Birds are loud. People need to know things like they bite and they are loud and I love them. If people that sell them were honest that would save a lot of birds from having to be rescued and re-homed.
That is very true. I have heard breeders say that they don't bite and are quiet but in reality throughout the birds life it will bite for various reasons and scream.
I heard a breeder one time at a show tell a customer that Sun Conure's make good apartment birds. My mouth fell open. That is why birds end up plucking and in rescues.
How horrible! Just to make a sale and the bird suffers in the end. That's why anyone should research to see what bird is for them. Some people believe what breeders say because they assume they know their breed, some breeders that are good of course tell people but others trying to make a buck won't say anything negative about the bird.
So true. A friend of mine has some birds and I make snuggle tubes I make and any bird she has is so loved. We rostered and I have my 20 year old Amazon name Elliot I am so glad I found your channel. What a treat, thank you.
Elliot is a cute name.
13:12 I also have a female IRN (light blue). Every morning I open the shutters to wake her up, open the cage then go cook the breakfast. And when I am cooking, she screams non-stop until I bring her the food... And it better be a tasty meal, or she won't stop screaming until she get something she likes ! Such a spoiled baby... I love her
Dame Esil what do Indian ring neck eats?
@@jhonlee4458 they usually eat a lot of fruits, seeds and nuts in the wild but they can eat the same in captivity, along with other man-made foods like pellets.
Are females like this because of the male bringing them food, or because she sees you as "mom"?
She sees me as her mate.
@@Loveofpets
Ok. That also happens with other breeds of birds. Does she only display with you?
Ring necks are so odd.
They dont look like any other bird
They dont sound like any other bird
And they dont act like any other bird
They look like a plastic toy, they are so smooth. And they have this very animated way of moving around. Then there is that high pitched voice that sounds like trying to talk wmusing a squeak toy..
What ARE ring necks? They are so unique!
I think you are wrong the are so beautiful and cute
😈 Don't spread wrong information about this cute birds
@@nancypatil3895 Chill out. They were just stating they were unique, different from other birds. Being unique is beautiful as well!
So true. Ringnecks really are unique, they remind me of prehistoric birds 😝
@@nancypatil3895 he or she never said they weren't beautiful.
I have one of these, and boy do they have a personality. They actually just want affection when they tilt their heads back. Though the video says not to encourage it, you also don't want to neglect affection from a very affectionate bird. You just have to learn its behavior by watching it and think logicallly what he/she needs. In my case, she.
A very great pet.
Why do they say not to encourage it?
@@Mama-Mango I don't know bc mine got along well.
Thank you so much for your honesty in this video. I was thinking about getting a ringneck, they are so pretty & smart. But I’m 74 yrs. old on a limited income. All I saw in this in video was $ signs. Plus I doubt I would live long enough to take care of a bird like this. I live in a small apartment, with no room for very large or multiple cages. I am so grateful I came across your video. It was the reality check I needed. Again, thank you and best of luck to you and your feathered & 4 legged friends!
Your welcome. A budgie or canary may fit into your lifestyle or you can consider adopting an older bird. Ringnecks however are too loud for an apartment. I am glad to hear my video helped you in choosing a pet bird.
Beautiful parrot, unfortunately we cannot pet them in India as its illegal to cage Indian birds. Theres a huge flock near my house.
Yup! Ringneck parrots are illegal to keep as pets in India. but it is legal to keep most mutations as pets except Green mutations ( wild type )
Yes!! It's a sad thing that it's illegal to cage parrots in INDIA!!
I am glad its illegal , your country has done an intelligent action , i love birds and have an alexandrine , i love her , she loves me , and if i thought she would survive in the wild and find a mate i would let her go.
After owning an Indian ring neck , and now an alexandrine , i have become so close and studied birds so much , i now believe humans should never have caged birds.
I tears me apart when she shows her natural desire to breed. Its uncontrollable , birds should always live in flocks with 30 - 40 other friends , screaming , playing , and having little birds.
