Hi, Everyone - Happy Summer! Happy gardening! Jay and Jen are so close to 50K subscribers - let’s put them over the top! 😍🇨🇦
Woot woot.......love it ❤️❤️❤️
Garlic: If it's soft neck garlic, you let it go until the tops start to brown, but if it's hard neck garlic, once it starts to sprout garlic scapes, cut the scapes before they flower; it helps to to increase the bulb size and you can use them in anything you would use garlic in. They have a mild flavor. FYI - soft neck garlic has a longer shelf life than hard neck garlic.
Thank you for helping us out. 😊
Jen...you will see a curly growth coming out of the center of your garlic plant. Wait until it grows up and starts to curl, then snip it off in the center base. They are delicious to eat...mild garlic flavor. Love the garden and you guys keep on improving!! Impressive!
Yeah there is a girl that has a channel that is growing garlic, called acre homestead, if you want to see what the curly things look like she just posted a few days ago of snapping those curly things off and she tells you why
- Coins in cement. When I was youngster many years ago a neighbor was pouring a concrete porch pad. They placed a couple penny’s into the fresh concrete. I asked why and they said it was for good luck and pennies were (current year) a record for all to see. I’ll always remember it. …1960
Very cool.....I like it
Awesome project and thank you for using the lucky coins in the cement, you two made my day 😄
Woot woot buddy. Now I see them every time I water something 😊
@@OffgridwithJayandJen I can't wait to see how you build your root cellar
Hi Jen Hi Jay , time for me to catch up i've been on vacation. Oh you too are so funny Love Jens laugh lol and your comments to each other god love ya . You folks have more water pressure at your off grid than I have at my home ... Darn. Your garden plants look great Mine have bugs attacking every plant, wish I knew your pest control secret. love learning what you do thanks kid's .
Welcome back, hope you enjoyed your trip ! As for bugs, no secret.. just lucky I guess.
"there's so much dirt!" Ha gossip ! Thanks Jen !! :)
😊👍
I second the dirt everywhere comment 😂
Everywhere all the time! Drives us nuts! At least you guys understand the woes of off grid living 🤣.
Great little cement pads there. We need to do the very same thing. I'd like to add awnings to our house also.
Jen's Laughter and smile is contagious....❤
Lots of love my friend
I love learning from you guys !!!🎉
Lol....:) Thanks for the sprinkling Jen....:) God Bless you guys....🎉
He he 😂
Great inspiration, guys! -V
You’ll need a bonding agent between layers of concrete but good luck with all your projects.
Love this so much, looks great!! Can’t wait to try it out for myself!!
Best of luck! It really is pretty easy especially if you just need a small spot!
@@OffgridwithJayandJenthank you, I watched the video where you guys did the long sidewalk yesterday, that was awesome as well. Thank you for the inspiration, hubby and I were intimidated about concrete until watching, we are off grid as well in southern Ohio
@@breakfreewithnickandbrie thanks for watching. Hello neighbor:D
You could have used a window screen to get the powder out of the Quikrete that you had left over and then spread that on top what's a pad just a bit more and use a MAG float you would have got a nicer finish
👍
Hi guys! Happy Wednesday. ❤
Happy Wednesday my friend
Jay love and enjoy watching your videos. May the lord bless and protect you and Jen working on the homestead
Woot woot
try 50/50 sand cement and use latex admix from the concrete aisle. 1 gal will do both pathches....
Another great job! The garden looks great!
😊👍
Thank you, Jay and Jen for showing me Quick and Easy:Mini dry pour
Woot woot
okay now I am going to try this !
If you need a simple pad.....it works great.
You guys are amazing! That spinach is beautiful!❤️❤️❤️🐾🐾
Hey yah you guys are right every thing get dirty. Living in the bush or woods . Anyway have a wonderful week and be safe and sound and take care 😊
Perfect spot for a mini split to sit as well.
😊
The only pruning you should do to garlic is snip off the scapes.
put in your Mr. Cool min split
Your mix seems to have more rock, try tamping it down next time and sift out the rocks for the last half inch on top. Curious to see how it works out for sure.
