Due to the heat (we're from Alaska) I spent a good chunk of it in the river trying not to be a heat casualty, but we turned even that into an adventure as we just started at the Non-Decorum bridge and swam/floated our way all the way down the river to the main pool... aaaand then promptly remembered we'd left our shoes, towels, etc. on the complete other end of the site and had to do the Walk of Shame through both Old and New town soaking wet and in bathing suits (or boxer-briefs in one guy's case 🤣 ) barefoot. It was fun :D Due to work I won't be able to make it back next year, but plan on coming out with my daughters in 2026 as my oldest will be 16 and able to fight :)
Just a clarification youre not allowed to steal at Bico, unless its specifically somthing that has been tagged as a stealable item. Theft is still illegal and can get you kicked from the event
I already live in The Blue Ridge mountains of Appalachia, since 2018..almost off grid. There is no cell phone service. There is landline and DSL internet. That is it. I have learned a lot about survival. I do live in a huge 1938 circa house. The mountains are peaceful but no one reaches out to help me adjust. The adventures are amazing. I am a 75 year old woman living alone in the mountains surrounded by National forests. My life is an adventure - for real every day.
Welcome to the larp community. Never been to Bico myself but I’ve been regularly larping for two years now in the general NY PA NJ area. It’s a lot of fun!
In my area there are many that you can attend! I haven’t really left like these 3 states because of issues with regards to extended travel however I have had a lot of Fun at Alterra which is a smaller larp that meets once a month in PA or NJ. I also regularly attend Knightrealms aka KR which is fun but is definitely much larger and can be somewhat overwhelming to first timers, but just like Alterra there are many who are happy to welcome you in and help you get sorted! Finally I have heard good things from my friends about Neverafter which only recently started within the last year! I have not gotten to that larp yet though. If you are looking for something outside of High Fantasy I know a few who enjoy Dystopia Rising which has chapters across the country of the United States. Ultimately I found that local larps are more enjoyable to me over blockbuster larps. You can attend more frequently and get to know the people you are playing with which has definitely made for longer lasting friendships.
@@brinashiloff3439 thank you so much for the detailed response!😊I have wanted to find a LARP group for so long (after playing D&D for many years) but have had a tougher time finding anything around me(I'm in Brooklyn). Will definitely look into all these.
Yes! When she described people showing up to your house unannounced just to see you it gave me such a sense of nostalgia. Life has changed so much since those days. Some good some bad. Can’t wait to experience bicolline for myself!
@@justlanchen what's the rules on cameras though? I mean of course you have footage here so that must mean its okay, but did you have to take special permission for that? Or is it DSLR's / action cams only, no phone cameras?
Have you ever been to Pennsic outside of Pittsburgh ? It is 10,000 Medieval Reenactors in one place in August as part of the SCA. If you think the worlds biggest LARP is something than you need to do Pennsic.
@@justlanchen No I sadly haven't, I have been wanting to go for around 5 years now and hope to go in the next year or two! 😊(so thanks again, videos like these help fill the bico shaped hole in my heart lmao)
I have dreamed of going to Bicolline ever since I first heard about it. Chronic health conditions, and limited mobility will probably keep me from ever actually being able to go, but it's still a fun fantasy. If I ever get a full body transplant, it will be one of the first things I do 🙂. Until then, I'll enjoy watching the videos other folks make about their experiences.
I also have health conditions so when i saw the fairies, it’s more my vibe anyways, i was wondering about that part! I wonder if you can just vibe and embroider and have tea or something 😂😂😂 i’d like to be a witch or a fairy
@@jbkawaiiholic That sounds like so much fun. Maybe you could also go as an NPC who just needs to stay in one spot and be a quest giver or some such? I guess I need to figure out how to disguise a wheelchair so that it looks like a rocking chair or something? 😄
@@ahatfullofdreams this has been done, you see people with serious health condition at big larp events kinda regularily. @@ahatfullofdreams The first known depiction of a wheelchair is from a gravestone in China and dated 525 CE. And since this event doesn't have much to do with actual medieval anything, I suspect you could easily get away with making it look somewhat wooden and throwing a pelt over it.