If we showed them nothing but respect and caring , wild birds would not be so wild. They would actually interact with us . But over the last few hundred years we have shot them for fun , to stop nesting , to keep away from crops , and some people simply dislike them.
When people first arrived in NZ birds walked right up to them. The birds reward for being friendly and interactive was death , or imprisonment in a cage.
New Zealand was the land of the birds , before humans discovered their fantastic wilderness
Cheers from New Zealand Grant
@@sharathyadav954 Are you sure colour mutations are legal to keep?
@@Indusxstan Yes, you can keep any colour mutations like lutino, gray, blue etc. Except green( Indian ringneck) one. But they're expensive & hard to find the breeders.
I live to the west of London, England, we have lots of wild Indian Ring Necks here, the green variety. I first noticed them visit our garden about seventeen years ago, but they have been in this country a lot longer than that. Nobody knows how they got here, but once they did they proliferated. They originally had no natural predators but I'm told some have fallen victim to sparrowhawks and other similar birds of prey. They are beautiful but without doubt the loudest birds I have ever encountered.
the are actually AFRICAN Ringnecks
Oh wow I lived in England and seen plenty Indian ringnecks especially the green ones
Since Indian ringnecks were popular pets a lot were exported, they have been described as pets in the Roman empire. So it is believed pets that were taken to England probably from back when India was an imperial colony escaped and established a thriving feral population. Since they're very intelligent they fare well in cities, they feed on human scarps and fruits and seeds in urban areas and use tall buildings as nesting sites.
@@janschommer5428 the ones in UK are feral Indian ringnecks.
Went to Kew Gardens earlier last year, and there was a wild flock there too. I kept thinking I was hearing things when I heard what sounded like a bunch of parrots in the ground's trees, 'till I saw some flying around. Was definitely an unexpected surprise.
OMG her displaying is ADORABLE!!!!! What a lovely baby!!,!
Rio displaying courtship behavior and likes being around you and doesnt like men? Sounds like Rio has a bit of a girl crush! How cute.
They like higher voices
I had one when I was a Kid for almost 12 years, then It suddenly died. I was so sad....I still miss him. This bird is amazing, you are lucky she really loves you......
I want to get my Daughter a Blue Ringneck..
Get a baby ringneck so the can learn to talk
@@nancypatil3895 Getting a baby ringneck doesn't mean they'll talk.
@@miadost8236 If trained properly they can .
@@nancypatil3895 Absolutely not. They'll either talk or they won't. You cannot "train" a bird to talk. If you've had success in the past, it's because those birds wanted to talk, not because they were trained. Don't spread lies.
Mustiboi Salman where do u get them from
I had a blue ring neck in high school named poppy. She was beautiful and so smart and sweet. I taught her tricks, she would say “Oh wow!!” And “oh goodness!!” And “Heyyyy buddy” I lived with my granny and she always said oh goodness or oh my goodness lol
Had her 4 years, went away for a weekend and my granny put her outside in the cage and cats got her 😭😭😭😭
This was 15 years ago and I still miss her 😞😞😞😞
I don’t think I have seen such a wonderful pair of parrot and owner. I don’t know who is luckier, pet or owner🥰😍 Their calm affection and faith/understanding for each other is unmistakable. You are a fantastic example of the hobby. Many thanks for sharing your insights 💐
Hope you enjoy my video on the Ringneck Parakeet. Do you own a Ringneck or want to own one?
Come and meet all my pets here ruclips.net/video/08eCyiWhoeU/видео.html
Nice video. My sister owns one but male, i would love to own one but female. Beautiful and intelligent bird.
I'm getting one next month once hes weaned. Thank you for the information!
I have a 5 month old green boy name Kirby
Betsy Green Kirby is a nice name for a Green IRN. 😃
I do have a female any tips for the screaming!! ??
I had a Blue and Gold Macaw years ago . These birds are new to me . They’re so beautiful .
I have a male Indian Ringneck! I love him so much!💕💕 He is around 2 years and 3 months! He is a talker and loves to give kisses! Indian Ringneck make great pets!
