I ride my RT Ltd a hard 100-150 miles each day through the twisties along The Front Range in Colorado. There are very few days I miss. I push mine like a sportbike and it does amazingly well. You have made your self look like a fool because most of your complaints revolve around bad dealers and worse mechanics. You must be a pissed off Spyder owner and just trying to get back at Can-Am or your dealer. What you said about keeping it well maintained is true with any vehicle.

    • @the1spyderryder

I have 3 CAN-AM Spyders all purchased brand new starting with a 2008 that is a screamer, I replaced the rear tire 4 times the first year because i burned them off by smokeing them. My first I bought from a POS DEALER about 20 minutes away. My second is a 2014 ST IT TOO IS AN AWESOME MACHINE I bought it from a very good dealer 30 minutes away opposite direction who cut me a deal and promised me 15% off all parts. I have had no problems with the second one. The 2008 i had issues similar to all first year product and they are all fun to ride. I have no issues with either of them and I love them both.
My third Can-Am product is a 2019 Ryker Ralley. It is shorter but is nearly the same length and width as the Spyders. The Ralley is is my "FUN TIME MACHINE" a fun drifting machine and all around fun. I have not had problems with them at all.
One issue that I have is it cost over $100 to $150 to get the oil changed at the dealer ship but I could cut that down significantly by doing it my self.
I have ridden bikes for ever and by far enjoy the CAN-AM line hands down.
This reviewer is obviouy a whiner, bitcher, and complainer and has a beef with his dealers / mechanics. You cant blame the manufacturer for a bad dealer or mechanic. I didnt like my first dealer or mechanics that they had, so I found a great one!

    • @gsxraiders
      @gsxraiders Год назад +9

@@Tolbat If you're gonna buy one, get the Spyder and not the Ryker. Even so, I do not recommend buying any Can-Ams at all. My father in law has Ryker 600cc that he stores in my garage. It is basically an unreliable 3 wheel scooter. The electrical issue is VERY true and is a pain the in the ass. Fault codes after faulty codes. Dead batteries due to poor charging system. He's been left stranded about 5-6 times in his first year of owning it alone, and yes it was purchased brand new. So far, it only has 2100 miles on it now. That's why it is currently up for sale. Another downside is that the quality of the parts are cheap and rusted really fast. It also has a CVT transmission (on Ryker models) that runs on belts and pulleys like a scooter. I can go on and on about why you shouldn't buy a Can-Am Rykers but I'll let you make that decision yourself.

I've got a 2013 RTL. Once the recall (like thousands of other brands including BMW, Honda etc.) was fixed, the problems went away. That's what recalls are for. You don't need laser alignment and 90% of the maintenance should be done by the owner. As in any brand, there are different problems or annoyances for each model year.
This video seem to take the most extreme negative position. I wonder who paid for it.

People do crazy things on them like riding in snow and ice, doing burn-out. I’ve seen more Harley Davidson on side of the road than can-am spiders. But anyway everything breaks. Whenever mine breaks and it will because I put 10.000 a year on it. No problems I guess I must be one of the lucky spider owners. 10 reasons that nobody should listen to you.
      1. You can’t even pronounce Bombardier correctly.
      2. You can’t even get who makes the right. The are not made by Can Am. The are made by BRP.
      3. You don’t specify that the unreliability issues are reported most by owners attempting to get something from the bike that it’s not designed to do.
      4. You don’t bother to specify that certain problems were repaired under recall, and recalls exist for all vehicles.
      5. You don’t attribute the problems to the models they tend to be specific to
      6. The only thing you manage to get right, is what you say about the 2014 models
      7. Nearly every Spyder you show is modified in some way
      8. You don’t know the differences between Spyders & Rykers at one point in your video
      9. On maintenance, you are totally wrong. Maintenance intervals are farther apart than on most other motorcycles. And laser alignments aren’t needed until you change front suspension components. Laser alignments aren’t routine maintenance.
      10. There was never any intention to make an “entry level” Spyder. And to compare it to a Harley trike is ludicrous.

