records. If anyone belonged in a lab 24/7 it was that guy.

15. 3+3 - The Isley Brothers
Great list,but missing my top 2;
1.John Cale-Paris 1919
2.The Who-Quadrophenia
Little Feat-Sailin' Shoes would be in my top 10 as well
Great year, nice review. But the mighty Quadrophenia is the most glaring omission.
Mott a good one, Allmans. Brothers and Sisters, Skynyrd debut, Layla, Houses of the holy, it was one of rocks best years.
Hi Vee. I'll toss my hat in the ring

1973 is peerless for rock, pop and soul music. I've always preferred 'Aladdin Sane' to Ziggy but I think that is mainly because I heard Aladdin in its entirety before I did Ziggy so it became my gateway into Bowie's work.
Future Days by Can. August 1973.
Nice one, V 🎉

2. Blue Oyster Cult - Tyranny and Mutation

IDK, some obscure albumns here. To each their own. I would take out #15, #14, #13, #12, #11 #10, #9, #8, #5 and add Yessongs, Quadraphenia, Selling England By The Pound, Countdown To Ecstasy, Raw Power, For Your Pleasure, Tres Hombres, There Goes Rhymin' Simon, Brain Salad Surgery as substitutes. Btw, I grew up in the 70's but like I say, to each their own.
My favorite album is Selling England by the Pound.
I never liked Bowies version of 'Lets Spend....' but the rest of the album is great.
Maybe you're the reason I think people don't like that cover haha
Mine are 1. Montrose-Montrose. 2. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath-Black Sabbath. 3. Tyranny And Mutation-Blue Oyster Cult. 4. Queen-Queen. 5. Twice Removed From Yesterday-Robin Trower. 6. Dark Side Of The Moon-Pink Floyd. 7. Billion Dollar Babies-Alice Cooper. 8. Houses Of The Holy-Led Zeppelin. 9. Tattoo-Rory Gallagher. 10. Still Alive And Well.
Gary Higgins reminds me of the Incredible String Band's 5,000 Spirits...album
Quadrophenia was best of the year.
Emerson Lake and Palmer Brain Salad Surgery. That was the album😊
Nektar - Remember The Future (1973)
Steeleye Span - Parcel of Rogues
Goodbye yellow brick road, quadraphenia, sabbath bloody sabbath are my top 3!
1973 was an enormous year in music. Dark Side of the Moon released on 3/01/73 and AWATS released on 3/02/73. Wizard sold poorly, too far ahead of it's time I guess.
Check out the self-titled Barbara Keith from 1973
That is actually one I missed, I will have to check it out. Thanks!
@@LetItVee Not one well known but I think a classic! She never released an album after this one. A mixture of singer-songwriter, country and rock. Truly a hidden gem. You can listen to full album on youtube.
Were you alive in 1973?
No, not yet. Born in the 80s
LTIA outside the top 15?😢 Number two on my list.
I know! :( Such a stacked year!
No Tapestry ?
Tapestry came out in 1971 🙂
@LetItVee Yeah I checked just after I had posted. I remember a Carole King album keeping Yellow Brick Road off the number one spot for several weeks. Must have been another one unless my memory is completely haywire. 🥺
One must say that if you are bringing things down to just 15 albums of a certain year, they should all be five star records. It also gets a mite frustrating when people just mention or even highlight the hit songs as,lets face it, the hit singles are just things picked out by the record company, which if left to your own individual choice would likely be a different song. Yellow Brick Road is a case in point as almost any one of the songs on that record could have been 'hit singles'.
Deep cuts is such a ridicule concept. Agreed with the top 1 and 2.
I also used to collect all these silly records however the modern artists create a better music. Это же не подлежит сомнению...
bowie t rex floyd y lynyrd tambien sabbath .
Higgans had 1/2 albums
Tales From Topographic Oceans
For me, 1973 is a bit of a letdown for heavy rock as most bands went 'soft' and aimed for more commercialised sounds. For what it's worth, here are some heavy and prog rock favourites (not ranked) :
1) Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
2) Budgie - Never Turn Your Back On A Friend
3) Icecross - Icecross
4) Blue Oyster Cult - Tyranny And Mutation
5) Granicus - Granicus
6) Pink Fairies - Kings Of Oblivion
7) The Stooges - Raw Power
8) Montrose - Montrose
9) Hawkwind - Space Ritual
10) Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Solar Fire
11) Queen - Queen
12) Rick Wakeman - The Six Wives of Henry VIII
13) Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
14) Socrates Drank The Conium - On The Wings
15 Renaissance - Ashes Are Burning
How do you make a list of the "Top" albums, and miss #5,#6, #8-11, #14-20? Top means "the highest point, level, or part of something", or "the highest position (as in rank or achievement)", or "the highest degree or pitch conceivable or attained". Nowhere in there does it include "favorite" (unless the qualifier "my" is used). I bought all these albums new in 1973. Mott was not in my Top 20, then, or now. There was just too much better stuff available, to settle for a band that had potential, but really never lived up to it.
You missed quite a few better albums:

I will keep your feedback in mind when titling future videos. Some of the albums you've mentioned I like a lot and just missed my favourite 15 albums (Steely Dan slots in at #16, in fact and Eagles not far behind).
@@LetItVee You have albums that are personal favorites, but that did not catch on with the public. I have albums in my Top 200 that are intensely personal, and not that popular, although I pimp them whenever the subject of "Artists who almost made it" comes up, or similar themes. Mott was not that great an album, although it does have a lot of the best Mott the Hoople laid down, in wax.
It's very different, for your generation. You can jump into the best of an artist, and skip the stuff that came before, or after. Some artists took a while to figure out the studio, instrumentation, lyrics, and public image, getting better, but not hitting it out of the park, until the 3rd, 4th, even 5th LP. Some released one great album, in the middle, somewhere, of up to a dozen releases. The songs that don't wear out give album legs, still tickling the ear after thousands of times.
