I use Sony for professional work, and Fuji for personal photography. The latest Fuji cameras have autofocus that’s a little less reliable than the A6400. If I’m shooting a wedding, I’m taking my full frame Sony. If I’m with friends or traveling, I’m taking my X100VI.
Welcome to the team! I have been following you for a few years and you helped me decide to go with the a7c instead of the a6600. I got the Fujifilm bug a short time later chasing an x100v. Never found one at retail but ended up with an x-e4, x-pro3 and x100vI. To fully get the Fujifilm experience you have to try both interchangeable and fixed lens models. I shoot portraits with an a7iv with the Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8 and an x-pro3 with the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2. Can’t wait to find out what other Fujifilm body you bought.
Welcome!! I used to watch loads of your videos, when I was on Sony (A6400). Then, a year ago, I purchased a Fuji X-T1 for €200 and there was no coming back… So welcome to Fuji, hope you will stay!
Arthur I have been following your channel for quite a while now even though I am a Fuji shooter. Let me say welcome to the Fuji community. Yes the AF is not on par with Sony or Cannon but there is a lot more to it. You have expressed it quite well why we shoot Fuji. May I suggest your next lens options .. 35mm F1.4 Amazing even though it is older and AF is not great but amazing lens. 23mm F2 16mm F1.4. I had an X-E3 that I regret selling but I got more for it used this year than what I paid for it new. The go to channel for anything Fuji how to is @Pal2tech. Looking forward to more content especially Fujifilm and your pictures looked amazing ! Ty
I went from Pansonic to Sony to Fuji and finally landed on the Leica format. Many older Leica digital cameras can be found for under $1000. You can even acquire a relatively modern Leica CL that has the L-mount for under the price of a new Fuji. There is even a cheaper version called the TL that can use low cost auto focus L-mount lenses from Sigma or adapt any manual lenses on it. Please try the lower cost Leica cameras before spending more money on a Fuji. You will not regret it. The colors out of the Leica sensors are hard to beat. They are not the fastest things in the world and definitely not for video but if you like photography, you really cant go wrong with a used Leica.
Have shot Sony apsc forever but have always wanted a Fuji for fun. Your opinion is always on par with apsc reviews so it’s cool to see what you have to say about Fuji. Looking forward to your next video
Ive tried that way and regret it. You paying more for getting less. I you wanna try something else I suggest Olympus. Way cheaper than Fuji, with infinitelly better lens selection and features beyond their price point plus color science better than Fujifilm.
@@jordanquinn2769 You can buy all those lenses on Sony for cheaper price with 10 times more units on used market, with properly working autofocus ofc. You can compare lenses like 70-350 vs fuji equivalnent or 90mm macro with fujinon. Sony is just as good, if not better, for almost half the price. Plus you can switch lenses between apsc and FF, with fuji you are stuck with apsc. As I said - you paying more for getting less. Olympus? I suggest ones with 20mp sensor. These are more modern bodies with more features. Besides that, if you buy anything thats Mark II, you will be good.
Arthur you guided me through Sony cameras and lenses for years. Then switched to Fuji and I have missed your reviews. So it is great seeing you dip a toe into Fuji and getting your take on it. I look forward to more reviews, you haven’t been away, I have been away, welcome back me! 😅
Very interesting video. I have several X series Fuji bodies and, about 12 months' ago, purchased a S10 in the, totally misplaced hope that Fujifilm had resolved the ongoing AF issues- NO ! As need pretty fast AF for head shots, mobile young children and more. Solved the problem by simply purchasing a mint 2nd hand a6400 and a new Sigma 56 1.4- problem solved. Have absolutely no idea why Fuji just doesn't devote some R and D to nailing AF. Otherwise, just love my Fuji's apsc, though have no desire, or need, to purchase 1 of the newer mega sensor monster bodies, the image IQ from my current bodies is just great.
I’ve been using my X-T3 for some time and I absolutely love it. I wanted a second body and decided on something more compact. I picked up a mint used X-E2s and I think I love it just as much. They’re very similar yet very different at the same time and I enjoy using them both.
I get the feels vs fashion that you started with. Way back in 1969 I was 20 and bought my first SLR, a Minolta SRT 101 I loved the feel of it in my hands, loved the sound of the shutter, and the lenses were very high quality. Minolta used to make their own glass, then make their own lenses, and sometimes was in partnership with other camera companies. Of these, one was Leica. Yep, back in the 1960s/70s Leica was using some Minolta lenses. A week or two ago, and in a fit of nostalgia, I went looking for another SRT 101. I bought one and it's on it's way from Japan to me in Australia. Near mint condition and with a Rokkor 50mm 1.4 lens. So some of the old romance is back, there's the feels. And with the Leica connection from those days, also some of the fashion, even if not so easily recognizable.
Hello Kim. My 1st film camera was a Konica C35 rangefinder. Then I added a Minolta SRT201 and loved it. Finished film with an XGM. I started following Arthur, and he was helpful getting me started with an A6000 five years ago, and all the lens that would go with it. Happy shooting.