Bought my RT SM5 in 2010 and still riding today. 2 batteries later and 3 recalls! what a joy to ride. Never needed a towing like so many Harley Davidsons I have seen on the side of the road. The Y factor of th spyder makes it a great try wheeler in corners compared to a tricycle. Tricycle's tend to flip when entering a corner to fast. This is almost impossible with a Snyder. I often ride with two wheelers and they slow me down. I am not talking about sport bikes but large bikes. Also if you ride a Spyder with two wheelers you should ride behind them because the Spyder breaks faster.

If you can not afford the proper upkeep on any type of vehicle you own, then you may want to rethink spending your hard-earned money. I 100% agree with you on finding a good dealership regardless of which bike you go with. I am very fortunate to have an amazing dealer that I have gotten to know over the years. One last piece of advice, if you are considering buying a bike whether it's your first or fourth bike. Go to the dealership, hang out and get to know the people. Sit on every bike they have on the showroom floor. If they tell you to leave, leave and never go back. If they offer you a cup of coffee, bring them donuts the next morning. If you own a bike, you need to be friends with the dealer. That's all, ride safe.

Brought it in to Tousley Motorsports in White Bear Lake, MN.... they determined the speedometer display needed to be replaced. Only problem was the part was on backorder and wouldn't be available until October19th... then it was pushed back to November 16th. then pushed back again to March 15th the following year. so I already lost 4 months of riding last year!! now today I was told it was pushed back again to May 20th!! so now I won't even have it in the spring. this is ridiculous!!! I'm paying for a machine that I can't even ride. I talked to BRP about it and they said there is a material shortage. I said "Funny, you don't seem to be having any shortages when it comes to building and selling new machines"!!! if you're gonna sell bikes then you better have the parts available to fix them when they break!!!!!!!!!!

He's right though, I'm a motorcycle teach for an Indian Dealership and the owners LOVE to buy used Can-Am's because they sell well but they are an absolute pain in the Fing a$$ to work on because you have to take half the body off just to change the oil and then you gotta play like a 13 year old boy fumbling with a bra hook just to see his first boob just to get the oil filter out because the frame rail is right there in the way. The front end is too wide for a regular motorcycle lift so your stuck crawling around on the floor to work on them and having them jacked up on some sketchy shit because what you have won't work. I though about buying once but I would have to completely redesign the frame so I could actually get to shit just to maintence, The actual work isn't hard, it's being able to get to it that's hard. The reason they charge you 3.5 hours of shop time to change the oil is because it literally takes that long to do it.

I bought a used 2010 RT-S SM5 in 2017, since then I have spent a lot of money on fixes. The worst offender was a sealed computer that was reporting an ABS Fault and kicking the machine into Limp Home mode. The ABS was fine but the error meant I could not drive over 90 km/h and had to short shift. Now my Spyder does have 105,000 kms on the odometer so it has been ridden for sure. Changed the drive belt at 100K cause some teeth were missing. Hands down the worst part is all the plastics. It keeps it looking new but even to change the headlight lightbulb requires 2 hours labor at the dealer. Learn to remove the tupperware yourself and you will save so much money.

I agree and disagree. I do have both a 998cc 2012 RTL and 2014 1330cc RTS. And a 2008 Victory Vision . I am a DIYer and perform tire, oil and brake service on all these vehicles. The inverted trikes physiology and technology is far superior to the Harley and GOLDWING and other Add-on trike kits that are rear wheeled. The technology on the BRP CanAms is far superior and safer than rear wheeled trikes. These BRP units are designed and perform at the highest level for a 3 wheeled configuration IMHO.These BRP trikes have advanced systems that improve stability and reliability. ABS VSS and DPS all integrated to allow safe travel. Many other systems also are included to provide safety for the rider. All your 10 points are somewhat truthful but can be easily applied to other brands of trikes and 3 wheelers as well. None of the points can be stressed as VERBATIM and gospel truths. I can elaborate but will follow for comments. I have enjoyed my two BRP products but have also sworn a few times as well. I'd be hard pressed to recommend these trikes to those folks that don't have a clue to maintenance and the costs associated with these items...most of us are seasonal riders but that applies to all bike brands but I would say the same for any HARLEY or HONDA .
I agree -dealership know how is lacking but not absent..same for other brands as well. I do appreciate a FULL FORUM activity on several sites on facebook and www.spyderlovers.com where I can get associated technical details and trade information to make my BRP experience fruitful. No regrets but I also am willing to invest my time, $ and know how to make it a great experience. I find these BRP trikes under-rated in my experience.

