    the fact that you have taken the time to revise your guides by year is truly a godsend! too often the readily available guides are outdated and require additional research. i have been following this series with my first build, a 3d printed wing. these videos have been invaluable at every phase-thank you sir!

      I'm the same. I've got a Bixler I specifically bought years ago to build Ardupilot into (I'd probably go with inav now)... Flew it manually twice. Crashed it on the second one. Repaired it a few months later.... And it's been hanging from a hook on the ceiling of my shed/office ever since. The GPS and flight controller intended to go into it are still sitting in my desk. Every so often I play with them, but I've been really hesitant and frankly afraid to mount them into the plane itself.
      Hopefully this series encourages me to actually do it and go out flying again.

  • @migalito1955
    @migalito1955 Год назад

    Well, 12 years of being absent from the hobby and wow, what differences.
    I had been using a Spectrum DX 6 and receivers such as the AR610 or AR7010 which are meant for individual connections to each servo presumably using PWM as the communication between Rx & each servo.
    I was initially afraid my DX6 had become obsolete for use with a flight controller because the receivers I have are not using a serial output to the next piece of electronics in the chain nor can they via any jumper.
    Looking at the new line up of Spectrum recievers I see indeed they do have receivers intended for use with a flight controller by having a serial protocol for output to a controller. So its likely I don't have to trash my DX6 and spend another $350 on a transmitter.
    Assuming I can use a Spectrum Serial style receiver for interfacing with the flight controller you demonstrated in the video my 1st question is do you have a good choice for which to buy? On the other hand the serial protocol of the serial Spectrum receiver might not be identical to SBUS which I hear is a Futuba protocol, thus not usable with the controller you demonstrated. Should this be the case do you have a recomendation for a fitting controller?
    Thanks in advance as well as your tutorials on this subject and it was overwhelming without your videos as well as a bit of research to break thru what I have missed.
    Frankly at this point in time all I want is return home and the less capable stabilizer with the return home feature may work with old style PWM receivers, don't know and I will check that out. But, at a latter date I do want to add mission planning and telemetry so flight controller using INAV seems to be the better bet to start with.
    Thanks again,
    Mike

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  Год назад +1

      Hey Mike, sadly Spektrum don't widely support the protocols that modern, powerful, cost effective and open systems now use. Namely, SBUS and CRSF. Luckily, modern radios are a lot more powerful that the Spektrum stuff you're used to and can provide access to the modern hobby with all of the advances that have happened since you last flew. Check out my 'Kit Picks' video for this years picks..
      If you want to stay with your Spektrum stuff, then you can use things like the ZOHD Kopilot Lite and connect via the PWM channels. I have videos on how that all works on the channel..

      @@Painless360My second thanks. Your right, the lite versions of RadioMaster are not very pricy at all. I could get one for 1/3 the cost of the DX6 I bought in 2011.
      Spot on with Spectrum is pretty useless flight controller wise. Except for their satellite unit that can be made to work with round abouts their serial receivers are only for telemetry. Honestly, given all the hype from a decade or more ago regarding Spectrum was the way to fly they are a bit of a big disappointment.
      I just bought a small Durafly Tundra to fly out my back door as a birthday gift, so I will not go too crazy this month to celebrate my 68th birthday, but I think I will add the ZOHD Kopilot along with the cake to my self gifting. I did spend some time looking at it and it would really be nice to have on my 2 meter Salto which I can add some analog FVP to.
      I have plenty of space such as 130 acres, but a lot is woods and I am always worried about FPV using crappy analog resolution and becoming disoriented, thus for right now RTH on the Kopilot installed in the Salto would be very welcome. Later I'll update to the proper transmitter for all the really cool stuff.
      Again thanks and I am over the hump in understanding the needs now. The rest is pretty easy and not much different than mucking around with an Arduino so I expect once I get hopping it will not lead to frustration.
      Thanks much.....

    I guess this is a new inav 6 series. Like these iNav series cause they cover usually also all the new features.

    I also have a Speedy Bee F405 Wing from may or so cause it supports the Wifi configuration even though I have the speedybe Adapter 3 for getting access to Matek F405.

    Hi Lee, working on my first Inav build, a Ranger 2m with the Speedybee F405 Wing.
    I had picked up a GPS, also from Speedybee, that didn't include a compass then ordered another that included a compass when I realized that the first one didn't "have enough wires"...lol
    You said that you didn't recommend using the compass on your wing....could you elaborate on your reasoning please?
    I seem to recall that you said in another video, on a quad IIRC, that you do indeed need a compass, I'm just curious as to why.
