    I've seen a theory that the Disney era took more risks because Disney were less overprotective of the brand.

    • @TheDatabaseNetwork
      @TheDatabaseNetwork Год назад +7

      Agree. Sure Disney may have not cared about Power Rangers when they bought it, which is weird. But a lot of Seasons, especially Dino Thunder, SPD, and RPM, delivered the best storyline a Power Rangers show can offer. SPD and Dino Thunder being my favourite Power Rangers because of it. It pushes the limits on what kind of story it wanted to tell with the right tone and feel in mind.

    • @quanglk5331

      @@TheDatabaseNetwork Disney not cared about PR by cutting the budget for the seasons due to PR being so "violence" for kids and not fitting with Disney's target audience. While cutting the budget is still bad, Disney let the writers do whatever they want and therefore having some of the most creative PR seasons ever. Whereas Saban just want their seasons to follow the MMPR formula, and we all know how that went .........

  • @kennydarmawan13
    @kennydarmawan13 Год назад +3

    The best way to describe this is:
    Very uncommitted to everything they set out to do. They want to be new, yet relied on Mighty Morphin' nostalgia. They want the MMPR nostalgia, yet balk at the deeper stuff.
    When Hasbro owned the franchise, man, everything is a step up. Just Venjix returning alone is already amazing, even if it's tacked on.
    Also, I don't believe Ninja Steel was atrocious. It was okay, which is a negative in a way. And it doesn't have a botched idiotic ending unlike other shows at the time (Game of Thrones, Voltron: Legendary Defender).

    Each of the Neo Saban era seasons tried so hard to be more family friendly, more darker and mature as the Post-Zordon Era seasons RPM and In Space
    But it ends up being light-hearted and kid friendly
    Even Zeo, In Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, Wild Force, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, S.P.D. and RPM had a few Light-hearted moments

    Oh brother the Neo Saban era, ok I grew up with the first 4 seasons of this era, hell samurai was what introduced me to toku as a whole, but that’s not gonna save what I’m about to say.
    Samurai/SuperSamurai- my nostalgia for this season is all that’s keeping this season out of F tier, especially considering its sentai is my favorite toku ever.
    Megaforce/Super Megaforce- my nostalgia for this season is the opposite in that it doesn’t keep it out of F tier, but it’s still not my least favorite season, that I said last time.
    Dino Charge/ Dino Supercharge- the first season is my favorite season of PR, it’s one I had the most fun watching, I loved the characters, the villains, pretty much everything about it. The second season I think is good but it’s brought down by some lack luster characters that are introduced too late and that ending.
    Ninja Steel/Super Ninja Steel- probably my 2nd least favorite, god this show is so terrible. Bad acting, bad story, bad characters, bad villains, gosh this season was bad.
    Despite this era having my favorite season of PR and the season that introduced me to toku, this era was such a massive mistake and it feels like they were high for pretty much every season minus Dino Charge.

    • @ricardooliveira562

      I can feel you, this era was the one that introduce me to pr too ( Dino Charge being the first season I've watched and still one of my favorites to this day) but good gosh, it feels like they didn't even try to make something somewhat decent in this abomination of Era (except for Dino (Super) Charge).

      Samurai/Super Samurai: it’s my guilty pleasure because nostalgia and the fact that I get a kick out of screaming at the characters cause of their awful acting.
      Megaforce/Super Megaforce: Same reasons but I feel sorry for the cast with the awful writing
      Dino charge is fantastic, period. Super charge could’ve been great, but the writing dragged it down.
      Ninja steel and Super Ninja steel can go burn in a trash fire.😊

      First time I've seen someone rated Dino Charge so highly. I like it alot, but I think it looks better in comparison to a pile shit, compared to the actual good seasons of PR, it's better than seasons like Mystic Force, but not in the realms of In Space, RPM, Lost Galaxy Jungle Fury, etc. But still really good.

