I just got the 41 in champagne - it’s amazing. For anyone looking on it will look like a Rolex. Sort of an OP with a DJ jubilee, a very versatile, beautiful watch. Unreal that Tudor now have a curvy case that’s every bit as pretty as Rolex models.
These two video comparisons you did are wonderful and very comprehensive. Gives me all the info I need to decide between the old and new BB36. I miss the snowflake seconds and the smile and I totally agree that the only reason to “upgrade” to an “in-house” movement was to justify a big price increase. I prefer the new case and the new minute hand and I love the gild dial. And I also love the jubilee bracelet in the steel and yellow gold (what can I say … I love everything about the 1980s including the watches). I’ll be buying the new BB36.
I like these changes and it’s clear Rolex wants Tudor to occupy a segment where they will basically put out vintage Rolex inspired pieces to compete with Omega
Just bought the new BB39 and really like it. I also own a datejust on an oyster bracelet the Roman numerals. They are very different watches in my opinion. Tudor is doing a very good job filling some of of the Rolex demand.
I think you nailed it. This is simply the brand moving upmarket to compete where Rolex used to. You can't move upmarket and charge $5k with Selitta movements. Well, you can, I guess. But my brain goes automatically to Grand Seiko in that range.
Indeed. Tudor will be ( er..already is) more entry level with designs catering to a wider market square ( sunburst, jewels,etc.). It would be more distinct if Tudor had snowflake handset, matt dials & square indices and an 'O' bracelet and non - gilt ( why on BB54 as well - I know why ( homage to 54 diver) but why?), dials at least as options (sigh...).
I like the Rolex DJ, but I don’t like it enough to pay the premium. I’d rather buy a Sub, which I’m on the list for. The new BB 36 is in that range that I’d pay to get something of a similar quality and look. Not to mention I prefer the aesthetics of the new BB. I wanted the BB36 years ago but it was too bland for me, now the changes are everything I was looking for. I don’t feel like I’m wearing a watch that’s like a Rolex that I couldn’t afford. And I’m secure enough not to care if someone else thinks that about me. I feel like I’m wearing a quality watch that I like, for a price that’s in the range I’m happy to pay for this style of watch. It’s not about affordability, it’s about bang for buck for me personally.
The new watch is better in almost every way. Tudor is in the business of selling watches and your beloved BBs weren’t selling. This version will sell because it looks better and is better.
It’s much nicer. The case now is incredible, it’s every bit as well finished as an Explorer or OP case - lots of polished curves. Huge step up for an everyday watch. I think these watches are a bit of an undiscovered gem - Tudor dealer told me they are selling like hot cakes.
The Black Bay 36 M79500-0007 is the only true frugal alternative to the Rolex Explorer 1 (m124270-0001) 36mm hands down! But now Tudor and Rolex decided a different route for it. The new BB36 and the other size variants are now more of the OP alternative. I am keeping my M79500-0007 But the BB34 is a good value proposition.
Totally agree. The BB54 is starting to catch my eye because it’s something Rolex would never do, a heritage piece. I wanted an updated BB36, not a DJ. Now, the BB54 is feeling like it could fill that void created by the new BB36.
I definitely will try to get hold of the previous BB36 instead of the new model...oyster bracelet and black dial are mich better than the more trendy new version.
I compared them both side by side. Much prefer the new model, with the curvy case it is more like a Rolex OP / DJ / Explorer, rather than a diver without a rotating bezel.
@@ronpower7790 I’ve have always liked blues, but I’m enjoying the Champagne for a change. I never liked black dials as half the time I wear brown shoes / belt, I don’t like the contrast.
The sad thing is that now the BB will really be "the poor's man Rolex". That's bad, because if what you want a Rolex you'll never really feel happy with a Tudor...
Very well said, the new BB36 and family are a step in the wrong direction. The BB54 is very enticing though. Do you have any plans to check it out in person? Would love to hear your thoughts about it!
It looks so bad! They took a tool watch and made it a dress watch. Just a miss all around. They got ride of the deep black dial and replaced it with these horrible sunburst dials, they put it on a jubilee and took away the smile text.
They will probably want to retire thises ugly tudor style and glamour. And came back closer to what a tudor prince where. Datejust with eta movement. Now when need a date black bay now! A lot of people can't afford a rolex anymore so this is probably why.

@@QuartzCrisis right Tudor and Rolex price points sandwich omegas prices. Burn the candle at both ends
@@QuartzCrisis I did purchase the new BB 36 because I was waiting for the new movement. I’m really excited but I do see how some of the charm is gone.
@@kevinpascual Hey it's not a bad watch at all. I like it and you will enjoy it a lot

Don't forget that they also sell Rolex. So their goal is to maximize the sales of both brands and that might impact the "lesser" brand
Dial isn't better at all

I might, but I'm still more a vintage collector. Vintage watches are getting my focus.
I want my Black Bay 36 to look like a Tudor not like a Rolex. I never did like the looks of any Rolex. Their looks just suck!!!!
The minute hand is not that similar imho. Otherwise I agree
