One of my sons years ago was working at a tyer fitters and they wanted him to fit a defective tyer ,he refused sead if someone got hurt he would never forgive his self .they sead that if he didn't fit it he would get the sack ,he walked out, he did right. Bless him.
He did the right thing. When I was a mechanic. We literally had the owners' lives in our hands. I used to constantly worry about leaving nuts loose or forgetting something. It's quite stressful when you care about others.
Will, my hobby is woodworking ( flat work and lathe). I think you did a bang up job on replacing your crotch. Well, not YOUR crotch but the boat’s crotch. The sign of a good craftsman is that he’s never quite satisfied with the job he’s done. I wish I had been there while you were working. There’s nothing like having a bloke looking over your shoulder telling you how to do the job. That’s when you realize that you know more than the old fool who thinks that he does. Best wishes, Tom.

That cratch cover looks like new! Lovely job. PS my pet peeve, mechanics who take women to the cleaners, with their car repairs . I have yet to find a mechanic I trust, like my brother or father…😓

Nice stories about garages not servicing cars properly, 38 years ago I had my first car, used Ford main dealer to service it. Went home about 1/2mile from the garage and my dad said check your oil, typical 17yo I thought he had lost it, I pulled the dipstick and the oil was black. Went back to the garage and hit the roof with them, apparently an oversight, my arse.
Always check your cars after they have been into garages os my advice.
Absolutely. My mate phoned halfords and they said there's no way of checking how old the oil was. If you've been around oil like I have, then you'd know. It was gritty, and It stunk of burnt old oil. He's lucky to be alive.

That front end is looking sharp buddy, nice job considering you've spent very little just bit of blood, sweat and tears also no doubt swearing in the mix.
Canopy will come clean using washing up liquid a few times as you've done.
Oil service i do check too after service usually can tell as they over pour onto the top of the engine and it flows down the sides of the engine causing a lovely burning oil smell.
Im fussy about who works on my car, Halfords/ Quickfit a big NO NO in my books so many NO's id fill my chat 😅

Ok your tool review i was sitting here next to the pool thinking a torch must be on Wills list, come on 😅 ..So you do have them all over the boat ❤ bet you've not got one IN THE TOILET 😊....
I think soap /swarfega to keep those hands nice is essential tool too along with blue roll...😅
Anyway kev the brinklow kayaker needs a dip in the pool to cool off, you have fun and stay safe.
Hope your lads boat is ok and fixable at a low cost.

I must admit that's one of the best crotches I've seen this year😊, I was a consumables sales rep for 40years and dealt with BMW, Honda,Triumph and Harley -Davison in Manchester I agree with you over the engine sound but I always thought the Triumph looked the best with their Retro models, Great vlog Will glad you srill enjoying Glasson, take care.😊

Well I don't feel so bad now Will. Some of my old wooden windows in my 114 yr old house looks like that too. I just keep painting them and 'filling in the cracks" too. lol The day you might do "window glazing" (replace windows and seal all around the edges) I'm going to watch carefully. Need to learn how and your such an EXPERT Will. Lots of HEAT coming across the pond to you folks. It's a balmy 95 F here in the mid US. YUCK Stay cool. Park under a tree if you can. Take care.

Hi Will. A finger full ov vaseline on each runner just behind the front (inside) of your fully closed hatch will stop the drips inside your boat. It stops it running back. Simples. Bob

I'm a 1st timer too but bought mine off my brother. I've had to have it over plated blacked and all sorts. All very expensive. I'm yet to take mine out and crapping it 😂

Another High St. Horror Story: The wife of a friend of mine dropped her hubby in town and then took her car into KwikFit to get the exhaust fixed. After about 15 minutes the mechanic came into the waiting and asked her to accompany him into the workshop. Her car was on the lift and the mechanic showed her "fluid" that was leaking from all four shock absorbers and told her they all needed replacing.
As luck would have it her hubby returned at that moment, took one look at the shock absorbers and asked to see the manager.
Turns out that the 'fluid leaking from the shocks' was WD-40, sprayed on by the mechanic, who admitted that his foreman had told him to do it.
Wow! I couldn't live with myself ripping people off.
Luckily, her husband was mechanically minded..

The flock of birds flying together, changing directions, etc. and the noise their wings make is called "murmuration". Starlings are well known for this. New one for me too. Good ol' google.

