one thing ive taken to doing since AAT, is rushing export focus, and doing German Swedish trade agreement after rhineland/ before Four year plan. since you lose a bunch of resources to exporting the trade agreement lets me offset the loss of steel, and gives me access to swedens sweet, sweet tungsten. this also gives me leeway with the industry research bonuses from Four year plan. im by no means a great player though, and this could turn out to actually be detrimental
After 4k hours in this game I will give you one tip that I see almost no one using. One of the greatest QoL tips ever and will vastly improve your video's in the future in my humble opinion. Shift click on the little yellow arrow in the top left of any production line. It minimizes the list of production lines and makes it so much easier to see what is happening without endless scrolling. Other than that, good video!
I swear, I can play Kurdistan starting as a one province minor with no factories and conquer half the planet but I struggle playing as Germany to take over Poland without losing a million manpower 😭
It would be nice to make a tutorial how to organize your armies. Not the templates but how to assign armor and infantry to different generals and how to organize marshals. Sounds simple but that would help out a lot since handling almost 200 divisions is not so easy as a newbi.
Hey bittersteel, where in your video did you send your navy out? I can't seem to find a segment where you gained the naval xp at the start, happy holidays!
I enjoy watching you play hoi 4, I wanted to say 2 things one when i play germany I normaly annex all of czecslovakia to trade for danzig, cuting the poles from the sea helps me fight most of the time, and I have a stupid obsesion with always having %100 tank reliabilty. forgive my bad grammer i am rather sick.
I used to be so good at Germany but It took me months to finish off Poland and I couldn’t get past Belgium and I have lost so much confidence in my ability to play hoi4 well 😭
7:05 no dont do this. Make a 1936 battleship give it level 1 on the battery engine and armor. The worst battle ship possible. Use all of your dockyards on them. By sept 1940 you are able to project 10k naval supremacy. Enough to just invade through the channel. If you want to be 100% certain you can add the other 35 day naval focus after 4 year plan. Delay war with poland by a month.
For increasing division count, it would be easier to exercise up to 5 army xp, then make a new division with one cav battalion and spam that up to your target division count. Also now you have a good cavalry garrison division. Then if you need men in the field for Anschluss change the divisions of this template you have to normal division template and bling, you have a lot of men on the field. The german cavalleriebrigade still requires arty and support equipment.
Excellent guide, will be trying this soon I frequently f'd up the Low Countries invasion and as a result the French would park a huge amount of divisions on the border and make breaking through (with my far inferior tank divisons to yours) very hard.
Lmao idk how but I wasn't even able to equip my armies by 1939 and it took me much longer to get the same amount of factories. I think I'm actually done with this game. Every single time I try, I get worse. Tried following the guide and it just took me somewhere else entirely and made it impossible. 1940 and I still haven't invaded France let alone capitulated the UK.
32:05 Paradox has changed Belgium to be protected by the USA so everytime an attack is made on Belgium the US will be called in. I haven't tried it but perhaps an early invasion of Netherlands & Belgium will prevent the US guaranteeing Belgium.
Well it shows the important parts. And you can't follow a Hoi4 game one to one. Even in historical things are slightly different every time, like the number of divisions a country will have at a certain date and so on.
Instructions unclear i have 0 fuel italy lost to ethiopia i have 10000 tanks deficit i have created mine tanks 3 months after in the tutorial but atleast japan cant breakthrough bejing
The MIO fast tank, is incredibly op in germany, super fast tank, and the chief of the army + 10% speed, the military theorist heinz guderian +10%, and if you go with blitskrieg, another + 5% speed
germany can already outrun the AI with basically zero problem, you will run out of combat capability due to lack of fuel and lack of supply long before the enemy catches up to you. Plus mechanized and trucks have a set speed as well, (8km/h and 12km/h respectively) meaning that eventually when you replace your trucks with mechanized your cap will be at 12 kmh anyways. If you do still want to have more than 12kmh at that point, there is largely no reason to go for higher speed mechanized by way of sacrifincing IC when you can just repurpose your old trucks and production line on truck divisions to rush ahead of your tanks as well as hold the encirclement open. tldr: for super fast divisions that can create massive encirclements, use mot. inf to run in the enemy backline and tanks as mobile hole punchers with the best land combat capability in the game. Speed is mostly valuable out of combat regardless, and building your tanks for speed requires even further IC commitment to mechanized speed, or to sacrifice mechanized for trucks, when you can choose to do neither by running with trucks as your speardhead and tanks as your hole puncher.
