I like the colors that you used in your beautiful quilts! Thank you for sharing it with us.
I love that you quilted the top separate from the minky, genious. I'll be using that method for sure, thank you for the great tips
I’ve only ever done it 2 x but it works✅
I didn't know about stay stitching the 'Minky' background that's a great tip thank you and for sharing this lovely video with us xx
Tracy- thank you for telling us to back stitch when we sew our pieces together, in an effort to knot off! I'm so tired of watching so many RUclips videos where they just keep chain piecing and never bother to back stitch to secure the seams! You are very realistic and down-to-earth and very good at what you do❣ Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us🥰😍
I appreciate your kind feedback Charlie💛 I tried not backstitching when I heard that you weren't suppose to....but that didn't last long LOL😂 I spent more time "re sewing" the ends of my rows.....so now I backstitch....backstitching is my ultimate time saver LOL😂
@@TheSewingChannel maybe your stitch length was too long?
Naw...does it either way....I must be rough with my quilt tops✅ LOL😂
@@TheSewingChannel Same here! I learned the hardway too. Don't care if you 'aren't supposed to', I'm gonna anyway.
I can’t even see on the back where you quilted or tacked! Its so fluffy and nice!❤
I liked the idea of quilting the batting and then putting on the minky backing.
Me too Nancy!!!...too hard for me to do all that quilting on chevron minky✅
Tracy- Tracy - you have become my sew- conscious! I’ve heard you ALL day!
Awesome!!! Thank you for supporting my channel Marth💛
I didn't know to put stabilizer behind the quilt when you zig zag on it. Good tip!
I never knew you could fmq with just the batting on the back and then tack the milky in spots...game changer!
I didn't know either Letha LOL😂 I came up with the idea while making this video 🤷🏻♀️ I was so happy that it worked✅ and it was easy✅
Tracy, I like your tip about using two rulers to cut with a rotary cutter. That is almost as good as putting Command Hooks on things. Your advice on applique was new too. And attaching the minky was new too. I just keep learning so much from you. Keep up the good work. God bless.
I'm happy to help Susan...💛 I keep learning all the time too✅
Thank you for using affordable fabric because that’s all that some people can afford ❤
Most people don't put batting in when they put minky on the back but the way you did it really makes sense - even if all you're doing is straight line quilting. Also, the tacking part - never saw this before but great idea. It's like the new yarn tie!
The new yarn tie!!! I love it! Thank you for "coining the phrase" for me LOL😂
I love to free motion quilt....and it's too hard to do on the minky so I compromised with what you see in the video✅ The tacking part was a new thing I thought of while making the quilt.💛
@@TheSewingChannel Brilliant!
You have amazing timing. My daughter went to the doctor today and is 7 weeks pregnant due December 11. I’m a beginner so everyone of your tips was new to me. Thank you.
Wow Shelly!!!!Congratulations!!!!🎉 A baby is so exciting 💛 So happy to help!
I am learning soo much from you.it makes life a lot easier.love your shows thank you from keenearner.blessings.
You are so welcome Odette❤️ I really do appreciate your kind words❤️
So glad I found these "hack" tutorials 😊
Just had to watch this great quilting video again!
Yay! Thank you!🎊
New baby came early. I have to move fast. I remembered seeing this tutorial in th past. Pulled it up and I am picking out fabric from my stash right now. I hope to get this in the mail this weekend. Thank you for being the best quilt instructor on RUclips.
You can do it❣️
Thanks Racy!
Definitely the back stitching, the cutting with 2 rulers, random stitching to secure the layers. Everything makes sense. Thanks Mary!
Thank you for such kind feedback Nilda💛 I appreciate it💛
I loved all of "Tracy's Tips"! Loved the tacking down the minky tip.
Thank you so much Patti....you are so sweet!💛
I love this quilt. Using Minky for the back is pure genus. Thank you.
Glad you like it!
I knew about back stitching but my favorites were the two rulers and alternating starting ends just blew me awa,y had no idea.
Hey Tracy! Love the use of the hooks on the rulers. I never thought of that!
Thank you Gigi...works great with my arthritis✅
I knew about lining up the two rulers. Everything you showed are awesome tips. I have started backstitching when sewing blocks, I had lost too many stitches on my first quilt. Thank you.
The tacking in the seems was something I had not heard or thought of, but it certainly makes sense. Thank you so much for that.
