doubtfull, wireless vr is improving massively. Rumours are valve next vr headset will be a wireless vr headset connected to a console like boxx (similar to a ps5)
No, we will just have to wait until mobile chipsets improve and wireless headsets have pcvr level graphics. We're starting to get there. Red Matter 2 looks PCVR quality, so does the upcoming Batman Arkham VR game. Apples silicon is powerful and efficient and other mobile devices will have equivalent chipsets. But PCVR will never go mainstream, because it requires IT knowledge, and has too much jank and inconsistency. I say that as someone who's spent thousands of hours on pcvr, but my career is in IT. Editing config files and installing third party mods and troubleshooting technical issues is not a problem for me. It will be for 99% of the population.
My old hp omen 15 laptop that cost me $1300 with GTX 1080 8gb cant even load up half life anyx. The fact this thing is 1/2 cost and plays it is mind blowing. Technology continues to surprise me.
It's cool that the Z1 Extreme has enough chops to do some light VR gaming. I was really impressed that it handled Half Life Alyx as well as it did. But I would get a dedicated router to replace that USB Wi-Fi hotspot nonsense. Those things add latency that could be avoided by just having a separate router for running VR machines and headsets. These things like to advertise specs like they are amazing for having a 2400 total mbps capable connection, when in reality you don't need anything that fast just to stream between the PC and the VR headset, it helps for downloading games sure, but for streaming to the headset you only really need a few hundred mbps capable connection, so any competent inexpensive router capable of at least N300 speeds would be a perfectly serviceable dedicated Wireless VR router. Also in the case of the Ally X removes some processor and power load where cpu cycles are at a premium because while what the Z1 Extreme can do is impressive for what it is, it still is a low end system as far as dedicated gaming is concerned. I Recommend anyone using a Quest headset for Wireless VR setup a router specifically for their headset and not fall into the trap of these USB wireless devices. You will get better performance.
I would like to see some tests using an external GPU, particularly, if possible, a portable external GPU: i.e. 7600M variants (I'm hoping ASUS comes up with their own external mobile GPU) like the GDP G1 or OneXPlayer OnexGPU. Better yet at a later time try the new OneXPlayer OnexGPU 2 when it gets released soonish.

I got my Ally since release and it's a nice gaming handheld that can also function as a full PC-replacement (it can even run my 5120 x 1440p display at full res, 30 fps), but certainly not for VR. I run RDR2, Spiderman Remastered, AC:Odyssey etc. on it with decent enough performance (>40 fps) in 900p or The Witcher 3 on low-medium 1080p at 60 fps. That's impressive for 2D-gaming in this form-factor and I usually using it in bed on a small pillow on my chest to not carry it's weight. Yeah, but 90fps+ is ideal for VR. She locked her framerate to 72fps for a more stable connection to minimize delay, if your wifi signal is strong enough to not have that delay, then you should be able to hit that 90fps+ mark considering the ally was consistently staying at 72fps when it was locked
perfect for flat gaming but considering its $800 you can build an amazing gaming pc or get a gaming laptop that would work way better for that price , thank you for an amazing video
A GTX970 used to run my CV1! You are able to play 2 generations above that with embedded graphics?!?!?!? A 1070 is already decent low spec VR hardware. I just can't believe it. And you were driving Quest 3 screen so low res stands out more. A Quest 1 or 2 would look more natural.. Guy's VR Desktop is super clean and lean already but I bet if he tuned a present for that specific chipset it would be even better. Paging Doctor Godin!

Hey y’all. Has anyone played no man’s sky VR with the ally x? My PC died and I don’t have enough funds for a new pc. Something like the Ally X would be a nice replacement.
your thumbnail has the device mirrored and the D-Pad on the wrong side had me freaked out for about 6 minutes. Then i clicked the video and was relieved the D-Pad and other buttons were on the correct side.
Hello, discreet test, but you shouldn’t do at home what you can do with a fixed PC, the test should be done in an outdoor park with the device on maybe in a backpack or shoulder strap, then there is that portability would make the difference where outdoors you would do PCVR and then you can’t play with a terminal like that with limited power with VR with the FOV at maximum, you should start first at 50% and then depending on the game raise or lower it. ✌️ Played like this is madness, at least now, then we’ll see with the next generations of laptops! 🤞
I did my own review of the PrismXR Puppis S1 awhile back and it is the best accessory for VR. Did not know about the desktop app, did all using there mobile app, going to install it and check it out. Thanks for the video ❤🎉

i like how you clearly never used low end system :D you set lower and lower in VD and did not noticed you render resolution is increasing and increasing , you need set it to manual 100% :D and you reduce bit rate but on AMD gpu you can easy set 100 mb actually you should redo a vid because it is misleading , you left SSW on and similar stuff this is just wrong ... for me a person who set up so many low end VR it just a pain to see how bad you on it :D
Why would you like to to do that in the first place? The Quest 3 already has integrated graphics capable of doing that job... If you'd like the PC VR experience connect it to a high end PC... not this!!
you are connected with 286 mps, this is really low and not feasible for good wireless-pcvr-streaming. it is clear that your having massive wireless connection problems with your wireless solution. now you are representing the device's capabilities and pcvr-streaming WRONG. why aren't you sorting out these connection problem BEFORE making a video? you should also at least put some research in how to interprete the vd-overlay.....