At 7:01 the player is instructed to build a new, cheaper destroyer template. Although this requires naval experience, the video does not instruct the player how this was earned. Based on my own tests, if you set your entire navy to drill on day one, you should have around 20 naval experience by march 1936, as shown in the video.
My boy thank you so much. Your old video on Germany is what got me started. I’m sure you saw my comments lol. I was helping some others that couldn’t quite follow it. Even though was a little dated. Thanks so much for making this. I know how much time it takes to do this. Also do you ever realese long format (not that this isn’t long) but I mean an unedited version
30:00 how to so multiple naval invasion orders? Whenever I tried to use the same general for more than one order, it cancels the previous order. The only way I am able to do that is if I assign a bunch of generals
What you could also do is instead of using the research bonus for the four-year plan on machine tools you could use it in 1939 construction tech which will be very useful. Just make sure you take the army innovations as your second focus because the timing will fail otherwise.
Steel says that you start out with historical trades (Sweden steel) however I don't for reasons unbeknownst to me. Historical focus checked, all DLC active.
I would love to see the focus priorities all the way through, right now, I'm kind of trying to find the places in the video where you talk about focus.
I saw you building infra and civs, but at the start of the game, I always build mills as Germany. You get like 70% mill building speed and it is insane how fast you can make them and have sht ton of equipment
@@Bitt3rSteel huh? I was able to fully fill my army with tanks only and steam roll the entire world. Past certain point, civs don't do that much, only when you need to have resources, which you get from focuses and conquering either way. I use Miffos to my advantage
Thanks for this video. I especially liked your detailed explanation of taking out the Soviet Union. A couple questions please. 1) Why not puppet the Far Eastern Republic when you annex the Soviet Union as part of the peace deal? If you do this then when Japan declares war your new puppet won't be in the war and will allow you to move troops to East Asia without losing territory to Japan's initial blitz. 2) Why go through the focus tree to annex Western Europe? If you instead immediately justify on Belgium followed by France, then you can take Belgium before they join the Allies which immediately gives you a long front for taking France quickly. I use the spearhead battle plan with my tanks to break into Belgium quickly. France will join the Allies when you declare war. But, you can capitulate them quickly since you have an unfortified front. Again I use the spearhead to move my tanks along the coastal victory points while allowing my infantry to push to Paris. Then, you setup your naval invasion from Wilhelmshaven into Hull, set your fleet to Strike Force in the two relevant sea provinces and call in Italy. You then wait for naval supremacy to happen randomly. While you wait, you can pick off European minors with fast war justifications since you're at war with a major. I can usually have Britain capitulated well before 1939. This seems like the fastest and easiest strategy to me. Wouldn't this be the best strategy to help introduce newbies to Germany?
You can get 1939 economy as early as 1938 if you delay four year plan. Just take 2 x focus after Rhineland and ensure machine tools and dispersed/construction are already being researched. You can catch up on your military technology in no time.
Great video, the only problem I'm having is some confusion, like at a time you took the horse recruitment off, and on a cut it was back with less units so I wondered if I should have left it? Because I removed when I saw that you removed and then it was back later so I didn't get anschluss at the same time as you, there's these little details that got me confused, but it's good anyway
@@Bitt3rSteel13:07 it has no horses training anymore and on 17:35 there are 7 horses trained, so I got confused about what should i have done when I reached 17:35, but even tough I managed to win from allies on other try so it is still helpful a lot.
With the PP from Rheinland i like to get Free Trade asap. The bonuses it provides to both research and construction speed is invaluable. Sure, you have less resources but its still enough for your starting production cause you spam Civs until 38 anyways.
Heyyy, nice video, thank you once again, you make my job lot easier. I listen/watch everyday I can. Btw idk why but I can't change quality of the video :// i thought it was bcs it was new video but I'm rewatching rn and it still don't let me change it to better
You don't need to train Cavalry Brigade. After Rhineland, you get five Army XP. You can then use that XP to make a two-width division of your choice and spam that.
thanks for this video, I totally messed up in poland before. When I started to just snake without caring about front lines poland fell within like 5 days
but I am struggling with getting England to abandon the channel (you got really lucky with your AI) WITHOUT having to call Italy into the war. Having Italy in the war makes everything really easy, but then I have to share stuff with them
I'd actually really like a production/supply tutorial. I am literally always in an equipment deficit on guns, tanks, and artillery. I have some ideas what I'm doing wrong, but I've never really figured it out
The beginning of this guide finally let me win against France and Germany, I’ve never won before, always end up losing half of mainland Germany because the British naval invade me when I’m unprepared and fighting on 3 different fronts with zero manpower
I would add that you can avoid war with Japan by disbanding Axis and joining Co-Prosp Sphere. Can take over faction inmediately after and help them finish off China while also avoiding MEFO payment.
