In this vlog I meet the Lovely narrowboat life unlocked and finally get through lock 74 which has been closed for months onto the Trent and Mersey canal. I give lock lessons to son in law. I totally agree. I watch people change throughout the night. They start off quite and mild and end acting emotional, aggressive and weird the more drunk they get.

Bless Coco I think she might have adopted you, how sweet was it seeing her following you and checking in on you. Could see you with a lil fur baby with you on your travels. Can fully understand how you spoke about being in pubs and bars and how anxiety inducing it is. Huge props to you for coming thru the other side 🤗
I do love dogs. Maybe at some point I will get one. I go off all the time and I'd hate to leave a dog in my boat.

Morning will, yeah them labels, and helping folks, we have a private moring all 5 houses do, don't mind folks using mine as I have never had a paddle board nevermind a boat, my next door neighbour is cut from the same cloth, I was born in the back to backs in the meadows nottm, had jack all as a kid being 1 of 6 kids, me Dad died when I was 6 and struggle, my friend we struggled, step Dad came along when I was 12 and didn't want another blokes kid, I was the youngest of 6 and the only one left at home, he put me in care, me mam didn't want it but she had 2 kids from him by this time, so I was taken to Beachwood kids home on Woodborough rd mapperly where unspeakable things happened to me, anyway at 15 I got an apprenticeship in a garage and completed that, but I had discovered drink by then and boy did I drink, opened a small workshop in forest fields and did well, but suffered all the shenanigans that drink brings, scrapping with folks giving the coppers a leathering, flogged the garage and ended up in Lincoln nick for 15mth where I discovered heroin, another bad path, anyway cut a long story short the police came one day and was asking me about the kids home, this was 30 years later, apparently they had found kodak photos of me and many others, and recounting the abuse did 2 things, sent me crazy and lifted a weight my family had disowned me long past but I got another spell in the nick and got my head round the situation to a degree, met a lady and used my city and guilds as credits and did an open university HND in motor vehicle technology, I had moved to Birmingham to get away from Nottingham and worked at Scania, fast forward to 5 years ago we had got 30k from the case against Nottingham City Council for the abuse and sold the house the mrs had and brought this in a nice quiet area, shunned these people were stuck up their own proverbial, walked into the local it went quiet, now I am 6' 2' and the Mrs said you look a rough bogger that's why, nooo, I was not cut from the same cloth, they laid down the rules, they got a piece of my mind, a chap and his Mrs moved next door and we soon found out we was not dissimilar, and we had a ball allowing folks to use the mooring when the marina was full or anytime, moving on to today, I go in the local and always get a warm welcome, Beer is not an issue though I do like a bottle of remy Martin every few mth and me and the neighbour are like brothers, jump on the train and have a couple of beers together love an old cask or craft beer, I can have 2 sometimes 3 and that's it, but I always know its a devil l, so labels Will, its them that stick them on you are the arseholes, and helping folks, all day long, you keep doing your thing me duck, your a decent chap, your path is your path, nice nippers as well laddo, have a cracking day and I know the score, Big Gaz.
Blimey, you've had a rough start my old fruit.
I think it does make a person appreciate life more in the long run..

I’m sure most folk fully understand your reluctance to avoid pubs. I’ve seen how destructive alcoholism can be and the constant battle those who are afflicted with it have to go through. Stay strong mate. All the very best. Come down to the Kennet and Avon and I’ll treat you to a coffee and cake👍

I can look back now and talk about it, but at the time, I was so embarrassed. I don't mind missing some things Robert. I'd rather stick to an early to bed and early to rise routine. 😴
Great vlog as usual Will. You must have more viewers than they are saying. I think you are inspirational in terms of your past challenges in your life and how you are still so positive. You seem to have such a great relationship with your children you must have done something right. I like how you show the highs a lows of boat life with still being entertaining. As a part time (one day full time) narrowboater you are motivating to other boaters. Thank you.

I love music like that. I literally sleep to binaural notes or meditation type music every night. Bought a singing bowl the other month. Highly recommend! It's really therapeutic. 🙂

So much to love in this episode... and Tiller Man gave me a bit of a fright jumping up like that! 🤣 When I was little, I used to sit and watch my relatives get smashed at Christmas parties and that was enough to put me off drink and smoking... they've saved me a fortune. It's great to recognise it was just something you had to go through and to be so open about it. 🙌 Now I realise why the behind the scenes ballet is so important to you. Expressive... 🤣🤣

You have come a long way turning your life around fighting with your addictions, and your devotion on keeping regular contact with kids when they're little no matter how far they were away from you. i can understand where you're coming from with the drinking , my stepmum died from liver failiure , it was an aweful sight to see , it certainly stopped me from drinking , but i was starting to slow down anyway , as i suffered with migraines since i was 18 , so i decided to completely stop drinking because of it , & don't miss it all now , i always have cappos when we go for lunch lol . i bet you're glad you're on the move again .
I lost everything really. Work, family, house.
I'm a much better person from it now. Yey!

I use magix music maker software and my Keylab essential 49 and software that comes with it. Hope that helps. 🙏
Lock 2 lower pond in 2 other videos it was low and they hard problems getting to the next lock because they grounded on the port side on the corner.

Hi Will, I was interested in the Makin Music site you were using. It looked a lot easier than Garage or the others I've seen. Like you I've a Keyboard with the Notes on the keys. I play Saxophone and can read music but would like to make some backing tracks to Jam too. Thanks Will. Another great content Vid.
I use music maker Pro edition. It comes with some great software. It's complex though, learning how to use these music software programmes. My keyboard is a keylab essential 49 which comes with amazing software package as well..Good luck.

I always found that the narrow boat community always had time for a chat . To be honest will .I have found that people who live in towns and cities are always in a rush.??

Hi will, I have just returned from a trip on the Brecon canal ..my friend still has a narrow boat there..
I'm glad I took the opportunity to use the boat for a few days...I have to be honest with you. It showed me that I was no longer able to operate a lock on my own..
However I did manage to service the engine and gearbox for my friend..
I found that if my friend Ben had not been along for the ride I think I would have given up and put the boat back on it's mooring..
There is a rumour that they are trying to open the canal between Bristol and Brecon..if they do it would be great for boaters and the towns along this stretch of the canal system....
But like everything else it comes down to funding for it to happen.. anyway will keep smiling mate . And please keep putting out your videos for people like myself to view.

35 years sober it can be done. now when I go to a bar it is to people watch and it just reinforces my commitment instead of the temptation to start drinking again. It seems the ones who rail against drinking the hardest fail the most often. I have seen it over and over again. If it becomes an obsession and it is all you think about and talk about 9 out of 10 will start drinking again. People were scared of me because of drinking so even the hardcore drunks supported me in not drinking. I had no fear of death in a fight or behind the wheel. Fight the good fight but don't make it who you are.
I'd just don't need to watch others drinking. I just stay out of pubs in the evening. Breakfast and lunch it's fine. Good for you being sober..👍👍