I love ring necks, they’re my dream bird. So much personality in such a small creature.
Here in Honolulu, we're starting to get these birds. The green colors. 2 years ago I started to notice them. They're very beautiful and I've been seeing them occasionally. They also show up times when I need an encouragement during my day. :)
Such a beautiful bird. We had Olives when I was growing up.
What a wonderful relationship you have with your Indian Ringneck!
Aw! She really loves her mama! That's so sweet. Thank you for the video!
I just got 2 baby ones i love watching you video and learning more so i can take good care off them ❤️
Thank you for sharing i have a baby indian ringneck. And this is the exact video i was looking for. Very informative
I love these pretty birdies! ❤️😻🦜 💕
Absolutely precious!
I don't own a ringneck, but I enjoy the wild ones that visit my garden. And I enjoyed your video! Rio truly loves you and even if you don't encourage her display behaviour it's so hwartwarming to see such a relationship between human and bird!
You are lucky to see them in the wild. Thanks for watching and Rio does love me so much.
I have one that we adopted from an elderly and unprepared pet shop purchaser, and although they don't live where I live they do live in London where I work, so I tell people in London who ask about my birds that he is one of the green parrots that wake them up in the morning. The wild ones in London are more hand tame than mine was when we first got him, they land and eat on you in the parks. I think he was probably raised in an avery and first handled by being grabbed out of it to be taken to the pet shop. Now he is affectionate but still hands are the one thing that he wants to initiate contact with, not have approaching him. The wild ones have no fear of hands.
I wish 'my' parakeets were as tame as the ones in central London! They wer more tolerant to me in summer, when they were desperate to feed their babies. But now they fly away as soon as I open the door to my garden. It's a time of abundance, when many trees have fruited, so they don't need us so much. You could say that London is a giant aviary with plenty of food! :-)
That is so cool
Why is it bad to encourage them to display?
When I was growing up we had two aviaries with several ringneck's. We had two pairs which was very sweet and three others who were "single". I absoloutely love walking inside the big aviaries with them as they flew around.
What a blessed life!
What a cutie. I love my ringnecks. I have a boy and a girl that I adopted and they needed special care for a few years. Hippo and Peeps have really come along way and are somewhat friendly.
Loveyourparrot Education hi how are you. Can you tell me where I can adopt one . If you can tell me where you went to get them. I’m in NYC but let me know where
I am not sure. Google on the internet for bird rescues or in the animal pounds in your area.
beyond educational!amazing job! I am convinced I want this species of bird. they have a gorgeous color and they seem like they have genuine personalities.
I have a green check conure. He’s a cute bird. His favorite words are “yes” and “come here” lol. Silly bird.
She is truly adorable.❤
They are such beautiful birds!
She is absolutely adorable!!!!
Thank you so much for all of the great information on ringnecks. I want one so badly!
We had a beautiful green girl called Ziggy...she used to do that crazy/cute neck curled back affection display....just had flash back of it tonight...shes not here any more but we had many years of joyfulness with her... thanks for informative video
It's great that you care enough to educate others.
What a beautiful bird! 😍 Loved all the information you've given. I've never been interested in owning one, but I still find them to be pretty with their pastel blue color.
I live in England and there are millions of them here in the wild l live in West Yorkshire, near Leeds. I get lots of them in my garden. And the odd love bird too.
This video was super helpful because I have a blue IRN who got out of her cage and explored the area for four days before eventually coming to someone for help who returned her to me. Since getting her home, she’s showing a lot of different behaviours than she did before like the displaying. I’d never seen it before so I was searching the internet for an explanation for what she was doing. She does it when I pat her on her head
She's beautiful! Some good points shared too.
Beautiful bird! Thank you for sharing this great information with us! I’d love to have a pet bird one day when I have my own home.
I have a male Indian ringneck. Charlie is 4 years old. I've had him for 2 years. I would love to find him a mate because I worry he thinks I'm his mate. He's with a cockatiel and a green cheek conure. All are in separate cages but close together so they can talk. I also have a breeding pair of parakeets, but they are in a different room. They have 3 eggs and this is our first time! Very excited!
