Beautiful birds, I have a question for you I’m a big fan and I purchased 2 of yours books on Amazon. I have come across a friend who has a hyacinth macaw and the price sounds great for a 6 yr old bird. Unfortunately no medical records with this bird ! Should I buy this bird ? I met the bird and this gentle giant took to me immediately stepped up and didn’t want to go back to his owner in fact the bird bit him. What would u do? Thanks
Hello - thank you for buying some of my books and watching my vids! Tough one. No matter what, a Hyacinth is expensive. So, it’s a tough decision. If I wanted to get the bird, I’d check their health as best I can. I talk about this in some of my books and videos. Check the keel bone, is the bird fat, thin or a healthy weight. Check eyes, nares and mouth for discharge (vent too). Check vibrancy of the wings. Don’t know what guarantee you may or may not have (I don’t like to guarantee birds once they leave my care because I have no control over what the bird will eat, drink, be exposed to…) or how much you are paying. Keep me updated. I do love Macaws and Hyacinths are spectacular.

It’s all relative. They can be loud. Happy birds in general, aren’t as loud. Hahn’s too.
