    Went to my local bank and asked for two dollar bills. They had one and it was in bad shape. I asked "when do you get new ones in?" They said they didn't get twos in. I said " so you don't get much call for them huh?" The lady said "OH yes, all the time". I said "Huh?, people ask for them but you don't carry them? Good thing you're not a retail business." "You would be out of business in no time flat"

    I have always been fascinated by $2 bills! Ever since my first niece was born in 1992 I started enclosing $2 bills, 50 Cent pieces, and $1 coins when they came out, in her birthday cards, as well as *every* child’s birthday card in my family & for friends children since then. I always encouraged the children and their parents to save some (if not all) of those notes and coins. (Don’t worry, they received “everyday” money they could spend, along with their gifts too. 😉 😊) Unfortunately, not a single person has _even one_ note _or coin_ that I’ve given them through the years. 🤷🏼‍♀️
    *Funny story:*
    For the past 20 years, or so, whenever I get paid, I go to the bank and get as many $2 they have just to spend in my everyday life. It’s always fun to see the expression on people’s faces when you pay for something with $2 bills. It never ceases to amaze me how many people don’t realize $2 bills are *real money* though. On more than one occasion I’ve had people flat out tell me that they aren’t real. However, no one can top the experience I had at a KFC several years ago. The young lady behind the counter was _extremely_ rude, telling me that I can’t use “Monopoly money” to pay for my food. I tried to explain to her that it was real, and if she didn’t want to take them as payment I’d gladly pay with a $20 bill. _However,_ she took it a step further and *refused* to give me my $2 bills back, and threatened to call the police on me for *FRAUD!* I asked for the manager, and _even he_ said that there isn’t any such thing as $2 bills; and now they *both* refused to give my money back to me, and I was told to leave and *never* come back. Finally, after a lengthy standoff, the manager finally called the police, telling them I was trying to pay for food with “fake” money. As soon as they called the police I sat my happy butt down and waited for the fun to begin. Both the cashier _and manager_ were taunting me, laughing while exclaiming how they couldn’t wait to see me carted off to jail in handcuffs. I just quietly sat there smiling.
    I’m sure you can picture their embarrassment when two police officers showed up, expecting to arrest some chic trying to commit fraud, only to finally be _convinced_ (yes, they had to be convinced, even from _two_ police officers) that $2 bills are in fact, *real money.*

      Happens fairly often, especially where the employees are poorly educated low wage workers. Also happens at gas stations owned by new immigrants. They sometimes think half and dollar coins aren't real money. So, before we fully implement artificial intelligence it would be a better idea to do something about natural stupidity.

    I’ve been lucky in the past asking bank tellers for 2 dollar bills. Really old ones came my way. I actually gave one away as a part of a tip because it’s condition was so bad it hurt to look at it. The bank should have destroyed it or sent back to federal reserve to destroy it. What I’d really like to find in my stocking in Christmas some day is a 5000 dollar bill. They’re way out of circulation which makes them so valuable. So I’d settle for a ten dollar coin. They can be worth a bunch of money depending on variables. Because the intrinsic value always stays put.

    ****I remember a story from an old friend that used $2 notes in giving change in his Texas Inspection business. People loved it, but few rejected them as if cursed. At Christmas he gifted some to his grandchildren and one went complaining to their mother and stated, "Why did Papaw give us fake money?" Loved the story, but miss the old guy more. Officially, the Series 1963A was the last issued red seal $2 note. That had been printed and issued til about the late 60's in limited quantities. It has the Fowler signature as Secretary of the Treasury, not Dillon's. Still worth keeping however.

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  5 лет назад

      Correct. We started this video thinking we would mention the A-G series of 1928s, the A-C of 1953 as well as the 1963A. But it got tedious so we took it out. Still interesting that the 1963 series in total had such a small printing before the bill was officially removed from circulation.

      That was the very last United States note ever issued by the federal government.
      So what's the deal with that?

    • @eyehatefarcebook11
      @eyehatefarcebook11 5 лет назад

      Roger Sheddy. Good point. Those are very scarce to rare. Here's the lowdown in my opinion. Most of those really didn't circulate because #1. The 1966 Series with the Granahan-Fowler signature combination was printed during a one month span in 1968 to fulfill the obligation of having a certain dollar amount of United States Notes in circulation. #2. Star notes in the 1966 series are quite rare, a very miniscule amount printed. #3. The 1966A with Elston-Kennedy signature combination printed in 1971; is going to be rare only because presumably most of those notes were destroyed in the 90's as they were remained in Treasury vaults marked as unissued.

    • @rogersheddy.8497

      I think you'll be interested to know...
      I looked into the wheresgeorge website and found right up top they had a whole bunch of the Red Seal 1966 series hundreds that they had marked and put back into circulation. There are also quite a few other bills that are collectible that they did the same thing with.
      I rather think those people are kind of dense.

      Honestly don't know much about $5s. We made a documentary feature film about the $2s ( amzn.to/2gpRKum ) and so a lot of research went there. Didn't have a need to learn much about any other denomination except when it affected the $2 bill. I imagine the red seal $5s are in fact worth just a little more than face value, unless the condition is pristine and perhaps if it has a star with the serial number.

      And, in fact, even with deficits could put an end to the federal income tax and use tariffs and deficit spending to fund government. This is how it was done throughout history. There was no Federal Income Tax for most of the history of the US. The key being not to run deficits so high that they cause high inflation.

    • @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
      @TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary  3 года назад

      The LETTERS always match. The numbers do not. The number on the lower right is the Plate Serial Number. The number top left is the position of where that bill was located on the sheet. Even I had to watch the video again to be sure, but that's how it works. The numbers themselves do not need to match. You do not have a bill with a mess up, but the fact that is is a 1963 with a red seal gives it a little more value.

      Star notes, like all bills, depend partly on condition and year. It's hard to even guess the value without that information. I would suggest searching eBay for star notes of similar-year $2 bills. They're only worth what people will pay for them.

      Thanks for the kind words. To answer your question briefly (because I don't think it warrants a full video), twos were already in decline due to lack of demand. They were only really being issued after the 1928 series to fulfill the legal requirements for United States notes. Then of course by 1976, no one was on the silver standard anymore. Without knowing the answer as 100% fact, I can safely say that there was no benefit to making silver certificate twos at all, and thus, supply was limited to the red seals.
