Making Magnesium Oil Spray - "recipe" in description

- Magnesium Oil Spray is one of the easiest products you can make and has so many uses. It is simply Magnesium Chloride dissolved in Distilled Water. You can make your Magnesium Oil to the strength you need.
30% Magnesium Chloride and 70% Distilled Water
or
50% Magnesium Chloride and 50% Distilled Water
or anything in between.
You do not need preservative if you keep to these percentages as the Magnesium Chloride salt will make it self preserving. You can add essential oils, just take the percentage used from your water amount.
Sorry, I will not convert the percentages to units of weight as this is dependent on your batch size and can be converted using Google if you struggle with percentages.
The printer I use is an Epson TM C3500

this is the most amazing deodorant - my daughter makes it for both of us - i will never buy a store bought deodorant again - i even have my hubby using it for muscle cramps and twitching feet - i couldnt recommend it highly enough - i also now live cramp free since i started using it as a deodorant - i used to have wicked cramps where my legs would bend and freeze in a cramp - i couldnt straighten them or even massage the cramp out - i lived for years with the cramps especially after breaking my leg - it honestly felt that the cramps were so strong they would break my leg again - but they have all gone - i am now going to try it directly on my lower back because i damaged that when i fell on the step and broke my leg - they cant find a thing wrong with my back but oh boy - the pain can be so debilitating you cant move - so magnesium oil gets a high 5 from me
It's such a wonderful product to have around with so many uses. Hope it helps your back
I use it as a deodorant to. Have for years. No smells but allows you to sweat naturally.
@@Gabrielle937 - i have found - even after shaving - there is no bite like you get from a mass manufactured deodorant

few tips to save you the time + make your product even better:
1. you dont have to heat the water to dissolve the Mg, saves a lot of time.
2. you can add MSM powder to the mix for extra benefits
3. use a glass bowel to mix the ingredients instead of plastic
4. use glass bottles instead of plastic
5. 22:10 instead of pouring water each time to the cup then to the container you can instantly pour to the bottles while its on the scale
Thank you for your advice. I'm not insured to package in glass so use recycled plastic bottles. I also use plastic containers to mix in after finding a slither of glass in another product as it had chipped during processing. The whole batch had to be thrown away. I find it easier and less messy to measure out each lot before putting in bottle
Hi! About how much MSM powder to add? Thanks!
Why should I add the MSM powder?
hi.. i want to make a 50% mix... would that mean 500g MgCl and 500ml water? And if thats correct, how much MSM would you add to this? Thanks!
@@ragusafnope. The magnesium will delute im water until the water is satisfied. Satisfied means 100%. The "oil". If you want 50% better use Satisfied solution and add same amount of water.

That's so good to hear it brings you relief. It is very easy to make
Thank you! I want to make this for my husband for his joint pain. I had a small bottle of magnisium oil he used and said it really helped and he doesn't need to take his pain medication anymore. Instead of buying it pre mixed, this way seems much cheaper when I compared the prices. 😊
Thank you for watching 🧡 definitely cheaper to make
Thank you for this informative video about magnesium oil 😍. Something I saw on Ellen Ruth’s channel was that she uses 2 spatulas on the counter to stop the bottle from rolling around when labelling 😉 simple solution which I will use if I ever get around to making anything in bottles 😂 xx

I broke down and got magnesium and made magnesium oil today. I put some on my shoulders and neck. This stuff is magical!! Thank you!!
I did 1/2 oz distilled water and 1/4 oz magnesium.
So pleased it helped
This is great! I used magnesium spray (in spray oil form) for years but stopped and was just thinking recently that I should start up again (I have a disease where one of three symptoms is chronic muscle pain). You are a lifesaver! For the life of me I couldn't understand why it was being called magnesium oil when all I was seeing was magnesium flakes and water being mixed. I was so confused but you my dear, cleared up my confusion. Thank you 🙏🏾
I'm happy it helped. I found it confusing when I first started looking into it 🧡
Yes thank you, I was about to mix it with coconut or castor oil lol
@annettecabezas6697 So I tried that and let me tell you, IT WAS A MESS! It took hours for the salt to dissolve, and when it did, some of it kind of coagulated in a sense at the top corners and at the bottom. It was just, yucky!
Thank you

This was highly educational! I actually learned a lot from you tonight. I've always taken a magnesium bath when my back bothers me. I've had a place that was broken and I've never had surgery, because it is an unoperatable break. So, I soak in a magnesium bath. It helps, but I no longer have a bath tub, lol. When we remodeled I went with a 4 ft. X 6 ft. shower with a bench seat.
I'd never heard of magnesium oil till I came across this video! Awesome, niw I can use magnesium again, yeah! It really does work! I was shocked! So it's a win/win situation. Thank you Keeley! I really appreciate you dispensing the advice!

