Today, I am answering the most searched questions about being an amputee. It's definitely something a lot of people are curious about so I thought who better to educate people and answer their questions than an actual amputee. I see so many able bodied people attempt to answer these questions (usually wrong as they don't have first hand experience) so it's my turn to give it a go. Let me know if you have any more questions in the comments!!!
Obviously I am not a doctor so these answers may not be 100% medically correct and also every amputee is different to some answers that I say about me may not exactly relate to everybody else

I've been an amputee for about 4 1/2 years now. I lost my left leg at the hip. The Dr. told me I'd have phantom pains for about 3 months & if they lasted longer, I'd have them on & off for the rest of my life. I still get them periodically, but the phantom itches are the worst. Nothing worse than having an itch that can't be scratched. Lol! Hope your day is amazing!

I did actually read some papers about the life span thing, and there are some factors like amputees who are not able to walk being more at risk of cardiovascular disease and things, so may be why the question was googled :)

I found this really interesting and I would like you to make more videos like this. I found it quite upsetting though when you answered how painful is an amputation, I hate the thought of you or anybody being in any pain
I think most things that put you in hospital are painful 😂😂😂

Really odd question- how tall are you in your prosthetics? Did you get to choose the length of your legs? Is it chosen for you?
How long have your sockets lasted you since you’ve stopped growing?
I got to choose height height for my prosthetics obviously within reason. With mine I’m about 5‘4“. When I got these legs I just about stopped growing and I’ve had this for almost 2 years!!
I actually asked an amputee friend of mine if she got drunk faster, and she said yes.

If your legs aren't waterproof, what about when it rains? I accept you can't swim in them but in this country you can't guarantee they won't get wet if you take them outside. And how do you shower? Do you do it sitting?
You can obviously get them a bit wet so rain is fine and I just shower without them
Hi Izzy, your content is amazing! I was just wondering if an amputee needs new prosthetics if they get pregnant (because of the weight gain and the shape changes)?
I’m not too sure what would happen when it comes to a pregnancy because it would change so quickly. For a minute you’re like would get too big for prosthetics you would be unable to walk.

I'm a prosthetics student, so these are my thoughts regarding pregnant women with an amputation: You might get a new prosthetic socket if there's a lot of weight gain and the socket no longer fits. Weight gain can also affect how well the prosthesis suits the individual as the prosthetic design may require a specific shape. Aside from socket fit issues, pregnancy may also affect the alignment of the prosthesis as a pregnant woman stands and walks differently to someone who isn't pregnant. So the alignment may need to be adjusted by the prosthetist
With the calories part on 11:00 less body blood, but with the prosthetic same or more weight walking around.

Is it possible for you to have arms/legs transplant and if yes why didnt you?
Yes it is and I have been spoken to about it. For me I think if something isn’t broken you shouldn’t fix it. And how I live my life now isn’t broken and there aren’t things I crave to do that an arm transplant would fix
@@IsabelleWeall thank you. Your answear blows my mind. I assumed that only thing you are dreaming is to have more mobility and independence through transplant. It seems one doesnt miss what it doesnt know. Having a transplant carries the downside of immune system rejecting the limb and lifelong need of taking immunosupresants.
Im so happy for you that you are happy the way you are. Somehow its a relief for me.

It’s funny, because when I read your question I thought that you were either very young & naïve or very ignorant.
THEN I got the shock of my life when Isabelle responded that this is something that has been discussed with her!! I had no idea that limb transplants were a thing! It turns out that I’M the ignorant one!
I’d heard of a hand transplant but this was way back when these things were in their experimental phase, I didn’t know that medicine had advanced so quickly and that this was a viable option.