I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I cannot push through Belgium and France as easily as you and others do it. I am using the *same* templates, have air superiority, am attacking at the same time of year - in fact, I've followed this guide to the letter and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. When I get to Belgium I can push in, and can sometimes swing along the coast into France but a couple of tiles in and I hit a wall of British, French, and Belgium troops. My tanks can push that but then they're screwed by low supply. Even if I block ship movement in the Channel, until my railways are fixed or connected via friendly territory, I am low on supply. I don't know how these guys making these guides just move through and capitulate France like there's nobody home. I don't get this game and it's driving me mental.
Same for me. The supply fucks me every time. Before 1 or 2 updates i could easy swep through with 18 width light tanks divisions, now i cant do it with 35 width tank divisions. Next time ill try again with smaller Divisions. The Supply mechanic sucks so much...
I play against max buff sov plus USA on historical iron man. The key to Germany early on is getting to war economy as quick as possible. Using PP for goebels asap then to war economy. I also build some maybe 1/10 factories as mils, just to provide some extra efficiently lines prior 1939. If I just stick to civs. I have a big industry but no war stock.
Interesting. Ive played a lot as france latelly, i usually rush civs and use to buy crapton of trash from others to send lots of volunteers... kind of fun to go as a lone fascist and beat axis, then allies then comittern, the last im not doing cuz my pc is weak and by then soviets, chineses, japaneses and americans have waaay too many divisions and the sluggish progress of the time make me start another game😂
"I don't really use infantry that much as Germany" *immediately makes tank division full of mobile infantry* The buffs from the Mobile Infantry side of the doctrine tree are so massively better, it's not even close, *even if you're focusing on tanks.* Your motorized org increases, which is huge (lets you cram more tanks into your "ideal" division) but, *even more importantly*, your Recovery Rate SKYROCKETS. The consequences of that are huge: your tank divisions will re-org massively faster, meaning they can push wayyyy more relentlessly and, if they make an encirclement and need to "hold the door" open, they are far less likely to get pushed back out, because they've re-orged so quickly. Go with Mobile Infantry, everybody. No matter what your build is, it's strictly better. Your tank divisions also rely on mobile infantry, and the numbers aren't even close.
watching this makes me want to play the game again but i can't forget the frustation ive got whenever i i played before. lmao. you make it looks that ez.
You said you wanted to go right in MW because breakthrough bonuses so you can make tank with more attack and not focus on breakthrough but your div would have already too much of it without thoses bonuses. Plus your tank disign is already a breakthrough tank because of 3man turret and radio. You could have enough BT without them allowing you cheaper tank or more attack tank by replacing the radio with canon/machin gun. The hard cap for breakthrough you spoke of in the video is that more brakthough than the enemy have attack does nothing (as it divid by 4 the damage tanken by attacks up to its amount) so this div is made to breakthrough divs with more than 500hard attack and unless ai got updated to spam AT she would never reach that high of a value and even if it was the amount of piercing given by those AT would be so high that it would pass this armor value making the slope armor just a price increase (well it would still help with the combat bonus of not beeing pierced against the other divs of the army)
You, my good sir, have a beautiful way of pronouncing words. I don’t pronounce words that aren’t familiar with my native language well at all, which even then, I still have trouble.
Good vid but please, add somewhere the focuses or research u took cause i sometimes just cheat to meet the time because i never even knew i had to take those focuses
A very nice beginner guide, as I'm one myself. I'm very confused by how HOI4 works and I don't understand a lot of it. At 7:05 you make a new ship, but I can't make it because I don't have the necessary naval experience. I haven't seen you do anything with the navy, so I'm a bit lost. Could you help me?
I had this same problem, I'm fairly sure he just sets the whole navy at the start to exercise. If you shift click exercise on them they will train to level 3 and then stop and that gets you like 20-25 naval experience by the time you need to make the new ship.
I like the video, it's a great video for starters but I think there are a few things that were suboptimal. In my game for example, I started the war later but I had 274 factories on November 2nd, before I took Poland and did around the maginot while having enough refineries to care for my airplanes/truck production. I also had Germany and Romania as my puppet at that point. There were some things that I could improve, like waiting one (short) focus for the industry research bonus and sending more volunteers to Ethiopia, Spain and China. I was lacking in doctrines compared to you though.