  • @michaelestival9875
    @michaelestival9875 2 года назад +9

    Everyone here has EXACTLY the same energy level as the people making most of these shows. Yeah, this is easily the worst era, in my opinion. And...not really that much shorter than the others, since all these shows were stretched out to 2 years. It went for about 7 years, almost 8. Forcing in a comedy duo in ALL these shows did really hurt things. And...they're still doing it (lets have a episode where the robot girl turns into a cat, why not? ...Although, the rest of that episode is actually pretty alright.). And, yeah, there is a little bit of Henry Danger or Sam and Cat in ALL of these seasons DNA, due to being on NIck. (Wait, is Henry Danger technically toku? Now, there's a April Fool's video! Review that!)
    Samuari: I know you've defended this as so-bad-it's-good in the past, but I just thought it was kind of dull. I know people point to Super Megaforce as the most disappointing season (and...they're not wrong), but there was a short time there when it looked like Power Rangers might be gone for good. And...then we get this. And I STILL kind of hate the twist with the sister at the end. I know that's in the Sentai, and it works BETTER there, but I just don't love it in any version of this show. Grade: D-
    Megaforce: This is going to destroy ANY credibility I have...but I actually think Super Megaforce is a improvement over vanilla-Megaforce. I know it's probably the MOST disappointing, dropped ball, potential-wasting season in Power Rangers...but it was still kind of fun to see the old suits again. I'm easy like that. And...I did feel they TRIED with some of the cameos throughout the season. And the Legendary Battle Extended Edition was actually kind of fun. I just...don't think whitebread-Megaforce has anything as memorable as some of that stuff. It's still not GREAT, though. Grade: D
    Dino Charge: If my opinion on Megaforce didn't ruin my credibility, this sure will. I...don't love this season as much as everyone else seems to. The Rangers are super fun, charming, and charismatic. But...the villains are basically S3 MMPR Zedd and Rita. Which is more fun than the forgettable stuff we got in the past two seasons, but I still didn't love it. Heckyl was a good villain, or at least almost was, so...that's half a good villain or so. And there really wasn't much of a plot throughout the season. And then there's that weird ending. The Rangers being as likeable as they are is really the only saving grace. (I love you tricera-lots...). Grade: B
    Ninja Steel: I'm with Jacob, this is the WORST season of Power Rangers, ever. Two words: "Victor" and "Monty". Having entire episodes revolving around their farts in a can...uuuugggh. One of the worst Dads in Power Rangers who just disappears. That weird fake-out with the robot version of Red's brother.
    Having two of the rangers be a couple throughout the entire season was kind of cute....up until the finale, where the girl kind of turns into a jerk for no good reason (although...teenagers, I guess *shrug*). The dog was kind of cute...but the principle was probably right and they shouldn't be bringing the dog to school, anyway. And Mick was...better than any of the Rangers, but kind of a odd mentor. He really did try to have the rangers come to their own conclusions about things, which is actually pretty good. I felt they were leading up to something bigger with him, though.
    And, oh my goodness, there's Pink, Sarah. She is legitimately a super-villain in the making. If she's in a competition, she'll cheat. If she gets overworked, she'll start the clone wars. If she sees her mother finding love again, she'll try to split them up. I'm convinced that if she wasn't a Power Ranger, she would have been a supervillain in another few years. SHE should have been the final villain of the season.
    This is the season that made me question why I was still watching Power Rangers. I might dislike the other seasons in Neo-Saban, but this is the only season I actively HATE. Thank goodness for Beast Morphers. Grade: F
    And...y'know what? I'm going to talk about the Hasbro seasons, too. Why not? It'll be another 5 to 10 years otherwise.
    Beast Morphers: I actually really liked this season. It didn't always go the way I expected it to, like I thought Devon and his Dad were going to be more like something from Time Force at first. But what we got was honestly kind of heart-warming. Blaze and Roxy were actually surprisingly competent villains. Evox was actually kind of threatening. Steel and Nate had some good chemistry. Ben and Betty are the best comedy duo we've gotten yet...in the first season, where they kind of "fail up" anyway. I liked how they're screw ups actually had some sort of benefit in the first half of the show...which they completely dropped in the second half, but...still the most likeable duo we've gotten so far. And even the anniversary stuff, I think, was handled in kind of a fun way, even though it was pretty clear they had a pretty tight budget. And...FORESHADOWING! Steel's construction, Nate and Zoey's relationship, Evox's true identity. Say what you will about the show, but it TRIED to plan things out in advance, which is something we haven't gotten to see much of in Neo-Saban. I think this is a highlight. REally, the biggest problems this show had was plot points getting spoiled ahead of time and stretching the show out for two years, which is really more the fault of the network. Grade: A-
    Dino Fury: I'm...not liking this as much as Beast Morphers, yet. Zayto is definitely the best character so far. And...Izzy is the worst (she yells at a special needs girl...then gets a Olympic medal for it...my goodness). Void Knight is basically Mr Freeze, so he's got a unique motivation for a Power Rangers villain...I'm kind of wondering who the REAL villain will be for the second half, though. Mucus is kind of cute, if dopey. And some of the cameos and references, like the Morphin Masters and Mick...I"m not sure where they're going with it. We're not too far in yet, but for right now, it's not grabbing me as much as Beast Morphers did. Grade (so far): C