The female display is so beautiful! She's so cute when she's displaying. I want a ringneck so bad, but I don't think my current neighborhood would be okay with it. I really love your videos, I've learned so much about birds from them. I'm getting my first cockatiel today!
I really love how you care for your beautiful parrot, my compliments
I love her display, she’s so sweet.
My parrot is a ringneck and I have a few storys. First I was eating fruit and i had a carten of blueberrys on my bed i was out of my room for 7 seconds to get water and came back to see blueberrys EVERYWHERE XD I was dying of laughter and pain. Second my Ringneck Luna was watching a video with me (Don't say a word!) and i said "Hey Luna! Give me a kiss!" and she replied with a cat call (a wissel) I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO WISSEL AND NAVER WILL I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE SHE LEARN THAT!
Wtf. 😂😂😂😂😂
That's a cute way of spelling whistle 😁 ... I like it 😂
Lol, tell her Ashley says hey.
That display is super cute!
You mean backround?
I love the way you are caring for her 💕
I Love Indian Ringnecks, thank you for sharing Rio.. what a sweet video with good information
Rio you were such a beautiful girl. We will miss you. RIP. ❤❤🇨🇦

@@Loveofpets I saw that video.. so sorry for your loss.. 😢😢😢
were?
Awwwe so sweet.
Omgosh I never had so much information about Indian my native parrot. Tqsm dear God bless Jay shree Ram
Aww she was showing her love to the owner
Rio is such a lovely bird. That was hilarious when you described that an IRN bird can be very "loud"; wow, she sure can be loud! Keep the videos coming.
I love that musk smell of them ugh it’s a drug to me who els here is a sniff addict 😂
Hilarious!
Wolfglam, Lol, I take it you're a follower of Marlene McCohen's?
Lol, she likes to sniff her birds, lol.
I like their smell too. I always sniff mine xD
WoLfGlam I also sniff my birds on a regular basis. I put my nose in their neck and inhale deeply🤣
3:45 omg my baby does this too...😍
She loves me!❣️
You can tell how much you care for your bird by all har beautiful colour matched accessories lol 💝
My Robbie lived 28 years . He was an Indian ringneck parrot. Loved that bird, very happy. Loved the mirrors. I think he believes there were other birds in the mirrors. Was so upset when he passed. There was no warning , he was healthy his whole life, my Robbie went through bluffing b ehavior if I paid more attention to my other birds more than him .sensitive bird, he’d get his feelings hurt and turn away when I gave him attention after the others, he’d do that until he figured I had paid enough of a price! Lol
Sorry about your loss.
I have three indian ringneck parrots too. The thought of losing any one of them scares me. All my life since I was a kid, we have been keeping these greens. Have seen so many die.
The death of a parrot (pet in general) is same as the death of any family member.
It makes me sad to learn that your parrot is no more. 💔
28 years??? That's a long time! Hope mine lives that long. I got a 2 year old lutino Ringneck, probably female for what I see in her behavior. I had budgie that lived 10 years, a lovebird that lived 15 and a cockatiel that lived 22. Very sad when they passed but can't complain about living above their life expectancy.
Rio was so cute playing with her ball , I didn't know birds like her would do that kind of playing 😊
I’m getting an Indian Ringneck soon and I’m super excited!
Such a beautiful color
My bird always smells great and sometimes for some reason he ends up smelling like the stuff he eats like if he eats a strawberry smells like a strawberry or something sweet
Aww, Rio loves her mommy very much! Rio is living like a Queen and eating like a King! So lucky to be your bird! I also put napkins on the bottom of my cages too. I love your multi-colored/marble effect wall in the beginning of the video. Did you paint that yourself? Also, dd you paint the lamp on your desk in your computer room? I have seen them in solid green and solid colors but never that colorful.
Thank you for the valuable info about IRN parrots. Kisses from Mango, Blueberry & Rainbow!