It was so awesome hanging out with you during Bicolline! Getting to see all of it again in the video is even better!!! I can't wait to see you again next year! -Crow
Growing up in the 70s/80s we would always just be showing up at our friends' houses unannounced. Looking back now I realize how great it was and I'm glad I got to grow up that way.
This video came across my RUclips feed and I clicked it thinking "wow, this is going to be awkward watching all these people play medieval times".... I got hooked, watched the entire video, and I'm checking out The Voyage North. This looks amazing! I have a new bucket list item!
I enjoyed it! Thank you and glad I stumbled to your channel tonight. I've attended ren festivals in south Louisiana and south Florida and still do. This experience appears next level! Nice for sharing so much!
It looks like it! I have been watching only videos about Bicolline on RUclips since I watched this one lol Any ren faire is my happy place. I often say that I'd live at one.... and until I saw this video, I thought working a season at my local (MN Ren Faire) was a top tier/life goal lol Bicolline is that times 100.
ive been wanting to go to Bicolline since i first discovered it in 2018, now that im finally an adult i hope some day i can go. It's really interesting to see how far its come since those days.
Since you're in Los Angeles, I recommend researching local groups. LA has several fantastic groups like Twin Mask, Dystopia Rising, AMTGARD, and Dagorhir, and lots of weekly fighter practices that you would likely enjoy. You also mentioned Role Models - most of the background extras (and the technical advisors credited) in the film are active local LARPers from LA that also do commercials, TV shows, and other movies when they come up. I've been in several, and it's always a blast. Huzzah!
9:01 Ha! I remember this, actually. Capture Steve was my hubby’s quest, and his mug 🤣 and of course it was my hubby that greeted Meat just before he noticed Steve was gone
I was worried about combat but having a tea party with the fae and being a combat healer sounds awesome. I’d definitely love to experience this someday!
19:22 I may have bailed on you at the start of the merc battle, but I killed one of the guards and got the bag halfway back before being stabbed in the back by a "teammate" :( I'm glad you were able to avenge my effort and secure the bag for the Emperor!
The more I watch these videos about LARPING, the more I want to go to one. But what I find surprising is that a lot of people are going by themselves to these events. I've been finding it hard to find people to go to a LARP event and a lot of people are going by themselves. I'm thinking that might be the move I make. Bicolline looks like a blast!!
That's pretty cool! I think a friend who's in the SCA/HEMA scene in Vermont mentioned this event very briefly even though it's in Quebec, further up north from this state. I don't LARP but used to play TTRPGs in the past and currently do epee fencing. It looks like great fun, though.
Thank you so much for this video, this was great - I've been wanting to go for year now, and gotta wait a bit longer to save up, but your video solidified it for me even more, I just have to go at least once!!
It's not "openly allowed". If you pull out your phone to take a picture, no one minds. If you were walking down the street taking selfies... people... still might not say anything... but they might say "ne pas decorum!" (not decorum!) No one really wants to, and during the GB we know there are a lot of folks making content and that is just... its cool, it's fine. That is how Bico is. The CHILDREN heckle non-decorum more than the adults do, lol. With all things, including french, and staying in character - "trying" is valued over everything. Greet folks in the Morning with "Bon matin!". Say "merci" when you can. If you understand something, say "weh" (or way, or quack like a duck). It means "yeah". No one says "oui"(wee). Most folks will switch into english and there... you tried. That is Bico. Just try. Our game blows up from 600 to 5,500 for a week... 8 of 9 people you see will be new, or once-a-year... We are zen with it. Even my core group of 16 blows up to 30ish. It happens. But that also includes our kids... and friends... and wonderful visitors. It's fine. We invited you. Just "try", and everyone is cool. :)
Very nice video! I had no idea it was an advertisement for the voyage north, but it was very well done. Good job! Every time I see someone make a video for Bico - I definitely want to go! But... it's much more difficult for me - I'm disabled... getting better tho! So hopefully one day! Looks like a lot of fun! I used to boffer LARP for over 20+ years.
So I saw Jess's video first, (Trix - Nova Veta). Between the 2 videos, it really shows how a person can go to the same even with the same group, and judging by your BRoll be on the same bus, but have completely different experiences. I've been a follower of both your channels for some time. Was there anyone else there on a media pass that you can point me too to see different views? Ideally family related but not required.
