  • I think people quickly and easily fall in love with Indian Ringnecks. No doubt, they are gorgous!
    However, people see videos of sweeter and more affectionate parrots, like my title slide, and think that an IRN will be the same. But, they are not!
    It's always importatn to research each species of parrot you are thinking of getting because they have very different personality characterisitics-
    In this video I talk about what I think are the 3 things you must know before you get an IRN-

    I think my Indian Ringneck is a major exception to most peoples experience with Indian Ringneck’s, he is so bonded to me to the point he wants to feed me( very much discouraged and no longer does) and follows me everywhere, sleeps on me, gives me kisses, comes when called, will eat from my hand/palm, I can also pat him and give him kisses I can also preen him and do his nails. He’s so bonded to me that I think he would get aggressive towards other Birds and he doesn’t appear to be interested in other Birds. Thoughts on that?

      My Ringneck Floyd wants to eat what I am eating. He sways side to side and bounces up and down. He gives me kisses and wants to be on me. My Superb Parrot I have had just 1 month and he is kind of scared. He is just starting to explore a little. My Ringneck likes my Superb and has started to mimic one of his sounds, but my Superb Gem tolerates my ringneck and will only let him get so close. It will take time, which is fine as long as they can hang in the same room.

I will continue to be patient with them. They no longer scream at us when we go by them. They live in our lives area wake up with the sun take a nap then make some noise take a nap then make noise during the evening. I do separate the smaller of the 2 males when we aren't home. We live in an apartment near the street and can barely hear them with the door closed. Our neighbors have young children crying at all hour and have not complained to us about the noise.

    Hi! I have a male cobalt Indian Ringneck, and Piper is Awesome! I got him as a baby and while he was still on formula and before I brought him home, I visited him and held him just about every other day. I wanted him to get used to my voice and my smell and I just wanted to bond with him as early as possible. I knew that I wanted to have a very close relationship with him...thus knew I was going to have to put in the time and effort. I have him in an area of my home where he gets lots of interaction. I leave him out most of the day...especially when I'm home. I have 2 green cheek conures (both boys - Lolli & Luna) and they love each other like brothers - though they are not biologically brothers. Lolli would be close to me if I didn't get Luna. Once I got Luna...it all changed. But they have each other and they fly around and play and life is great. As for Piper! He is wonderful and we do a lot together. I take him outside when the weather is warm and we go for drives to the Bird Store (Family Owned Exotic Bird Store) and we spend time with other birds and people. He started talking at the beginning of October and the phrases and whistles are only increasing by the day. Piper was born 2/2/2-23...so he's only like 10-1/2 months old. I absolutely love him. As Parrot Bliss mentioned in her video...they are independent. However, that said...when Piper sees me? He wants me. He makes it known that he doesn't want me to leave the room or put him anywhere but with me. So, I think it's just a matter of how much time and effort you put into your bird. Keep in mind...the more birds you have the less time you will have to dedicate to any one bird...trust me... I have 13 birds (10 parakeets). But having more than one is really great because they love being and living around more birds...they feel safe and comfortable with all the birds chattering. Happy Birding!!! Linda 🐦

      Very well said about the bonding, about having more birds and what a great post, Linda. Thank you for taking the time, I enjoyed it. Piper sounds wonderful. My male, Jules, is friendly, but I adopted him too late at around 6 to 8 months. The early months after weaning are crucial. Still, he's much nicer than our hen, Milo, and we love hearing him mimic our other birds.
      Happy Holidays!

    @ronpettitt6184 Год назад +5

    I disagree with your comments about IRNs not bonding. It has to do with time you have with them. IMO owning dozens of birds isn't going to allow for the same kind of bonding with any bird. IRNs are certainly different and require much work to achieve true tameness and bonding but it can and does happen if you want it to. The bluffing period is difficult but if you work through that, you can achieve a close bond.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Год назад +1

      People see videos of IRN being cute, sweet, fun. Before getting one, it is beneficial to understand that is not typical; they do not bond the way other species, like conures, do. Unfortunately, not everyone is willing to put the time in that you have. Kudos

    • @AmandaMG6
      @AmandaMG6 8 месяцев назад

      Agree. I have a super strong bond with mine. That said, if work gets hectic and I don't see him much for a few days the bond suffers and I have to earn it back again

  • @subarusown
    @subarusown 10 месяцев назад +2

    Umm maybe mines a bit different... My female IRN is very affectionate she’s bluffing right now but still IS affectionate. She would rather spend time with me versus on her own. If i leave the room she’ll scream for me until i come back. However I am retired and I spend most of my time with her. She wants to be on me all of the time….

