    Exactly why I love my 1991 3.0 (slow) 2WD SR5 PU. 350,000 mile daily driver. Advanced timing equals more power than when it had only 88 miles on it without overheating. Parts say well in advance, "I'm going to break eventually, so plan on replacing me before I completely die."
    It's even more fun than when it was new, and it refuses to die regardless of how I drive it. Replace worn parts, do the maintenance, and you'll never be sorry.

    I just had my clutch replaced after 260,000 miles. It was working fine, but I thought it was time.

    Usually when a clutch goes out or wears out it's not a matter of disengaging, the problem is that you cannot get it to engage at all. I had the same problem and had to drive without the clutch for several weeks to get to work. Not only would my clutch not disengage I could not push the pedal down far enough to get the starter switch to kick in. That told me that it was a clutch linkage problem not a clutch problem. I started looking underneath the dash and saw that the clutch bracket was broken up in one corner, that's all it takes for the clutch to malfunction. A broken clutch pedal bracket is a common problem. It needs to be removed and replaced or welded back together and put back in.
    But since this video was from several years ago, you probably already figured this out.

      Taking the transmission out, I found the pressure plate had failed. The actual friction plate was good, but the spring steel fingers of the pressure plate lost their spring.

    @scooby1971ful The trans is okay.. no howling, stays in all gears and does not grind...ever. Shifting a synchro trans is okay as long as the RPMs match and you don't grind it. I have driven manual trans vehicles my whole life... synchro and unsynchro, they all can shift through the gears w/o a clutch as long as you do it right. Thanks for the comment, and watching my videos.

    @mbyr31 Hey Matt, Toyotas are a breeze. Their boxes are very light compared to the hot rod and truck clutches I have done. Didn't get the parts today...not very happy. Will have a vid up tonight about my situation. Thanks for watching.

    Sounds like a bad slave or master cylinder for the clutch. Do the full meal deal and you never have to worry about it. New flywheel, clutch disk, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot shaft bearing, slave and master cylinder.
    Syncromesh transmissions are hard to float, I learned on 13spds I shift them without a clutch it is easier.

  • @yourbeekeeper
    @yourbeekeeper  12 лет назад

    @Graveltrucking I have ordered the entire clutch kit. I will eval the flywheel when I get it apart, and the local NAPA has the slave master cyl. in stock if I think they need replacement. I will be able to get into it later today.

    If the clutch won't disengage it's more likely a leak in the hydraulic system. Also check the freeplay adjustment, a hydraulic clutch needs very little play if any at the pedal, usually a couple mm.

  • @yourbeekeeper
    @yourbeekeeper  12 лет назад

    @jonthealcoholic I checked out the hyraulic sysyem and could not find any leaks internal or external. Actually it feels like the pressure plate springs have failed. Gonna tear it apart this afternoon and get some video. Thanks for watching.

    took it to Midas open the manual transmission just to find out the Transmission clutch plate was put in backwards.... the top of pressure plate was rubbing against the flywheel bolts on a 1996 2.7 liter Toyota Tacoma

    @ndiboomer Ahhh, the old clutch cable...lol. I got to the point when coming to a stop sign, as long as I had a little roll going I could shift it into first and keep going. Thanks for watching NDI, I appreciate it.

    Well, it says AC Delco, but also says made in China. I was using the clutch regularly, just carefully. Driving habits and terrain really determine the life of a clutch.

    if you can shift that without the clutch the synchronizers in the transmission are gone.that is a synchrinized trabsmission

    I have never understood this!! If a client says they want a certain type of tile for fcks sakes don't go, "oh that'll be boring I think I'll put in 4 inch border with this blah blah blah" this kids is how bad reviews are born! If someone hires you and says they want something a certain way, do it that certain way, it's not rocket science.

    Your just asking for big transmission problems shifting without the clutch , if it hasn't happened already you took a big chance of damaging or breaking the synronizers rings .