Is the rift s still a goodheadset for entry level PCVR gaming?asking coz the other headset resolutions need $1000+ PCs to run any PC game in VR using something like vorpex
Que voz mulher, que voz...❤
Now I am wondering how the Ally X would handle VR if you installed SteamOS on it...
Can it play Assetto Corsa?
I would like to see you testing with PSVR2 🙂
Virtual Desktop lets you use a windows mobile hotspot for the maximum bitrate unlike Steam Link
Hi ! Thanks a lot for this great video ❤!! Do you think is possible to connect it with a PSVR2? Thanks a lot in advance 😊
The Legion GO does.
is 72fps playable for most people in VR?
Yeah, but 90fps+ is ideal for VR. She locked her framerate to 72fps for a more stable connection to minimize delay, if your wifi signal is strong enough to not have that delay, then you should be able to hit that 90fps+ mark considering the ally was consistently staying at 72fps when it was locked
Dam thank you great vid
perfect for flat gaming but considering its $800 you can build an amazing gaming pc or get a gaming laptop that would work way better for that price , thank you for an amazing video
Well I already know the answer considering I have the original Ally and I play not too graphic heavy games off of it
2:26 You said 12GB, but it actually has 24gb RAM. If you read closer it says 12GB * 2. This is why it's important to be knowledgeable about devices you are reviewing.
That's the same spot I'm stuck at in Halflife Alyx. I gave up on the game.
@alterreels I did. The guy falls and I hear a bunch of people trying to break in. The guy on the rope has a gun that I can't take away.
@@alterreels I did that and still couldn't get the gun. 🤷♂️
Obrigado pelo video, Me ajudou a entender a capacidade desse monstro chamado Asus Rog Ally X
Thank you for your great review 😎
I have just got the previous model ROG Ally for only 473€, and I would be very grateful if you could have a look on how it does VR? Thank you so much, with best regards from Vienna, Austria 😘
Asus Rog AllyX have 24GB RAM, 8GB for VRAM
Hey y’all. Has anyone played no man’s sky VR with the ally x? My PC died and I don’t have enough funds for a new pc. Something like the Ally X would be a nice replacement.
The test is useless with 236 MBPS only no?? Im asking .
your thumbnail has the device mirrored and the D-Pad on the wrong side had me freaked out for about 6 minutes. Then i clicked the video and was relieved the D-Pad and other buttons were on the correct side.
Lmao, sorry that I messed with your head a little 💜
this proves that Steamdeck 2 + Deckard will rule videogame world
LETS GO (can't wait)
Tried can’t link up with psvr2. Very disappointed
Holy crap half life alyx runs at 70fps with that thing
Hello,
discreet test, but you shouldn’t do at home what you can do with a fixed PC, the test should be done in an outdoor park with the device on maybe in a backpack or shoulder strap, then there is that portability would make the difference where outdoors you would do PCVR and then you can’t play with a terminal like that with limited power with VR with the FOV at maximum, you should start first at 50% and then depending on the game raise or lower it. ✌️
Played like this is madness, at least now, then we’ll see with the next generations of laptops! 🤞
I did my own review of the PrismXR Puppis S1 awhile back and it is the best accessory for VR. Did not know about the desktop app, did all using there mobile app, going to install it and check it out. Thanks for the video ❤🎉
What?? It has 24gb ram not 12
It's not a good test when your networking setup ruins the experience. A good access point in the same room is 10x faster.
Will it work on my ROG Ally? I haven't tried because have a ryzen 9 5900x and Rx 6800 PC but this could be good for when I go to my sisters. If it runs half life alyx. But I know Rog ally X has more Ram maybe that is the deciding factor. I hope not. Co's upgrading to Rog Ally X is not on the cards for me I am upgrading my GPU next now I have my Rog ally steam deck and Quest 3 and PSVR2 with adaptor all bought and paid for. Oh and just got a google Pixel 8a as well. So yeah GPU next and then maybe AM5 platform upgrade maybe. And to any fanboys who wanna comment about Nvidia I am and have always been an AMD PC builder/gamer so thanks but no thanks.Edit you said you hasdn't tried on Rog Ally at the end..my bad
you can play alyx on a $300 mini pc
Is there a video link?
@@ricokd507 I got a new PC when it came out but i had issues with it so I had to play on my old gtx 970 and it worked fine so I would say 300$ makes sense.
TLDR: it sucks even with "potato" quality settings.
Half-Life Ally X. Get it? Alyx. Ally X.
Sorry :(
Disable your anti virus and disable firewall that's what I do with my puppis
I think it’d be great of you have WiFi 6e router and do the wired connection to ROG Ally X. At least we’d see the most peak minimum latency possible.
With mobile gaming and VR there is a lot more Cas but they just don't push. There are so many Chinese manufacturers that have better and more advanced technology than Asus currently has.
Any recommendations of those to try?
@@CasandChary OneXPlayer X1 with 8845HS and Oculink. Then buy the Minisforum Egpu dock and use the GPU from the desktop and power adaptor. I’ve already written to them all and suggested to show them their hardware with VR, but I’m too small as a channel, they don’t respond to me. I also don’t have 2000-3000€ every month for my hobby. Maybe you will have more success.
@@CasandChary ?

I wouldn't say there are 'so many' that compare to the ROG. And if I was spending a lot of money I'd be going with an Asus product as you know you have the support. 'So Many' other Chinese Companies are here today gone tomorrow with almost zero support if something goes wrong. ASUS have offices globally.
Sorry but 2-4 hours is terrible the steam deck oled battery is like half the size and can get upto 3 hours
i want one to watch jav videoa
i like how you clearly never used low end system :D
you set lower and lower in VD and did not noticed you render resolution is increasing and increasing , you need set it to manual 100% :D and you reduce bit rate but on AMD gpu you can easy set 100 mb
actually you should redo a vid because it is misleading , you left SSW on and similar stuff this is just wrong ... for me a person who set up so many low end VR it just a pain to see how bad you on it :D
🤦🏿♂️ It has 24gb ram not 12
It says 12*2, that's 24
It’s the router is bad!
