We don't always need every detail. The fact that it's painted with trunk stripes, tells the tale. Sometimes it's just more gooder to jump a few pages forward in a book... Great Job!
I'm so impressed with the quality of work you do, at home in your garage, like most of us watching have to do. Also how quick your restorations projects move along... Keep up the great work !
Thanks! For me I really enjoy putting these cars back together so it’s not work and I find that I am very productive that way. This one is definitely record time
Wow that is turning out so great! The owner of this car is going to be so happy. If you put this in a shop it would be years to get to this point not months. Nice work Jon.
I have had a few people tell me that I am moving quickly and definitely agree this is the quickest I have done a car. The crazy part is I only do a few hours here and there I don’t do this full time. If I did I wonder how many I could get done in a year.
@@VinylVillageGarage pace yourself as you eluded that burnout is always close at hand. My channel is growing however the algorithm is a tough one to beat. Not many know how actually tough it is to succeed. You are doing great. I have learned so much from you! Carry on!
@RandDCustoms2 yes sir, RUclips definitely has its challenges but if was easy we would all be doing it and then no one would succeed. It only makes sense for RUclips to survive it this way.
Jon.. that paint work came out above average , considering you painted it in a DIY garage! The cut and buff will make it top notch! Thank you as always for sharing and encouraging others.
My wife bought me two sandwiches and a pint of Brunswick Stew yesterday from my favorite restaurant for the last 52 years (when we moved to GA), Old Hickory House in Tucker. When she goes to Atlanta, she stops by there to get me some grub. I watched this video while eating a sandwich, and it occurred to me that the Diablo sandwich in Smokey and The Bandit came from OHH. They still have it on the menu. Mockingbird looks great.
No video on painting, no problem. When you’re in the zone, just keep on rocking. That car is looking amazing. It’s giving me some ideas for our next project. Don’t tell Kelli.😎
I like your work! very nice! I’ve painted several in my garage and the trick I found is after spraying clear the next day I would sand the entire car with 1000 lightly, just enough to remove the dust and nibs and break the shine. Then I would come back masking 1 panel at a time and carefully clean and spray I more shot of maybe 10% thin clear. This flashes very quickly. Move to another panel covering up your last one and repeat. End result was a fabulous nearly dust free finish that requires almost no finish polishing. Just how I did it.
Great job john! I'm currently waiting for it to cool down here in vegas so I can spray my car for the third time. Hopefully I can lay it down smooth. First time orange peel second time gas bubbles. Third time yet to see. Almost could live with my second try. Car deserves better so hear I go! Lol any anyone that claims car painting is easy have never picked up a gun. Sanded down again just waiting. Nice job!
The last coat on the stripes was a bit of an afterthought, I had just a little leftover clear and I didn’t want to waste it. It’s not cheap!!! Hindsight is always 20/20 and won’t do that again. It will clean up but definitely made more work for myself.
Wonder when you paint the other car black, could you go into detail of how you paint it? I am going to paint my T/A black and have been told not to do it myself because black is too hard to do.
You are awesome! Thanks. As for painting the black car I will go over that one. The thing different about black is it highlights and bad body work more then lighter colors. The key to success is very good prep work. Other then that Is there a specific question in mind?
@VinylVillageGarage NO other questions. It will be my first one to redo, so nervous about it. It is an 81 trans am with a couple of good dings, but they can be hammered out with work and time. Definitely have learned a lot from your channel.
That is awesome, my first car I ever painted was black and it still looked Great all things considered. It was painted in my parents back yard. Again I had several hours in block sanding to get it straight. Actually the car I will be repainting black again is the first car ever painted.
What a road, from the wreck that you started with. Looks fantastic. Nice and clean. If you want that third coat on the stripes, try fogging that in first, instead of laying it on the top as a third coat. Makes for less of that haze at the end...it can still get a little texture-y though. The hood may just get a full 3 coats?

@@VinylVillageGarage nah...don't sweat it. Looks like it melted in ok. And you're definitely farther ahead getting that extra material on the stripes, if you want a seamless look
Been watching you and picking up some of your tricks. Because of you I am going to paint my car inside the porch area of my shop. its 12 by 60. I had planned to put up tarps and make some type of fans with vents at one end with filters at both ends to draw the paint. Do you use any type of fan to exhaust the paint? It does not look like that to me. I have a scissor lift that I will use to raise and lower to car to make it easier to spray top and bottom. I do not have any neighbors so I can do my own thing. Thanks for your help, great tips on every part of the process. thanks
In the past I have set up fans and if you can I would recommend that. Unfortunately this garage doesn’t have and back windows or doors so I can draw in a fresh are to run thru a fan. A fan would help reduce the paint over spray dust from collecting and will give you a smoother finish.
@@VinylVillageGarage thanks for the reply, i am amazed that you don't use fans and filters. I plan on doing a wall of filters and fans on one end and filters on the other, may have to use a fan on the other side also. anyway you give out some good tips I plan on using. I have done several paint jobs since my first one in 1974, but it has been 8 years since my last one. Base coat clear coat is still the same, I hope.
The white base was XL coatings. The Tyrol blue was leftover PPG dbc base from my trans am project. Then the clear is PPG 2042 and I love that stuff lays nice and buffs back to a mirror finish.
wow! I guess the air dryer really worked well. Looks fantastic Jon. The blue on the car, is that equivilent to chevy glacier blue or Lemans blue? And the white likely is same as chevy Dover white I would expect. GM had different names for the same paint colors depending on wheather it was used on Chevy, Pontiac or other GM product.
@@VinylVillageGarage yes sir I'm doing the same exact paint scheme the kit is for the 69 Firebird it's 350 bucks tell vinyl it's all goes all the way over the car I'll see if I can try to send you a photo of it
I Am just happy the painting is almost complete for this one. The stripes cause me anxiety trying to keep the lines straight and clean plus get it done.

I plan to go that route with my car which I plan to paint black so I figure the less sanding and buffing the paint will look much better.
That sure came out great!!

I feel your pain. I have been there myself. That is how we learn and adapt. I wish you success this time.
Looking good Jon. Pro tip for the next build, spray the clear on your stripes first and then build the body clear. Less time sanding the dry spots.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were not the same. Kinda like carousel red and hugger orange. The line dryer didn’t let
Me down and worth the money.
Nice! Are you going to the Trans am nationals this weekend?
Yup will be there tomorrow morning 9ish
How much blue does it take for 1 car? One pint?
I bought a pint for my trans am and this car used a little more but I bet a pint would do 4 cars
There is a decal kit for the blue on eBay
