What is the USB? You twice describe it as 'this thing'!! What is it tho? I notice others have asked the same question and you don't appear to have answered. You ask for thumbs up, then please don't assume everyone knows what is in your usb and have to courtesy to respond to those that ask. Thank you
it might work with usb3 if you try. just try all of them. it might also be possible to set a setting in bios to disable usb3 or run usb in legacy mode, poke around. if still no help: which exact laptop model do you have the problem with?
Didn't work, I have tried multiple USB ports. Model is: svs15136pgb The USB ports all work... I have nothing in the CD drive or ROM. I have replaced my HDD with a Samsung 1TB 870 QVO 2.5in SATA SSD - it is definitely compatiable.

What external drive did you use. You just plugged a usb device in without showing it and describing it so was this an operating system on the usb ?

I’m pretty sure it’s just windows downloaded onto it from another computer
Bootable drive // usb with windows key on it so the computer has an operating system to boot up
what should I do if I have no usb 2.0 ports? i have only usb 3.0 ports