one thing ive taken to doing since AAT, is rushing export focus, and doing German Swedish trade agreement after rhineland/ before Four year plan. since you lose a bunch of resources to exporting the trade agreement lets me offset the loss of steel, and gives me access to swedens sweet, sweet tungsten. this also gives me leeway with the industry research bonuses from Four year plan. im by no means a great player though, and this could turn out to actually be detrimental
This bugged my production layout.... I can only see the navy stuff now
I swear, I can play Kurdistan starting as a one province minor with no factories and conquer half the planet but I struggle playing as Germany to take over Poland without losing a million manpower 😭
Gave up once I realized I missed the part where he researches medium tanks.
It would be nice to make a tutorial how to organize your armies. Not the templates but how to assign armor and infantry to different generals and how to organize marshals. Sounds simple but that would help out a lot since handling almost 200 divisions is not so easy as a newbi.
Thanks for some of the tips man, after like 20 hour i managed to defeat the allies almost flawlessly, ended with an invasion to the briish
Hey bittersteel, where in your video did you send your navy out? I can't seem to find a segment where you gained the naval xp at the start, happy holidays!
Yeah - this got me too. Think it must almost have been day one.
He just put his navy fleet to training
yeah it is annoying he makes a guide and doesnt explain everything hes doing. makes it useless if you cant follow it.
I have just bought the game and only have 4 dlc, i appreciate that you also tell what people without dlc should do!
Pirate dlc

I used to be so good at Germany but It took me months to finish off Poland and I couldn’t get past Belgium and I have lost so much confidence in my ability to play hoi4 well 😭
Been so hoping you would be doing this!!! I need to reduce my disasters
Looks like guides are BACK ON THE MENU BOYS!
Delay war with poland by a month.
crazy that this almost happened irl
For increasing division count, it would be easier to exercise up to 5 army xp, then make a new division with one cav battalion and spam that up to your target division count. Also now you have a good cavalry garrison division. Then if you need men in the field for Anschluss change the divisions of this template you have to normal division template and bling, you have a lot of men on the field. The german cavalleriebrigade still requires arty and support equipment.
u need guns in the divisions also now to count , not number of divisions.
number of divisions is good for volunteers only
@@arankokahence why he said u can chamge when needed?
1700 hours in hoi4 but still watching ever minute of this
Excellent guide, will be trying this soon
I frequently f'd up the Low Countries invasion and as a result the French would park a huge amount of divisions on the border and make breaking through (with my far inferior tank divisons to yours) very hard.
I had the same issue you’re not alone
Try to invade france through belgium
But in early 1937 start invading
Pro tip: listen to teufelslied for SS damage and training speed boost
Between January 1937 and March 1937, the instructor's army grows by 50 divisions with no explanation given.
Happy holidays Bitter, Thank you for the guide as always, I wish you and your family the best
Happy holidays!

As a new player, this is the best guide I've ever seen so far.
Hold shift field marshal order is a fantastic tip. Thank you
930 hours into the game and just realised I've never beaten the Soviet Union as Germany in the base game, time to try something new!
brother, i got like 3k hrs in this mental health problem called hoi4 and i still watch a fukin guide to on germany
same
32:05 Paradox has changed Belgium to be protected by the USA so everytime an attack is made on Belgium the US will be called in. I haven't tried it but perhaps an early invasion of Netherlands & Belgium will prevent the US guaranteeing Belgium.
Is it me or he skips alots? Sorry im new was trying to follow him but was a little lost
Agreed.
Well it shows the important parts. And you can't follow a Hoi4 game one to one.
Even in historical things are slightly different every time, like the number of divisions a country will have at a certain date and so on.
120 hours in the game and he goes too fast for me lol
@@zachchildress2358 sorry you’re stupid. Try world of tanks might be more your speed
Assisting Nationalist China as Germany is also Historically accurate
15:30 Not sure about this but I think you get intelligence bonusses for putting the spy in the capital.
@@boop7441Mech can get up to 14 kph if you upgrade them.
At 7:01 the player is instructed to build a new, cheaper destroyer template. Although this requires naval experience, the video does not instruct the player how this was earned. Based on my own tests, if you set your entire navy to drill on day one, you should have around 20 naval experience by march 1936, as shown in the video.
Hu, did i not mention to exercise the navy?
My boy thank you so much. Your old video on Germany is what got me started. I’m sure you saw my comments lol. I was helping some others that couldn’t quite follow it. Even though was a little dated. Thanks so much for making this. I know how much time it takes to do this. Also do you ever realese long format (not that this isn’t long) but I mean an unedited version
he probably didn’t
I really like you taking people who don’t have certain dlc into account
30:00 how to so multiple naval invasion orders? Whenever I tried to use the same general for more than one order, it cancels the previous order. The only way I am able to do that is if I assign a bunch of generals
What you could also do is instead of using the research bonus for the four-year plan on machine tools you could use it in 1939 construction tech which will be very useful. Just make sure you take the army innovations as your second focus because the timing will fail otherwise.