Ya we bought the cheap stuff rather than the common brand.....thinking it may be making a difference
That meal looked delish! Great job on the pad. 😍🇨🇦
Thank you 😋
Great video
Good job 👍
Nice job
Love your videos whether they are short or long❤
Love it. Thank you 😊
I kept waiting to see the coins, so assume that they didn't do well either. I would chip out all that comes loose before patching as the thinner the layer, and the looser the base, the quicker the patch will pop out. Then I would use some form of sealant as ice can pop it out also. We have been fighting patches in our large driveway for years but won't spring for the quite expensive replacement or asphalt.
Coins did just fine
Hello! Cheers!
Woot woot
👍
If it doesn't work patching with cement. Pour a epoxy on top and you could add non slip material if needed
Great idea
Do you guys live at the cabin year round, or only stay there on the weekends? If I had the same setup as you have, I would sell my home and most material things. Being at the cabin, just seems more lay backed, easygoing, and less stressful. I really don’t know your current situation, maybe you still have to work until retirement. You guys have a dream that came through, very awesome and relaxing.
We spend 80% of our time at the cabin. We have to work a little and go downstate for holidays and family stuff.
i hope you're happy your breakfast was a lot better than mine dave from ct bacon bacon i love bacon
i think jen overwater it from start upposed to MIST lightly betweent each course, alsomif you going to go over the problem areas there is a produc tat big box stores that can be placed over the existing concreat dont just use bag of cement good luck like the pads as addition
BTW...that is a scape😊
Your "real" natural smile in becoming.....NOT the fake one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🙄
Thanks for a good video. Looks fine for what it was made for. Could you even get a cement truck up that hill?
No chance of a truck getting up here.....too steep and narrow
@@OffgridwithJayandJen That’s what I thought.
Did you screed that? Watch Cajon Country as they have done a lot of them.
Yes we did. This particular concrete is a lot more gravely than the concrete they have used. We will repair it :D thanks for watching
so you are installing a mini-split a/c and heat ? that's what is in the back of the truck correct ? Keep the upgrades coming .
Video coming this sunday......super exciting
Why are you putting a concrete slab off to side of house? Not big enough to sit out on. What's your plans for this slab?❤
In the video my friend
Will you be painting your house to keep the mould off the boards on your house?
We hope to.... but right now we are working on other projects
Turned out great! Did you not have to put the bars in there because it was a small pad?
Ya it was not a worry for something so small.....just my thoughts
@@OffgridwithJayandJen That is what I figured
🖐😎👍
So, is the outdoor part of the mini split gonna go on that pad as well?
Wish we could have put it here.....but we made it work elsewhere i
So what if you left your form on, then added 1/2 inch or 1 inch of wood on top of the form, then pour concrete leveler on top?
That's a good idea...I like it. Although I want to experiment with skimming this one, so I can see if it turns out well.....if it does im going to skim right in front of the mudroom a little. But I like your way
@@OffgridwithJayandJen can't wait to see your next video on it!
fyi they sell blocks that size for the base underair conditioners and such i realize you wanted to use what you already had but fyi
Nice......good to know. Thanks
🇳🇴👍👍
Wet pour next time. Dry pour are for the fence guys
And it works great here too
I think Jason is finally convinced we need to at least TRY a dry pour concrete pad. I think we need a few. 😁 Nice guys. Soooo dirty! 🤣
Easy peasy
Not once, not twice, but three times a dry concrete pour.
Isn't theee tomes supposed to be a charm.
I've seen contractors make a concrete slurry and skim coat with good results
Hope it works for you.
My aunt says the garlic bulbs get their nutrients from the leaves. So cutting back the leaves would reduce the nutrients resulting in smaller bulbs.
It must be nice to walk out your door and pick your food.
Hoping that everything you've planted does good.
Hoping it works for us too.....loving the fresh garden goodies
Garden is coming along nicely......I will do a little garden video in the next week or two
Damn jen looks so tired or is it the haircut
The first minute of the video is literally explaining that we are dirty and whooped....Sooooo????
Danish language please 😎😎😎🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
Just added the subtitles! I am sorry they didn't get added before the video went live.@ -Jennny
Im surprised it’s not another power station review…
That one is coming next week, you can wait patiently for it