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  9 месяцев назад +1

      How old is your Indian Ringneck? Yes, there’s no accounting for different personalities. However, typically hens are the more aggressive in this matriarchal species. My boy is much sweeter and friendly with other creatures than her.

  • @harleyinred

  • @CFAshow5359

    This is so true. Even though it’s better for most birds to have a relatively hands off relationship with their caretakers, the Asiatic species take that to the max. The Aussie grass parrots are like this too (princess parrots, superb parrots, Australian king parrots, etc). None of these species allopreen so they don’t like touch at all. ALL touch to IRNs is considered sexual, even if you’re just petting the bird on the head. Under these types of informative videos will always be people talking about the exceptions and how “cuddly” their IRN is, but in reality the IRN is either tolerating the affection or has an inappropriate sexual pair bond with the owner. Another thing that is super important to mention about IRNs is that there is NO such thing as the bluffing phase. This myth that birds go through a hormonal bite-y phase before they get better has to be responsible for people purchasing birds with the hope that their bird will eventually want to be handled after this “phase” only to rehome their parrot when this never happens. Research on the particular species is so important, as there is a wealth of misinformation out there. Conures are kinda weird…they’re very touch oriented and are perhaps the only parrot I’d consider naturally “cuddly”…MAYBE macaws

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  11 месяцев назад +3

      Enjoyed reading your post -- yes! They don't like to be handled, and it is not a phase. My mentor says that females, in particular, should be in aviaries. I agree. My male is far more friendly, and he comes to us--- BUT we are NOT allowed to touch him! It's easy for me to see the difference because I have an IRN next to a Conure. Yes, Conures are on the other end of the spectrum. They get mad when we ask them to leave our shoulder and they expect more affection.
      Amazons, Cockatoos, Quakers and Caiques, off the top of my head, are also cuddly, but not as much as Conures. Thanks for posting, I love when people know! Feels good to hear because IRN are popular, but I don't know if people know what they are getting into.

    Are there any positives to adding a bird of a different species in to keep your single bird company when you’re gone? I’ve heard from other keepers that certain birds have became more misbehaving when paired or grouped with the same species for company.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Год назад +1

    I am sorry but you can form a strong bond with an indian ringneck.. I am my bird's whole life.. he/she calls for me all the time, wants cuddles..
    It all depends on how you raise him/her and how much time you spend with your birds.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  6 месяцев назад

      That is wonderful and I'm not surprised.
      However, unless you have experienced many, many IRN, you may not realize that it is not uncommon for them to not bond. Yes, some is how they are raised, of course. However, this does not override their nature.
      A lot of people have your experience - and there are people who do not. They have a bird that isn't affectionate- especially females. My mission is to make sure that someone looking to get an IRN understands their nature and what their parrot may be like.
      I hand-fed and spent time with mine. She's typical, not warm and affectionate. My male is more so, much more.
      I don't want to see or think of IRN that are ignored and left in their cage because they are not affectionate- punished for their nature simply because we, as people, see a loving IRN online and then expect this, not knowing that it is not necessarily "normal."
      Hope that explains- but I am thrilled to hear that you are having a great experience. I think it is beneficial for you and your bird. Nothing better!

    Hello, i have a female IRN, and had her for a couple months, i believe she's almost a year old now, about 10-11 months. Im wondering on your thoughts of her being a solo ringneck in our household. We have a green cheek conure and a budgie. Im often being told theres too high of a risk of her having health issues or possibly ending up eggbound if she never has a male partner. We originally were looking for a male but got her instead. But it would be extremely upsetting if she ever started having issues and was laying eggs solo. Otherwise if we did consider getting a male down the line as well, the people who sold me her said there would be a high risk i would lose my bond with her.
