REVIEW: ZINC by 118 Design

- Опубликовано: 11 июл 2024
- Braden over at 118 Design sent me their new open-source foam blaster sidearm: the ZINC. Its performance in such a form factor has few rivals, and the transparent plunger tube is an amazing aesthetic.
Overall, it's good to see some innovation in 3D-Printed springers, especially one of this size and with custom-machined parts. I'm really excited to see what Braden has for us next.
FAQ & Corrections:
-If you have any questions about products we sell on the shop, don't hesitate to shoot us an email: orders@outofdarts.com
-Q: Does the ZINC have slam fire?
A: No, the ZINC does not have Slam fire based on the current catch design.

So which blaster from the community should we review next? Let us know below!
^^wow^^
You should absolutely review the Viper. Break-action, FTW, Lipo revolver in short dart and full-length options. It looks *chef's kiss* noice.
If we're sticking with the small pistol category, the Gecko is a good contender. I would love to see your opinion on it.
please something somewhat affordable...
@@Moai_Manson OK?
i used to be a nerfer, now im an airsofter and man these nerf guns are becoming more slick and cool
Same
Same but I returned
@@ididweirdthings7810 me too
same here. I own some Rival guns and plan to continue buying the ones I like, but I’m really debating on buying some half length dart blasters. Between OOD and Coop772, it’s hard to not watch videos and then cause temptations lmfao
@@DuckOnASkateboard you should, dart zone has a pro line of blaster and they hit insanely hard
They also give you one full length dart magazine and one half length dart magazine (and a mag adapter, you just shove it into the blaster like a magazine, then it uses the half length mag, you can also take the adapter out like a mag)
Every day we revolutionize sidearm blasters, the closer we get to fully functional competitive revolvers. This is exciting!
the challenge with double action springer revolvers is that the hammer can only go back as far as you can pull the trigger, which works fine if its a firing pin that only needs to go a few mm, but doesnt work for a plunger tube
as soon as I saw that it was an external mag fed pistol I immediately wanted one
Not gonna lie, that is a slick design. Like a colt 1911 for DIY Blasters.
Gotta love seeing the DANC jersey
I think the overall blaster looks pretty cool. I like the size at its slim profile. I’ve got a Mark II and would consider building one of these if that catch/trigger pull was refined a bit.
I’d love to get my hands on either of those blasters... thanks for the review!
Oof, that trigger pull. Thanks for bringing that up, signed a person with weak hands
I'm just waiting for someone to develop eye seeking darts.
The Lynx does a similar 180 turnaround, really cool concepts.
I appreciate the captions!
This is a very cool pistol! I love how the plunger tube is exposed at the top and how it is so small. The backwards plunger system reminds me of the Lynx by Orion blasters. I don't know if you have done a review on it yet but if you haven't I'd love to see one! Thanks for the awesome video! 💜
2:38 uhhh yeah, ever seen a Lynx?
reminds me of a spring airsoft gun thanks you for putting one of my favorite songs in the intro
Great video. I like the idea of sidearm blasters but if I have to use two hands to fire it I’ll probably pass but it is a sweet blaster for sure. Keep up the great work.
Their was a blaster similar to this with slam fire on Walcom’s Instagram
Can’t wait for his review on it
Looks very cool
Nice blaster. I don't know why I didn't think of the grip tape idea. I've been trying to figure out a solution for the grip for a while for some of my blasters. Nice job 118
A second weak spring around one of the two steel guide at the side would help with the slide going forward by itself after you pull it. It'll also make the hold open feature seem more useful
Snagging a 2.0. I love the improvements.
Love the new wave of pistols that are coming out! I'd get this in a minute for one of our Jericho games, but I'd have to swap out for a spring that shoots sub 100fps for our urban games.
NGL I was waiting for that blaster to discharge when you were discussing the trigger lolol
Man, really wish it took Worker mags, but that thing looks incredible! Hope to see some full kits in the future!
An idea for that trigger would be a double trigger, like paintball uses; something that gives you two-fingers' worth of purchase for leverage against a tough trigger sear. Sounds like its really only tough because its a lot of pressure in a very small area and I doubt there is enough space to work in a completely new sear.
I wish the offered full blasters or at least full kits with the 3d printed parts. i dont have access to a printer.😥
If you really want one, have a look for local places that do 3D printing, it’s normally pretty cheap
@@vjhansen7280 this right here! Was gonna say the same
I wanna see threaded barrels for this with suppressors that have rifling inside.
THAT WOULD BE SUPA TACTICOOL
I'd like to see an in depth review of the Gecko and compare it to this Zinc!
i have to give props to the designer because when i first saw it i didn't believe it was a dart blaster it just looks like a plunger tube and grip and i didnt even see a barrel or magazine in it. so i give props to them for perfectly hiding the barrel and loading system
Superb review as always! Would you review the Zinc 2.0?