Absolutely Rhonda💛 I thought of it while making the video LOL😂
How wonderful! Quilting is amazing!
Sooooooo amazing ✅💛
Love love love the stitch test tip for the appliqué!
Absolutely! I learned the hard way on that one✅
@@TheSewingChannel I am so surprised I never thought to test stitches using the exact same fabrics in the project! Sometimes you just need to hear someone else tell you what to do! :)
Lol 😂 you’re right!
That 2-ruler tip is genius! 😱 Thank you!!
You're so welcome! Thank you for watching Maryanne💛
Lots of great tips! But the one that really caught my attention… sporadically 1 inch stitch in the ditch to tack the two pieces together! BRILLIANT! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 👍🏻
Chrissy-The tack down tip was not even in my 13 LOL😂 it seems to be a favorite in this video though✅ I guess I just assumed quilters did this...but evidently they don't 🤷🏻♀️ I just didn't want to take the time to "tie" it.....happy accident I suppose...because that was the first time I'd done that.💛🤷🏻♀️
It is brilliant!!!
I learned about minky…thank you
Awesome Brenda✅
I love the double ruler tip!!!
Me too! Time saver for sure Vicki✅
Hello! I hope you had a wonderful day! I spent my day sewing with talented ladies on line. Now, I'm going to sit with my hand quilting and watch your video. I hope you have a marvelous week ahead. Thank you for posting this video and for your time.
Thank you Brenda!💛
One thing I have found most difficult as a new quilter is the binding. I always miss the back. This is a nice option. I made two baby quilts with minky and fought the binding. Thanks!
Yes the binding is sometimes troublesome....this option is always a winner for me...✅
liked the tip about using a stabilizer with the applique. I appliqued some Easter eggs and they puckered. Who likes a pucker Easter egg? Not me!! Thanks, Tracy
I always forget to add the stabilizer 🤷🏻♀️ I remember real quick when I go to do my test stitch✅lol 😂
My favorite tip is taking a picture of my layout! I’m easily confused!
I love that piece of wood you had with the point
Pamela- I bought that in a "2nd hand craft store" (of sorts....they had lots of antiques and such). Evidently one of their husbands make them and sell them there....I saw it and bought it to try🤷🏻♀It works like one of those seam rollers.✅
Very nice Tracy!
Thank you so much Linda! 😊💛
I'm happy to say that I knew all the tips. I haven't used minky in a backing yet but I would try it. And I agree with you on how annoying the ends of seams come apart. I always backup on the ends.
Thank you Cindy for confirming the aggravation of splitting seams!✅ I handle my quilt tops way too much not to backstitch✅
I came to quilting from garment sewing where you always back stitched. In my quilting classes I was told not to backstitch as every seam was covered by another one. I haven’t had many seams pull out, but when it does it is extremely annoying. The backstitch at the ends of seams is my favorite as well as tacking down the monkey backing. I haven’t backed a quilt with it as it seems difficult to work with and I only have a small table. I can’t work on the floor anymore due to age and arthritis. Any tips on working with the monkey? Thanks for this video. It was really enlightening. Oh, also the tip of quilting the top with only the backing. Brilliant!
Hi Linda. Search my channel for how to back your quilt with pool noodles✅ no more floor basting✅
I love how easy you make it! Thanks I’m a new subscriber, I love your work! I want to get good at quilting, and I’ve been making so many mistakes!
You make free motion look so effortless! Gotta get my big machine serviced so I can get busy. Work smarter reminds me of slogan from years ago! Work smarter, not harder! Work smarter with work simplification. KISS...keep it simple stupid; now this one could probably get you into trouble LOL!
LOL....for sure I'd be in trouble if I started calling viewers stupid LOL KISS! Free motion quilting looks effortless...but lots of practice is why.....it never used to "seem" easy. Now I'm more confident but totally not where I want to be💛
I watchyou all the time. I have been quiltingfor over 40 years. Where were your tips and hacks when i needed them. I am usung them now ,Thanks
So happy to help Faith💛
Thank you! I did not know about tacking the pieces together, also handy for handmade receiving blankets, especially with minky!
You are so welcome Nanette💛
Wao, it’s a beautiful quilt and so easy to do. Thank you, very much for your tutorial. Awesome!