Hi, it's a backdrop behind me. The lamp came that color, it's really old so not sure if they still make that color. Thanks for watching

I am so sorry you lost little Rio. RIP Rio.i find it so adorable how she dipped her wings under the faucet.
I am getting my first bird (as an adult)in a couple of weeks. I decided upon a half moon conure.
Lol Rio with the ball was hilarious. Good for her, some exercise.
Wow you have soooo many birds
Thx for the boiling water tip. I just got a green cheek conure and didn't know that
so sweet and beautiful!
I wish I had a Ringneck. They're gorgeous!
Ele é lindo! Iam Brazil and I love birds! He's Beautiful !!!!
Hello! Thank you and thanks for watching my video all the way from Brazil.
Fantastic video. They seem to have the characteristics of a budgie. I'm gonna take the plunge and get one :D
I've had mine for two years now. He's great. I started talking to him when he was a chick for a couple of hours a day. He will greet me with "Hi Baby... Hi Sweetie" When he lands on me on my shoulder and says... "Peek-a-boo" and many other words and sentences. I got lucky! ☺😉
We have a blue ring neck male called Terry. What a character. Loves cuddles, apples, and he sings to my toes and fingers.
Aww thankyou for sharing this it was a pleasure to watch. I'm buying my friends blue ringneck a ball now :)
About the loudness: as someone who has previously owned many many birds and only have an IRN now I would like to say that I prefer this species noices the most 😅 for example I never liked cockatiel noices, they are so high pitch that I don't really like to keep them anymore.
Macaws made less noice but the noice shook the walls 🤣🤣 IRN noice is the most pleasant in my opinion, he can make noice and it's not bothering me at all I actually like his voice a lot. I think that is something people don't always take to consideration and is something I have learned purely from experience.
IRN noice is much nicer than cockatiels and budgies for example.
African greys on the other hand make noices that they hear and mine repeated my ex's voice for a long time wich was disturbing to say the least.
I'm getting a ringneck really soon! She's so pretty! She's a pale blue pallid (white head) and she has like pied wings
ooh she sounds beautiful!
She is adorable.
Just purchased one for my mom. Hopefully everything goes well. Lots to learn. Great video.
Rio is beautiful I have a 4 month old male like her. He lands on my head while I'm in the shower washing my hair, and he came to me while I was sitting in the tub the other day so he's starting to really get into the water. New subscriber thanks for the upload. 🐦❤
Awh, he sounds like a nice bird, thanks for subscribing.
My girlfriend got a male blue ringneck yesterday. He's 4 years old, is pretty friendly and talkative but still getting used to the new place. He does squak if we leave but so far no neighbors have complained lol. Over all, super cool dude so far
Lovely, you explained really well. Great video!!!!!
You are just darling .... and I love Rio.... thank you for all the incredibly useful info... getting my IRN on Friday from a rescue....I've learned so much just from this video ... ~~ Love from Lakeside ~~~~Phoebe
So uhh. . .Ringnecks have a teenager stage where they are complete buttheads? XD That's cool.
Tbh almost all parrots have bluffing stages. But ringnecks are notorious for especially agressive and stubborn ones. I can't imagine because my parrotlet's bluffing stage was no walk in the park
Mine is going through that phase. She bites me constantly and throws a tantrum.
Hated this stage of my bird’s life 😂 just gotta keep working with him/her
Haha yes! 😂 my parrotlet went through a bluffing stage. It was rough
My male cockatiel is slowing down his bluffing stage, not easy, he has been very aggressive at times, even my budgies somewhat do it. Good preparation for the ringnecks ahead I hope.
Me and my fiancé decided on a ringneck when we are ready for the commitment. Finding one at a rescue has been difficult though.
darkdragoneclipse thank you for rescuing. Mine is rescued. I didn't look for him though. He just turned up
You re doing a great job with this beautiful bird!