I am with the Marchwarden guild and i make videos on Bicolline if you are interested! I do a lot of battle videos but i also have other videos on random things at bicolline and walks through the towns. I had a ton of good footage this year but it got stolen at the event!

I believe I will try to attend a few events thanks to you.
Great video! I feel like there’s a certain cringe factor that keeps people (including me) from participating in something like this. What advice would you have for us?
As an American with Quebecois ancestry, this is really interesting to me. It is also because I taught fencing and performed at the original Renaissance Faire (north one) for 20 years until 1995. We always had some medieval presence from the SCA. However, from what I see online, these faires have mostly become Cosplay fairs. What I see of your costume and the people in the video is a very mixed medieval to 17th century with a lot of "Pirates of the Caribbean: junk injected. But mixed-up time periods and fantasy is better than no cultural expression of these periods at all. In the realm of fantasy, I'd say that Tolkien was the largest influence when it occurred, mostly in fairegoes. There was a delightful guy for a few years who would show up as King Arthur with Patsy, banking coconut shells together as he pranced through the faire. Everyone injected Monty Python humor into things here and there. Those who took themselves too seriously had the tendency to become a-holes. There was a kind of underground occultism and Wicca at the faires which were based on the Harvest Festivals, which were full of pagan rituals and holidays. During that period I lived with two women who professed to be Wiccans. I am familiar with it all. (I was the head of a chivalric order for seven years). My fencing group was the first to develop rapier and dagger fencing which became the so-called "Historical Fencing." BTW; the individuals I see in the melees are holding their swords in the modern way, taking the modern (17c on) leading leg style rather than the period squared pose, using their points in the modern fashion (smart if you don't want to get hit, but the modern on guard came from dueling, which is one on one, not a melee). However, the sponsoring Living History Center had guidelines for historical accuracy among the participants. This one looks more authentic, but some Cosplay is involved because, for example, female warriors are a stretch, historically speaking.
Hi! I like you video! I did go to Bicolline this years for the 3th time. And i like your point of views! I'm with a french viking guild, on the "côte Norse" so we are not in the same spot. And I would like to point an error, BicoZoo is friday, it's the decouvert day and the Grande Bataille is saturday. I would like to see the others videos that you'll do on the subject!
"Jviens deeeee terrebonne" is so Québecois. Its always refreshing to hear my accent in video I wouldn't expect. although I knew of bicoline, I didn't want to assume on the get-go that the french part would be shown :3
Hehe, you're the second person I've seen post a video about this event.. The other one, I can't remember her name (only saw it yesterday) but she came from Florida. had fox ears on, was called Trix in-game. Edit: Her name is Jess Less

if there were no phones and technology allowed how do you charge your camera? Or is it allowed in the tents? I kinda missed that in your video. Can you charge your electronic devices in your tent?
Great video. Saw you and yours being amazing, tho long week and full schedule prevented me from visiting all parts of your group this year. If you return come visit your neighbors, and play in 'Duel Alley' if you want to test your fighting prowess! :) -your neighbors, GenAsher Fells, Lys Noir. Great job on your video showing Bico, how to get involved, and how accessible that game can be. Kudos.
That looks absolutely awesome. Just out of curiosity, how did you do the filming? I saw kiki cool mossy phone stick camouflage. Did you do something similar or where you just sneaky?
I got to a boffer larp and the events are exactly the same, you can chill and drink with just about anyone and everyone is there to party and have fun.
Here in the US I've participated in a group called Dagorhir since the late 1970's. Most of it is not as large as this, but its still the same kind of fun. If you are interesting, look around. There is likely a similar group near you.
I think Role Models made LARPing look awesome. They do it by me at the park and it is very similar to what they show. They are great people just having a great time. I feel that Role Models showed how people misjudge it.
Bruh you really let a pine beetle crawl on you 😩 those bites hurt so much and they can be aggressive for no reason. It's funny that this is the reason why I felt the need to comment. This seems so cool and so close to me as well I need to do it next year!

It was fun :D
Due to work I won't be able to make it back next year, but plan on coming out with my daughters in 2026 as my oldest will be 16 and able to fight :)
As a 25 year old man dying to get out of endless suburbia, that sounds like Heaven to me! God bless and stay safe!