Tracy: Forgot to mention that I really like your quilt top pattern! Will work extremely well for PL quilt making, to be able to easily stay within the size limitations. Also, the last quilt I made for PL I used your idea from your last fat quarter quilt. Used a 8-pk of coordinated fat quarter fabrics, trimmed down to 16" x 20", then cut them into 8"x10" and used 1 1/2" sashing between. Could only use 24 of the squares for my PL quilt top. I'm writing up a pattern for this now, which I'll call "Tracy's Inspiration Quilt Pattern". Thought you might appreciate the well deserved credit. The quilt top was so fast and easy! Need to take photos yet. 💜
Yes...the pattern is easy and the good thing is....there is no mistake of placement.✅ Be sure to send me photos✅
@@TheSewingChannel Will do. Will also send you the pattern, when photos have been entered.
I loved all your tips. I wish I had watched this a couple weeks ago. I just finished a quilt with Minky. I had to quilt it upside down because the
Minky was sticking to the surface. It had to little dots on it. Thanks for all the new tips and the reminders!
Oh yes Karen....minky is wonderfully unruly at times LOL😅. I feel your frustration though💛 Thank you for commenting and supporting my channel ALWAYS!💛
Was good to see tips on Minky use.
Thank you for watching Sandy💛
Besides the backstitching, sewing around the entire quilt top's perimeter (also called stay-stitching) with a 1/4" seam is also a must when your top is complete!
Yes! I'm tired of splitting seams so will definitely be back-stitching everywhere!! Hey, you have the same machine that I bought last Fall!! I love using my Brother!
Deb...I love my Brother💛 Oh those seams opening are so annoying‼️
Thanks for sharing
This was a very timely video for me. Most of the tricks, I already do, but I just finished a quilt this afternoon that I need to tack. Your suggestion of an inch here and there was just the information I needed. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!💛
Hey sis!! I just learned all the tips today!!🤣 I Absolutely LOVE LOVE the BEAUTIFUL quilt. It is BEAUTIFULLY made!!!💕
Thanks sis...I almost text you to tell you not to watch this video LOL....I wanted you to be surprised right along with Jaliah....LOL😂 Do you think it will match her nursery?
@@TheSewingChannel I enjoyed watching and being WOWED!!! Jaliah is going to love the quilt you made, and it will match the nursery perfectly!! Thank you sis for your love, support, and time. 💕🥰
I loved making it for Baby J ❤️ I'm just glad I was able to get it done in time❤️

Beautiful quilt! You made it look so easy
Thank you Jeanette! 😊 You can do it too!!!💛
I learn from your videos every time. Can’t kept track.😉❤️
LOL😂 Sophia! I can't keep track either LOL...thank you for supporting my channel💛
I liked them all
Great Pam!!!💛 Happy quilting💛
This is a great tutorial! I knew all of the tips, but it was still nice to be reminded of them. Beautiful project! Love your videos!
💛Thanks so much my quilty friend! 😊💛
You are so smart! Now I know why I always mess up appliqué! Test first! Test First! Now to remember next time! lol
Wow! I am very impressed with your free motion quilting. I'm jealous! I remember seeing somewhere to stack your strips for faster cutting but, I easily forgot about that until I saw it here with you.
I didn't realize you could use large pins to hold your quilt together while working on it. I'll have to get me some. I love your quilt.
Thank you for the kind comment GL💛...I think my pins are called "basting pins" or "quilt pins"🤷🏻♀️ Happy quilting💛
Enjoyed watching- great quilt!
Thank you Martha💛
I have to say- I’ve heard your voice all day - 😎while I was sewing!
Awesome! I love listening to sewing tutorials too while I sew 💛
Enjoyed your video as always. Thank you for sharing. 🌺🌻🌹
You are so welcome Darleen💛 Thank you for such kind feedback💛
Looks fantastic 👌 I like this 😊

Great tips Tracy’. Thanks
You’re welcome Michelle💛Happy quilting💛
Just learned them all. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent! That's awesome Chrissy! Happy Quilting💛
I love watching you I have learned so much.
Your comment makes my heart happy Nancy💛 Thank you so much for letting me know that....it's very encouraging to me💛
CUTE quilt for any age girl
Thank you DJ 💛 I made it for a baby shower gift 💛
Amazing video, I’m a beginner, thank you so much. I have tried free motion quilting and gave up for now, 😂
Great tips, beautiful quilt!
Thank you so much Colette💛
I love this little quilt. I was watching you on Sew Becca tonight at the tail end, you mentioned about gauze fabric on your quilt? How well would this hold up? And what do you call it? and where would you buy it? Thank you.
