Baldur's Gate 3 - Dark Urge Eats Noblestalk Before Meeting Butler

  • This is what happens when you eat the noblestalk as the dark urge before meeting Sceleritas Fel, as the usual memory involves him.
    I used the More Noblestalk mod to get noblestalk easily but you could also trigger this by just not long resting much between the grove and getting the noblestalk, and not triggering the butler's arrival.

    Let’s be real, many durges would end themselves after that. Just imagine having barely any clue who you are, then suddenly finding out you ate babies.

    "the fore or hind Quarter will make a reasonable Dish, and seasoned with a little Pepper or Salt, will be very good boiled on the fourth Day, especially in Winter" is a quote from: A modest proposal for preventing the children of poor people in ireland from being a burden to their parents or country, and for making them beneficial to the public, a satirical parody by Jonathan Swift (1729)

  • @Norinia

    ‘Each of your deaths is a mercy. Better for life cut short than to walk the same Earth as you.’
    Dear lord, how badly did Bhaal torture child Dark Urge for them to get to thinking such?
    I had thought the prior Dark Urge had zero redeeming qualities, and never thought then how is it possible that Durge can change and become a better person now?
    This answers what I was too pigheaded to question. It was never their nature to simply kill, slaughter, and maim. *It was beaten into them,* the same way Child Soldiers are trained to kill.
    Durge never had a choice before, but that wasn’t because they were a mindless animal or a purely evil soul, the thought that there was ever another path was crushed, smashed to smithereens, and then lit ablaze. All to keep them in line.
    Like the butler’s actions through Redeemed Dark Urge story, how he jeers Durge into killing their lover. Who’s to say he never forced Durge into similar situations? Who’s to say if Durge had an innocent, loving pet, that the butler wouldn’t grab it by it’s ears, shove it into Durge’s shocked hands, and beat it against the wall, while child Durge’s eyes were ablaze with trauma?
    Dark Urge never had a choice in being Bhaal’s chosen. But by finally gaining freedom through amnesia (and temporarily being hidden from Bhaal’s sight as they reformed their real personality) they were able to find the strength, through their friends and family, and finally, after decades of cowing to Bhaal’s cravings, reclaim their life to live how their soul wishes it.

    • @mal8711
      @mal8711 10 месяцев назад +85

      EXACTLY THAT. AND THERES EVIDENCE FOR IT!!!!!!! if you cast heal on yourself before killing orin, you remember having a foster family as a child that bhaal drove you to massacring. if you cast heal on yourself post-orin, you remember a time before bhaal, where you played with other children. you can also find notes about dark urge's affections for gortash where they beg for their father's forgiveness (presumably so bhaal doesnt drive them to killing him). to be the dark urge is to be very lonely, indeed.

      @@mal8711my fucking god. I knew this character was fucked up with evidence of torture, uncontrollable murder and necrophilliac but by the fucking devils they just get worse don’t they? The Durge pre-knife / pre-nerf is the most evil and despicable creature to roam Faerun all while looking wholly innocent and inconspicuous.
      They were so fucking evil that the Netherbrain has a line saying it would have followed their plan because it was just so sinister.
      And all it took for Durge to have a slight chance of rebirth and change was a knife to the face.
      It makes sense why Durge has Baldurian dialogue choices then. They were once genuinely innocent and happy until Bhaal truly unleashed them.

    Ok, so the dark urge is canonically a ritualistic mass murderer, a child murderer, a cannibal and a necrophiliac who wears the flayed skin of their victims. I'm doing a 'resist' run right now and I am thoroughly creeped out by my durge 😬
    I mean, I love her to pieces but she was a total creep in her former life.

    • @speedyazi5029
      @speedyazi5029 10 месяцев назад +59

      Durge is fucking evil in a body. No denying. People act like Durge should be forgiven. No. They were the most evil being conjured, they are Bhaal’s favoured specimen. The only reason why Resist Durge is given empathy is because they are an amnesiac with the wonder and confusion of a child. That is the only time they can truly experience (if player decides) friendship, love and morality because their entire past life was built for murder and tyranny.
      Only until the mightiest God can forgive Durge are they actually given a chance to live their own spirit in their own body. This character is written so well.

      Funny how the perception of the character changes depending on how you play them. I did the most sickly sweet "no random NPC will die even as collateral damage" run, resisted every urge I could (sorry, Alfira) and as a result can't even see my Dark Urge girl as the evil she is (was). Haven't finished yet though so maybe if the game shoves images of her performing genocide in my face, I'll reconsider.

      @@speedyazi5029 Its amazing; I definitely think the magic of the tadpoles had something to do with them being able to resist the urge for sure. I know their brains were scrambled, but I dont think thats the whole story. I think if they werent tadpole'd, even with lost memories, its possible they would just become a murderous psychopath for a second time, because while his memories might be gone, his divinity, which by its nature can very well turn you into a murderous sociopath is not, its still driving their souls until theyre redeemed. The tadpole is the chance at redemption

      @@AnastasiaAisling Yah, honestly resisting all the way seems too easy. I rp'd a ton with it because my character was Chaotic Good with a hot temper and violent outbursts; so I would often pick Dark Urge options intentionally depending on the stress of the situation and other factors, but the closer I got to learning of my past the harder it was to resist for my character

      @noecarrier5035 10 месяцев назад +53

      Just don't Long Rest as often. Pretty easily done for certain party compositions or just for the sake of the scene. Accessing the Underdark is really easy. You can get there via the Zhentarim hideout, for instance. Go straight there from the start. Get past the goons, go to the back, sneak downstairs to the UD. Avoid the Minotaurs, book it down to the Myconid colony, thence to the Blibberbang field...

    • @rachelm6650
      @rachelm6650  10 месяцев назад +38

      I used a mod to get the noblestalk early, though you could probably do it by heading straight to the under dark. The first dark urge scene triggers after you cross the bridge outside the blighted village, though I don’t know if it still does if you never went to the grove. The butler comes the next long rest, so as long as you only long rest once between crossing that bridge and getting the noblestalk you’d be able to get this scene, but it’s a weird way to play. There’s a lot of weird failsafes in the game to account for the weirdest behaviour.
      There is no difference in the meeting with the butler from eating noblestalk first.

    • @noecarrier5035