Rio is beautiful , this helped alot I'm really considering getting a indian ringneck , thanks for your help 💙
YES I HAVE ONE
I have a ringneck. I was told he was African but he looks just like an Indian so I just say he is a rose ringed parakeet or Ringneck. lol Unfortunately he has been neglected for a decade so he is terrified of hands. I am working with him but it is very slow as he gets anxious very easily. I had to buy him a huge cage as he doesn't like his tail to touch anything...he came to me with his tail trimmed short which he does himself...so my solution was to buy him the biggest cage I could get which is about 5 foot long. lol So far so good...his tail is growing. 🙌🏾 I had to get him a travel cage larger than yours as his tail. lol
Yes they have very long tails, glad it's growing, they need it to balance themselves for flying.
I just had to say this You have inspired me to love parrots and I actually have a blue Indian Ringneck he's adorable so Thank you so much:))
She's adorable. Yes they are very loud
Rio is simply gorgeous, ❤❤❤ and her behavior is absolutely adorable! Her bathing routines are simply devine! I've got a sweet sweet Senegal who turned 19 this spring! He hates men and I suppose I do too now! 😆 His name is Forrest and he isn't clipped either. He loves flying and he's absolutely fabulous at it. Which pellets does Rio enjoy? Well, I absolutely enjoyed your video and meeting sweet Rio, so we're new subscribers.
Thank you! I also have a Sennie, she is 10.
I have a male that looks very much like yours. He was born on St Patricks day this year. He will step up but will not let me touch him. I'm his favorite person in the house and hangs out with me yet still bites me occasionally. His name is Loki. He also loves the ball like yours but likes to rip them apart. I'm hoping he gets nicer to me but even if he doesn't I love him with all my heart.
I got my male ringneck last year and he's an angel. He used to do the same thing and it took a long time for him to trust me to pet him but now he loves it! Try not to react if he bites you and let him get used to your hand. Don't give up and keep trying!😊
Great advice!
I have 2 male IRN and despite being hand-raised, they were NOT hand tame when I got them after weaning. The first few months I had them were a huge struggle between their fear of me and the biting. The more wild one would literally fly to me and just chomp down on me....! It was incredibly frustrating! However, I continued to work with them. Since they are flighted, if they ever bit me, I just gently shook them off and they would fly away. I've had them now for 2 years and they are so much better trained now. I haven't gotten a real bite in a very long time--part of this is that I also know better what the signs are that will LEAD toward the bite, and I don't even permit those signs. They are now two very friendly little birds and they will readily fly over to me, chill with me, preen my hair, and climb all over me. What's more is that they have also turned out to be quite social with other people too as long as I am nearby. :) Take heart and be patient! He will come around eventually :)
Dont worry upto 4 months they behave like stub born teenagers..
Dnt react when he bites u,
I tried to stop give attention when bites..so it works most of the time.
Try to talk in soothing voice..
Wendy Wood Stress less, had the exact same issue! Was cute and affectionate as a baby, then started biting and being nasty/grumpy all the time. Although that didn't stop us from giving him lots of love and affection. He has now grown out of this stage after about 6 to 10 months of it, and is once again a cute & loving happy little boy. Our bond grows stronger each day that comes by, so it was well worth the patience. Very rewarding.
My all parrots loved an Indian dessert - kaju ki barfi. Though I gave them this occasionally as it's heavy to digest.
thank you for your sound advice
I love parrots since I was a kid. My uncle got us a green ringneck (1988) with clipped wings, however as her wings grew, she just flew away. My sister-in law had a ringneck (2009) as well who was very smart. She knew how to unlock her cage and one time my mum took her out for some sun bathing and fresh air, so she just opened the door and left us. Then I got myself a ringneck (2013) again. She was amazing, I had her loose in the kitchen because I don't believe in caging hand tamed parrots. She usually sits on the window bars during night, however a cat managed to attack her. I took her to vet but she didn't survive. Now after 6 years, I've finally bought myself a young pair of green ringnecks (2019). Other than Ringnecks, I have had a beautiful Alexandrian parrot, Timneh Grey and Australian budgies. Sorry about the long story, I love your video and channel.
Oh wow, what a story and a sad story about those birds. Now that you have new birds you know how to keep them safe.
Very informative video 👍🏻