Welcome to the larp community. Never been to Bico myself but I’ve been regularly larping for two years now in the general NY PA NJ area. It’s a lot of fun!
Hello there! What groups would you recommend for first time LARPers?
@@valkyrieneedsfood hope to see you at Alterra or KR! I’m always happy to help out new faces.
What you described about the lack of cell phones in texting is how these events were for us in the 90s. I've done the SCA, but this looks amazing.
I loved it so much. It’s hard going back to normal life after this experience.
Thank you so much for this video. This experience sounds absolutely amazing and so immersive. I will definitely be going someday now!
Have you ever been to Pennsic outside of Pittsburgh ? It is 10,000 Medieval Reenactors in one place in August as part of the SCA. If you think the worlds biggest LARP is something than you need to do Pennsic.
I have always loved Bicolline! And your videos are always a fun watch so thank you for sharing your adventure!
🥰🥰🥰 thank you so much for watching!! Have you been to Bico too???
@@justlanchen No I sadly haven't, I have been wanting to go for around 5 years now and hope to go in the next year or two! 😊(so thanks again, videos like these help fill the bico shaped hole in my heart lmao)
20:42 Listen to her heart-rate, I don't think that's just cardio, but also exhilarating from joy. This seems fun!
lol i noticed also.
Gave me massive envy! Thanks a bunch, your energy is infectious like a gnome
I was just wondering how accessible it is. My middle kiddo wants to go!!
Combat training a youngling just out of chemo, breaking their homemade weapon (not on purpose) and then making sure they had the best possible experience as i got them get hired by a king is still one of my best larp memory.
@@ahatfullofdreams The first known depiction of a wheelchair is from a gravestone in China and dated 525 CE. And since this event doesn't have much to do with actual medieval anything, I suspect you could easily get away with making it look somewhat wooden and throwing a pelt over it.
Solid video! Very informative and thorough (as much as one can be with this sort of event). Thanks for sharing your experiences!
thank you for watching!! 🫶
Ok!! I was sleeping right beside the fireplace where you were speaking with the Dragonnier X-D I..ehm..admired your patience and politeness hahaha
It was so awesome hanging out with you during Bicolline! Getting to see all of it again in the video is even better!!! I can't wait to see you again next year! -Crow
I'm so happy you liked it and we met!!!! I am thrilled you got that footage of Steve!! I was lmfao while editing it 😂
Growing up in the 70s/80s we would always just be showing up at our friends' houses unannounced. Looking back now I realize how great it was and I'm glad I got to grow up that way.
RUclips really wants me to watch Bicolline stuff huh? First Trix, now you. I mean, Im all for it XD
This video came across my RUclips feed and I clicked it thinking "wow, this is going to be awkward watching all these people play medieval times".... I got hooked, watched the entire video, and I'm checking out The Voyage North. This looks amazing! I have a new bucket list item!
OMG I LOVE THAT. So happy you enjoyed it!!
Same here… I was like..this looks interesting.
"The asmr of the Grand Battai was magical" Ah yes, the sounds of fighting and people "dying"
WOW! That sounds and looks amazing! Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed it! Thank you and glad I stumbled to your channel tonight. I've attended ren festivals in south Louisiana and south Florida and still do. This experience appears next level!
Nice for sharing so much!
🥰 Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate it!!
“Drinking tea while everyone around you is screaming, it doesn’t get better than that.” 😍
Never LARPed before, just signed up for TVN
🤯 absolutely had no idea this was a thing... and I'm here for it. Looking forward to more videos - I am super intrigued! ^_^
Crazy right!!! It’s an incredible event
GOOOOOOO
Acting like 2018 was 45 years ago 💀
Since you're in Los Angeles, I recommend researching local groups. LA has several fantastic groups like Twin Mask, Dystopia Rising, AMTGARD, and Dagorhir, and lots of weekly fighter practices that you would likely enjoy. You also mentioned Role Models - most of the background extras (and the technical advisors credited) in the film are active local LARPers from LA that also do commercials, TV shows, and other movies when they come up. I've been in several, and it's always a blast. Huzzah!
9:01 Ha! I remember this, actually. Capture Steve was my hubby’s quest, and his mug 🤣 and of course it was my hubby that greeted Meat just before he noticed Steve was gone
no way!!! haha that was one of my favorite moments!!!!