The protagonist finally isn't super annoying. The villains can be funny, but serious as well. Zenkaiger is amazing.

    Oh man, this was unfortunately the era I grew up with and god damn could do I wish it wasn't...
    Samurai - I do have to admit, this is my favorite season of Power Rangers despite all of its problems, yes a lot of it's due to nostalgia + my love for Shinkenger, but looking at it now with the mindset and "wisdom" I have now, if put in the right hands I think it could've been amazing even with how Japanese the Sentai was, and there are worse seasons even taking the other Neo Saban seasons aside
    Megaforce - I also watched this season as a kid, however nostalgia doesn't save it, I thought Megaforce was dogshit even as a child,. Back then I didn't hate or have criticism for any season of Power Rangers, including Turbo and Operation Overdrive, I didn't hate those seasons until much later in life. You guys pretty much explained everything I could say in the In Comparisons, but this season truly deserves to be one of the most hated Tokusatsu shows of all time
    Dino Charge - Originally I didn't like Dino Charge that much when it first aired (though after being soured by least season can you blame me?), however now I absolutely agree with the masses in saying this is the best of the era, I still don't like it as much as everyone else, but this and Beast Morphers were the only good seasons we've gotten this past decade.
    Ninja Steel - ......oh fucking christ, Ninja Steel is easily my least favorite Toku Show ever, even with all the bad Rider, Sentai, Ultra, and other Toku shows I've watched, I never hated any of them as much as Ninja Steel, literally everything they could've done wrong, they did it in the absolute worst way possible. At least Megaforce was memorable and fun to hate at times, Ninja Steel however is a burning trainwreck that I couldn't have anymore dread for.

But that show was airing on the wrong network (The CW) on a Saturday Morning Block (The CW 4Kids), airing at a time where Saturday morning blocks were a dying because of the rise of streaming (2009), got little airtime and exposure for it to even have an audience, and barely anyway of getting clean quality footage online to watch the show.

    Yeah I was kind of wondering why like wildly attractive women including people like Becky G showed up in Power Rangers in Neo Saban.
    As far as my history with PR is concerned I effectively gave up on it at around Jungle Fury which imo was the weakest Power Rangers has ever been or just Sentai had ever been up until that point. Granted I was maybe a year into college so that had a lot to do with it but if we were still getting stuff like DinoThunder SPD or EVEN Mystic Force I'd have tuned in. And for the most part I still tried to catch JF. Parts of its storyline was actually good. The same for RPM even though as a whole I just didn't like the Magic A that version of PR had to offer.
    Then we get Samurai. And I'll be honest nothing about Neo Saban era power rangers is exciting or memorable. I thought they just hired bad actors but from this review I came to revelation that they didn't really hire actors at all. I was wondering why ever thing felt so hokey. Why a series adaptation that was clearly rooted in Japanese culture had like the whitest Justin Bieber stunt double I'd ever seen.
    Though I skipped out on most of the era I still caught bits and pieces and it may only be thanks to my love of Shinkenger and Samurai culture - I'm a kendoka - that I kind of gave it a pass. Samurai are trope-ishly hokey and stiff. So the lameness sort of work. Lines like Rangers Together, Samurai forever or Samurai Rangers...Victory is ours. That works for a samurai. The only thing I loathed about Shinkenger is it contains by far the ugliest megazords in terms of combinations with the Samurai Gigazord being an absolute bulky eyesore. Bandai was just spending a little too long in the kitchen on the zords for this one.
    But again that doesn't make up for PR Samurai overall just being garbage despite loving the overall premise of the samurai aesthetic. And it just got worse and worse.
