A Payless Shoe Store Prank! - Part 1
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 дек 2018
- What happens when a Payless shoe store pranks a bunch of influencers into paying a few hundred dollars for their shoes? It works! Real fam, what do you think of this marketing manipulation?
Speak on it Adrienne. People acting like versace make their clothes with some unheard material.
I agree. I've watched documentary on this. The same manufactur that makes clothes for Walmart are the same once making clothes for these high end designers. Perfect example Fashionova and Forever 21. Same clothes different tags.
Fernande Francois really !!!!!
So glad that Adrienne was schooling people on this. I know the girls were acting like they could tell the difference but there are many times you cannot.
I remember my grandma telling me this when she worked at a hat factory. They would make the same hat but with a different label on each one.
😂😂😂 all them labels
Genius marketing. Just proves y’all a bunch of hype beast. Buy for quality only.. not the name.
It’s not for the name, they bought it, because it had an expensive price tag. Well, my school was hosting a Fair Trade Fair that my grade participated in, and our design teacher told us a story about how one of the Fair Trade companies (who sell beauty products) had to up their prices in the U.S just to sell, because people wouldn’t buy cheap beauty products.
Chenai Sabeta-Boadi yeah. Whether it’s the price or name .. I just don’t understand how people can’t tell cheap quality from good quality.
Yes! People try it. My suppliers for shoes and clothing are all Italian named (Prada, Roger Vivier, Gucci, Versace, etc) and people act so rude and haughty about serial numbers, etc. I tell them that I could stamp the shoe and not even tell them it's an unauthorized shoe and not give them the discount. Or worst, they try to get it for free almost. We spend a hefty penny and profits come in quantity for us. People will wake up
I shop everywhere so I buy payless too.
Same with cars. Some “nice guy” pos tried telling me that my husband doesn’t truly love me for helping me buy a Honda Civic and that he would have brought me a Porsche or Range Rover instead of that “embarrassing cheap car” (in his words). The civic is the most comfortable car I’ve ever driven, and plus I hate cramped little 2 door cars anyways so even if I was filthy rich I would still settle for a civic.
This is exactly what Kanye does with yeezy. His clothes and shoes are crap, but people only buy it because of the perception that it's "luxury" when it really isn't.
He's not the only one by long shot!!!!IJS.....
you're absolutly right. His cloths are trash and overpriced.
Shout out to wish.com for my fake yeezys!
@@pryncetazze Wish is a joke, hard to get your money back, I experienced that myself. Be persistent with then, don't let them off the hook!
I was in a frenzy waiting to comment the same thing.
Payless ain't even Pay LESS anymore lol... it's "pay more than Target and maybe even brands name shoes". WalMart is a deal 👌
So true. They have $50 boots in there sometimes. Some boots at my Macy's are cheaper when they have sales
I go on Black Friday to catch those 50% discounts 😂
Sidnee Casi right
fo' real
When I shop at "paylessi" I always use a coupon code so it will actually be less cause payless prices have creeped up over the years.
A colleague of mine was showing off with a Zara dress that she bought. I bought the exact same dress from a grocery store. We stood next to each other. And even she admitted it was the exact same dress but just different label on the inside and obviously a different price tag! You can look real good on a budget if you have an eye for fashion! 😀💰
ifunanya24 A grocery store that sells dresses🤔🤔🤔 also Zara isn't considered high end...
ifunanya24 Zara is not high end.....
Um Zara isn't high-end lmao
Where do you live that people show off Zara 😂 and the only grocery store I know that sells clothes is Whole Foods... is that it?
ifunanya24 guys! she didnt say zara was highend but obviously zara clothing is more expensive than grocery clothing. And yes, grocery stores sell clothing sometimes.
Thank you Adrienne for putting that out there. I saw this story on another site and the comments below were just like Jeannie and Loni's saying that they could spot the fake a mile away. It is bull. Just as Adrienne said some of the products that people pay $200 plus for can be found elsewhere for $40. I have never been a brand person. Especially after watching this show called the Profit. The guy goes around to distress retailers and helps them get their businesses out of the red by showing them ways to fix up their stores and what not. This one particular show I watched he helped this woman who owns boutiques here in NYC. The long of the short. He told her she could buy the material she used to make her clothes from somewhere else and mark up the clothing 100-200%. So something she previously sold for $50 he told her to mark it up to $200. He also told her to scale down the amount of clothing she had in her stores. When he first went to her stores the racks were really close together and jammed packed with clothing. After he was finished her stores looked like one of those fancy boutiques with very few items all high priced. After watching that show I no longer believed in pricing. It is all marketing. I have a few pairs of shoes from Payless and no one could tell that is where I bought them until I told them so.
