    Thanks for covering this KS, but looking forward to your customizations. I just think it’s a shame that it took 4 generations of Glocks for them to start making much needed changes to their design. All that being said, I like my Gen 4 Glock’s just fine, but the improved trigger and stock night sights are a HUGE plus going into the Gen 5’s. I did get to handle a G45 while picking up my FN 509 last week, and I have to say it was almost like handling a different brand of gun.......but in a good way. I *still* wish they’d made an alternate Glock 17 slide on a G19 frame cause I would have bought that bad boy right away!

      Gen 4s were a staple in the collection for many years and they indeed stand up well. That said, I have really enjoyed the changes on the gen 5s (with a few exceptions). You never know, they may do the 17 slide on the 19 frame. Many are asking for it! Thank you and cheers brother!

      The Gen 5 Glock 19 is a great gun , but the price tag is over $600. I completely understand about money issues! I have to put almost all my guns on layaway because of “cost of life” expenses. Instead of a Glock for now, how about a CZ P07 or a CZ P10c. Both are well under $500 and are super reliable. All they need in the way of upgrades are like Night sights (if you’re as into them as I am) and there are plenty of holsters and other carry add-ons. Have a great weekend by the way 😁

    I get a number of people really disliked the cutout, but it did have a purpose. When they flared the magazine well on the Gen 5 they removed the ability to pinch the magazines on the side to strip the magazine. Why you'd want to strip a magazine would include a failure to extract where the next round feeds against the empty case. You have to strip the magazine to clear the malfunction. Since you can't really grip the magazines on the side anymore, the cutout (which existed on earlier Glocks) allows you to get some leverage when coupled with the extended baseplates on Gen 5 magazines. So thumb up in the gap at the back of the frame and index finger up in the cutout to strip the magazine (I make my index finger into a hook shape and rest it on the lip of the baseplate). By removing the cutout you're now left with hoping you can hook your index finger on the front of the extended baseplate. I've tried it and it does sort of work, but since the baseplates don't extend passed the frontstrap it doesn't seem super reliable. The cutout also gave you the ability to hook the magazine on something if you were clearing the above malfunction one handed.
    I'd argue you never needed the flaring in the first place. Glock magwells have always had a bevel inside and the magazines are tapered. The angle at which you have to insert the magazine to have it not insert on a Glock without the flared magwell is extreme. I tested a Gen 3 versus a Gen 5 in this regard and it's really not significant. Glock could have had cutouts in the flaring, but frankly that would get close to defeating the supposed purpose of the flaring.

      If it only had appropriate sights out the box. $600+ for a Glock seems high, especially since you're at nearly $700 after sights.
      But I would agree, these new Generation 5.1 are what should have hit the market in the first place.
      I have been waiting for a G29 Gen 5, but I may pick up this G19 Gen 5 MOS first.

    That cutout on the original Gen5 G19 is located on what's commonly referred to as the front strap. That rear sight hanging over the rear of the slide reminds me of the old bullseye guns. They did that to make the sight radius as long as possible to aid in increasing accuracy.
    Thanks for taking the time.

      The difference in ejection is frankly nuts. I've never had great ejection from Glocks and out of the box with 115 gr ammo even (some Glock customer service rep is crying somewhere) it's all to the 3 o'clock about 7-10 ft. That alone almost makes it worth it to me.

    When I saw the original Gen5 19 I did not like the cut out. It pinched my pinky grip and it was a no go for me. When the MOS 19 came out with the front serrations and minus the cut out, I bought one immediately. I pick it up this Friday. This is what the Gen5 19 should have been from the start. I bought my first Glock last May 2018, the Glock 19 Gen 5. I’ve owned Berettas, Sigs and M&P. But the Gen 5 I tried at my local range as a rental and loved it. So I picked up a new one with the factory night sights and have been shooting and training with it exclusively since May. I shoot it well and the front cut out doesn’t bother me. I have since bought a new G17 Gen 5 and love that one also. But the G19 is my favorite. Since I have the G19 and G17, I can’t see where the new G45 would fit. The G19 is my EDC and G17 is a bedside gun. For now, I’m happy with the 19 and 17.

    I'd jump on a Glock 19 Gen 5 if it were just like the MOS, but without the MOS feature, which I'd never use. Love the absence of the half moon cutout. Love the forward slide serrations. That would be the perfect Glock 19 to me, and I'd be picking it up immediately were it offered.

    Those whining about the cutout to strip mags don't train. It has a specific purpose and removing it makes it more difficult to strip mags.

    • @KSGunGuy01
      @KSGunGuy01  5 лет назад

      Who's whining? I think it's exactly the opposite... the cutout placement is counter intuitive for those who actually train. Even Glock admitted it was wrong by way of removing it. If you look most other common carry/duty firearms that have indents for stripping mags, those indents are on the sides of the grip, not in front. You get significantly better leverage and have to torque your non shooting hand less when the indents are on the sides. Just a thought. Seems like the overwhelming majority (including experts) agree. Thank you and cheers!

    Good stuff as always.. it would appear that Glock is finally listening, who knows maybe loseing mkt share.?? I agree with you between marketing and excess inventory probably delayed these new models.. I have a G17 mos + Apex trigger and like it bought a Gen 5 19 less impressed did the trigger but never really liked the cut out. Sold it and got the 19X did the Apex trigger and milled for a RD and really like it . At 74 have arthritis in my my hands and wrist the X seems to have better balance at least for me.. I shoot it probably the best of any pistols I have. Bought a G45 last week and sent the slide to Lone Wolf forr milling (prefer milling to the mos). From dry firing the G45 seems to have the best trigger out of the box of any Glock I've had over the years. Sure seems like the on the right track.. thanks again..

    • @KSGunGuy01
      @KSGunGuy01  6 лет назад

      Thank you Mat! That’s a good point about market share. It’s entirely possible, especially with so many good options these days. The balance of the 19x makes sense for arthritis (I have it too). It’s interesting that you mention the trigger on the 45... mine is also probably the best I’ve felt. All good things indeed! Cheers brother!

    Personally, I like the look without the front slide serrations better. In previous generations, I also prefer them not to be there because they can get snagged when drawing and pressing through clothing. That said, that is a benefit of the nDLC coating in my opinion. These front slide serrations will be less apt to snag on things, yet they're grippy enough to rack the slide. I know the coating is a little slick for people, but when in the history of gun fighting have we heard a case of someone losing a fight because their bloody hand slipped during a reload? I'm not going to say it's never happened, but people tend to focus on things that are very very rare. I like the fact that it looks better and seems like it will hold up equally well.

    • @KSGunGuy01
      @KSGunGuy01  6 лет назад +1

      Although I prefer the serrations, I hear what you are saying. Agreed 100% because of the coating. Thank you and cheers!

    I hated that half moon cut in the front strap. To the point I was not going to buy a GEN 5, I was gonna stick with the GEN 4 if I decide to go with Glock as my CCW. One thing I'm not sure you noticed was that with the MOS they beveled the frame along with the slide unlike the original GEN 5 where they did not bevel the frame. If the next wave of GEN 5s look like the MOS without the red dot plate the GEN 5 is back in the running. I don't really need a red dot and I don't think the truglo tfx will fit with a red dot.
    Keep up the good work.

    • @KSGunGuy01
      @KSGunGuy01  5 лет назад

      I agree that the cutout was just out of place. I get why they did it but the reality is, it got in the way more than helped. You are correct on the beveling and this was not really a deep dive since that issue was resolved early on with the regular gen 5s. I think they had to use up some older frames with the first few waves (just a guess on that). Thank you and cheers!