Welcome to the Fuji platform! I have been following your reviews for years and always thought in the back of my mind that, as an APSC-focused channel, you should try out the Fuji system. I am glad to hear you are enjoying it! I shoot professionally with my Canon RF gear, but use Fuji for all my personal stuff (family, street, etc.). It is undeniably more fun than the other platforms and just inspires me to go out and shoot. I am also a dad of a two year old, and there is never any time to process RAW files like I used to. Being able to use SOOC JPGs and lightly tweaking them in my phone if needed speeds up the workflow considerably. It also helps that you can see your "film simulation" while you take the photo too, which just inspires you to continue shooting. If you try out the newer models (like the X-T5 or X-S20), the AF performance is not as far off as the other platforms, especially when coupled with the right lenses (such as their newer LM WR primes with the linear motors). The Viltrox 13 1.4, 27 1.2, 75 1.2 and Sigma 10-18 and 18-50 also work wonderfully on this platform too.
Quite a turn around in finding your channel again due to this video. I learned a lot from you back in 2017-8 when using my first camera, the sony a6000. Then a few years later, got the fujifilm x100v, enticed by the film simulations and manual controls. Shortly after I sold all sony gear for fujifilm x-t4. I agree that in general, autofocus to this day still is Fujifilm's biggest problem. Your description of the "feeling" is spot on. The camera and images it produces give me the fun feeling of photography I had with my parents back in the 90s. Glad to be back in following your channel :D will catch up with the older videos too!
yay! welcome to Fujifilm!!! I also have had most of the Sony APS-C and full frame cameras until I made the FUjifilm switch a couple years ago. I use the XH2 for work and the XT4 for play
Welcome to the club! Really enjoyed this measured take on the Fuji system. (also, as an Oregonian, I see quite a few familiar places in your slideshow -- hope you enjoyed your visit!)
I came across this XE2S a month ago at a random store and tried it out. I fell in love with everything FUJIness about this this body. But what really sold me in the end was actually the pop-up flash! You can use it as a foward flash or even a ceiling flash if you pull it backward with your finger😂. Very useful. Now I use it exclusively with my broken vintage leica lenses. Absolutely loving it!
I switched from Sony (NEX3, A6000) to Fuji (XT20, XT30, XS10) some years ago. Before I followed Arthur's channel. Still sometimes watching his videos. I like the way to operate the camera from external buttons and wheels, Sony menue always was confusing to me. And I love the film simulations of course. It opens a universe of possibilities if you dive deeper into it and start to create more custom looks. Autofocus is not so bad as often described. There are a lot of tuning tools which you have to adjust to get it right (custom presets, focus area/method...). There are some good videos about it online. Some photographers are able to get great sports photos with Fuji. But you have to learn in detail how to use your camera.
Last year I bought a X-E1 and this thing is amazing. After comparing all 5 generation sensors, the X-Trans1 is special. It renders colours like no other fuji does. Yes the AF is slow AF, and there are less film emulations, but what you get straight out of cam makes up for it. And I'm using manual lenses anyway, so I prefer manual focus and zone focus.
Wonderful little camera as long as you don’t expect miracles from the AF. I have the X-E2 and I love using it, love the colors, love the B&W, love using manual focus lenses with it. With the MF I take more time, ending up with results I like even more. Doesn’t have to cost much either, I am constantly amazed how cheap manual lenses like the TTArtisan 17mm/1.4, 35/1.4 and 50/1.2 compare to much more expensive lenses. OTOH use a pancake 27/2.8 and you are set to go. The 16mpx Xtrans 2 sensor is lovely (although you always have people who prefer the Xtrans 1 or 3 etc over the 2). Sorry for the rambling, but I just like this little camera.
If you look for vintage picture it's a good option to get old manual lenses, f.e. Soviet МИР-1 (MIR-1; 37mm, f2.8) or Гелиос 44-2 (Helios 44-2; 58mm, f2.0): 1st has nice colors of picture, the other has amazing vignette. I'd like you to give it a try. They're pretty cheap nowadays, but with modern cameras the result is stunning!
You're right! And I think you're still missing a bit of the fuji experience with the 35 XC. You don't get the full tactile experience of the system that comes with the aperture ring! I own that XC and it's nice but today again i was out with the 18-55 kit lens and it was sooo good. I recommend that, when you have the money, you pick any of the f2 XC, according to your liking in term of focal length or the 27 pancake (then you get also an almost pocketable camera). Again the XC is great, particularly in term of IQ, but the feel with an aperture ring is way better. And the Fuji primes are so nice.
I went from Canon FF to Sony APS-C, works for me, but am currently looking at an old Olympus as a possible addition to the collection. I like the look of the shots from the Fuji, so looking forward to finding out what the next one is! Great Video, Arthur.
