- A North Texas police officer saved an elderly woman from becoming a victim of a scammer in another country and sending $40,000. Police in White Settlement say the alleged scammer was pretending to be a Chase Bank security employee. FOX's Peyton Yager reports on the story.

That's probably all the money that poor old lady has to live on for the rest of her life. These dirty scammers prey on the vulnerable like her. The lady who tried to stop her and called 911 is a hero.
unfortunately, there are many Indians that came through our southern border just the last four years doing this type of scams in person now, but instead of bitcoin, the scammer would convince the elderly person to convert the life savings into gold bars😢😢😢
Yeah and what about the dumb asses at the bank that let the lady withdraw thousands in cash - I bet nobody there tried to inquire as to what she was up to.

The hero is the woman who called 911 to protect an elderly woman who did not know needed to be protected!! She deserves a medal! Raise! Something!!
The lady who called 911 tried to stop her and she won’t listen, so she asked for help by calling 911, if the dispatcher and the cop did not take the call seriously, the old woman would be in huge trouble. All of them played a huge part equally!

@@TG-ke9ve If the cops hadn't been called, they could not have helped. All players are not equal. More often than not, the "first responders" are really second responders. However, the fact that they have more training, and in some cases more authority can help them to be more effective in responding.

I receive scam calls, and don’t answer them, and would never be in a gas station depositing $20k into a CRYPTO ATM fearing for my life being berated by Indian people in the phone. An elderly man recently shot and killed an innocent elderly woman bc he was in fear of the scammers who were harassing and threatening him in the phone. It’s okay to highlight that our elders are the main victims. I feel secure. But thank you.

This happened at my workplace. An elderly woman was trying to send $40,000 in cash to a lonely heart scammer. The police were contacted. The police set up an operation to catch the guy and the police also contacted her son. There are too many wicked people in this world.
Thanks to the wonderful woman who called the police and the cop who stopped her from losing all that money. I hope the woman has someone at home to prevent her from getting scammed again.

@@patroberts5449 You're right - once they get you to talk to them, they never let up. I had to get control of my parent's finances and limit their ability to spend/withdraw cash. They even read obituaries to get family names to call and pretend like your grandson needs bail money or is hurt.

Hopefully she got help and changed her phone number. I missed a phone doctors appt because I had all unknown calls go straight to voicemail. I take it off now when I have a phone appt.I almost got scammed by a bank text but I called my bank directly and they were able to show me the typos that made it not them .

People set up elaborate busts and give the local Indian police scam divisions all the evidence needed to convict, and they simply tip off the scammers to their up coming raids, and the places are empty by the time the cops arrive. India is 100% corrupt, from the floor to the ceiling.

The sigh of relief I just let out when the reporter said "the woman will get her $23,000 back" - sentences for these scammer should be so long. Look out for your grandparents if you have them, hell even your parents.

Reminds me of an elderly relative of mine who is always very scared when receiving unsolicited phone calls. Sad how these people manipulate the vulnerable.

Would be great if India's authorities would go after all these scammers in their nation, but they're probably taking money from them to look the other way.
I was in a bank one day to get some papers notarized and while I was waiting I noticed an elderly man talking on his cell phone with the volume turned way up. I could hear a man with a foreign accent telling him he could get either an I-tunes gift card or a Steam gift card and to be sure and load them with $1000 dollars. I went to the nearest employee and told them what I heard. When I left the bank the employee I had spoken with and the branch manager were talking with the old man. I sure hope they were able to convince him not to pay anyone with gift cards.

When I worked at Walmart a few years back, we would get these older people (50+) buying Steam gift cards like crazy.
Like hundreds of dollars of cards at a time. Some of the customers would always show up the same time every week or every other week like clockwork.
I would try so hard to get more information as to why they're buying so many (I really doubt they played PC games like that) and I would always get push back. One lady told me that she needed them bc she was in trouble.
These were poor working folk just handing whatever little money they had over to dirt bags.
It was frustrating to say the least.
@@YaowBucketHEAD same, I confronted my first and only one during the holidays while working there and had to gently explain to him that he's being scammed (after he showed me text messages in broken English claiming it was his grandson) and to explain the situation to the help desk people. I hope he found out and is more careful now.
Well done you. We have to try to look out for each other in life. I wish my neighbour had contacted me - he paid thousands and thousands to men who called at the door to repair his roof and then mid way through the job went to get them 2k more! I could not believe it. I thought he as a wise strong 70 year old, not an utter mug. His family persuaded him to sell the house and move into their street so they could look after him which was a good thing

That poor lady sounded so frightened. You could tell he was using intimidation on her. I'm glad someone saw and stepped in. Something similar happened to my grandmother years ago, but the family didn't find out until months later.

