Fuel Rats: Code Red!

- My first successful Code Red rescue. This is where a CMDR has completely run out of fuel and the ship has shut down, leaving them on emergency life-support with a limited time. This time can be as little as 5 minutes unless an upgraded system has been fitted.
The rescue took nearly an hour and a half to complete as it is standard procedure to dispatch more than one Rat to a Code Red to maximise chances of success. Server issues resulted in another rescue delaying the arrival of a third Rat, so we had to wait in-system for a while.
Even then the servers were against us, preventing him from getting us all winged, so we did it in reverse, with the only Rat that still had the client in friends list inviting him to the wing.
Thankfully it worked perfectly first time!

The only time I've ever needed a rescue was a Code Red, in my little iEagle in the middle of nowhere, back before I knew anything.
Took less than two minutes for a Rat to find me and fuel me up, and he even pulled some entertaining acrobatics while teaching me about the game ^_^
This is one of those rare player groups that really deserves public recognition.
The first time i ever went dry was also in an ieagle

Once I get to a decent level of skill on Elite Dangerous, I'd be honored to fly escort for the Fuel Rats, it's groups of players like you that really make these games feel alive.
Yeah. I've only ever had to call them once, when I knew nothing about how to scoop stars and plot scoopable stars in the map, in my early cobra. But that experience had given me the knowledge to be able to build an ASP Ex and fly out to Saggitarius and back safely.
Hell once I get an anaconda, I'll invite some of my friends to play with me and I can be their pocket escort and fuel rat.

I know you meant incarnated, but honestly incarcerated feels more appropriate in this game sometimes
I just picked Elite up during the 2018 autumn sale. Now I wish I had gotten it sooner. I know nothing about what I am doing, lol. I like this though. Seems a lot more realistic and rewarding than any of the missions I've seen a station give.
The game lets player groups make their own fun, and that's where it really comes to life :)
The next time Elite Dangerous goes on sale, I'm picking it up and flying with the Fuel Rats.

I needed these guys on my first jump I tried I did not know how to use the hyper jump and just tried flying to my destination 20 minutes later or so I ran out of fuel then o2 then died

@The Juggerbear i wouldnt think im a good pilot by any means. when i first started, i had to have my friend come and bail me out and after that i have never flown a ship with out a scoop. there were a couple times that i almost ran comletely out of fuel becuase of red giantys and stuff. but i got lucky that there was a station nearby. but still tanks to all the fuel rats that help in that wonderful universe of elite dangerous. :)
I did run out of fuel once but had no idea you guys existed. Since then I almost ALWAYS have a fuel scoop...even a small one.

I know this is super late lol. But what does o7 mean...? I saw another video of a streamer who needed to call the rats and she used o7 a few times.... From what I can gather it's kind of like when police call 10-4 over the radio. Just means they acknowledge what was just said. But I don't know where it comes from or if it stands for anything specific

Ya know the whole fuel scooping thing reminds me a book called Queens Squadron, by R.M. Meluch. Good read. Recemend for ya fuel rats or anyone really. Keep u6pmthe great work.

how do you know who to rescue or where they are and if you are stranded, how do you call for help?
If you're out of fuel, go to www.fuelrats.com and click the Get Help button. It will ask your CMDR name and location, then connect you to our chat where the Rats hang out, and it will ping all of us with your case. From there those closest to you will respond. Most rescues in the bubble take a matter of minutes. Once we have got winged up with you, we can see where you are on the map.

Im kinda confused to see a Keelback that needed fuel. Not sure if that commander was transporting stuff and ran out of fuel
He was doing passenger missions, but they took him further than he thought.

I know this is a really late post but do you have video of your ship load out? That's fuel scoop was insane!
No video of it, but it's a 7B fuel scoop in there. I've now evolved the build with 6D thrusters (DD3 tuned), 6D distributor (G3 Engine Focussed), lighweight sensors and lighweight shields. That Anaconda now jumps 58LY :)
@@BrotherSabathius how much better/worse would it be to go up to a 7A or down to a 7D?
@@boiledelephant 7A scoop would let me travel faster, 7C or 7D to save more money if you aren't in a hurry.

@@roguewipplash1 which I already thing is a huge advance compared to a 2A! I'm running pageant missions on a Dolphin and only had space for such one. My DBX also has a 5A and it's such a blessing!

I know this video is quite old already but I saw you nickname in the stats list of the site and was wondering if you could explain it there are specific requirements for a fuel rat? You know, like ship type, or if you're required to be logged in at least x hours per week or so?
The only requirement is that you want to help people. You don't have to be on call any more than you want to be. When not on call, you can still do whatever you want to, Fuel Rats come from all areas of the game.
Best ships for fuel ratting in my experience are the DBX, AspX and Krait Phantom. For long-range rescues, the Anaconda rules.
@@BrotherSabathius for a long range rescue, what advantage does Anaconda provide over ships like a DBX, or AspX? Am thinking of joining the Rats after this expedition I started recently and am just curious
@@fosstera The Anaconda can get to the rescue system faster with its big jump range. You can fairly easily approach 80ly equipped for rescue, and a big size 7 scoop means it will beat the AspX and DBX over a long distance.
How do you get such a fast fuel scoop?
Anacondas can fit a class 7 scoop. Very fast, but also very expensive!

I'm sure some Rats are playing, but I don't know if there's any plan to expand to SC at the moment. I don't have access to SC, and I don't think my PC would handle it in its current form.

If you mean in-game credits, we can make a surprising amount just honking the discovery scanner as we go. Then we go back to whatever we were doing before the call.

How does one join the fuel rats?
Go to fuelrats.com and look in the bottom left. Click the button there for "become a rat" to get started.

Space traveling 100s ly in minutes but still can't get the computer voice to speak the Queen English Plain
hehe, it is Frameshift Drive, but it's commonly misheard. Early in development, it just said Drive Charging, and I often wish they had left it at that. I turned off the voice lines for that fairly early on.
What happens when someone is a dick with the fuel rats and kills one?
They get hunted down by the Elite Dangerous community at large ;)