I do like that the camera you purchased has a D-Pad on the camera back. The D-Pad adds some some additional buttons that can be programmed to various camera functions that you choose. Newer models of the XE line do not have a D-Pad. Best wishes, & happy times with your camera.😊
I switched to Sony with the A6000 10 years ago. Way back before you were born I sold tonnage of Fuji AX series film cameras and my first personal digital cameras were all Fuji. If my memory is correct the old Fuji ST801 still holds the record for the most LEDs in the viewfinder.
This is why I stopped installing firmware updates on my Fuji X-T3, the AF is good, I have gimbal for video (I don't mind the lack of IBIS) and for photo I never had any issues with the AF (I shoot mainly portrait and street photos). My friends with X-T5 and X-H2/H2s are suffering from really weird AF issues on the latest firmwares and they started to downgrade the firmware versions. I appreciate the superior AF performance on Sony cameras but I love F-Log or Eterna for video and Classic Chrome for photo and this helps me to reduce the time I have to spend on post processing.
I follow your channel, you brought me to Sony (A6400), I bought the Sigma trio which I loved (the 56mm, wow) . But the amount of colour correction I would have to do on Sony turned me off and made me sell it all and switch to Fujifilm. Far too much editing to make a photo look 'right'. I'm now using an XT-4, Fuji 23mm + 35mm 1.4 and the Viltrox 75mm (beast). My photos have never been better and minimal editing. Yes, the Autofocus is not quite as good but I can live with that compromise for the better photos.
i been following you in my early sony days. i bought a fuji as i was tired of sony (old) colors back then and i have to edit so much just to match the vibes. after using fuji i still found the flaws in their system but regardless i still enjoy both system. Fuji will be always a good light go-to apsc system while i use my sony for heavy commercial shots. my 1st fuji was the xt10 and i miss it alot. the only big reason why i upgrade to my current xt3 was the raw file support from capture one. older fuji doesn't have much raw support from Capture one. if you do alot of post processing you definitely need the extra raw support from capture one
I just purchased a XE2 from Craigslist for $360 with battery and charger. Was feeling good about the purchase. Just went to NYC for a week of street photography. I checked the Craigslist listings and they were more expensive than the prices in Seattle. I found a XE2 in NYC for $300. That made me sad I spent $60 more. That was a good price. I also found a LUMIX GX85 for $300 and purchased that. Maybe not as competent as the XE2 but definitely a fun body. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I still have my X-E1 and I still love its organic feel. I use it mainly with vintage lenses, the focus peaking is not great as it has only white colour to pick from, but the magnifier does help a lot.
I think nowadays the Fujifilm X-T30 (the original one) is a better beginner camera if you want to get into the Fujifilm system. The AF is much better, the video quality is fine and the images are superb. The X-T30 II is better in speed and have more film simulations, but I don't think worth the extra money. If you don't have a kink for a vintage layout, the X-S10 is even better, it has IBIS and even better AF performance.
Arthur, welcome to the Fuji family. haha While I prefer using Canon, and you prefer Sony - there's something special about Fujifilm. Strictly speaking from the fun element, there is nothing that comes close. I used to shoot film for fun but that honestly got too expensive to keep doing at the rate I was shooting. Picked up a Fuji during COVID and haven't looked back. Now the autofocus is incredibly subpar, but shooting with dials and film simulations has been a blast for taking photos that I don't need for work.
Fuji cameras really do hold on to their value. I sold my X-E1 and X-T10 for way more than what I paid for them. The X-E1 was a little slow but produced really nice images. The X-T10 was much faster and has the X-trans2 sensor which also produces beautiful images. I do prefer the look of the images from the X-trans 1 sensor. My A6400 definitely nailed AF all the time, but I wasn't a fan of Sony's color science, so I sold that camera too. I think I'm gonna buy an X-T1 next. I miss the X-T10. I overpriced it on eBay thinking no one would buy it and to my surprise someone did.
The X-T10 is smaller and lighter than the X-T1 and it has the same sensor... makes for a great travel camera. It's much more fragile than the X-T1 however. I had my X-T10 stored in my backpack and my metal water bottle bumped into it and broke my playback button. Luckily the camera still works; I can no longer chimp which makes it more like a film camera now!