    There isn't anything wrong with your clutch if you able to drive it around still. A clutch isn't for just for stops and starts.your having hydraulic issues with your clutch "pedal". If your clutch was bad, it would just slip and not go anywhere. Guaranteed, there's plenty of friction material left on the plate

    • @tylerkrug7719
      @tylerkrug7719 5 лет назад

      Or cable issues if it's a really old truck, and if it has a cable, it probably just needs to be adjusted

    • @yourbeekeeper

      the system is hydraulic and it turned out the spring forks on the pressure plate failed.

      I bought it used at the end of 99. It had 2400ish miles and I've drive my baby like an old man.
      I always said I was gonna drive my Tacoma until the wheels fell off.
      Well, the front left wheel did fall off. Bad ball joint! I'm still driving it to work 5 days a week. I've changed both upper and lower ball joints, starter, shocks and brakes. That's it other than the usual maintenance. Still drives like the day I bought it.

    • @yourbeekeeper

      This truck is still my daily driver as well... I am the second owner and bought it in '05 with just over 40k miles. I put an average of 12k miles a year and never walked away from this truck. I will drive it until the wheels fall off of it as well. hahaha. Have a great day.

    @yourbeekeeper With the price of gas nowwadays that little truck is worth gold the newer Toyotas are not as good as the one you have. Imagine if you had to drive a pickup truck with a 454 everyday lol.

    my clutch hates rush hour traffic feels like the clutch is overheating when you're stopping and going and stopping and going on the freeway during rush hour traffic again soon afterwards it does not want to go into gear it basically what the clutch all the way compressed to the floor it won't go into 2nd 1st 3rd it's like it just from the shifter... the shifter has turned into melted butter... it's feels like it's all soft and gooey... and truck will sometimes want to move.. right out of gear I don't get that

    • @yourbeekeeper
      @yourbeekeeper  7 лет назад

      If it is a hydraulic system, you could have air in your lines...or a failing hydraulic system. The other possibility is the pressure plate has failing/failed.

    wow a gm part in a toyota? well at least it will last forever bein a gm part haha
    oh yeah since you drive a standard shift perhaps you can answer this..is it true that not using a clutch makes it last longerr? not sure if that is what you been doing since 2005 but I hear it wears a clutch out faster if you use it to shift?
    good video

    • @tylerkrug7719

      Whoever told you that has absolutely no idea what there talking about, and doesn't actually know how a clutch works.
      That is untrue

    ok I have a 1989 Toyota pickup just put a brand new yota 1 motor in it figured I'd replace the clutch why it's all apart got everything together started the truck it will not go into gear while running will go I. all the gears off replaced master an slave still nothing took to a shop they pulled everything back apart found no problems still not working clutch pedal bracket seems to be fine don't see any cracks someone help !!

    • @yourbeekeeper
      @yourbeekeeper  7 лет назад +2

      You should start from the top and work down....Verify the clutch pedal has not gotten bent, damaged or otherwise worn out. Check the pedal arm bushing for wear, check the mounting area on the firewall/under the dash has not bent, cracked or otherwise worn to the point where the clutch pedal does not have it's full throw. New hydraulics, so ask yourself, did you accidently change the length of the adjustable road that pushes in the clutch master cylinder, is that rod properly aligned to the master cylinder, are they properly bled of air? do you see movement of the slave cylinder(while lying under the truck) when someone in the truck presses the clutch? if you see the piston move the clutch fork, does the cylinder hold it's position while the clutch pedal is held to the floor for 30 seconds? Is the clutch fork properly positioned on the pivot ball? has the fork bent, worn out or become damaged? is the throwout bearing properly clipped to the clutch fork? if all that looks good, then the transmission has to come out again...check to see if the friction plate has been install backward? that there is proper "cone" to the fingers of the pressure plate? on reasssembly, make sure everything is torqued to proper specs. Upon reassembly make sure everything lines up and there is nothing binding that would prevent proper alignment and movement.

    • @yourbeekeeper
      @yourbeekeeper  7 лет назад

      You're right, the fact that it was still driving would preclude a bad clutch disk. It Turned out to be a bad pressure plate. The spring steel fingers failed and lost their spring.
