The struggle is real with that thick drip tray. You know shades of coffee has a slim one made perfectly for this so you can fit the drip tray and scale plus your cup. You've done all the other good mods this might be the last one you need.
oh definitely a struggle for sure! And I actually have been debating whether to get that low drip tray, wondering if it'd mean I have to empty the tray more often😅
Hello! Got my GCP this weekend. I have ordered the 9 bar spring, bottomless PF and a decent filter basket. Not ordered the PID kit yet, so with that in mind what would you suggest I try to do in order to get the best temperature for my shots? Thanks for these lovely vids!
Hi! Thank you for stopping by! That’s already a great start and I hope you enjoy the machine! I think a simple way to do it is to turn on the steaming button on for maybe 8 secs and then turn it off then do a “pre-infusion” by turn on the brew button and turn the steaming knob slightly for 5 secs then close the knob and brew til you are done. I hope that helps! That’s a good start and adjust accordingly. Lighter roast coffee beans like it hotter than darker beans. Let us know how it goes!
It should be okay 👌one spritz of water is a very very small amount of water but it helps to reduce static when you grind and yield more accurate result when you grind. James Hoffman did a really nice video on this call Coffee Hack: No more static.
I understand that i have to turn on the steam just a little to release excessive pressure However, i dont get any crema if i turn it on throughout. But when i turned it off - I keep getting a splash all over the place. . Any recommendation ?
Hi there!! You don't have to do the steam trick but it can be helpful. Crema is just gas that was kept inside of the coffee beans. If the beans are older, you won't get as much crema. Most of the splashing is come from channeling when you are pulling your espresso shots. You can reduce the channeling by using WDT to break down any clumps and evenly distributed the coffee ground. Then you can choose to use either leveler and/or tamper. Thanks!!
I usually steam between 6-8oz but I definitely had done 10-12oz before and it worked just fine for me😊 this little machine has great steam power as long as you follow the trick of steaming before the light goes off.
I just purchased a Gaggia. Had a quick question, what was the purpose of opening the steam want slightly after you steamed the milk? Are you supposed to after steaming to reduce pressure in the boiler? The instructions don’t mention anything about it but do say to run the group head after steaming if you are making another cup to cool the boiler down. If you are only making a single cup, can you just turn off the machine after steaming or do you need to release the pressure? My only concern would be removing too much moisture from the boiler.
Hi there! You should purge your steam wand before and after steaming your milk. Before is to help with getting rid of any condensation in the wand that could go into milk to make it tastes watery. After is to help with getting rid of any milk that could potentially goes up the steam wand. I like to turn the knob and press the brew button at the end to get rid of any steam in the boiler and i stopped when I see stream of water coming out from the steam wand. I just like having fresh water in the boiler so my next session or next cup will be ready to go. I'm not sure if it's necessary but this is how I've been doing it.
It is not on. This is the same way that you would get hot water to make an americano. You just want to slightly turn the knob so a slow stream of water would come out.
Do you always need to fill milk pitcher to right under the spout? I usually only need like 4-6oz of milk and I don’t wanna waste any but I never see anyone steam milk with anything less than 6-8oz
You can certainly steam just 4-6oz as you need, but it’s a bit more difficult depending on your machine and the pitcher you use🙂 Whenever I steam for a cortado, I do about the same amount. Just have to use a very small pitcher so you can get the angle right. And because of the little amount of milk, it does require you to be able to go through the whole process of aerating and heating the milk in faster time😅 I like to think of it as a “master” level of milk steaming cuz it literally happens so quickly. Not careful and you’ll end up with just a blob of foam
Hi there! By holder - Do you mean the wood handle portafilter? We got ours from the Espresso Shop UK - there's a link in the description if that helps :) And personally, one hole steam wand works better for us since it gives better control so we don't end up aerating too much. It's definitely a personal preference. We just had a hard time finding the exact angle to steam perfect milk texture with the stock wand/two hole. The one hole is more forgiving so it's less messing up when steaming.