I’m sure there were many problems in years past. This is so typical of just about any motor vehicle. Years ago Harleys were pretty darn crappy as well. While I’ll go along with a few items I would disagree with most of these points with the newer ones. I just purchased a 2021 Spyder Limited. I’m a master bike builder and have built many one off bikes that were featured in various magazines. I say this only because I feel it qualifies me for my opinions. I belong to a large group of bikers ( no not Hells Angles) and our biggest trip is to Sturgis South Dakota . I live in Myrtle Beach SC. This year our group of 12 took a longer scenic route and I ended up putting on 4800 miles. The trike had 1000 miles on it before we left. Although they recommend the initial oil change for more miles I changed it anyway. I’m still kind of old school and wanted to get the majority of fine breaking in metal particles out of it. I can honestly say it performed flawlessly. Not one single issue. Of course I was still somewhat concerned there might have been all things considered. Even though I had more than enough insurance and road side assistance there obviously are not as many dealers through out like say a Harley. This could have certainly been a time issue had something happened. Now the reason for my purchase in the first place was due to several physical impairments to my 72 year old body. I won’t even begin to list them. Bottom line without this machine there is no way I could ever ride to Sturgis let alone daily riding around here. Being a hall of fame inductee I’ve built awesome looking bikes and this certainly isn’t the bike you fall in love with appearance wise. The new ones are 100 percent better than earlier ones for sure. But over all I don’t think you can beat it. Yes they are a bit pricy, but nowhere near what a Harley trike is. And trust me after riding close to that same amount of miles you won’t be beat up like on the Harley. I only write all of this as to not scare off someone considering the purchase of one of them. There’s always issues with everything out there no matter what you ride. All in all I couldn’t be happier with mine. There are some really nice aftermarket goodies from Slingmods.com ( no I’m not getting any compensation.) In the industry I’m known for my air intake systems and I’m currently working on one for this model. There are cold air ( which honestly work) systems for Rykers but not Spider’s. Im hoping to have it available soon. It will improve performance and make maintenance much easer not to mention looking bitchin. Wimmercustomcycle.com.

The threat of electrical issues on my Ryker scares me. I did have my headlights stop working (both) randomly. Bought new bulbs and switched one out, disconnected and reconnected some harnesses (still wasn't working). Put the original bulb back, and a couple of rides later they just started working again. I hate to say this but I agree with almost everything on this video. I own a Can Am Spyder RTL 2021 and I take care of everything and even got the thing ceramic coated! But the truth is that I can't trust this bike on long rides. I'm having electronic issues and trying to get this bike serviced cost a fortune! They charged me $230.00 for "diagnostics" basically just plugd the laptop on the USB in front of the bike and clear the codes, oh and the diagnostics were $180.00. They told me the other money was to cover "parts" and when I asked, they said it was to pay for rags and gloves! Seriously? Right now my bike shows the engine light and even though the bike seems to run fine, the light turns on and also the battery light too. I replaced the battery and didn't solve the problem so, of course, if i take it to the dealer it will cost me a lot of meny just for the so called diagnostic. And yes, I am paying a fortune for this bike. I own a two wheel goldwing but because of my back i don't ride it much, but that is a bike I trust completely. Also if you brerakdown on a can am, good luck finding a dealer close by!