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. Definitely try the spray. 🧡
Get skin hot from shower & immediately spray on wet body. It is transdermal & will absorb in tissue & muscle. Let body dry naturally from air. Avoid eyes, cuz it will burn!
How much magnesium flakes do you put in your bath. I have 5kg of pure magenesium flakes and would like to bath in it.

Thank you so much for this video .I have a ton of dead sea salts, can I use that if blended down to a powder form?
Dead sea salt is different to magnesium chloride. Although it has some magnesium, it is not used in the same way.
Hello! Could you use a hydrosol/floral water as a partial water replacement for just a bit of scent? Thanks! Great video.
Yes you could use hydrosol. It's a great way to add scent
Thanks for this video! I see you said we would need a solubizer to add in essential oils…. I’m very new to this…. Would you be able to expand on that? What is that? How would I incorporate that into the recipe?
A solibiser helps oil and water to hold together. They are generally Polysorbates or PEG. Depending on what you choose to use will depend on how much you need to add to the formula. A good supplier will tell the recommended usage rates.
hi, thanks for all that info. i am starting my business with magnesium oil, but since i am a pain doctor, i will add some nsaid, mint, and i don´t know... some butter cream, what do you think about it?
If you are adding things to this solution you need to make sure they are safe (won't grow bacteria) and soluble. I have never looked to adding extras to this so you would need to experiment yourself.
Thanks so much for sharing this Keeley. I just have a question re adding essential oils. Would I need to use an emulsifier?
Thank you for watching 🧡 you would need a solubiser rather than emulsifier
Have a great day
Thank you 🧡 you too

Great job!!! What are the other 2 printers you have sitting on top of the Epson printer? I'm looking into a printer and getting overwhelmed with` thermal printer, shipping label printers, etc. I don't think they have your printer anymore when I searched. They have the C6000A. Thank you!
The two small printers are from the Brother QL thermal range. Although they've been good to me, I don't recommend them as labels are expensive and restrictive with size. I use a Munbyn thermal printer and it gives good flexibility. Sadly it does look like the C3500 printer has been discontinued but there are lots of similar models available
Thank you and much appreciated. Blessings
Hi. Is it possible to infuse magnesium oil with dried lavender buds? Like for overnight, strain the buds the next day? I tried it and it actually smells better than using essential oil. Im just not sure if magnesium chloride would still work just enough as preservative or will it turn rancid? Thanks!
I'm sorry but I can't answer that as it's not something I've tried. If you have done it, leave a bottle to sit for a period of time and check on it to see what happens
Oh now this is interesting. I was in a car accident in 2004 and have a plate and rod in my left leg. There are times when I need a cane to walk though there are also times when I'm just fine. Would this help with the pain?
I'm sorry to hear that. Have a try of it. It's not a miracle cure but many people have positive things to say about the spray. Even soaking in a bath with Magnesium Chloride may help.
Hi. You talk about how you decant any leftover oil into your husband’s bottle. You also talk about how the oil doesn’t need preservative. Is there in fact a shelf-life on the oil, or - say you don’t use it very often - will it keep for a while?
The product is self preserving so when stored right, or should last a number of years but I always recommend using within 12 months of opening