This makes my heart sink. I had to stop my aunt from being scammed several times. My aunt was a smart lady in her day, she retired from IBM but these scammers were slick. They had her convinced several different times. These people are disgusting.
A smart person would verify every angle of their interaction and be very scrutinizing.

Always always get second opinions. If you think your bank is contacting you. Contact your bank directly instead. Find a direct phone number that isn’t the one calling you.
My mom got scammed. These people piss me off. Thank you to that lady and the officer.

This happened at the assisted living place I work at. A clearly distressed resident was asking for a ride to the bank and the employees could just tell something was wrong. They talked to her and after discovering she was going to send 20k to obviously a scammer they refused to let her go and called the family to come and help talk her off the cliff. Happy ending but the emotional distress these elderly people go through even IF someone stops them is so sad.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the family members tryna get her money.

@@jp.9664 you haven't watched Scammer Payback have ya? He finds the scammers in India constantly. He's had multiple scammer sites shutdown, and the people inside arrested. All of it in India. He hacks their computers and deletes EVERYTHING. He's gotten tons of victims their money back, all of their money. He even turns on their webcams so we can see who they are, he calls them by their real names, not the fake ones that they use. Look him up, he's here on RUclips and on twitch. Every day.

Scammer Payback does. There are Scam Baiters out there who hack into the machines of scammers to return money to those who have been scammed.
Kitboga is involved too but I don't know if he goes beyond harassment and time wasting. At least he works with people who have the skills who can go beyond that.

Look up scammer payback. They'll stop mid live stream when they hear something in the background or see it on their reverse hack and try to stop the person before they send. They'll even try to intercept the person at the bank if local to them.

Thank you to the young woman and the police officer for stepping in and saving this older woman and her savings 🏆🏆!! This was emotional for me to watch: I have watched numerous videos from anti-scammers who intervene early, but I had not seen a video where the victim had already paid over $29K to the scammer and was panicked in her talking with the scammer because she believed she was speaking with the bank security officer. (Thankfully her funds were halted from the transfer by her not yet pushing the “Submit” button.) Appreciation to all 🙏.

Banks need to have a policy of no Indian accents allowed on cstomer service. Even so, no bank will ever call you asking to transfer money.
@@michaelweyenberg6238 unfortunately a lot of American companies have been outsourcing their customer service calls to overseas call centers, so reputable tech support, financial institutions, etc. will have customer service reps that sound like they could be scammers if you're just going off of the accents -- so yeah it's more important to judge off of what they're asking of you (i.e. going to a gas station to convert money into bitcoin) vs. where they're from

Most of these scammers are from India 🇮🇳The US and India have good government relations. US should bring extradition treaties with India for these call scams, so that these scammers can be tried in US courts and spend time in US jails.

Unfortunately there is not a lot the US can do as many of these scammers come from countries with lax enforcement (India, Nigeria), or with countries that actively encourage scammers (Russia, China).
Pro tip: unplug the machine if the elderly person doesn’t stop. These machines do not belong in society.

Did you not watch the video? The lady literally said she was feeding dozens of $100 bills into the crypto currency machine and that’s how she knew something was wrong.
In this day and age, if someone in their 70s-80s is feeding a lot of money into a crypto machine, they don't have a clue they are being scammed and that is why scammers never go for younger generations. We know too much about technology and scams.