Love your content! it helps me a lot because I'm brand new to espresso. just got a polar white Gaggia and i'm gonna return my Eureka grinder for a Sette 270. too bad the shades of the coffee store is closed for August :/ I would love content on PID installation
Thank you so much for your kind words! Both grinders are definitely a good choice to pick from. There's also Auber instrument that you can get a PID unit from if that's the only you are looking to purchase from Shades of Coffee at the moment! :) but please make sure you select the correct unit.
@@akoopa1 one reason is that the Sette grind and drops the grounds straight down instead of at an angle. another is that from going from bean to bean, espresso to brew and pour over, it's easier to track your grind settings.
@Bobby Hernandez hope I’m not too late! But certainly check into the reliability of the sette grinders, I’ve only heard bad things about their longevity. Motor issues being the main one.
Hi, you mentioned that you switched the steam tip to a one whole. I was curious which brand you were using or where you purchased the steam tip. Thanks!
Hello there! Thank you for stopping by our channel! We bought the steam wand from Shades of Coffee. It has a single hole too instead of Gaggia Classic’a 2 steaming wand tip. Shades of Coffee is a UK based and they have a lot of cool stuff!!
Hi there! We actually have upgraded to a different grinder for some time now but I wanna say it was around 7A-C on our Sette back then🙂it’s hard to say without knowing more, but it could be either the temp, over extracted, the beans profile
I have 9 bar mod GCP and have tried and tried and tried to get milk quality right for art. I turn steam button on for 25 secs before I start to steam. Get endless steam, a great vortex in the milk, but can NEVER get the milk to float on the crema to create art, despite starting my poor high then going in close. HELP 🤣
You are literally doing everything correct. Make sure to add air, that hissing sound to the milk, for couple of seconds and then go in for the vortex. You just need to practice a bit more and you will get it!
I have multiple ones, from Amazon and also from Slow Pour Supply😊 Knowing what I know now, I’d recommend Slow Pour Supply if you’re in the US. A good start for one good pitcher instead of getting multiple ones you can’t use.
@@QTHomeCafe quick question, ive been looking at the 15 oz and 17 oz from slow pour supply. I usually pour 10oz drinks but i do cortados sometimes, which one should i get?
Hmm for cortados, the best choice is prolly their 10oz pitcher otherwise you’d always end up wasting milk. And if you usually do 10oz latte, I’d go with the 15oz. That’s the one I have and it works perfectly for the smaller size latte I do usually. Only when I try pour for a regular 12oz US latte is when it’s a bit too small
So if you’re only putting about 4-6oz of milk in a 17oz pitcher, and especially on a Gaggia, that seems impossible to me. The Gaggia steam wand is too short and cant be lift up so you simply won’t be able to reach the milk to steam it right. Unless you pour more milk and just end up wasting it. If you have another machine which has a much longer steam wand, worth a try. Just need to find the right angle and control so it steams right. With such a small amount of milk in a bigger size pitcher, you need practice to find the right angle to aerate and create that vortex effect.
The steam wand and the knob being on the right side of the machine are very frustrating for me. I'm glad to see your workflow, it would be so much more ergonomic if you could stand in front the whole time. ... I like your voiceover videos.
I’m glad to share :) and I completely agree, the position of it makes it hard to work with. Took me awhile to really feel comfortable with it now. Thanks for watching!
This is the large latte cup 12oz😊I mainly use this for when I want to practice latte art. With this size, it can be too much milk for my taste if I fill it all the way.
I just got my gaggia classic pro and im new to the espresso machines.. I got a bottomless portafilter but when I turn on the brew switch . It just flows way to fast any reason why you think that would happen?
Congrats on getting Gaggia Classic Pro!! Did you get it in any particular color? Usually when that happened, it means you need to grind your coffee finer.
I really like the black one too. Which grinder did you get? I’m not sure which basket or recipe you are using but essentially you want to grind finer to brew longer and grind coarser to brew faster. You have to keep experimenting with your grinder and see which grind setting yield a tasty shot. It’s more forgiving if you make a latte/cappuccino. Milk really helps.
I can’t remember where I read but by the time that water came out from the boiler to the group head and after preinfusion for about 5 seconds, the temperature would be around 208 or something.