Hmmm, they shoulg try this with goodwill
Good observation 👏
My dad is a truck driver and he went to pick up produce for Wal-Mart turns out there was another truck next to him taking the same produce to Whole Foods 🤣🤣 Now that’s what I call ‘organic’
Don’t remember if youtube video or commenter talk about tomato sauce. They said not all brands of tomato sauce, but some were the same batch of tomato sauce where they had different labels for them.
Lets be real no shoe is worth those prices period
I love Payless!! Till this day and not ashamed 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Andrea Far SAME and Ross, Rainbow, D’Ds Discounts, Berlington and a corner Latina store we have here where I live
Look at fashion nova they sell the same clothes at rainbow and rainbow is much much cheaper.
jenny sanchez And Citi Trendz is even cheaper than Rainbow. Find a store near you girl! 😂
Brittni Noelle oh really thanks for the info :)
jenny sanchez You’re welcome! 😊💜✨
Omggggg yesss
It’s definitely same quality with AliExpress
That’s crazy, i thank God I’m not a name brand person, i could care less, but the fact people would pay 200-500 for one pair of shoes simply because of the name brand sewed on it just shows what drones people in this country are.
UniquelyMade same man thank you god 🤗🤗🤗
Tommy H I remember people paying for that stuff in high school
That Payless prank shows how shallow people can be.
I agree 100% with Tamera and Adrienne.
Designer is not all that. Simple. Stop breaking your pockets people. Clothes is clothes just create your own style 😊
This is so true. My sis in law works at a huge warehouse where she sells large amounts of clothes and their top buyers are forever 21 and fashion nova. She says they just take off the labels and put theirs instead. Her employee discount is $2-$4 each piece of clothing. So when the new new stuff comes out guess who gets a call 😜
The question I always ask myself when shopping and seeing a popular brand is "If this exact same shoe/clothing item wasn't this brand, would I still pay this much for it?" If the answer is no I won't get it. I will pay for quality, I will not pay for brand.
that is an AMAZING tactic, thanks for sharing, i love it! for me it’s also a matter of ‘can i find/make something very similar to this, or something i like as much as this for a better price.’ i will pay a premium for something that is UNIQUE and/or handmade, not because it has a brand name attached to it.
They trying to act like they don’t have a closet full of LVs and Chanel’s. They missed the point. People buy brands and marketing. These “luxury” brands manufacture their stuff in the same place. You pay markup for the labels.
For real tho. Wendy Williams does the same thing
I go shopping at ROSS and in happy 😁
I wish Ross existed in NY. When I go down South I shop at Ross. The same clothing you can find in Macy's and elsewhere can be found for much cheaper at Ross. Same goes for Burlington can be found cheaper there too. There are Burlington's in NY so I go to those.
ross is bomb
Savannah KAPU amen
I agree with you
Facts! Ross will always be my go-to! Especially for my spring/summer work dresses!
It’s true that some brands do what Adrienne is talking about, but they can get in trouble with the law if caught. Abercrombie & Fitch used to make their jeans and the ones at Hollister, their lower-end brand, at the same factory and of the same quality and charge $40 more for the A&F ones, but they got exposed and were forced to make a difference in the quality.
My mom would tell me the same thing about a factory she worked in that packaged medicine. They would stop the conveyor belt to switch the labels. Some were generic, some were well brand named meds. But the pills never changed. I happily purchase at thrift shops and always get compliments and asked where I buy. Since for me, it’s never been a thing to be ashamed of- I always thank them and tell them exactly where I got it from. It’s funny to see how many people get shocked. 😂😊
100% agree with Tamera. they were caught up in the glitz and glamour and wanted to save face and be polite for any future collabs
Those people clearly never had to wear Payless so the couldn’t recognize the difference! 🤦🏽♀️😂
Loni has been looking flawless! She, obviously, has a lot of joy in her life. Gorgeous

I love how Adrienne always shouts out to her friends or cousins or whoever. So cool! 💓 never forget where you came from.