I bought my double gauze fabric at Joann Fabric store...if you watch my Scrumb quilt video there are links in that info box for the gauze fabric I used ✅
Hi Tracy. I have just finished a toddler bed quilt for my 20 month old lil dude. All I have to do is bind it. Would your method for the minky work with flannel on the back too? I was impressed with the letter applique too. The quilt is darling! ~~ Hugs, Lynne
Yes, absolutely would work✅ And the applique is super easy...You can do it!💛
Thank you.
You're welcome!💛
Lots great information on working with minky. I especially liked the batting being quilted before adding the milky, milky is not user friendly. Love the fabric, where did you purchase it?
Hi Cynthia. I bought the fabric from Walmart✅ the theme for the baby’s room that I was making it for is “Paris”. I hope they love it💛
Thank you for the video. I knew all but for the ‘new tacking’ method lol. A few people mentioned PL quilts. I’m in UK and not heard this term, what does it mean? Even google couldn’t give me an answer!
I’m not sure what the PL means… The only thing I could find was one for sale on eBay… meaning pieced appliquéd Quilt so it’s a couple methods in one. I hope that helps otherwise I don’t think it’s a real quilting term lol
You are very inspiring. I want to try this. Thanks
Awesome Pam! Let me know how it turns out if you make it!!!💛
WOW! A lot of info to digest at the same time, both verbally and on screen! Needed to watch your video 3 times to make sure I understood and got all your tips and tricks. Here's what I learned: I'm not the only person that says Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! to show frustration. (Unfortunately, that term doesn't bode well in a professional work environment and I've gotten my hand slapped for saying this more than once. Compared to some language I've heard in a professional work setting, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! is incredibly tame.) Sorry, I digress! The tip about using stabilizer on the back of an applique item before zigzagging is very helpful. I've not yet machine appliqued anything. A friend of mine who machine embroiders told me about stabilizer, so I recently picked some up to have on hand when I finally do this kind of applique sewing. My question: Did you trim off the excess stabilizer after you finished zigzagging around the J (for Josie, I assume? 😉) or do you leave it on? If I remember correctly, you can buy stabilizer that dissolves in the laundry, right? This part is uncharted territory for me, Tracy. That, and I've still not done any FMQing yet. I'm so close because of the PL quilts tops I've made, but I'm currently awaiting on a quote for a roll (30 yds) of batting. Thanks for another great video! I always learn something from you every week. 🥰
Dori...LOL I know it was a lot to take in 😉. This baby quilt is for a gift for a baby shower I have this weekend✅
The stabilizer I used was a fusible (used for collars in shirts mostly) so I did not trim. I pressed it (it was flimsy and soft). I knew I was going to free motion quilt so that is another reason I didn't trim.....So I didn't want to confuse anyone by stating all that LOL😂✅
What a great idea to buy all that battig in bulk✅
Hay new friend! Please tell me about your iron?
Looks like something I need. Tks. cj
💛Carolyn- here's the link to buy my exact iron here: amzn.to/3mcEQ28
I have been terrified of FMQ with minky on my domestic. You have just given me a way that I feel my heart won't jump out of my chest. I was so afraid of ruining my machine. Do you thing it would be possible instead of sewing seams around the border as you showed to attach the minky with binding and then do the tacking. I like the traditional look from the front, but my family loves the minky backs.
Sure, you can do it however you’d like✅
❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for the tip to alternate starting ends. I learned the hard way after I had sewn many long rows of pieced strips together for a quilt and the finished rows started curving to one side. After ripping and sewing again with the same result, I faintly remembered that tip and finally got it together properly.
I love no long winded chatter before getting on with the video. Enough talking..yeahhhh.
How do you make the letter big?
I printed it out with my printer and then traced it bigger on another piece of paper✅
I did not know 2 ruler cutting.
Now once you buy that martelli mat with their non-slip ruler you won't have to use both of those rulers it will make your progress go even faster. And you can guess who this is
I'm on my old smartphone right now
LOL💛 Oh my word I can't keep track of you. What is your first name?
@@TheSewingChannel 😝😆😹 I will tell you next time we are both on the Fabric sale
Not sure if I will do notions night I can’t even remember if they’re having it
I bought brand new janome 740dc machine
That's wonderful Darlene💛 have fun with it✅