@@justlanchen now that the game is over, I’ll admit, I was the one who told Meat where Steve was, while you were sparring with Jack 😜
I was worried about combat but having a tea party with the fae and being a combat healer sounds awesome. I’d definitely love to experience this someday!
29:18 I recognize that cup! Or at least the engraving pattern. Indian brass, couldn't be more fitting though.
19:22 I may have bailed on you at the start of the merc battle, but I killed one of the guards and got the bag halfway back before being stabbed in the back by a "teammate" :(
I'm glad you were able to avenge my effort and secure the bag for the Emperor!
You have just blew my mind! I am starting to plan my trip for next years vacation already
Bicolline à St-Mathieu!! Place fantastique! I went a few times in earlier days, j'ai adoré le Bal, Trollball et la Grande Bataille!
It sounds like a lot of fun. As a guy that is raising 4 kids in working class America I'm never going to be able to go. But it looks supper cool.
The fighting thing seems to be a pretty common trend. Super excited to go next year!
Thank you so much for this video, this was great - I've been wanting to go for year now, and gotta wait a bit longer to save up, but your video solidified it for me even more, I just have to go at least once!!
I'm curious if technology isn't allowed, how can one film? Looks super fun!
I had permission!!
It was still super hard though
@@justlanchen Ahhh ok that makes sense! Thx :)
A lot of people use hidden GoPros mounted in helmets or pouch rigs that allow the lens to poke out. It's doable so long as the camera is not obvious.
Had so much fun hanging with you! Can’t wait for next year 👀 💕
I sure hope I’ll be there!!!! 🥰🥰
Looks like you had fun, we don't have LARP that big here. cheers from France!
Only the last 10 minutes.
I've never tried this but it looks really fun, thanks for sharing in an interesting way!
24:45 id love to just instead only say "SHMEBULAK!" as a Gnome xD
@@TallianAdventures in game stolen or file a police report not getting it back stolen
@@MNSweet If only it was just in game stolen! No unfortunately It was real life thief! I literally think it was a real life cutpurse! they cut pouches off of my belt while i had it hanging up.
@@TallianAdventures good to know.
@@MNSweet Ex staff here, no police there. It has been years since the St-Boniface police said they wanted to help, but since nobody call them for anything (r*pe, physical aggression, r-drug problem), they cannot do anything to help, sadly.
The duché de Bicolline prefer dealing with it the good old way, talking it out.
I miss Bico, but damn... I hate how they deal with their volunteer/employees/victims. No wonder why they had two sex offender in their management team for over 10 years.
Great video! I've never seen any of your other videos, I just randomly stumbled here after going on a binge on medieval towns and villages in France. I've seen a lot of videos on Bicolline, and I think this is one of the best I've seen so far! I've wanted to go myself for so long, but the farthest I've been from my home country is Denmark and Norway. Pretty damn far to go to Canada. Not to mention, I'm terrified of flying.
And of course, true to my username, I'd wanna go as a Ranger; a bow, two knives.. and maybe a longsword for bigger battles. Sort of a mix between an Araluen Ranger and a Ranger from Middle-Earth.
Im sooo glad i clicked on this video.. i should have listened to my friend that was inviting me to get there over 10 years ago when we were teenagers, but its never too late to go!!
It is never too late!!!
Dang, I was right there in that Ordo procession to the fort and at the skirmishes Monday. Great footage and such good times. Such a great video!
WickedKool... carefull with words of spell. Love and Appreciate you my friend 🙌💕
Great video!! I love how so many people think the Marchwardens are mercenaries! And pirates! They always think we are pirates lol! Im sad I didnt get to meet you this year! hopefully if you come next year i can say hi.
I will be back to watch this! Im in a rush. But i had to stop and drop and like because, honestly, this is the coolest title ever! Great concept 🤘 wonderful idea! Life is an adventure!!! Blessings Pal!
great vid and i'm super jealous. merci, mon ami. I'm a Canadian (Nova Scotia) and I've wanted to go to Bicolline for years. Joining a combat guild/house sounds exciting and exhausting
We don't have anything approaching this in the UK. We are too reserved and we observe rather than participate. It looks like great fun. Thanks for the video.