I'd love to see you make a CO2 powered Rival blaster
Why?
@@davedoesthingsdreaded it'll be interesting to see
I think the Kronos would be a good one to give it a little extra range and punch.
@@AutobotWarrior3376 definitely and with the rival rounds it'll be more accurate
@@garrettconnorton9849 more clean looking like an airsoft pistol
That thing is beautiful.
Omg I NEED ONE
Reminds me of a frommer stop pistol, very sleek build
Nice video! Please, open a shop over here in Brazil!
I don’t disagree with you often Luke... But I like the Zinc a lot more than the DZP Mk2... ;-) (whilst I own neither hahahah)
- Formfactor more intuïtive
- Prime at more logical positon
- Much more visually pleasing due to transparent PT
- But most importantly: mag in grip. Soo much more game friendly because of that. In 130 FPS capped games this can be run as a main and for that you need you want mag swaps. Not an internal mag.
Agreed. Although accuracy-wise, the Zinc is going to suffer quite a bit from that heavy trigger pull. But in that regard, you can carry a Dart Zone Pro Mk. II and whip that out for those occasional longer distance shot. You're essentially pulling a John Wick at that point, which is honestly pretty badass.
but you can't use this at 130 fps capped games.... 130 is the average fps, not the high end....not to mention the amount of tolerence issues since these are 3D printed, as well as that 3D printed blasters, in general, have issues with heat and warping, which on a blaster which already has tolerance issues as is, wouldn't be very good.
@@watyhu99 as someone who is predominantly involved in designing and developing 3D printed blasters... I have to object to that statement.
Also: if 130 is your cap... get a weaker spring. Make the prime easier ‘AND’ get rid of that heavy trigger pull in one go.
I stay with my preference. Zinc over DZ pro Mk. II
Btw.. the DZP also shoot harder than 130 fps.
@@nirodha7028 Object to what? the extremely tolerance issues the blaster has? Just because you like the zinc doesn't mean it doesn't have issues. Just getting the magazine to work well requires a crap ton of sanding to get it just right
@@watyhu99 the reverse is also true: just because the blaster has tolerance issues doesn’t mean I can’t like it.
I have no idea why you believe I would think my personal opinion on the blaster would be anything more than that. Let alone influence the characteristics of it... objective or subjective... as perceived by others (you included).
I wasn’t aware of tolerance issues since I haven’t built one yet. I mentioned this in my first comment.
Anyway. Thank you for sharing your opinion. As I have mine.
The "Goes-around-the-bend" airflow is quite similar to the Bullpump and the Piranha homemades, and semi-similar to the ELST. The closest thing in a pistol format would probably be the Northeast Designs Venturi. The ZINC is definitely very cool!
The strong trigger may be able to be fixed by changing the trigger to act more like a long lever that pushes up a catch than a straight back+angled section on the catch.
did you mean bullpup?
@@domsquaaa4323 i think he's referring to an old nic bullpup blaster design named the bullpump
@@domsquaaa4323 Edison is correct, the blaster is an old NIC blaster called the BullPump, a play on words of bullpup.
That rival drum mag on the background
Ooohhh, these look coooooool!
I need that blaster
That’s cool.
Review a breaking wind ??? Hehe, let us know if ya want one !
Alright boys, time to get buff to prime that K25
I love how we Re slowly getting closer and closer to having a nerf m1911
I want one now
Bugger, was hoping to buy one assembled
im no professional but im pretty sure if you cut a few coils off that spring it would help the trigger pull alot. its at maximum tension and the spring is probably putting way more pressure on the trigger being fully compressed. even looks like its being crushed slightly. try cutting off 1 or 2 coils and see how much easier it is.
I adore that thumbnail
Plunger reminds me of the Lynx (the 3D printed one)
My DZP MK ll just arrived in the mail as I’m watching this video. I shot my dad...... he wasn’t happy 😆
One time I shot my dad with a rival gun in the forehead
If there was an injection version of this blaster, I would love it
I’ve seen this blaster on the nerf subreddit. Do they sell spring replacements?
Except I live in the UK and so cannot get a DZP Mk 2. Would you consider selling them through your store and shipping internationally?
It's home made? What lubricant do you use for the piston?
Very nice secondary, lookin foward to get one in 2021, did you review the Gecko ?
We haven't yet! Stay tuned! - Perry
hi luke
im gonna be placing a big order soon:)
Hi! Thanks for supporting the shop!
what files do I print to get it to look like the blue one?
Edit: never mind I found out.
Looks so cool! Luke needs to start finger lifts
Hello again I really want to know a good blaster that comes fully assembled cause I don't know to assemble anything thanks in advance
Hey man I'm interested in buying a zinc blaster, but I don't a 3D printer any suggestions?
Where do you find all of the designs? I want to see other community-made 3d printed designs but I don't know where to find them.