Ok but did they get their money back?
Yes, they refunded everyone's money and they were allowed to keep the shoes.
@@mamltd oh great! Thanks.
zippity dooda yes
mamltd my question is how did they get them all to stay in there so long while others were still shopping
@@mrsbreazy7413Maybe had someone posted by the exit to explain
Yes!!! This is very true! My mom used to work for a company that made bras and underwear.. They would put different tags on them (including Victoria's Secret) and send them out. Here's the best part. When a product wouldn't sell, they would send it back to the factory and they would re-tag them! and send them to a different store. Same products, different tags with different prices... Crazy.
Not everything is the same thing. Some things are a lot better and worth the price. I buy my shoes at Aldo and there a little more pricey but they last me, and they are better quality. My mom use to buy me Payless shoes and would have to keep buying throughout the school year because they wouldn’t last. Compared to other shoes like target she would only buy me one pair a year. There is a difference, I get that not always sometimes it is just people going for the brand but yeah. That’s funny for those who got pranked.
Doc Martens are one of the few brands that’s actually worth it and better than any knock off. I had a pair that I wore for 4 years. They lasted through rain, sand, mud, grease, etc and not a scratch. Only reason I stopped wearing them was because I grew out of them.
Tamera is on the right track! I was thinking the same thing. If I just bought expensive shoes and I was being interviewed, I would have lied just because I don't like conflict and I feel bad to say something negative. I would have pretended to like it just to avoid them questioning me why I dislike it. Actually.. if I dislike it, I wouldn't buy it lol. I guess what I'm saying is if they interviewed me while I was browsing then I would lie. I usually do not buy what I don't like unless it's for charity or something.
I went to Payless on Black Friday when I saw Macy’s lines😂
Yes girl I woke at Macy's and our whole store was crazy
All of those “influencers“ were people just trying to get sponsored, paid and reposted they’re the type that lie to their fans and followers about quality and loving the products if they get paid enough smh
Adrienne hast the best life, just imagine she had married rob kardashian.
Now she is on the real, and her husband is way better than her ex ! Good for her!
Great observation Tamara...
Wow I remember back in the day when I worked at this factor we never changed product but we used a more expensive box for the higher priced stores! So I see Adrienne’s point! We have to be smart shoppers.
Adrienne was so humble in this scene
the “influencers" didn’t know crap, were phony, or both
How you hold that shoe with a sticker on the insole while rambling about quality when it is obviously not the work of a seasoned cobbler
Not every line of high-end is quality and the easily impressed seem to ignore that because their stuck on labels
*similar to food or music high price does not equal high quality*
The same can be said about cars too....
Tam was on point with this one
“I can tell it was made with high quality material” lol righhhhtt
Bugget friendly? Yeah, right.
Loni’s face when Tamera is talking 🤦🏾♀️
i literally shop at payless all the time and they really got nice ass shoes. people be sleepin on them😂 and they be quality. people just be buying stuff for the name.
I'm not even mad that they tricked their customers into spending that much money because it's money they would've spent otherwise.
Tell the truth and shame the devil Ade🤣
3:00 THAT part. But y'all label obsessed people are stuck on this stuff being name brand.
They do the same thing for pregnancy tests! Dollar tree brand and expensive are the same. #Research
The fashionista didn't even look real 😂😂😂 let me watch pt2
Question ?!?! Soooo how the hell did they just go in a “ new store “ if they’ve never seen or heard any ads or anything about it 😂💀 people are so gullible... Payless is laughing their way to the bank ! I’m here for that marketing strategy though lol
I love this because it shows that brand doesn’t always equal quality. You have to really do your research when you buy something. Pull on the seams, hold the fabric up to the light to see how much is see through, read the fabric composition, etc. all these are clues about quality.
I will say, overtime there are certain brands I have come to trust and distrust. LL bean in my opinion is great quality. You are truly paying for quality, not just the brand. I am less critical of their clothing when I buy it than I would be of another brand.
I am litterally on a the real marathon
Thanks for the info A! I realized this when we had the ecoli outbreak on lettuce or broccoli a few years ago. I started asking myself how did all of these different brands get infected!? And then it hit me, they are all from the same farm/ factory and only the packaging is different. Ever since then I buy everything cheap or on sale. F packaging!
