    I recommend pressing the brewing button for a second or two before attaching the portafilter and pulling the shot. If you heated the machine up for a while, there can be some latent steam which will disrupt the coffee grinds in the portafilter and lead to channeling. It may not be as much of an issue with the PID but worth testing.

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  3 года назад +12

      With PID, there's no need to press the brewing button prior to pull the shot. It keeps the temperature stable at where I want it and there's no extra steam. I used to do what you have said before PID. Thanks for the good tip!

    *_A little unknown scientific-fact:_*_ Electrons build up more easily in dry places. On humid days, shocks are less common because a thin layer of water molecules coats most surfaces, which allows electrons to flow more freely and makes almost everything conductive and static-free._

    Time for a bottomless basket and maybe even adding a screen. 58.5mm is perfect. It rests halfway without anything in it so pretty tight. Takes ~2g of space. So either get a 2g larger basket or use less coffee. A BLB also gains you ~ 2 in of extra space for the cup. I use an 8oz cup and don’t have to remove the drip tray. Looks great! Your milk skills are great. I brew first then flip steam switch with timer, purge, then wait till ~25-30 sec to heat up. Purge again for 5 sec then steam the milk. You’ve waited too long if the steam light comes on as it shuts off the heat. I’m sure you know this… 🍻🍻

    • @QTHomeCafe

      Hello! Puck screen is amazing since it helps to keep the ground from going up the shower head and keep everything fairly contained in the portafilter; highly recommend! I normally do those steps before I have a PID installed. Having a PID is such a game changer and makes it very easy to keep things consistent!

      Thank you! 🙏 I’m just sharing what I know. Every beans are different so you will have to figure it out. I would recommend using fresh roasted beans from your local shop for a great cup. Typical guideline is 18g of coffee beans into grinder and brew time should be around 25-30secs and have around 36-40g coffee out. I’m assuming you are using the same grinder as me so I would say you can start at maybe 7A and go finer if it runs too fast or go coarser if it runs too slow. I hope that help!

    I was wondering - why do you switch milk between pitchers?

    • @QTHomeCafe

      Thank you! And honestly it’s more so a personal preference. Steaming in a smaller pitcher is easier for the Gaggia steam wand, but I love pouring from a bigger pitcher. Why pouring steamed milk from one pitcher to another?

    • @QTHomeCafe
      @QTHomeCafe  2 года назад

      It’s purely for latte art purposes. I like doing that to incorporate in the milk, better texture for latte art. Also pouring from a bigger size pitcher is easier for my latte art practice. It helps me get closer to the surface without accidentally pouring milk too early in the process. If I was to steam in the bigger size pitcher, I’d have to use more milk/wasting it.. plus the Gaggia steam wand is short and makes steaming in a bigger size pitcher a bit difficult🙂hope that helps!

      @QTHomeCafe  3 года назад +1

      Hi there! The jug that I use for steaming is a bit smaller so it works better for me and help avoiding pouring too much milk/wasting it. But then for latte art purposes, using a bigger jug is much better as I can get closer to the surface without spilling the milk...and the sharp spout helps with certain designs I want to get. Another big thing for me is I find the transferring step to be very helpful in incorporating/mixing the milk so you get the best texture instead of it being in separated layers😊hope that helps!

      Thanks for stopping by our channel! if you are single dosing, RDT or spritz of water definitely helps with the mess and make the grinder yield even closer to a 0 retention for us. WDT also helps us to distribute the coffee ground more evenly and the end result does yield us a more even extraction. Comparing a commercial setup to a home setup is not a fair comparison. If you have a chance or 4 minutes to spare to make a cup of coffee to your liking, we do recommend you give it a try! Many people do it and many people don’t. Is it worth it? It’s really up to you.