I was so glad I was still alive when that demo was over. I ride motorcycles and taught for the MSF for 7 years so it isn't like I can't ride motorcycles. I have had 2 Spyders, a 2009 RS SE5, which I lost in a flood, not its fault. And I currently own a 2019 RT SE6. Here is my experience with them. While yes I agree with your points, some were repetitive, and some not sure I'd go that far with. The 2009 one once tossed a TPS code at me, and set me on limp mode 30 miles from home. Turned it off and back on and it the TPS code vanished, and I never saw it again. The cluster had to be replaced because the numbers on the Speedo were not showing fully. But that's it. I took it in for regular maintenance, and the dealer had a flood that lost it and another 100 bikes that got totalled (I was sad I loved that bike). Had it for 10 years.
Then soon after I bought a 2019 and as much as I love this, its not as snappy as the RS was. IT IS however more comfortable. BUT the fitment of the Frunk and trunk and saddle bags is less than to be desired, I needed them all checked for bad seals and the rubber seal to this day likes to come loose when I pull something out. VERY annoying. My biggest issue with it right now is the reverse/downshift toggle has a switch that when it gets cold wont click and I can't downshift and I can't get in reverse. My plan is to take that piece apart myself and add some shims that according to my CanAm Friends will fix the issue.
Both bikes, yes require more maintenance. I do and did use both bikes in all 3 seasons, they are just that fun, but I won't ride lower than 35 degree's and higher than 86 degrees. But it still gets ridden on average of at the least once a week.
I don't have a garage, I just use a good full bike cover that does just fine.
Something I hate about the plastics is the sun bleaching. I wish they had been made of metal.
But other than that, I love them. BUT I will be getting the SM5-6 next time, the semi auto trans can be a pain, like that switch issue above.

Do your actual due diligence on these vehicles. Drive one thousands of miles. Then come back with an informed report from actual experience. I rode two wheels on and off for decades and it took me 5000-6000 miles of daily driving and practicing to become one with the machine. Spectators and test drivers haven't a clue what these machines are actually about. I can get hooligan real fast even on my Rt Ltd. I can easily push through the 25-35 MPH curves at 60+...but before I was dialed in I was much closer to and sometimes below the posted speed. Many, maybe most riders give up too soon, they never get dialed in. The F3s are the best route for a quicker learning curve and a great time every time. I have had ZERO issues with mine that weren't me. Who cares about recalls? Part of the deal on every deal.

There is a recall for front sprocket wear. We will bring it in to be handled. So far, we have not had problems with this. My friend has a New Harley trike AND a 2019 Spyder RT. I have ridden them both quite a bit. No comparison, the Spyder handles so much better in all ways. And it it matters, it’s also faster. Corners MUCH better and brakes better. Yeah, the Harley is “cool” and rumbles a lot. That is the ONLY advantage that the Harley has. And the Harley costs more to boot! $41,000. Don’t know about other dealers but the one here in Ocala, FL has been very good and is very knowledgeable.

I have a f3t and so far I am liking the machine except for the brake squeak and belt noise at 50mph. Then again every machine has it quirks.

Much disinformation in this video!!!!. Example... up untill about 2 model years ago, CanAm/BRP didnt even sell a accessory belt tensioner for the Spyders, much less come as standard equipment, and in you video, you were showing Rykers...... which are shaft drive, so no tensioner there either. That was but one!!!

Sales on a decline? The Can Am dealers we have visited have only one or two on the showroom floor because they sell so fast. Going into the assembly area shows over a dozen crates with Can Am's to be assembled with several already purchased sight unseen.

I don’t know how this narrator gets through life on a daily basis. Everyday there must be incredible drama that stops him in his boots. What a sad man.

"belt tensioner"? There isn't any. You can add one from BRP or another supplier, they help to smooth the belt vibrations. Also, most of the problems you mention are of the earlier Spyder 998 engined variety, like the one you pictured here. Those went away after 2017 for the newer 1330 engine design. Much better tryke.

I have a 2008 Spyder and I've only made a PCV delete + code clearance of a brake failure error in 7 years. Only 2 small hiccups in 7 years with an old vehicle from 2008 which I always ride HARD.

Your Spyder must be built like a tank to handle all that hard riding!

I bought my 2014 ST Limited second hand in 2016. I have not had any of the described problems. And anyone thinking of buying a Spyder should know that it should not be compared with owning a motorbike. Complaining about the costs in buying one? Take a look at a GoldWing or the top range touring bike from BMW.

Don't buy one unless you want one. Oh and it's not a "trike". It's a roadster. You are welcome.

What is the point of it? You can't split lanes with it. It has handlebars but it steers more like a car than a motorcycle( right? cuz the wheels don't tilt). It's basically a three wheeled car. I rather have a Yamaha niken.