You really do!! Look up Empire larp
so happy you liked it 🥰
Empire larp, Lorien trust, Menhirs fate… I can only dream of the larps you have access to in the UK. Go listen to the Larp Noobs podcast.
@@AdamMclardy I never knew that existed. Thanks.
Great stuff! Got me thinking that "The Elder Scrolls" LARP would be cool 🖤
Girl you got me hooked .I am surprised a beautiful young lady all the way from LA shows up in my backyard.I live in Montreal the same city where you landed at the airport and where you shopped at les Artisan d’azure.I have been reenacting mostly WW2 German but I also have Mongolian Conquest era garb full set and also Knight Templar. I believe I will try to attend a few events thanks to you.
Great video! I feel like there’s a certain cringe factor that keeps people (including me) from participating in something like this. What advice would you have for us?
This looks amazing! I'm not even into larp. Great video thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I don’t live anywhere close to this event so I will enjoy from afar while roaming Skyrim! Thanks for the video!
Great video! Bicolline is definitely on the list to get to!
you won't regret it!!!
That skirmish is honestly top 3 highlights of bico for me! 😆😆😆
Yall killed it that was wild
same! it was a highlight of my life
As an American with Quebecois ancestry, this is really interesting to me.
Totally sold me, I’m wanting to go next year with my wife, thanks for the great video:)
I play fantasy tabletop with my friends, but i love videoes like this :) This place looks amazing
20:45 I CAN HEAR YOUR HEART BEAT LOL
Hah we were behind you on the bus ride :p Glad you had a great time at bico
I tried to watch this and listen while at work... did I miss the part where you told us if you kept Steve the whole time or not?? LoL
Haha yes he stole Steve back
So it's kind of like playing D & D while attending a Renaissance fair at the same time. I can see where some might find it appealing.
"Jviens deeeee terrebonne" is so Québecois. Its always refreshing to hear my accent in video I wouldn't expect. although I knew of bicoline, I didn't want to assume on the get-go that the french part would be shown :3
Thank you for showing it btw!
29:30 - Good point; if you attend, it's recommended to bring your own drinking vessel. The general store has some, but they're kind of pricey.
Her friend started the Great Pirate Wars 💀
Hehe, you're the second person I've seen post a video about this event.. The other one, I can't remember her name (only saw it yesterday) but she came from Florida. had fox ears on, was called Trix in-game. Edit: Her name is Jess Less
How cool!!! Yes, I’d absolutely attend if I could! Looks like a ton of fun!
Well I am so glad to have stumbled upon this! 😁 You have sold me on this. I will be sourcing and making my costumes over the winter. I shall make it here
if there were no phones and technology allowed how do you charge your camera? Or is it allowed in the tents? I kinda missed that in your video. Can you charge your electronic devices in your tent?
Marchwardens are the best! :D 10/10 best guild, not at all biased cuz I'm a warden or anything 😜
Great video. Saw you and yours being amazing, tho long week and full schedule prevented me from visiting all parts of your group this year.
Hard to believe it was your first larp based on your fighting in the video!
If you return come visit your neighbors, and play in 'Duel Alley' if you want to test your fighting prowess! :)
-your neighbors, GenAsher Fells, Lys Noir.
Great job on your video showing Bico, how to get involved, and how accessible that game can be. Kudos.
The skirmish was clutch. Hearing your heart beat was showing your excitement and adrenaline rush.
RIGHT. main character moment for me
Our little camp @ 5min05.
It was amazing!
Thank you.
It's crazy how this place grew up overtime, I'm Québécois and people used to make fun of that place but it really became a big thing it seems
This definitely makes me interested in larping and Checking out this event!
You should!!
That looks absolutely awesome. Just out of curiosity, how did you do the filming? I saw kiki cool mossy phone stick camouflage. Did you do something similar or where you just sneaky?
In another comment she said she got permission
How did you film if technology is banned?
Knight from Middle ages time travels to now. says "You guys do this for fun?"
What a fun video. If I didn't have such bad social anxiety this would sell me.
I'm sold! Told my daughter she's going next year and she should get her affairs in order!
Amazing video! If you liked the experience and liked French if you have the chance to go there is a castle in france rebuilt with only medieval techniques it’s amazing
Just wondering if there's no technology how do you have the footage of the event or is camera allow?
Love the IRL gank squad tactics working.