The nice thing about Fuji cameras is that even if they are old, the image quality is still excellent. For example if you pick up an X-E1 the image quality is probably not that far off from a modern X-E3 or X-E4 (the high ISO might be better on the newer ones but the older ones are no slouch and still very useful even today, and I think people have realized this and why used prices on many Fuji cameras -- even old ones from 10 years ago) are higher than normal. Obviously the production of the new models is causing some people to settle for older models and that's what's driving it up, along with the fact that these older models are not available anymore so the supply that we have is the supply we have. That being said, I wouldn't mind grabbing an X-E series or maybe an X-Pro1 at some point. I guess for the time being my Nikon Zf will do as it's about as close to shooting film I can get to without going bankrupt (the body itself equals about 2-3 years of film and processing for me, based on my calculations so it's probably a better investment in the long run). But would still like to get a smaller camera like one of the Fuji's (since Nikon doesn't really have anything that small--except for the Z30 which doesn't have an OVF/EVF). I mainly just want an everyday carry camera and the Nikon is a bit big (especially with a 24-70 f/4 attached) for casual shooting (I still use it for that, but it would be nice to have a compact light camera that can fit in a coat pocket for example... the Zf can't). Fuji is smart to focus on APSC but more so medium format. For one, it has caused companies like Hasselblad to be more competitive (And to a lesser extent, PhaseOne). But more importantly, I think the camera market will somewhat move between FF And medium formats depending on the needs of the photographer. Since we do seem to be at a"wall" with resolution (being around 60MP) for FF, Icould see more people moving to Fuji MF especially if FF Bodies continue to rise in price (currently an A7R V for example is about $3999, but you can get a Fuji MF camera (100MP, maybe not the latest version) for around $5,000 on sale (and in some cases, less than that, new). Of course the two are different cameras (the Sony being a hybrid do-all camera, and the Fuji GF100 being more of a landscape camera, but most people who desire high-res like 60MP+ are generally landscape shooters).
@@lionheart4424 I had the XT-2 but ended up having to sell it because it had some strange issue that I could never figure out (it wasn't a huge deal but I also consolidated to only a Nikon system anyway when the Z system came out). But the issue wht XT2 had was that when using backup mode with the 2nd card slot, sometimes the cards were not readable in a card reader (and I tried different cards and different readers, but some how it couldn't read the cards -- they were reported as corrupt by various computers too -- but in the camera -- copying from the camera via USB -- worked fine). Eventually this got annoying so I sadly gave up but wouldn't mind trying Fuji again.
Enjoyed the straightforward and concise video. What made you try that particular lens? It’s cool to see you dabbling with Fujifilm. I feel like some brands are popular with certain crowds. Have you ever tried a Ricoh camera?
I picked up an X-E1 about a year ago to satisfy my film fix. I just can't stomach the cost of analog anymore. While my A7IV produces technically gorgeous images, I wanted something that would slow me down and give me an image with beautiful film-like colors straight out of the camera. The X-E1 is sluggish but that's what helps me really think about composition and to shoot with a purpose. The aesthetic of the camera also just scratches an itch in my brain that my A7IV just can't reach. It's the perfect blend of feeling like a 35mm camera while giving me the freedom to shoot until I fill up an SD card instead of running out of film. As some others have already said, Sony for getting a professional job done right. Fuji for personal use to re-kindle your love for photography. Also for the diehard analog folks, I KNOW digital doesn't compare to analog but in my opinion this camera is the closest I've used to replicating just about every aspect of the film experience.
Welcome to the fun side of photography :D would definitely be of great value if you would do some comparisons to Sigma, Viltrox etc with the Fuji system, as you're a benchmark for APSC lenses in general.
right before i picked up Sony in 2020, i usually rent Fuji for my work on video etc. (but sometimes Canon too) all my though, i always missed that "manual" look on Fuji's result. eventhough there's limitation on Video side, even when i edited that video from FLog to Rec709......i just said wow! that's all even now still saving to purchase XT3 that i research had good quality + 10bit
Just 2 weeks ago I sold my Sony a7R II and got a Fujifilm X-T30 II for my travels and personal photography. Has been really fun to explore Fuji after using only Sony for the last 10 years.
I owned several Fuji cameras and a whole set of lenses quite a few years back...My fav was a pair of XE3 bodies at the time... though I did also have an X pro1. and xe2 (no S) that I loved. along with the x70 (with the wide adapter lens it was cool to hang around the neck) which I kinda regret selling a few years back ... I am pretty much a rangefinder style camera user and I do not do video...cheers.
Its ok to have several camera brand, we dont need to stick only to 1 brand. Heck if i got unlimited money.. i buy one each from every camera brand. That if my wife let me :)
That 35mm is fantastic for photos, it's a shame it has very heavy focus breathing though, so not great if you want to use it on a hybrid body for video. For photo only it's so much fun though!
Believe me man carrying a Fuji camera is such an amazing experience I have only one Fuji camera which is the XE-1 and it’s my favorite to carry and to use for street photography This camera inspires me to do more street photography I guarantee you that you will feel the same with time I advice you to grab an 85 mm 1.8 Viltrox Lens or get a manual 7Artisans or TTartisans lens like a 25 mm I do hope you will enjoy using this Fuji with time you will carry this camera more and more without noticing … Thx for the video
Maybe a bit my Fujifilm bias, but your photos look relaxed in a good way. Also, I noticed many more photos on your reel were taken by another person - as you say, people are drawn to using it. I agree with the autofocus gripes, particularly on an 11 year old model. I don't know where the sweet spot is for autofocus, price, retro aesthetic and "filmic sensor" - probably an X-pro2?
