I just started a Germany game yesterday. Major fuck ups later... I am already at war with Russia and haven't even touched the low countries... Sooo perfect video at perfect time XD
Germany, Italy, and the USSR make me wish you could preload a preferred setup for a country when you start a game. Military orders, production, and focus all cued up in advance so you don't have to do the same thing manually every time you load in, like how in Bethesda games you can make a save right before leaving the tutorial area to skip the intro. Also the Gombos Trade Treaty is definitely worth picking on Historical since Hungary always bends the knee regardless. And Kesselring is best while the Spanish Civil War is ongoing because with him you can easily finish your whole Air Doctrine before 1939. And getting Organization Todt then switching to Goering is ideal for building up then getting the resources needed for Autarky Achieved.
@Pasta-mh8wx Yes. They'll turn you down a couple of times before WW2 but after the Vienna Awards you'll have them in your pocket before Barbarossa. You honestly don't even need them on side before Barbarossa since the primary benefit they offer in single player is having a solid front line.

I also noticed in historical games, when playing basically any other country except Germany, that the Germans somehow get Hungary as a puppet. Like the ruling party becomes the National Social one. Not sure how to do this as Germany though, there isnt a puppet Hungary focus, there used to be one in the old tree I believe. Now there are many ways to puppet Hungary, I know, but a little larp wouldnt hurt from time to time. Thank you for responding.
@@KAPTAINmORGANnWo4eva You actually can do that already, in the same way as in your Bethesda example. It's just done in the files system so it's extra work. But it can be done. It might not save huge amounts of time, but depending on how fast you are and how much stuff needs managing, might save up to a minute or two. Go to your "Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\save games" folder, create a "backups" folder in there, and copy any saves you want into there. When you want to start a new game, simply copy-paste the relevant backup save back to the parent folder. The save game is there in the list of loadable saves in-game. Works even with ironman saves. That's the way to save scum in ironman. You don't have to do it if you don't want to, but at least now you know the option exists for those very annoying achievement runs.

Omg the research and focus list is what I’ve always dreamed of…. No more clicking on my tiny phone to replay a part and trying to see what the focus was on my tiny screen…. I know I could have it on one of my computer screens but I just CANT tolerate hearing hoi4 noise and my guide coming from the same audio source. Plus I absolutely love doing stuff like sending France a massive amount of lend lease at the start of the war, as the US or UK, to let bleed the germans out a bunch before they fall. Plus I find when I do play as a minor power my goal most the time turns into turning into a major power to go after whichever ai annoyed me the most lol

What about sending the mountaineer and the cavalry (convert that to mountaineer) to Italy against Ethiopia? you can also send air volunteers, and its great for grinding terrain traits so you can them closer to adaptable! Also, one other thing, Hess is way better than Bormann, not only does he give you more pp, but crucially, he gives you as MASSIVE research boost when using an MIO!
55:45 I think it needs to be stressed that you put the planes back to missions day and night here. While I adopted your strategy of day training I often forget to revert that in a war which means for half of the fight the air force is grounded. And I am probably not the only one.
What's the point in getting Göbbles first? Wouldn't it be better to get Todt as early as possible for the civ and infrastructure construction speed? Then do reorganize the Wehrmacht and you can get early War economy anyway
Didn't include Basic Machine Tools (BMT) in your research list. Kind of threw me off at first until I found the exact spot in the video for the starting research (5:25)
I personally choose Hess over Bormann simply because he gives +15% MIO research bonus later on. Bormann just gives you pp discounts, which you don't really struggle with Germany simply because you gain tons of it
I think you can do rhineland and then rush price controls. I'm pretty sure there's an option that gives +5% ws, that gives you enough to go for war econ
Adding extra fuel tanks to the 1936 as Germany Is pretty bad, since in Europe you don't struggle with air mission efficiency as compared with, plus it really makes your planes way more vulnerable, so you end up losing a lot of manpower and pc. An alternative that I usually use Is to stick with the basic template, then research heavy mgs and the defense tech in 1938, you can then convert your starting fighters to the 1936 meta fighters, 2mgs, rubber and light MG defense.

Make all RKs in areas where you don't have cores. Especiallyif you still have economy of conquest. Best spies to use would be seducers, and after using the local spies upgrade, using Soviet nationality spies. Those are harder to catch in the USSR
Ussr in singleplayer is kinda bad, just focus on having good supply and make your tank divisions to lead the way. Focus on soft attack since vanilla AI tanks suck
if you really want to be historical, you should be doing Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact RIGHT BEFORE doing Danzig or War, declare on the Soviets in mid 41, and then go after the US after defeating the Soviets. The soviets are Germany's main enemy and thus should be prioritized, plus they get so much stronger between 1941 and 42 on historical.
I really like this update to Germany, it makes it feel like a much more well earned victory against the Soviets. It's much weaker, yes(economy is about 20 civs smaller heading into war). On old patches I could cap the Soviets within 6 months, now it easily takes into spring of 42'. I don't see the AI as much smarter though, if anything the Soviets are easier to pocket this patch because of how hard they try to stop you from closing pockets, which makes them bigger.

Also shouldn't the volunteer plains be set back to night and day fighting? Also no use of the international market for the stuff you are not using? Like the naval bombers. Also in principle against space marines? EG medium AA tank in the infantry divisions with focus on armor?

@_zeux The whole Nazi economy was a ponzi scheme, so It's pretty accurate lmao. But yes, econ growth is a more relaxed gameplay. The bad side Is that you don't gain as much rubber from your refineries compared with the other path, but your econ is stronger in the long run.

When I made the sea landings in England, their divisions were as large as if they knew I was going to land there. Do you know how to make landing by sea easier?
Marines. But realistically, you shouldn't need them. If you get unlucky, you can run into a force that the UK has gathered for a naval invasion of its own. Or if you are too slow to push north, you run into the forces that the UK calls back from across its empire
Is it really necessary to do the whole rigamaroll with training a bunch of horses if you do the Condor Legion focus (+2 volunteer div limit)? That's some equipment that can be saved in training.
9:01 idk if it's a bug or what but the game never tells me I need to be 24x bigger, from the very start for me it always says 23x & when I switched my entire army of like 140 divisions of what was already fully equipped infantry div's over to dirt cheap cavalry it still didn't let me annex them, when I tag switched over to Austria they had like 5 divisions with ONE more in training, I really do not like this new DLC I just cannot get into a rhythm with it and apparently I no longer understand any of the basics, how fun.

Guess I'll go learn how to play the Soviets in the mean time, I've been putting it off long enough lol

Minor nations are fun because you can just spearhead your way into the enemy territory while using your allies' infantry as place holders
Playing minors means less micro, and less focus-splitting. You're not running campaigns in 2-3 fronts, with air, sea and land, and everything else.

You'd have a slower build up and a larger economy later on. If you delay war, you'd be stronger. But it slows everything down

I never understood the general farming as the Reich. You have the great one rommel for your tank divisions and a lot of Generals are awesome already for inf. So what do you need it for really ?

Still Goebbels, Göring, and Himmler were all a very special kind of evil, I'm not going to fault anyone for refusing them because it makes your stomach churn.