I'll certainly ask Luke, but we do now have a playlist dedicated to Community Designs. Take a look there for any blasters you haven't seen yet - Perry:
ruclips.net/p/PLtA_zHlCv2AJNvOR3xtmGFuIW2lD9NsWX
Still see that rival edge helios on the wall 👀
I've got a DZP mk2 and what actually kills the zinc for me is the printed mags. I've had terrible luck with printed magazines. I've heard secondhand that there may be a model of the zinc later that takes angled talons, if that's a thing I'll probably have to pick one up or print one.
You should review the Viper short dart revolver.
God I want that thing
I need one If these
But it is sold out and I dont have a 3D printer
Interesting, but not everybody has their own 3D printer. If it's not available as a full kit somewhere it has a restricted market.
I'm still not sure if I should buy DZP Mk II or the ZINC
YEEESS finally a mag fed pistol!!!
well, there were a couple other options that came out a few weeks/months before this. This one just sort of made even those obsolete
Docs stim pistol from Rainbow Six Siege 😳
Would these go on sale at the shop nowadays?
you could easily take the internals from this, lengthen the spring tube and barrel and turn this into a bolty
When will we be able to buy these things assembled? I love this compact little pistol, the plunger tube acting as the priming slide is ingenious!
No, currently they are only being sold as parts kits.
@@outofdarts do you know of any one that sells a kit for either version of the Zinc that includes the printed parts?
not just the hardware?
Odd question, what is your height? I’m trying to proportion this blaster to myself
Couldn't that trigger pull be fixed with a longer trigger thst allows for two fingers?
All they need to do is upgrade the trigger, and we're in business.
Or at least tune it up a bit. I feel like it's more of the friction that causes the pull to be heavy and not the mech.
Reminds me of the Frommer Stop Pistol.
Folks have mentioned the lynx and some other blasters, but the basic principle goes all the way back to the M.O. by MakeItGo, an old school modder on nerfhaven.
I've been out of nerf for a bit what darts are you shooting are they new?
The darts shown are Adventure Force (AF) Pro Half-Lengths. They're available at Walmart. - Perry
Does it come with the normal 3D Parts or do you really need to print it yourself?
Currently it's only available as a hardware kit, so you would have to 3D print the body and mags yourself. - Perry
Doesn't the Lynx use a similar turnaround air and chambering system
What type of plastic was used for the printing?
I believe this one was made in PETG.
I cant wait to see someone make an HPA blowback pistol of some kind that works similar to this.
Mechanisms of this blaster can be used for bolt action rifle like Mosin Nagant, or kar98k 🤔🤔🤔
I just got a dzp mk2 and it was wild to see that this blaster is selling for the price of a dzp mk2 as a hardware kit and not a full baster or at least in pieces to assemble. If the trigger is figured out and if the mag can be able to fall out on its own without having to pull it out, that would be cool too.
5:35 the center of the tip of your index is the part your gonna fire with in a real firearm foots makes sense that the trigger guard is rather a tight squeeze
Problem is I can barely fire it with the tip of my index...
Reminds me of Tempest Webley.
I'd prob make a Zinc only because the MKII is not available in my country.
I'll take your entire stock
It's literally if a Beretta 9mm was nerf gun. 1. Trigger well should definitely be larger, 2. The trigger weight can be tuned pretty easily by the end user, it's going to be determined by the angle and friction on the sear, as well as how clean the edge of the sear is. You can probably clean it up yourself, lube it, and if you really want put a metal plate on the face to make the trigger pull super light.
Do you sell this on your web store and ship to Australia?
We do not sell the ZINC. Please contact 118 Design about availability and shipping.
That thing is begging for a slide return spring and hold open
the rival enemy for the dart zone pro mk2
My 11 year old son might join the next ranger October feast. what is the FPS limit and age minimum?
Hi! It's great to see interest in Ragnaroktoberfest! While the 2021 event has already been cancelled, pay attention to the event website and Facebook for up-to-date information regarding Age limits and FPS caps in future events.
Es perfecto amigo donde puedo comprarla si soy de España?saludos
Would you carry the Zinc 2.0 on your shop?
Does it have slam fire?it looked like it in the demo on reddit
No, It does not have slam fire with the current catch mech.
I like your shirt
Putting your whole knuckle in the trigger guard in order to squeeze will result in pulling the firearm and in turn, your shot right. just a side note not calling anyone out promise.
Sounds like a reversed plunger like how it was used in the nerf recon cs-6
Luke how do you feel about hyper making rival obsolete the moment the proton pack comes out
Hyper doesn’t make rival obsolete
Theoretically, he probably can make the proton pack work with Hyper. They're both balls, but different size. Depending on Hyper's diameter, might even be possible to create a blaster that fires both Rival and Hyper, so you can use both Rival and Hyper in the Proton Pack.