This isn't a brag...it's actually kinda funny I started with a 20d, moved to the 50d, then a 5DSR and a 1DX mark ii and my favorite to get that beauty shot a 5D.....I love that thing so I completely understand. I have some serious tools but to have fun I grab that 5D🤙😎🤙
I remember photographing a high school senior in her cap & gown getting ready for her graduation ceremony. Although this was many years ago, the resulting images with respect to skin tones, tonal graduations, & color science were absolutely brilliant. Those images have been totally embedded in my memory. The 5D Classic was NOT an inexpensive camera when it was released, but it produced wonderful images during the time that I used it.😊
I disagree with the "X-Trans II is the most magical" sensor, that would definitely be the X-Trans I. The X-Trans II isn't super far off, but it goes a LOT more in the warmer tones and breaks down more easliy in the colder tones, while the X-Trans I is good in both, and gives an organic-like look to images. Fujifilm really wanted something different with the X-Trans II which is otherwise identical to the X-Trans I (a couple of phase detection points and a newer processor aside). I have two cameras with teh X-Trans II sensor in it (X100S and X-T1), and have been shooting with them for the last 3 years. I also tested every other X-Trans sensor in the meantime, save for the X-Trans V HS and V HR. In my opinion, every other X-Trans sensor is more "versatile" than the X-Trans II, but the X-Trans II is the only one that reliaed so heavily on warm color tones, which leads to a pretty simple conclusion : when other sensor can do pretty much everything in color grading in post processing, the X-Trans II can't. However, if you can align yourself with the warmer color science of the X-Trans II, or if that's what you were going for from the get-go, then there is no better sensor for that than tha X-trans II. It's exactly the same things as comparing the Canon 5D classic and the Nikon D700. Both produce super great images with excellent color science that will remind some people of film (sometimes), but the D700 is a bit more versatile and can be edited to pretty much anything while the 5Dc will restrict you in one way of doing color grading to your images : warmer tones, the more "vintage / retro look" you go, the better it gets and not other camera can touch it on those specific aspects. The X-Trans II vs X-trans I, III and IV debate is pretty much the exact same thing. To me the Fujifilm "sweetspot" when it comes to sensors is the X-Trans III. You get the same kind of color science we had with the X-Trans I (not exactly the same, but getting close), you retain that organic look that was a thing of the X-Trans I & II, but you avoid the sterile look of the X-Trans IV and V. You also get excellent performance when it comes to dynamic range and high ISO noise performance, equivalent to the later sensors, and considerably improved over the X-Trans II. Also getting an X-Trans III camera nowadays isn't nearly as expensive as getting an X-Trans IV one, but you still have good autofocus, you still have very good 4K video (even if it's only 8bit) and performance wise there isn't much the sensor doesn't already give you.
I completely agree with the sentiment that X-Trans II is warmer and III is the sweet spot. I greatly prefer the performance of my X-H1 over my old X-T1. But I end up editing every image in an attempt to get those warmer tones that I grew so fond of with the X-T1.
You should’ve bought the XF35f1.4 lens. Yes, it’s slow and noisy, but that lens gave magical image look even compared to the newer fuji lens hands down!
I always wanted a Fujifilm. But when I had to choose, it was either Sony or Canon. Partly because of these are the ones I can find info more easily than Fujifilm (I ended up choosing Sony, thanks to you). But, if I have the money, one day I will try to get a Fujifilm.
I have the xe4 I use for studio shots and just got the xt1 which is the same camera as yours with different dials… I use it for travel, fun photography and for teaching/explaining about photography and boy… what images I am getting out of it. I would suggest you to take darker images you can play with later on and get a better glass. There is fuji glass that renders beautifully.
I moved from Sony to Fujifilm mainly because they have a better feature set for the same price and with dynamic range settings, simulations I hardly ever have to edit RAW files, I save a ton of time and enjoy taking pictures.
I normally shoot Sony camera for photo and video work. Like you I went down the rabbit hole into Fuji. Went through a lot of models for travel. Really enjoyed the Fuji XE 4 with the Fuji 18-55 mm lens for travel. Sadly I sold it to over pay for the Fuji x100 vi. Great camera but I miss changing lenses.
I sold my Sony A7 III and picked up an X-T4, but I was surprised by how unreliable autofocus was. I was confident in Sony and could focus on framing, composition, etc. but with Fuji I wasn't sure if the photo would come out focused correctly on top of all other concerns. I like editing photos myself, so the only thing that sets Fuji apart is not for me either. Now I'm selling it and going back to Sony a6700.
"In true Arthur fashion" ... *LOL* Do you know Eric L. "I like it. Leave me alone" Woods by any chance? I had a simple Fuji digital in my arsenal and though it was no V100 it was a well-made camera that produced really good images not just for a point-and-shoot but against higher-level units as well.
The emotion I normally got from my Fuji cameras was frustration. The wormy artifacts drove me nuts at times. I understand the latest Lightroom does a better job. But, I moved on from the Xtrans sensors. I was never into the recipes. I had my favorite that I used. Then there’s the focus and tracking issues. I was not willing to live with that, just to be one of the cool kids.