Thanks for the advice on boating.l think that might have been a grip of a bike.Try farming if you want a 24/7way of life ,l have to admit it l would’nt want it any other way.By the way,new tractors aren’t checked anymore l think the worst one lasted about an hour 😂
Where's has all the British pride gone. I remember shop priding themselves on quality products and top service.
Now it's just based on profit and sod the customer.
I even watched a guy on youtube pay nearly a million for a motorhome and nothing worked properly. Even the hot and cold were the wrong way around.
Do it yourself...in my view.
Hey Will great vlog buddy and your boat looks fantastic. I have a mechanic that I have used for years and when I collect my car after servicing I can feel it drives much better. Stay away from the big chains rippers its all about profit over actual service. Good to hear about Leon even though its not great news anyway I will see you and tiller man on the next one 👍 👌 😂

The panel looks brilliant Will and the cover really cleaned up well, great work as always was definitely worth doing it with winter on its way and the crazy winds. Does the cover have a water proof coating or do you have to recoat it with that heavy duty waterproofing spray every year? I bet you really didn’t want to leave the basin it really is a beautiful gem I’d never heard of Great post Will especially covering the essential toolkit for boat owners. You should definitely do a more on the ultimate essentials on most common repairs I’m sure there are plenty of other narrowboater newbies that would find your expertise and experience so useful. One top tip my g grandpa taught us was to always have an archive folder with all of the user manuals in and make sure to always update it whenever you buy something new, that has saved me so much money 🤗
I have saved every receipt possible. I daren't add them all up. 😂 🤣
My cover is impregnated with some sort of resin, but I do spray it with a wax oil type spray.

We took our previous car to Mercedes Will for a service, 'just to keep the service history up-to-date' in-between I serviced it myself more often than required, on the invoice was oil, fuel, and air filters, when I got the car back I was underneath a week later and noticed the fuel filter was the one I fitted and not Mercedes OE which they use, I then checked the other filters and they also had not been changed, but we had been invoiced for them, as it was a week later I knew they would refute it, but I did tell them at reception what a bunch of bandits they are in front of customers, robdags.
That's so disgraceful. These big name garages are a rip-off in my view. Find a little back street garage you can trust.
What material is your cratch cover made from? I made my own but not happy with the material I used.
It's canvass impregnated with like a resin. It cost my £750 to have it made. Details in previous vlogs..
you've done a really great job with the front WILL , it looks great 👍 i think everybody should have a little tool kit , wether you've got a car or boat , or just for the house, ive got my own too lol , hubbys mates think it's strange that a woman needs a tool kit , my hubby's like you , he fixes all his own cars , he does'nt the garages .

when buying a boat ,you ask for the documentation about it ,when it was last checked for insurance ,,ie hull ok ,had a fire safety check when engine was last serviced etc ,,or you get a independence surveyor to check the boat over ,as once you buy a boat the seller is not really responsible for it ,,only new ones have guarantees ,if no. documentation is produced you walk away from it

I've got six volt trojans deep cycle x6. If I had to choose again. I'd get lithium because they're light, and I can use more of the power stored.

Hey Will, the joke for us non-HD riders was something like.... how do you tell where an HD has been, just follow the trail of oil. 😄 I've ridden most of my life but, my bike (Yamaha Raider) stays parked most of the time these days. I guess I'm getting to the point where I (i.e. my body) value comfort and quite more these days. It's hell getting old(er). 😁

@@NarrowboatWill It's a 2009 Yamaha Raider. They stopped production of them a few years ago. We have a Raider Rally every year in the mountains of North Carolina (any and all bikes are welcome) and there's a group of folks from England that ride the same bike, and they have shipped their bikes over here 3 or 4 times over the years to attend then they spend a week or so riding across the country. I think the name of their group is the Yamaha Custom Club. There are a few of them that are planning on coming over this year.

Brilliant Will your right when the lady from the boat sales showed me round my boat , I said what's the engine like ? She said oh it's under here it's yellow !! Not a clue like you said they only show buyers the boat !! I always remember down at Christchurch boat Auctions at Tuckton Bridge as the Auctioneer bashed his hammer down shouted sold with All Faults & Assets 😏 !!

Use ‘Wet n Forget’ for your cratch covers Will. We picked up the tip-off of the Widebeams and Wellingtons’ site. It’s brilliant. Gets rid of all the crap and keeps it clear for ages.
Where do I get wet and forget? Is it a cleaning agent? 🤔
@@NarrowboatWill it’s a cleaning and de-molding solution. It’s available on Amazon. Dilute 1 to five and wipe on. Lasts (keeps all fungi at bay) for about 6 months.
Great run down on the tools Will. I haven't used a pair of mole grips for years, I need to get a pair.
I've got a few pairs. Always handy when my nuts get stuck. 😂 🤣

Metal boat= a welder, grinder, welding hood, expendables. Plumbing tool box. Painting stuff, always painting. Stuff for the stove. It is never ending, I can look at a boat and see at least 5 things off hand that need fixing without even trying. Need another boat to haul the stuff you need for upkeep, just kidding. The 2 happiest days of a boat owners life is the day he buys it and the day he sells it. It's a sickness I say! Go to 45.838331. -103.728088 on Google maps and this is the first boat we built, A Bruce Roberts design trawler. We built it out of oil field scrap in 84-85. Had a 4 cylinder inline Cummins diesel in it. The only water it has seen is rain and snow.
At the moment I'm ripping out my gas boiler because it's had it. I tried lighting it. I'm sure it's blocked but it's given me nothing but trouble. I'm putting a diesel heater in. Vlog coming. Recent gearbox rebuild. Alternator rebuild. Vlogs coming. Never ending. 😂 🤣 😆