Steel says that you start out with historical trades (Sweden steel) however I don't for reasons unbeknownst to me. Historical focus checked, all DLC active.
Germany no longer starts with an active steel trade with Sweden as of AAT iirc.
Yippie Christmas Eve BitterSteel! Merry Christmas everyone :))
I was just looking the last ultimate video desperate. Your my savior🙏
Your last Germany guide got me all the achievements
I would love to see the focus priorities all the way through, right now, I'm kind of trying to find the places in the video where you talk about focus.
I saw you building infra and civs, but at the start of the game, I always build mills as Germany. You get like 70% mill building speed and it is insane how fast you can make them and have sht ton of equipment
And you'll be producing... Junk. While with a civ snowball, you can get more. Mils and those will be making more good equipment
@@Bitt3rSteel huh? I was able to fully fill my army with tanks only and steam roll the entire world. Past certain point, civs don't do that much, only when you need to have resources, which you get from focuses and conquering either way. I use Miffos to my advantage
Despite knowing what to do (I think) I'll still gladly see this episode. Also Merry Christmas.
Nice Video!
Please Do These Kind Of Guides For Other Nations Too.
That's the plan!
@@Bitt3rSteel Appreciate It ❤️❤️
Thanks for this video.
17:12 i usually rush heavy mgs by this point usually gives me a little edge later
Which part?
@@Bitt3rSteel13:07 it has no horses training anymore and on 17:35 there are 7 horses trained, so I got confused about what should i have done when I reached 17:35, but even tough I managed to win from allies on other try so it is still helpful a lot.
With the PP from Rheinland i like to get Free Trade asap. The bonuses it provides to both research and construction speed is invaluable. Sure, you have less resources but its still enough for your starting production cause you spam Civs until 38 anyways.
Merry Christmas Bitter! Thank you for a year with wonderful horrible fun videos. God jul🇧🇻
Can never resist a "New" Germany Guide for Hoi4
I'm actually impressed that bro can actually pronounce the german words so good, specially the r's
I did an Iron Man world conquest that stopped in the 1960s using your No Step Back guide. Still worked, it was great.
Yay, another bitt3rsteel video! Thanks for the guide.
9:32 why you didn hire Rodolf Hiss ? He gives you plus 15% political power gain, And lowers the production cost for airplanes
And he dies the second you cap France.
And lowers the cost of heavy fighters. Which you don't use
Thanks this is helping me i just started playing HOI4
thanks for this video, I totally messed up in poland before. When I started to just snake without caring about front lines poland fell within like 5 days
Also, having Italy in my faction without calling them in helped tremendously
but I am struggling with getting England to abandon the channel (you got really lucky with your AI) WITHOUT having to call Italy into the war. Having Italy in the war makes everything really easy, but then I have to share stuff with them
I'd actually really like a production/supply tutorial. I am literally always in an equipment deficit on guns, tanks, and artillery. I have some ideas what I'm doing wrong, but I've never really figured it out
Love the addition of the Gulliman meme
I usually promote Guderian as a Field Marshall, has the better stats and cheap to promote, probably worth looking at it.
Germany starts with some bombers that can reach northern Spain from the south Germany, so you can have 3 air wings in there
"I don't really use infantry that much as Germany"
*immediately makes tank division full of mobile infantry*
The buffs from the Mobile Infantry side of the doctrine tree are so massively better, it's not even close, *even if you're focusing on tanks.* Your motorized org increases, which is huge (lets you cram more tanks into your "ideal" division) but, *even more importantly*, your Recovery Rate SKYROCKETS.
Good point
@@Bitt3rSteel could you do a vid on this? Lol
watching this makes me want to play the game again but i can't forget the frustation ive got whenever i i played before. lmao. you make it looks that ez.
It's easier to declare on all of the low contry and break trew sedan and spread out
Go around french delvisions and hit victory points
Now imagine a Kaiserreich one :D
Would be at least 5 hours long probably, but indeed a challenge for the channel no doubt
I finished the Spanish civil war in a bit over a year for nationalist Spain as Germany. Regular difficulty, Ironman mode and historical focus on
For some reason, the mediator thing between hungary and romania always ends in them declaring on each other.
Me who has 4k hours: oh yes I definitely need this
You said you wanted to go right in MW because breakthrough bonuses so you can make tank with more attack and not focus on breakthrough but your div would have already too much of it without thoses bonuses.