I really liked this review. How about buying MF 2nd hand lenses from 7artisans and ttartisan, and use it as a MF camera? They do sell some with a vintage look. It would look much better then the plastic one that you used here, and if AF is bad, maybe go MF?
Yes, not every camera need to be an “AF-camera”. If people want the retro experience, then that includes MF. Only you still get the modern convenience of the digital camera.
I highly recommend to try a manual lens with this camera, to get a complete uniqe look and manual experience. For example Voigtlander Nokton and Ultron are matching very well with this body (even without electronic contacts).
You talk about the looks, have you ever seen a silver A6000? It is really nice to look at. I find the A6x00 cameras so much fun, can't imagine the Fuji's are really more fun. Maybe do a shoot out? And find out if it is just the novelty or not.
I think if it wasn't for autofocus , fuji would havr overtaken sony long ago ! As a sony user , ot pains me to say how many things sony has gotten wrong and which would only be correct much later on ! As for an apples to apples comparison Fuji's xs10-xs20 would be the one to compare with sony a6000 series. Similar should try the xt 1 series to get the full Fuji experience
i bought the xe3 for whatever reason for 300$ with a kitlens in 2020 thinking its going to be the perfect street cam (( we all know where that ended )) and it was my second body to a GH5 and i have to say the fuji just have something going on that makes me FEEL stuff xD i didnt use it much as i didnt buy a good lens for it yet BUT every time i hold it i just feel good inside somehow :> and for whatever reason i too bought the red button too and u had no idea those exists before seeing it in aliexpress xD again just like you i have no idea why but i like it over my a6700/6100 and even the A7ii but honestly it too sets besides the GH5 just waiting for me to use :> again it looks way too good to bother it with work :P
That XC lens apparently has the same glass as the XF version always on my X-S20; I have both only getting the XF because it has the aperture ring and looks nicer :) The XC sits in my bag alongside the 7Artisans 18mm when I'm out with the X-M1.
I sold all my Fujis with X-Trans sensor because they are less sharp as with Bayer sensor, now I have only Fuji X-A5 and X-T200 - they are so sharp as A6000.
Nikon is fast catching up the retro market's, their Zfc is small wonder, which gives Fuji a small run. its about time Sony comes out with a retro body..
i have the xe3 love it so much, only one problem that made me get a second pen f , its dust on the sensor. there a certain magic by olympus and lumix that make this problem non existent. living in always dusty Jeddah this is a big deal. hope fujifilm and ricoh do something about the issue of dust.
I shoot all brands except Fuji. Full frame, MFT and apsc. A full Xs10 kit with three primes appeared for the price of the body used so I figured….let’s give it a try . Worst case I can easily sell as they hold value. I just don’t get it. The autofocus is not good. The zoom lenses I borrowed are heavy with sticky zoom throws. The Sony 18-135 has so much better ergonomics as a general purpose lens. The menu is not great. I can get great images out of it but that is pretty much any body with less work. The film sims are nice but I can use a preset to do the same. It left me confused. A6700 locks on anything and the xs10 hunts on a high contrast scene. I did like the size and weight. Lumix has the best shutter sound and feel.
Fuji excells at "no preset required", aka amazing SOOC JPGs. Also, Film Simulations cannot be replicated outside of camera. You can use presets to achieve a similar look, but never the exact same. What zoom lenses were you using that are so heavy?
@@lionheart4424the 18-135 vs the Sony 18-135 was really noticeable. Maybe I am just used to the Sony but the Fuji zoom throw is not for me. It is noticeably larger and heavier. the film sims. I was underwhelmed by them. I appreciate them and understand the appeal as it is a look that is very nice and I have admired a lot of Fuji images. If the pre set is 99% the same that is good enough for me. I am not chasing that look. If I was I would not buy a camera for the film sims, others may. I need autofocus that does not surprise me and a zoom throw that does not contort my wrist. I am not a fan boy, I don’t care the brand. My thing is to use them all objectively. I just don’t get the hype for the price. You do, that’s great.
Ahh, you are absolutely right about the ease of use and how intuitive it is, but in order to get the full Fuji experience, you should get a model with fixed lense IMO. I myself started with X10 a decade ago and I miss it af
I respectfully disagree, the full Fujifilm experience can only be achieved when you use an X-T model (not an X-Txx model, the former flagship cameras).
Dear Arthur. The character "V" in the Fuji camera model name is not a "vee" but a roman numeral 5. Similarly, "I" is not a letter but a numeral 1. So, X100V and X100VI are the fifth and the sixth generation on the X100 model. I find it is mostly Americans who do not get roman numerals for some reason. Keep up your good work. You nearly had talked me out of the Sirui 75mm lens recently. I'm glad you haven’t managed 🙂.