Hi Keeley thank you for this video and recipe. Can I use Demineralised water instead of Distilled water. I can’t seem to find Distilled water easily. Thank you ☺️
Distilled is better as all trace elements have been removed. You can still use demineralised
@@SoyandShea thank you so much for your reply.
Hi! Thank you so much for being kind in sharing your business ideas to the public. I have a question, can I use Magnesium Chloride hexahydrate? Right after watching your video, I searched where I can find the materials I will be needing, and I found this MgCl2 6H2O in an online store in my local place. Thank you very much!
I personally would use Magnesium Chloride as its natural. From my under Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate is man-made and missing some of the trace elements
@@SoyandShea Thank you so much for the response. I will keep on looking for MgCl2. I hope can find soon.
@Soy and Shea, I found MgCl2, but it is used for shrimp farming. (for muscle growth and strength of shrimps) Is it the same? Or I should find the one especifically used for humans only. I live in Thailand. Thank you very much.
@@sciencewithann666 You will be better off finding one that is marketed for use on humans. Try your local supermarket or health food store. It is often sold in the toiletries aisle as it is used in baths
@@SoyandShea I will. Thank you very much!
We purchased a magnesium oil spray called Austra and it says it's made with purified water. I was going to use purified water instead of distilled water to make my own since that was what was listed on the ingredients.
There are big differences between purified and distilled water. Distilled has all minerals removed, whereas all others have trace elements that may affect shelf life. If it's for yourself, you can make your own decision on what to use.
If you get a sting or burning feeling when you put the magnesium oil on put some oil over the top, it slows down the body’s absorption
That's a great tip. As you build your magnesium levels, the sting does go
@@SoyandShea yeah it does, people don't realise that they get the sting/burning sensation when they are very deficiant in magnesium and their body absorbs it at such a quick pace, you've done the right thing advising people to make a lower ratio for starters and work their way up. It's nice to have come across a fellow Aussie channel, I have subscribed :)
@@mysticalsouls thank you.
Do you think it would be good to add a little msm powder (vegetable sulfur)?
I've not had any experience with that so I can't answer that with certainty sorry.
Thank you so much for sharing this very nice recipe 😊
I just have a question about! Why do you call it magnesium oil as it does not contain any oil in it? Thanks again
I explained at the beginning of the video, it gets its name from the texture of the product.
@@SoyandShea oh sorry missed that
Thank you so much 😊
thank you. I found my sprays form crystals inside the bottles overnight after making. i’m using 50/50. as it is cold now, could the cold cause this or is it the ratio? also the spray nozzle stops working. thank you in advance 😊
I'm going to suspect its the ratio. I would increase the water a little so it's not as saturated. This will help keep nozzles unclogged
Thank you
What colour should be magnesium oil after sprayed on skin. Cus the one I have is clear in the bottle but darker in colour once sprayed.
All my Magnesium Oil spray clear but can look darker depending on skin complexion
Hi! I would like to join your Patreon. I have a question. if I buy a subscription for $10, will the magnesium lotion recipe be available there? I'm sorry for my English, it's not my native language.

Hi Keeley you mentioned your spray bottles are from recycled plastic and that you bought them in Australia. Are you able to share where you got them? TIA
There are several manufacturers here in Australia with small businesses onselling. If you google recycled PET bottles Australia several suppliers come up. You can then find one that is suitable to your buying needs such as minimum quantities
@@SoyandShea thank you much :-)
I have a bottle of ionic magnesium 400 mg . Do you know if I can use it to make the spray?
That's an entirely different ingredient and not one I know much about
Does the spray bottle have a metal coil in the top? How does this hold up over time with the magnesium running through it?
I personally have not found rust on my bottles including the one I refill for my husband. Make sure you are buying good quality packaging to help with this
Wow, what about all the chemicals leaching out of plastic when it's exposed to heat?
All plastic I use is BPA free and is listed as able to safely use with heat. You can always use glass if you feel safer that way but I find glass easily chips without you noticing which posses a huge risk
Your OCD is to our advantage 😜 Thanks Keeley 🙏