Banks need to have a system for their seniors. To many cases where people get scammed because they believe something. It could save everyone a headache if banks had extra protection for seniors. Just an idea 😅

My husband is a retired cop of 31 years. In the last 10 years of duty I cant tell you how many people he was able to stop from doing this. One of tham was my own Aunt. They get super pissed lol. Scammers are garbage. I hope each one gets back 10 fold the hurt that they have caused other people

Notice how the old woman even when police officer is telling her otherwise she is still insisting that she is in trouble and needs to do this. The scammers targets the vulnerable and get them believing anything they say, old people who has little knowledge or understanding of technology are at risk as they tends to believe anyone claiming authority and threatening them over any written warning or notices posted by real banks and authorities. It's how they were raised and educated to do when they were young, there needs to be wide spread educational campaign fornthe elderly on technologies and dangers of strangers on the phone claiming authority.
A few people should be rewarded for saving the woman from poverty.

I’m so glad my 79 year old mother would not fall for something like this. Talk to your elderly parents and make sure they talk to you before sending anyone even their own bank, any amount of money. I commend this bystander and police officer for stepping in and stepping up. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
My 75 year old mother who knew better and still gave a scammer $300.Glad she called me about it right afterword, but had to spend a little bit of time getting all the software off her computer so they couldn't clean her out.

After watching RUclipsrs like Kitboga for years, it never ceases to amaze me the lengths these scumbags will go to convince/bully a victim into doing what they want. I've seen people pretend to have a child dying in the hospital. The scammer STILL insists that they leave and go buy gift cards or withdraw money from the bank. Once saw a scambaiter fake a heart attack on the call and the scammer (a woman that time) told him to just sit down with a glass of water, relax, then head to the bank.
People need to either explain scams to elderly family members, or try to introduce them to a scambaiter they find entertaining, so they can learn what to look out for.
My brother saw a heated argument between a Walgreens checker and a woman customer trying to buy thousands in gift cards - the checker kept telling her she was being scammed and she knew all about it but the customer refused to believe it. Eventually the customer left but you can bet she went to another store.

In the United States, you may get someone in customer service in another country if you do a call to the company but companies do not have other countries randomly calling their customers. So actually that is the biggest flag that the call is a scam. USA telemarketing companies will never be outsourced because of that.

The sad thing is, these scammers have made millions, if not billions, off of the elderly. I was almost caught up in a scam one time. I was in my 20s and got a call saying something was wrong with my taxes, and if i didn't pay a certain amount, I would be arrested. I was horrified and about did it until a coworker came up, who saw I was distressed, and told me about the scam.
They feed on people’s fear.

via emails to you, links, all of it. Always call direct to the bank yourself or go there if you can and speak to the employees, bank manager.
Don't fall for the packaging scams either via emails stating your package will not be delivered because your information is incorrect, etc. SCAM.

This is why a basic level of internet literacy is necessary regardless of age. Even if its just absolute basics
"Dont click on anything from anyone you dont know"
"if someone needs you to send them money for anything, no they dont"

They need to find out if any family members are aware of her situation. It's obvious that she requires some sort of professional supervision. Poor thing. I'm glad that the customer and officer intervened.

I think she was just scammed and not aware of how the scams work. Those are the ones who get taken. It doesn’t mean she’s ready for supervision so much as Education. A good sit down talk, watch some scambaiting RUclips videos and she’ll be set.

Nah that's a fucked up judgement to make. I hope no one does that to you as you age. Do you even know how these scams work? They are very convincing and are engineered to get the victims to act quickly, without time to think, or face legal trouble. One of the ways they are so believable is they ask for the number to your local bank branch and then call "them" for you. Once the bank IVR picks up, another scammer gets on the line pretending to be the bank.

I applaud this nice lady calling the cops, and for this policeman helping, and taking over the phone. I feel so sorry this poor elderly lady fell into this trap.

I am 77 years old and I pray for a scammer to contact me so I can toy with them right up to the point where I would send money.

Not to sound any type of way but there needs to just be a PSA put out for all the old folks out there, if you receive a call and the person sounds foreign, hang up and call the bank/company whatever on their advertised phone number! I know older folks grew up in a different time, and that as you age some folks can't catch onto things as easily anymore, but some of these scams are so painfully obvious! As a society we should do something to make it clear to them, DO NOT BELIEVE THE GUY/WOMAN ON THE PHONE!!!! Visit your bank in person or something!

That lady was lucky God sent her there . Those people are very kind to step in and help. Even if some people don't believe in God that's their choice.