@@addylandzaat8080 Well, you've said it all: sequential numbering was the go right from the start although with a Japanese twist for the first four in the sequence 😉
@@tadc yeah, and like you said, with a Japanese (? Fuji) twist that confused most when they moved to Roman numerals and they didn't tell us. So, not Arthur's fault he got confused 😎
I tried a “fun” XT200, and the autofocus was a deal breaker, I sold it within 2 months. That camera was from 2020. It is good for an AF-S and focus and recompose camera. I was pretty disappointed
Buy Fujifilm xt30 ii & you'll be lost on getting the film like look with film recipe based on classic negative. The addiction is about going out to shoot, finding the color pellet like a pokemon game. You are chasing colors around you which turns out magical straight out of the camera. The closest a digital camera gets to 35mm film. Fujifilm is about getting lost in colors
I use Sony for professional work, and Fuji for personal photography. The latest Fuji cameras have autofocus that’s a little less reliable than the A6400. If I’m shooting a wedding, I’m taking my full frame Sony. If I’m with friends or traveling, I’m taking my X100VI.
Hah I wonder how many of us do the same. My Sony does gigs and weird focal lengths (for me 20mm or 100-400mm) and the rest is my x100v. 😅
Me too lol
Me three haha! Ive got an a7iv and an x-t3
Less reliable than the a6400 is putting it lightly. Newest firmware on the xh2s bricked it completely and it was already mediocre before
Welcome to the team!
I'm still in love with my sony A6300 with a Sigma 16mm F1.4 lens a match that just works so well the photos are just stunning
Welcome!! I used to watch loads of your videos, when I was on Sony (A6400). Then, a year ago, I purchased a Fuji X-T1 for €200 and there was no coming back… So welcome to Fuji, hope you will stay!
Arthur
I have been following your channel for quite a while now even though I am a Fuji shooter.
23mm F2
16mm F1.4.
I had an X-E3 that I regret selling but I got more for it used this year than what I paid for it new.
The go to channel for anything Fuji how to is @Pal2tech.
Looking forward to more content especially Fujifilm and your pictures looked amazing !

@@m4rcin847sigma has all these lenses for Fuji and now TTArtisan as well. What Olympus camera specifically are you talking about?
Nice! I have an X-E2 and haven't felt the need to upgrade to a newer Fujifilm
I use the XH2 for work and the XT4 for play
work lenses are Viltrox Pro 27 and 72 1.2s, Play lenses are fujifilm kit 2.8/4, TT Artisan 27 2.8 pancake and 56 1.8 compact portrait
Thank you for a great review & perspective.
This camera does have plenty of charm
I love the in-camera raw conversion tools from Fuji cameras. Nothing comes close to it in my experience.
Looking forward to your next video!
I think Fuji got it right on the right person, retro aesthetic with "magic" color rendering and a nice shooting experience overall.
YES! I went from a Sony a6600 to an XT5. Sold the XT5 for an XH2s for work, and an XE4 for fun/family stuff.
Welcome, it's fun. I had an X20 since 2012/13? And just upgraded to a used XT3. Zero regrets!
I switched to Sony with the A6000 10 years ago. Way back before you were born I sold tonnage of Fuji AX series film cameras and my first personal digital cameras were all Fuji. If my memory is correct the old Fuji ST801 still holds the record for the most LEDs in the viewfinder.
i've been staring at Fuji's for a while, I follow a bunch of Fuji forums, etc. and love the looks the produce.
You defined fuji quite well. All about the emotions. Wish u can share your recipe for your kids and wife's pics. Skin color looks great.
As someone who recently moved from X-H2 to A7Cii I wish you all the best and not to loose … the focus 😅
I sold my Sony a6400 too because of too much work for editing, and now use a Fuji X-S10
i been following you in my early sony days. i bought a fuji as i was tired of sony (old) colors back then and i have to edit so much just to match the vibes. after using fuji i still found the flaws in their system but regardless i still enjoy both system.
Fuji the Toyota of the camera world.
As always nice review.. 💯
I agree, the X-T2 I bought recently holds really good compared to my X-T5 when it comes to image quality.
I still have my xe2. Can never let it go.
right before i picked up Sony in 2020, i usually rent Fuji for my work on video etc. (but sometimes Canon too) all my though, i always missed that "manual" look on Fuji's result.
eventhough there's limitation on Video side, even when i edited that video from FLog to Rec709......i just said wow!
that's all
even now still saving to purchase XT3 that i research had good quality + 10bit
Beware of the autofocus issues. It's very unreliable and plain bad compared to Sony. Search for videos on Sony vs Fuji autofocus.
I had an XE3. That thing was so good.
I would like to see you trying one of the more recent Fuji cameras ;)
Just 2 weeks ago I sold my Sony a7R II and got a Fujifilm X-T30 II for my travels and personal photography. Has been really fun to explore Fuji after using only Sony for the last 10 years.