I know this is an older video but I tried your recipe and like it my question is the magnesium doesn’t seem to resolve all the way I have to shake it before using it. Is this normal
I've never had this problem of it not dissolving fully. Make sure you're using good quality magnesium chloride and are using weight to measure
@@SoyandShea Thank you for you help. I measure everything I do. I am going to try another soaper company for the magnesium and see if it works better. Again thank you for all your help.
can you add an oil of wintergreen or similar for a more therapeutic product?
You would need to check your country's rules and regulations on therapeutic goods
@@SoyandShea I am in Aus, but was just wondering if a bit of wintergreen would be a compliment to the magnesium, not to make claims, but most muscle tonics have some aromatics
@@tukicat1399 I do mention in the video you can add essential oils to the mix. Just keep in mind, this is used for more than just muscles
Does your Epson print off on thermal shipping labels?
The Epson printer I use to make the labels in this video is not a thermal printer but a special inkjet printer that prints like a laser. It does not generate heat which is used to print on thermal labels.
In my own experience, I've noticed that Magnesium Oil (that is, concentrated liquid solutions of dissolved Magnesium) will clog the spritzer head oftentimes. With continued use of a spritzer bottle, especially the smaller ones, it nearly always happens over time. Either to a degree, or to the point of completely stopping up and becoming nonfunctional! I realize this may be off topic, but this seems to happen with several different store brands. Very frustrating.
I'm not sure if it *also* happens with DIY home-made versions of Mg spray, but it seems like it might. The problematic result: liquid solution will no longer come out, OR will come out only with great difficulty (with repeated pumping, and waiting for something to happen). Any recommended solutions to this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
This is not something I have experienced with my product. I have a bottle at home which I keep refilling and the sprayer is still going strong. Some of the store brought ones have extra ingredients which may be the cause of clogging.
JUST SPLASH IT INTO YOUR HAND FROM AN WIDE-MOUTH JAR. WORKS GREAT. I USE PLASTIC LIDS ON GLASS JAR CUZ I DONT WANT POSSIBLE METAL CORROSION MIXED INTO THE OIL
I agree, every bottle does this that I have used!
It's the metal used in the actual sprayer inside. Try taking sprayer off & rinsing well
@@diane360 Thank you, Diane! Very helpful, and I will share this tip with others too.
Just found your video if you want to add essential oils dont you need to add a carrier oil?
A carrier oil won't help as oil and water don't mix. You need a solubiser
can it be used around the heart area ?............also what about adding a bit of DMSO to the mix ?tia.
Although you can spray all over the body, its unlikely to have any benefit to the heart. It is far more effective on other muscle groups found in the arms, legs and neck. I'm not sure what DMSO is sorry
@@SoyandShea Thank you for your fast reply .
DMSO, or DiMethyl SulfOxide is a super solvent that is a byproduct of the pulp paper industry. It will carry many chemicals through the skin and into the bloodstream. By itself, it has analgesic properties and can be bought as horse liniment from tackle and feed stores. Many years ago, I bought a small bottle with a roller ball top, and about 4 ounces of DMSO inside. I think I paid about $5 (US) back then, so, if it is still available, might go for $10 or more. I found it was highly effective on joint pain, but it has one drawback. It is quite sticky/gooey and has a garlicky odor, which some might find offensive. Also, since it is so effective at getting other chemicals through the skin, this includes aromatic essential oils, and one might soon notice the oil's scent or flavor appearing mysteriously, even in bland foods, or seeming to come from thin air.
Disclaimer: I would check Wikipedia's entry for DMSO for current uses, precautions, and dangers. Sometime in the last 30 years, someone may have found that it causes one to break out in green or orange spots. Lol! Hope this helps.
Is that a 2 x 4 label on a 4 oz bottle?
No it isn't. We work in the metric system here so our bottles are a little smaller. To work out what size you need, make measure your bottle and make a template to see what fits best.
Is it ok if I use tap water or spring water?
Tap water and spring water have metals and minerals, which can affect the efficacy of the product so I wouldn't
hi may I ask what is the label size you are making for the 100ml bottle sprays?
Sorry, but I don't share my label sizes as it forms a part of my branding, and I have a custom label printer, meaning my sizes aren't regular. You can easily work out a good label size for you by making some test sizes using some plain paper. Just measure the height you want on your bottle then wrap the paper round to get the length
@@SoyandShea Thank you for replying and for the suggestion I appreciate it! I'll do just that!
Hi Keeley I use magnesium spray for sleep and it is scented with lavender oil but I want to start buying it from you would you scent it for customers or is it to hard or could I scent it myself ?