Agree with what Tamera said, I think some of those so-called " influencers" were faking because they saw the potential for a contract with this company or extra exposure. Think about all the RUclips channels in the Instagram accounts you follow of fitness, fashion, and beauty influencers. When is the last time you saw someone give a negative review? It happens extremely seldomly because these influencers would lose business if they gave their honest opinion. Let's be honest: although the fashion industry is crooked, and people make too much of brand names, it doesn't mean that people don't know the difference between a cheap pleather shoe that was glued together and a hand-stitched leather shoe with quality material. I still think that people are extremely extra with name brand loyalty and will pay too much for it, but I also think Payless played us with their ad by hiring fake "influencers" and making us think that we were in on the joke. Remember at the end of the day Payless is not trying toexpose the fashion industry, they are also trying to sell shoes.
they taught us about this kind of thing in school (grade 6, i believe) but it had to do with FOOD, not with clothing/accessories and whatnot. they warned/explained to us about things like cheerios vs NONAME brand oat o’s or whatever it is. that they would be made in the same factory, the exact same product, put in two different packages and sold at different prices. you maybe have pleasant memories attached with the brand cheerios, and therefore you will go for/pay more for that. then they taught us all the things they do to make food look more appealing in pictures/advertisements such as red lipstick on strawberries etc. i it changed my perception of food buying, for sure. now i wonder why they didn’t teach us about people outside of the food industry doing that?
That’s why you must always stay humble at all times! Also don’t be a sucker to these brands because of a name and high price point.
It’s the same for a lot of products. Working in the liquor industry, I know that There are many second third fourth, etc labeling of brands that end up selling for different price points by using different labels and packaging
2:40 preach TAM! Y’all, don’t believe everything you are shown / told in person or with the help of a black mirror.
I never clicked so fast in my life for a RUclips video. 😂😂😂
Adrienne: Loni your gonna think this is mad funny..
Loni: 🤔😑
😂😂😂😂😂😂
No some expensive clothes have better quality! I can tell the difference in material
Yea..SOME......
I agree. Gotta look at the quality of the clothes. How it's stitched. The material, fabric is it paper thin? Thicker? If you have a good eye, you can see and feel good quality.
They really couldn't tell? Pay less get less. My feet are hurting just looking at those shoes. LOL
as someone who has a family member who worked in the shoe industry im willing to bet not a single person on the show could tell the dif between a 20 dollar shoe and a 300 dollar one. if i took off the brand name you would be just as fooled. the company my sister worked for sold to walmart, payless, target ect.... what people dont understand is alot of their shoes come from the major companies t just under a dif label and or are close outs. basically when a line is discontinued for whatever reason the shoes are just dumped off to stores like payless and they ask to remove the label because they dont want to be associated with the store (cheapens the value). the cost to make is dirt cheap they still make a f-k ton of money even selling them for nothing to store like payless.
adrienne's lashes be lookin like spiders
I ♡ how smart Tam is!
Tamera spoke facts tho 🤷🏾♂️
I had a friend who worked in design and she went out on the job to pick up something for her boss, and in the same factory she saw them putting Nike logos one set of running shoes and a cheaper logo on another set. Same. Exact. Shoes. After she told me that And I did more research, I’m extra careful when picking out my clothes and shopping in stores.
sis what's the name of the cheaper brand so I get buy😂
I love how Tam isn't into name brands and kills the game with her Red Bottoms!!
And this ladies and gentlemen made Kylie one of the richest, youngest person in America.
I tell my husband that if we ever get rich to smack me upside the head if I ever want to spend over $50 on a pair of shoes!!! Spending that much money on shoes is just stupid.
I worked at Payless for a while and youd be surprised at the amazing shoes and purses that would come in. Very great quality. And believe me, because i hated that job, but i bought every damn thang. Lol
Gone head Tam Tam with the truth!!
When I don’t have time to do a out of town shopping trip, I shop at my job Kohl’s and I shop at Walmart and charlottes russe I have an eye for fashion, the most I will spend on a pair of pants is 20 dollars.. stores for big girls are so expensive and their pants are way too big for my legs..
The most I’ve paid for some shoes are $25 lol
Someone said that about tomato product cans. He said they had the same batch of tomato sauce with different labels. Not sure if he said really high end with low brand labels. But he said people would end up paying more for the same cans sold cheaper on the shelf.