The fact that this camera is early PDAF, pretty useful on autofocus area. But I use manual focus on my xe2 lenses instead because I broke
Believe me man
carrying a Fuji camera is such an amazing experience
I have only one Fuji camera
which is the XE-1 and it’s my favorite to carry and to use for street photography
This camera inspires me to do more street photography
I guarantee you that you will feel the same with time
I advice you to grab an 85 mm 1.8 Viltrox Lens or get a manual 7Artisans or TTartisans lens like a 25 mm
I do hope you will enjoy using this Fuji
with time you will carry this camera more and more without noticing …
Thx for the video
Maybe a bit my Fujifilm bias, but your photos look relaxed in a good way. Also, I noticed many more photos on your reel were taken by another person - as you say, people are drawn to using it. I agree with the autofocus gripes, particularly on an 11 year old model. I don't know where the sweet spot is for autofocus, price, retro aesthetic and "filmic sensor" - probably an X-pro2?
Sweet spot is xt3 or xt2 if you dont need speed
This isn't a brag...it's actually kinda funny
I started with a 20d, moved to the 50d, then a 5DSR and a 1DX mark ii and my favorite to get that beauty shot a 5D.....I love that thing so I completely understand. I have some serious tools but to have fun I grab that 5D🤙😎🤙
Yeah, that 5D has that special sauce although using it is kinda like driving an old VW bug. Slow and no frills.
@@karmagroovy indeed
But, if I have the money, one day I will try to get a Fujifilm.
now a new fuji lover will rise
The autofocus problems can even be said about the modern ones I'm afraid, every firmware they seem to make the tracking AF worse.
No! Don’t tell me that😂
There’s a video comparing the a6000 tracking to the modern Fuji’s and yeh… 😅
People are rolling back firmware’s to get to one where it worked well.
Agree, I had the XT200, lets just say it was only competent in AF-S and had to use the old “focus and recompose” mentality
@@SideshowBob44 That's good to know, I've basically never used it, but now I'm wondering if I could get some use from it if I rolled back...
I moved on from Fuji selling my XPro3 and XT5, but this one I will alway keep.
What do you think of the new X-M5?
I wonder if this will be a fuji channeö on future .... greetings from bavaria
I moved from Sony to Fujifilm mainly because they have a better feature set for the same price and with dynamic range settings, simulations I hardly ever have to edit RAW files, I save a ton of time and enjoy taking pictures.
In the same boat. Just sold my a600 and some lenses i wasn't using and picked up an fujifilm xe-3
Loads of videos lately about how they keep making the AF worse with each firmware, it's a real shame.
Have several Fuji's, can't work out why the AF remains an ongoing problem?
Fuji's color just better SOOC
i'd love to see you try with a newer FUJI like an x-t50.
What tweaks did you make to classic chrome? Looks great
I highly recommend to try a manual lens with this camera, to get a complete uniqe look and manual experience. For example Voigtlander Nokton and Ultron are matching very well with this body (even without electronic contacts).
Get the xpro1 trust me.
You talk about the looks, have you ever seen a silver A6000? It is really nice to look at. I find the A6x00 cameras so much fun, can't imagine the Fuji's are really more fun. Maybe do a shoot out? And find out if it is just the novelty or not.
I’ve debated buying a silver a6000! Would be a cool setup with a silver lens.
I love the simplicity of the controls on a Fuji, however, I don't want to go back to a poor hit rate that I used to get on a Canon.
I bought my first Fuji too. A Evo mini.
The real complement for Fujifilm cameras are vintage lenses. Do you a favor and buy some vintage lenses to use with film sims.
I wish Toshihisa Iida returned to the Fujifilm imaging division. Since his departure, the company dropped the ball IMHO.
I sold all my Fujis with X-Trans sensor because they are less sharp as with Bayer sensor, now I have only Fuji X-A5 and X-T200 - they are so sharp as A6000.
Man with that third party battery I’d be surprised if you got 100 shots 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@joshuachubbphotography it was probably 70 average! Terrible 😂
Nikon is fast catching up the retro market's, their Zfc is small wonder, which gives Fuji a small run. its about time Sony comes out with a retro body..
I enjoy using Fuji. They still need to hire a Sony guy to perfect autofocus….
i have the xe3 love it so much, only one problem that made me get a second pen f , its dust on the sensor. there a certain magic by olympus and lumix that make this problem non existent. living in always dusty Jeddah this is a big deal. hope fujifilm and ricoh do something about the issue of dust.
Would switch if they could improve the af
The xs20 i tried and borrowed didnt perform as good as my a6400 or even my friend's a6700
I was sure that one day you will be lured into Fuji
So, whats your go to full frame from this point on, if in fact you ever decide to go full frame?
The problem is Fuji: they started with letters, X100S for second, T for third and F for Four and suddenly they went with Roman numerals. Confusing.
@@addylandzaat8080
Well, you've said it all: sequential numbering was the go right from the start although with a Japanese twist for the first four in the sequence 😉
Just buy a x100vi. Trust me you will full in love.