Give me a couple of weeks and I will get some on the website. We are going away in a weeks time so will be when we get back 😊
Ty, 1 question why it called oil spray when no oil was added?
I actually explained it right at the beginning of the viseo
Can this be used on children around 4 years and up? What are the benefits?
If you google Magnesium oil, lots of to ways to use it xome up as well as benefits. From what I have seen, Magnesium is heavily diluted for Children
May I ask why do you make up your solution by weight rather than millilitre measurement please?
To get more accurate and consistent results, everything should be measured by weight. This is partly due to the specific gravity of liquid ingredients - for example 20ml of one oil will weigh a different amount to 20ml of another. Doing by weight ensures you have enough product to fill your containers whereas going by volume could result in less or more of the product being made. It is also to ensure accuracy as it is harder to get accurate volume measurements without specialised equipment but you can always weigh accurately. It is a standard that is practiced by large commercial manufacturers.
Hi ..what licence and registration I'll need if I want to make and sell magnesium oil ??
You'll need to check the rules and regulations for where you are located. They may be different to where I am
Can I use magnesium citrate powder to make this
They are two different ingredients so you wouldn't be making magnesium oil. It would feel very different on the skin
I do make my own magnesium, but after a while the spay doesn't work anymore. It gets stuck. How to make it work again ?
(I tried with hot water and also with water & vinegar but with no success)
Thanks for any advice !
I have found the key is to have quality packaging. Cheaper sprays will rust.
@@SoyandShea Rust... ? It is a plastic bottle / spray !!
@catherinemartin8970 Although the bottle is plastic, the inner workings of the sprayer are usually metal
Can dissolve magnesium flake with olive oil or grapes seed oil?
No. Salt is water soluble not oil.
So if I do a cup of water do I put a half cup of flakes
It's always advisable to use weight measurements when making things, not cups. This ensures accurate measuring.
Is magmesium oil cam heal my chronic bavkpain?
No, this will not heal. It may bring some relief depending on what causes the pain. Magnesium helps muscles to relax, so if your pain is muscle related, it may help, but if it is something else causing the pain, it's unlikely to help. Please also note that we can not make medical claims on these products
Can I use Epsom salt instead of flakes?
They're two different salts and have different functions
Distilled water+magnesium salt...it couod be a spray not oil...
Can we use magnesium sulphate instead of magnesium chloride???
Have you actually watched and listened to the video? I explain why it's called an oil
How much water did you use?
This is explained in the video and description box
Can I use magnesium hydroxide instead, or not?
No as it's a completely different ingredient.
Its ok if i directly put on distilled water without boiling? I tried it and the magnesium flakes disolve.. Is that ok.. ??
If thats how you prefer, go for it. I just prefer boiling the water
Thank u
I bought magnesium oil from Amazon do I add water into that??
It sounds like you have already bought the oil which this video is showing you how to make. I wouldn't add water as you'd be diluting it
Ok I am assuming that the ratio 30% Mg to 70% Water is by weight?
It is highly recommended that all formulating is done by weight
Can I use reverse osmosis water instead?
I honestly don't know enough about that type of water to answer. Distilled water has all the minerals and particles removed which is what makes it safe to use.
@@SoyandShea thank you so much for your response. I appreciate it
why would you throw out magnesium when is has absorbed moist? Just add distilled water and you'd have magnesium oil
That is an option but I personally wouldn't use it for business as to me this equates to spoilage. But I would use for personal. I've put it in the bath water when this has happened
It seems to me that a more efficient way of making this in various strengths is to start by making a saturated solution of MgCl2 (won't dissolve any more), and add more water until the rest of it dissolves. Buying Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate should be cheaper, since you're not having to remove all the water molecules. You might wind up with more leftovers after diluting the crystals still in the bottom of the pan, but, since they end up in Hubby's bottle anyway...
Someone asked about Magnesium hexahydrate. The most stable form of MgCl2 is in a complex with 6 water molecules around the magnesium ion. That is why the MgCl2 absorbs water out of the air. There is nothing wrong with the MgCl2 that has liquified or has taken on water. It just throws off the accuracy of the measurement. You can add the liquid into your water until it reaches the saturation point, and it'll be fine. Nothing to worry about contamination, as long as the container has been kept sealed. And bacteria, etc. won't live in the saturated solution. There's a reason why they call the Dead Sea "dead."
Is any plastic spray bottle safe?
Most bottles will be a PET or number 5 and are safe to use with salt water. You could also use HDPE 2