Adrieanna is the realisttt. I love her😍😍😍
That's why I stick to Ross. The same jumpsuit costs $49.99 at Ross but $200 at Nordstrom.
Designer brands and budget brand products are made in the same overseas factories.
First of y'all this is a genius prank, the real also does a show call fake it or take it...I think that's the name of it... When audience got to tell the real from fake..half the time the fake be looking better than the real ..
Also it goes to prove a point that if u market something we'll and put a name behind it ... it will sell.
High end doesn't always mean quality.
For the first time i hear a real story from tamera her opnion honesty was 👏👏👏👏
Yup that warehouse example is real and does happen. Lol don't get caught up yall. Look for quality everywhere
Genius Marketing 😂
Wow we learned this concept in cultural anthropology class, the “commodity fetish”
All these 4 people out here will be doing the same thing. They saying they will figure out is laughable 😅🤣
This was crazy silly and shows how easy to make a killing off presentation 😉👌😁😂🤦
I worked at Gucci for one day for Black Friday. I just hope that the people making these high end items, are being paid well. And I hope they are not children!💯
I work at a food processing plant. And I'm here to tell you that your "name brand" nuggets and patties and what not are the same as the store brand. Same meat, different bag.
Whoever did Adrienne's makeup was playing the real prank. Serving Ghost of Christmas Past realness!
genius marketig, they dd get viral with this however, i dont recognize an of them influencers!
Same thing with potato chips ppl! Same chip; different bag 😂😂
Jeannie is upset she didn’t get an invite to Palessi
What Adrienne is saying is FACT. I studied Fashion in college and worked at a sewing manufacturing facility. This is exactly what they do. It widely known in the fashion industry. Adam Ruins Everything even has a episode on this practice. That's why I'm not ashamed to wear low end brand items.
And because I studied Fashion and sewing I ACTUALLY know the difference be high quality and not. The fibers and thread are good indicators. Tightly woven thread is HQ and lose barely twisted thread is LQ.
My mom worked at this place called Andrew Marc and they took labels out of coats and put their name in. That's crazy!
It's the same thing with college education. People that go to Harvard, Yale, Princeton etc. Are only paying thousands of dollars for the name. It sounds "good", but in all honesty, you're being taught the same curriculum at local colleges & Universities like Georgia State 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🐸☕
The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is not too far from Princeton University. Had a Professor who had one child that went to school with me at TCNJ and another who went to Princeton. Sometimes during class, she'd mention that our education at TCNJ is no different than Princeton. I wondered why she brought it up since we weren't asking but then found out she had a daughter who attended Princeton and that irritation of paying so much for tuition must have been on her mind hahahaha.
@@trulyjeannette Lol, that's crazy!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 I feel sorry for your professor though. She probably still has her own loans to worry about, now she has to deal with Princeton's too?? That's dead 💀
I've worked where we would put a pair of George trouser socks (from Wal-Mart) inside a Vera Wang cardboard wrapper and then put a price sticker and barcode on the back which took it $10 higher than the first price! Same manufacturing with different sellers.
BRILLIANT!!!! Absolutely Brilliant!
I think its that, when people are told what to see, they see things that aren't there. There was a study done, a group of people looked at stockings and were told to differentiate them. They did, one was better quality and one was lighter, etc... They were the same brand, same company, made at the same time. Virtially identical, but when told to spot differences people found them when they didn't exist.
I watched that experiment and was stunned. I know people who will buy stuff just because it's expensive
This is true, for food also
It is true for alcohol. Not exactly fruit.
J Carter did i say fruit🙄? bbq, buffalo sauces, mayonnaise, peanut butter, pickles, olive oil, canned foods 😒 i use to work for a food company as QC and i watch labels go from lite, extra virgin, no fat, gluten free & they were ONE product made by the kitchen mixer and production workers just relabel them to sell it.
You tell them Lonnie!!!
If you are against animal cruelty you wouldn't want real leather anyway.
They bought it, because it had an expensive price tag. Well, my school was hosting a Fair Trade Fair that my grade participated in, and our design teacher told us a story about how one of the Fair Trade companies (who sell beauty products) had to up their prices in the U.S just to sell, because people wouldn’t buy cheap beauty products.
And none of them would shop Payless after they got some money!
Lol this reminds me of FAKE IT OR TAKE IT frfr
Its actually payless shoe source
